First time TTC - join me on this journey

Hi all, this is my first time TTC and would be grateful for anyone else who wants to join this journey with me until I get a BFP.

I have been using the Period Diary app to track my ovulation/fertility dates. I have a period that lasts 6 days and usually my cycle is approx 27days. According to the app my ovulation date was yesterday (13th Feb). We have tried twice before this date.

Wondering if there are any others which have had successful pregnancies using solely apps? Or if they have any tips on identifying ovulation?

Would love to share the highs and lows with you lovely people on this journey x

Hi Blondie I recommend buying the pregnacare, some of my friends used other brands which gave them upset tummies . Fingers crossed we all get a bfp soon! My friends are soon excited for me to have a baby soon, even started discussing my baby shower lol.... But premature I know. Lol. Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday's.... Me and the girls just baked a huge cake and will proceed to devour it shortly x

EveWebster · 13/03/2016 16:06

I have no idea if I'm ovulating at the moment. I know discharge changes and that was my only indicator last month that I was ovulating. A work colleague said she got an ovulating test, which I really need to invest in. I was going to take the tablets for 3 months before starting. The folic acid tablets I'm on are recommended by Bounty. As I said, I'm really new to all this.

Bellini239 · 13/03/2016 18:09

Hi eve, yeah that sounds like a good plan... Start taking the folic acid and then try in a few months. I use these amazing ovulation sticks from Amazon and they're soooooo cheap and reliable.... The clearblue ones are the same but silly expensive! But after some point i would personally go and get a blood test just to check you're ovulating depending on how many cycles you e been trying for.

ppaaWWss · 14/03/2016 08:01

Hi everyone, can I join the party? I'm 32 and came off the pill in Jan. Trying to relax and let it happen but it's so hard! I started having regular cycles immediately, but I never felt confident I was ovulating because my periods were so light. AF arrived 3 days late today (which felt like forever; my husband was pretty much picking out baby rugby shirts) and she's much more, erm, emphatic this time round , so hopefully that's a good sign!

Like a lot of you guys, I always just thought it would happen immediately, so am totally unequipped for all this waiting, and can't help but read all kinds of things into every little cramp or other symptoms like bigger boobs, which is probably all just normal cycle stuff that I'm nut used to from being on the pill!

But hey, if I have my period I guess that means I can have a glass of wine tonight, right?

Blondie0912 · 14/03/2016 08:26

Hey ppaa! I was the same- my AF after the pill was very light for 3/4 cycles so I convinced myself that must mean I wasn't ovulating- my GP basically told me I was crazy Blush and over-thinking everything haha- but since the little ovulation sticks don't work for me, I am having a blood test to check whether I'm ovulating- fingers crossed! I swear this whole process changes you!!!!
On the plus side- enjoy that glass (or 2!) of wine Grin

ppaaWWss · 14/03/2016 09:01

Thanks Blondie! Fingers crossed you get a good result from the blood test! I am definitely over-thinking things, but it seems impossible not to... it's a pretty hard thing to forget about!

Bellini239 · 14/03/2016 11:30

Hi pppaa, welcome! Yeah it's really hard to not think about it! People tell me to not even bother with the ovulation kits but I'm scared if I don't use them I'll be having sex at completely the wrong time! I paid for private tests for me and husband to have a full fertility check, it was money week spent in my view! X good luck

ppaaWWss · 14/03/2016 12:43

Thanks Bellini! The fertility check sounds very reassuring - that's something I will definitely look into in a few months time if we don't get pregnant before then.

The nurse at my GP told me to have sex all the way through the cycle to make sure you don't miss it - which works for me, especially since I think I'm too much of a wimp to start prodding my own cervix (which I guess doesn't bode well for childbirth, but I'm trying not to think about that either!)

Good luck to you too!

piraterach · 15/03/2016 18:09

Hi

Can I join?
I'm 28 and ttc #1. I came off bc pills in Jan and had my withdrawal bleed. One month on and I've had AF for the past two weeks!

I'm hoping it's just everything settling down from being on bc for 7 years.

It's great to hear other people going through the same stuff (although we're holding off ttc again until April). Fingers crossed 2017 baby for us! Smile

EveWebster · 15/03/2016 20:24

Welcome ppa and piraterach. Quick question everybody: did you get up to date with all your immunisations before ttc? I'm currently going through our weekly shopping orders and adding food in that creates a healthy diet to conceive. My job is my main worry, as it stressful and not probably the right environment for me to be happy and healthy while ttc.

Elisawray84 · 15/03/2016 20:45

Hi everyone! I would love to join the conversation. I have stopped taking the pill last April, however haven't been successful yet..I think worrying and stressing about it will not help me to get pregnant. Both my husband and I have been taking Pregnancare His and Hers, however I think we will need to go and see the GP In a couple of months if nothing happens.. 😔

Blondie0912 · 15/03/2016 21:03

Hey Elisa- welcome!!!!!! Don't get worried or stressed- you're totally right it can't help! I think these message boards are amazing for realising how normal all these things are.... So many people are in the same boat- you definitely are not alone Smile. Have you been using a period-tracker to help you guess when you're ovulating? I use Ovia and it's really good- I'd recommend!
Eve- you're so organised! I didn't get all of my immunisations checked before we started TTC; I have a feeling they check that stuff once your pregnant... Hmm let me know if you find out anything!

