TTC #1, Cycle 1. Anyone In?

Hi all,
Longtime lurker, occasional commenter, rare poster here.
DH and I decided to start to TTC after much deliberation recently.
I've been on the pill for 16 years and haven't had a natural period in that time! Had my withdrawal bleed which started on 15th Jan and think I may have ovulated on Thursday 2nd Feb. I was doing OPKs (I know - first cycle, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going all in!) and got an almost-positive then - didn't have any more OPKs with me to test slightly later in the day.
DTD numerous times in what I'm estimating is my fertile week (working on the basis that my cycle is 28 days but don't really know at the moment).
So now the waiting begins.
Anyone in the same position or want to join?
Advice and your stories welcomed!

@Rmad6716 fingers crossed for you too! I had some funny symptoms my first month and then things started to settle. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky first month conceptions!

snowbrigade · 17/03/2018 07:54

My AF arrived - cycle length was 26 which I think is pretty normal for me (trying to recall pre-conception times). I really hated the TWW, my nature's so impatient... AF actually arriving wasn't half as bad as the wait itself!

Now feeling ready to move on. New cycle, new chance. Though think this cycle is bit of a lost opportunity for us, will be away in Barcelona for the second half of my predicted fertile week with DH staying home.

Good luck to anyone who's still in the game for a March BFP!

jemimafuddleduck · 17/03/2018 14:21

@howiseverynametaken @Rmad6716 @AnotherOriginalUsername good luck in your TWW!
Ovia says I'm just starting my FW. Fertility Friends says I'm ovulating tomorrow. I DTD yesterday and will probably do again tomorrow.
I've been using the cheapie OPKs and have been getting faint lines. Today's was much darker than it has been but not positive- heading in the right direction though!
I've actually ordered some clear blue ones which are due to arrive today. I find the cheapie ones a bit ambiguous so want the reassurance that I am actually ovulating!
They're so expensive so like you I won't be using them every month.
I really really want it to happen this month!

OP posts:
AnotherOriginalUsername · 17/03/2018 18:34

Can you let me know how you get on with the clear blue ones @jemimafuddleduck please?

jemimafuddleduck · 17/03/2018 18:51

@AnotherOriginalUsername yes of course!

OP posts:
jemimafuddleduck · 18/03/2018 09:17

Well I did a cheapie opk yesterday and it looked like it was moving towards a positive.
I've used my clear blue digital opk this morning and it's showing low fertility! And my app says I'm supposed to ovulate today?!
So confused.

OP posts:
AnotherOriginalUsername · 18/03/2018 10:05

The app can only go on what you tell it and generslly works on patterns and reliable cycles. I'd be very surprised if you were having regular cycles so soon after coming off of contraception.

Personally I'm going with cervical mucus, position and opening monitoring currently and that seems to tally with my apps predicted fertile window by a day or two

howiseverynametaken · 18/03/2018 10:48

@jemimafuddleduck My ovia app told me I was going to ovulate but OPK still showing low fertility. I persevered for a few days and then had 4 days of high fertility before getting peak fertility. It was way after Ovia said it would be. Keep going! I have been so emotional today...think AF may be coming!

jemimafuddleduck · 18/03/2018 12:58

Ok, so having read the instructions (!) and done some internet research, I think I may have gone wrong.
The CB tests say you'll always get a negative on the first time you use it as it needs a baseline of where to test from. How fortunate that I chose to do it on the day I'm likely to ovulate!! 😡
I'm going to do a cheap opk in a couple of hours and see what that brings up.
I think I might have EWCM today, but need to check again later as we DTD earlier and it could just be the remnants of that (sorry TMI!).
I'll update you on the results of the opk later.
Sorry guys for going on so much, but thank god I set up this thread or I'd be going mad.
Nobody knows we're TTC so I can't talk to anybody about it (not that they'd be interested in whether I'm ovulating or not!) and I don't want to bod my DH down with it all...!

OP posts:
orangekitkat13 · 18/03/2018 22:14

@jemimafuddleduck we haven't told anyone we're TTC yet either. It's really nice to have people to talk to about it who are in the same boat, getting excited over every tiny symptom! Horrible acid reflux that last few nights! 6 dpo now.

Unicorn234 · 18/03/2018 23:08

After my emotional breakdown the other day my nipples have really been sensitive - I really hope AF isn't going to make a surprise appearance as I'm know where near due on.

