Thanks greycloudstoday - so positives today a lovely friend drove 100 miles to spend the day with me and cheer me up which was lovely. She is 4 months pregnant - so happy for her and she bought flowers, cake and good humour so how could I be jealous (I was!)

Negatives I get a phone message asking me to go for genetic counselling with DH as my A2 bloods are raised - I mean seriously as if we haven't enough with the limbo between scans without fearing we have a serious blood disorder! I did think it was a slightly harsh message to leave.

Anyway must stop googling it doesn't help and think positive! I hope you ladies have had better starts to the week x

KerryLeanne84 · 17/10/2017 21:39

Hugs cornetto though your post made me laugh so silver lining! Is it bad to want to punch people who conceive in the first few cycles in the boobs?

lotty - lovely of your friend! I'd still be jealous too ❤️

Juancornetto · 18/10/2017 06:36

kerry not bad at all, perfectly understandable!

coastalchick · 18/10/2017 07:12

I conceived first cycle, but then miscarried at 10 weeks, so please don't punch me in the boobs! Grin

yellowfrontdoor · 18/10/2017 07:20

Coastal I’m with you! Conceived first cycle, mc at 10 weeks.**
Conceived straight after mc with no period, stopped developing 7-8 weeks.**
Please don’t punch me! 😂

Mind you it’s been two cycles now.* I know it’s ridiculous but I’m now worrying, even though I know the previous two pregnancies were sheer dumb luck (conception-wise anyway).*

We’ve got our first counselling session on Monday, just a day before my first due date; think it’ll be emotional, but I’m actually coming round to the idea.

We’re off on our little break, can’t wait for a change of scene.* I got a promotion at work too so it’s something to try to celebrate.*

yellowfrontdoor · 18/10/2017 07:20

Arghhh! Bold fail.

coastalchick · 18/10/2017 07:32

congrats on the promotion! and enjoy celebrating!!!

Juancornetto · 18/10/2017 07:33

No punching - I promise! Flowers all round Smile

Congratulations on the promotion yellow it's good to have something to think about that's not babies!

UnicornsandRainbows1 · 18/10/2017 07:38

@Juancornetto They seriously complained about that?! Maybe you should go and punch her in the boobs and him in the privates

Flatwhite31 · 18/10/2017 07:40

My AF only lasted two days, and luteal phase was only 12 days. Something isn't right!

Flatwhite31 · 18/10/2017 07:43

I took just under 4 months to conceive first time, so I'm not an instant conceiver either! I'm not one of those 'you're more fertile in the two months after miscarriage' bunch either.

Daffodil77 · 18/10/2017 07:49

Congratulations Yellow!!! Enjoy the celebrating!

@Flatwhite, I've had 2 2/3 week cycles since my MC (a few days before you). The last one was 14 days long with a 7 day luteal cycle. I don't think 12 days is too bad. I wouldn't worry just yet. My AF finished yesterday so hoping I ovulate a bit later this month so I've got a chance of a longer cycle.

I've decided to be more positive from today. It only took 3 months last time so I've no reason to believe there's any issues just yet. I spent last night having too much fun looking at revision stationery on Amazon for DH!

Haybay1 · 18/10/2017 08:03

Hi all, been away again this weekend but keep trying to catching up on here as I can. Hello to the newbies, sorry to hear your stories!

Just made me laugh with the punch in the boobs comments Grin. My first AF post MC was crazy heavy and lasted 5 whole days and then just stopped. Flat I am the same with no hormonal symptoms - normally I get really sore boobs etc and nothing at the moment at all still so don't worry too much I think it is just what can happen after everything we have been through. I am now CD 12 and into my FW... we have DTD every night since I stopped AF and if all being well, will keep doing it every day for the coming week or so lol and see what happens this month - at least this way we wont miss the window hopefully! We shall see!