Bellini239 · 15/03/2016 21:44

Hey Eve and welcome newbies... Exactly see where you are a few months from now.... I just think for piece of mine the private tests are worthwhile for both you and your man.... What's the point in trying for a whole year only to find out then there were some issues... Eg some friends I know didn't bother with the tests and after about 15 months found out both their guys had v low sperm counts! And then the dr told them oh basically there was never any chance they could ever conceive naturally.... So for me, and on the back of advice form others, that's why I did the tests. But you've only just started ttc so see how it goes! I also did all my immunisations before ttc, took the pre Natals and really made an effort in the food department... Sounds like you have it all under control though :) which opks do you use? I use these ones from eBay they're great and aooooo cheap! X

CFor123 · 15/03/2016 22:08

Hello all, can I join too please...?
I'm 32, came off the pill in January and am ttc#1!

Bellini239 · 15/03/2016 22:48

Of course, everyone is welcome!!! Welcome!!

ppaaWWss · 16/03/2016 06:53

Welcome CFor, Elisa and Piraterach! It's great to know other people are going through the same stuff.

Eve, I didn't get my vaccinations checked, but you have inspired me to now! I did go for a pap smear but was told they won't do it if there is the slightest chance of you being pregnant.

Elisa, I know what you mean with the job stress; I used to have a ridiculously stressful job and I ended up quite physically illl from it. Can you make time to look after yourself more, try out some ways of staying calm? One of the things that helped me was using Headspace - 10 minute meditations on an app/website, and also getting out for a quick walk during the day. Even if it has nothing to do with ttc, investing a bit in staying happy is definitely worthwhile, though everyone is different in what helps them, and what is possible for them given specific circumstances. Good luck! x

Bellini239 · 17/03/2016 21:22

How is everyone doing? X

Blondie0912 · 18/03/2016 07:31

Hey Bellini-coming towards the end of the 2WW over here- AF due on Sunday... Pretty sure she's on the way so not looking forward to that! Confused However, I am going on vacation next week with the DH so at least there is something good around the corner regardless! How about you guys???

Bellini239 · 18/03/2016 15:23

Hey Blondie! I'm in my 2ww too, don't think I'm preggers either! How many months have you been ttc for now? So Dh and I have started discussing a strategy when it comes to IVF.... I think basically if I'm not pregnant by June we want to begin treatment .... I'm just so tired and the more time goes on I'm feeling less optimistic .... X

EveWebster · 18/03/2016 15:53

Welcome Elisa and CFor. I'm still in my three months folic acid phase. I rang and booked an appointment for a pre-conceive check up but I'm having to wait weeks. My problem is my stress levels are through the roof and my cycle is still not back to normal. Me thinks it might be the stress from work. What about everyone else?

Blondie0912 · 18/03/2016 18:23

Totally get you Bellini. We've been trying since July; but my cycles didn't really start until November so pretty sure I wasn't ovulating or anything until then. January & February I was absolutely slammed at work so DTD was very limited- so I'm trying to start fresh now and actively try at the right times. I know in the scheme of things it's not that long but it convinces me there must be something wrong since nothing has happened yet Confused. You're so on top of everything! I think I'll give it till the summer but will definitely take your advice on going private. I hadn't considered that before but it makes so much since rather than waiting!!!!!

Bellini239 · 18/03/2016 19:09

Hey Bellini and everyone else! Yeah it's soooo frustrating ... But yeah I would recommend aoonish maybe getting tests done depending on whether you wanna wait or not--- as I'm 32 I want to move a bit quicker you see.... For me it just helps having a plan rather than sitting here questioning everything .... Keep me posted if you get a bfp!!!! X

EveWebster · 18/03/2016 20:28

Fingers crossed Bellini. Did you all try a different diet when you started ttc? Blondie, I definitely think stress has a negative impact, which is why I have taken drastic measures to change my life. I'm going to try meditating and definitely do more yoga to calm me down.

CFor123 · 19/03/2016 19:13

Hello everybody! Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I've been really busy at work! I have had 2 X AF's since I stopped the pill but I'm not sure if I have ovulated or not. I'm trying to just stay calm and let things happen, which is difficult as we both really want to start our family. I have been taking folic acid since the start of January and am keeping everything crossed for a BFP soon. It sounds silly but I don't think until we started trying that I knew a blooming thing about how your monthly cycle works. With having been on the pill for a fair few years I have no idea what is normal for me so this makes it a bit more difficult. I have been using Ovia but I'm undecided if I like the app or not.

Bellini239 · 20/03/2016 09:58

Hi, why don't you like about ovia? I can barely work out the other apps haha! X