StyleOfTheTimes · 20/03/2018 14:48

Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting on mumsnet having just joined. We’re currently ttc our first child. This is our second cycle of trying and I know it’s still early days but I’m already getting impatient lol!! I had convinced myself, or rather my body had convinced me, I was pregnant last month as I was getting all kinds of symptoms. Unfortunately my period showed up bang on time! I’m currently using Flo app to track periods, predict ovulation and log dtd. Smile

Rach0110 · 20/03/2018 14:55

Hi everyone, hope I can join too... just looking for a bit of support as I know I will drive myself mad otherwise!!
First month of properly TTC, have never been pregnant before. Im on day 14 of my cycle today and had a pos OPK on sunday!

@StyleOfTheTimes I've just joined too, and also using Flo! Are you monitoring your temperature? I did last month, but a bit sporadically - have had a higher temp the last few days which seemed to match my ovulation tests!

StyleOfTheTimes · 20/03/2018 15:21

No I haven’t been taking my temp. I thought I’d try just using the app and tracking my cycle first and if we’ve still not got pregnant in a few months then maybe start tracking temperatures and trying some of those ovulation tests? The thing is though it can start getting a bit stressful with the pressure of dtd at the right times etc. Not sure if you’ve found this? I’ve got quite good at pinpointing symptoms of when I’m ovulating (or should be at least!)

Rach0110 · 20/03/2018 17:23

@styleofthetimes yes I guess you're right! I started temping because was a bit worried I wasn't ovulating following some treatment I had for my endometriosis, so for me was quite a relief rather than a stress to see this month! But yep totally agree could easily become quite stressful.
Good luck everyone!

NotMaryWhitehouse · 20/03/2018 18:33

Hi everyone, I'm in too, first month of properly trying, just approaching my fertile week. Feel strangely nervous! Very weird to be trying after so many years of trying to avoid.....

Hope everybody finds success here

StyleOfTheTimes · 20/03/2018 19:05

I had a sudden bolt of panic the other day when I thought ‘oh god I could actually be pregnant right now!’ It was so weird!! It’s also very exciting to have this little secret with your other half that no one else knows about. That’s one reason I signed up here was so I could talk to other people about everything!!Grin

StyleOfTheTimes · 20/03/2018 19:05

Good luck to you!!!

NotMaryWhitehouse · 20/03/2018 19:26

@StyleOfTheTimes that's exactly how I feel!! I daren't say it out loud. Confused

WaitingForThatBFP · 20/03/2018 19:46

Hey guys.. so according to Ovia my fertile week starts tomorrow 😬🙊🙊
I really like coming in here and getting to chat with everyone especially seeing as though we’ve not really told anyone we’re trying as I know that would be added pressure..
Fingers crossed for everyone x

StyleOfTheTimes · 20/03/2018 19:53

I think as well people seem to say the wrong things sometimes when they know you’re ttc. Like a lady I work with who’s daughter has just found out she’s pregnant said to me ooo yea you need to start cracking on as you’re not getting any younger Shock I’ve just turned 28 and my husband is 33. As if my biological clock isn’t ticking loud enough in my ears anyway. I just smiled and did the whole fake laugh Hmm good luck with your fertile week!!!

jemimafuddleduck · 20/03/2018 20:09

Hi everyone who's recently joined and good luck on your journeys!
This is c3 for me and I'm really hoping it's the one!
I'm not 100% sure when I ovulated but I think it may have been either Saturday or Sunday, so effectively I'm now in my TWW.
Can't wait to see us all getting our BFPs!
No one knows we're TTC either. We have both actually been actively against having children for a long time (forever in fact!) so it will come as a massive surprise to our friends and family... which I'm quite looking forward to! Grin

Good luck to you!!!

Rmad6716 · 21/03/2018 10:49

Morning all Smile,

Feeling so confused! So I already know I have no idea where my cycle is at except from a 4 day period that started on 4th March. We then DTD on the 10th, 11th and 13th. More out of want than for reason lolWink. I posted last week that I was feeling funny and a bit sick. This has continued every day, even speaking too much whilst standing is making me feel a bit woosey. Having aversions to my candles at home too lol. Breakfast has been pretty tough too, struggling to eat/not knowing what to eat, Brown toast has been a winner. Since all this has started I've also not been in the mood at all probably understandable since I've been tired and sick feeling. The explanation could be a stupid bug but I hope not, feel like I'm going mad over this.
So technically I will need to wait till 4th April to test going on last period. I've also been doing OPKS all week and no positive so wondering if my cycle is actually short and I ovulated early Confused. Of course I consulted dr google and if that is the case then I could defo have conceived. I was also very much in the mood for DTD around that time too. Why are ya women such confusing creatures! Haha. Wishing you all BFP's!

Rmad6716 · 21/03/2018 10:50

Are us* not ya lol x