Hope you all have a nice day Flowers

Juancornetto · 18/10/2017 08:04

They did unicorns apparently wasn't ideal in terms of their maternity leave plans Shock my heart bleeds!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 18/10/2017 08:09

I have had 2-3 day periods since my mc with a 12 day LP. The last 2 have really only been 2 days. Decided to make a GP appointment when we get back from holiday. Seeing acupuncturist just before we go (cd12) so will ask him to help trigger ovulation if he can, don’t want to have such a late ov this cycle if it can be helped!

KerryLeanne84 · 18/10/2017 08:19

No punches for you ladies 😂
Flat- a 12 day luteal phase is completely normal

yellowfrontdoor · 18/10/2017 08:57

Opks showed I probs ovulated on CD 24-25, and my LP was 12-13 days.
I was worried it was too short but that’s about right then??

mummykezza · 18/10/2017 09:01

I have a lot of punches set aside for some people too. Appreciate people just say things without thinking and mean no harm but seriously!!

Had the worse day at work yesterday and i'm 2 days into the TWW so refusing alcohol but man did I want to bury myself in a bottle of red wine. How do you guys stay distracted during the TWW? x

GreyCloudsToday · 18/10/2017 09:15

I feel like punching those ClearBlue actresses skipping around the room with their wee stick telling their mates they're preggo Grin

Congrats yellow!

yellowfrontdoor · 18/10/2017 09:17

@GreyCloudsToday YES!

‘I’m two weeks...’
‘You saw the doctor already?!’

🤦🏼‍♀️

yellowfrontdoor · 18/10/2017 09:23

Oh and YouTube pregnancy reveals, really OTT gender reveal parties.

Feck off with your gender-stereotyping-coloured cakes/balloons/trained dancing rabbits.

Pre-MC me would’ve shrugged them off as ‘meh’. Post MC me thinks celebrating any pregnancy before 38 weeks is terribly naive, and who cares what sex your tiny baby is?! You have a tiny baby & I want one! And I wouldn’t give a shiny shite what I had!!!

Aaaaaaaand breathe.

Fillybee · 18/10/2017 09:25

Hi guys just thought I’d let you know some info I got from the recurrent miscarriage clinic appointment that I went to yesterday, which you may or may not be interested in. It’s a really long message, but I wanted to let you know in case any of it could be any help. If you can’t be bothered to read the whole thing, the take home headlines are: aspirin is definitely recommended and be as informed as possible before you go to an appointment.

So first steps were an ultrasound scan and blood tests (the blood tests were for autoimmune diseases like lupus). As I’m actually pregnant again already he said it wouldn’t be appropriate to do these, which is fair enough. As I’m taking high dose folic acid, I hadn’t started low dose aspirin yet as I wanted to check whether it could interfere with this at all. So I asked about whether I should start the aspirin (75mg) and he was like YES! He got very excited and said this was basically the most important thing, he said low dose aspirin is more or less the only thing that there is clear evidence to back up that it does help with miscarriage (even if no clotting disorders etc have been identified). He said I should absolutely start on it ASAP. So this may be something you guys want to consider- I don’t know if there are any conditions that could contraindicate the use of 75mg aspirin and I didn’t ask if it was best to start it while TTC or only when you get bfp, so you may want to do a bit more digging especially if you have any other conditions, but as I say he was very, very enthusiastic about it.

I asked if there was anything else I could use now that I am pregnant that might help things along- I said ‘like progesterone and thyroxin’ as these are things I’d seen mentioned on various forums and because in my office I sit near the research midwives and one of them mentioned to me that they had just finished a study that gave women who had a history of early bleeding/miscarriage progesterone. He said that thyroxin would probably only be useful if someone had thyroid problems. Re progesterone, he said the results of the study weren’t out yet and previous evidence that it’s helpful is not conclusive BUT he said that when women have IVF, they are routinely given progesterone for the first few weeks to help with implantation and early pregnancy. He said that this in itself would suggest that there are benefits to it, and that they had prescribed it previously in this clinic. He said that if I understood that there wasn’t currently any concrete evidence for its use, but there was also no evidence to contraindicate it, then he would be happy to prescribe it for me, but only because I’d mentioned it myself… So I’ve now got a letter to take to my GP asking them to prescribe progesterone pessaries (for the vag) and heparin injections, both of which need to be taken twice daily until 14 weeks when you start weaning yourself off them. The heparin is a blood thinning agent and also does something else that I’ve forgotten, I’m not exactly sure why this goes hand in hand with the progesterone but apparently it does…

I asked about the NK cells theory. He had heard of it and explained the theory for the benefit of my husband (basically that some women have higher levels of Natural Killer cells in their uterus than other women, which may be killing the embryo basically). He said there definitely could be some truth in it but at the moment this is not looked into/treated on the NHS (which I knew) but he said that one of the private places that does it (Coventry) had emailed him recently to ask if he had any women with recurrent miscarriages that he would like to put forward to be part of their research trial (i.e. you’d get the private treatment for free) I’d read it costs a few thousand pounds, so I was like errrr yes please! But I said I supposed I wouldn’t be eligible now as I was already pregnant and he said he’d find out.

I asked if I could take the normal pregnacare etc while I’m taking the high dose folic acid (as I’d read you couldn’t else you’d be overdosing on folic acid) but he said it was fine.

I asked about the chiropractor and he said he can’t see what good that would do.

I asked about the “unfussy womb/hyperfertility” theory and he said he’d never heard of it and even if it was a thing, he didn’t know what could be done. I mentioned IVF as then you’d only use ‘good’ embryos but he said the rates of miscarriage among IVF are no better than in spontaneous pregnancies so this wouldn’t support the use of IVF in women with “hyperfertility”.

I asked how careful I should be with caffeine as I really do enjoy my tea and he said 2 cups a day should be nothing to worry about.

I asked if the fact I’d had a bad reaction to a mosquito bite a day or 2 before my third miscarriage could have caused it and he said if your inflammatory markers are up this can cause preterm labour but mostly in the second trimester so he didn’t think that would be the cause at 7.5 weeks.

He asked me where I’d learned about all these theories from and I said online forums where women write about their experiences of miscarriage!

So basically I’m going to be on a cocktail of drugs for the next few weeks- high dose folic acid, low does aspirin, progesterone pessaries and heparin injections but on the plus side I will allow myself to have 2 cups of tea!!

He was a registrar not a consultant (but the midwives had said I’d be better off with a reg as they are more enthusiastic and have something to prove unlike a consultant) he was a really nice guy and he patiently answered our long list of questions. My only concern was that he wouldn’t have said anything about the progesterone or the NK cells unless I’d mentioned it, which doesn’t seem fair to people who may be less informed/wouldn’t feel they could mention something they’d read online.

Sorry for the very long message!

yellowfrontdoor · 18/10/2017 09:31

Oh my goodness @Fillybee I’ve literally read your message out to my mum whilst I wait for my DH to do a job before we go.

It sounds like an amazing appointment, the aspirin thing has made me so happy.
I saw a HORRIBLE GP in August who told me aspirin made no difference, don’t take it, it’s a myth etc etc. I’ve started it now while I’m ttc.

Do you feel positive? You sound quite inspired!

Hopefully you can do the study!

weasledee · 18/10/2017 09:53

Great post Filly, really interesting read! Thanks for posting :) x

TheGrumpySquirrel · 18/10/2017 11:34

Thanks filly for your super informative post. I’m off to buy low dose aspirin! I did take it for 1 cycle but then stopped. Obviously I’ve only had one miscarriage but anything that can help my chances of the next one sticking would be great. I’m debating calling in sick tomorrow and/or Friday. I just need some time for myself right now and to clear my head. My vitamins are helping and I think B5 and B12 are meant to be good for mental health too.
