First time TTC - join me on this journey

Hi all, this is my first time TTC and would be grateful for anyone else who wants to join this journey with me until I get a BFP.

I have been using the Period Diary app to track my ovulation/fertility dates. I have a period that lasts 6 days and usually my cycle is approx 27days. According to the app my ovulation date was yesterday (13th Feb). We have tried twice before this date.

Wondering if there are any others which have had successful pregnancies using solely apps? Or if they have any tips on identifying ovulation?

Would love to share the highs and lows with you lovely people on this journey x

Hi all.
I have been on the pill for nearly nine years. Me and husband 'think' we would love to ttc. We just think when will there ever be a right time!! Isn't it best to see if it happens! I'm just petrified of what will happen when I come off pill. Will I ovulate? Will af arrive? What's everyone's experiences so far of coming off?
Thanks all.

MrsGsnow18 · 22/05/2016 16:01

Hi Sshsecretenclosed Everyone's body is different, for me I was always irregular before going on the pill. I always had very short AF with the pill, coming off it after 10+ years I'm having AF fairly regularly, very long cycles and still working things out but I was relieved that my body seemed to know what to do!
If you were regular before going on the pill then chances are high that you will going back to having a fairly regular cycle, can sometimes just take a few months for some people.
If you and your husband have discussed and feel ready ( and you're right there no perfect or right time or we'd all never have children!) then go for it, come off the pill and start using a diary or ttc app to track your cycle info/data which should help you see if/when you ovulate etc!

Hi shhsecretenclosed. I had been on the pill for 10 years. I stopped taking it on Apr 21st and had a wb. Started using opks, ovulated on 2nd May. AF arrived on 18th May so now I'm on cd5 and just waiting for the fertile window. I'm amazed it's gone back to normal quite quickly. I was worried because my friend stopped taking the pill and still hasn't had AF for 6 months.
I think you're right, I think especially with #1 you never feel "ready" and you've eventually just got to take the plunge and see what happens!
I'm 29yo, nearly 30, TTC #1

Sshsecretenclosed · 22/05/2016 19:27

Thanks ladies. I'm 28 been married almost a year in July and we just go round in circles about ttc. It's good to hear we are not in the minority. We just have worries about finances and I'm doing an OU degree, which I fingers cross should finish next June. Feel like I have so much I still want to achieve but I don't want to be an older mum. It's so hard being a woman!!

Eva30 · 22/05/2016 22:08

I know, I started a new job in January so was going to wait a year but now I think something will always be going on in life so need to make baby making a priority instead of it being at the back of the queue!

MrsGsnow18 · 22/05/2016 22:20

I agree! I'll be 29 soon and although I feel like there's so much I still want to do, my biological clock well and truly started ticking at 28 and like you Sshsecretenclosed I didn't want to be an older parent.
I realise now too that I'm on my 6 cycle, it's maybe not just going to be as quick as I thought! So I'm glad we started when we did.

marmitetoast1 · 23/05/2016 08:19

I think it's the same for everyone! I'm currently going for a promotion at work and wonder if the timing is right but as others have said it gets to the point when you feel ready enough to say that actually it comes top of your list of priorities and everything else will fall into place around it! I'm 31 and have been married just over a year so I think it's quite a nice time to start TTC. DH has been ready for months but it took me a little longer to get here, I knew it was something I wanted, but just didn't quite feel ready to take the plunge til now!

Sshsecret I'd been on the pill 14 years and had the same worries as you. My first natural cycle last month was 37 days. I'm currently waiting for AF, day 33. I'm currently stressing myself out thinking I'm going to be one of those people who have 1 period off the pill then nothing for 6 months..Confused
I'd say, if you can, something you could do as a first step to get ready before actually deciding to start TTC would be come off the pill now and use other protection for a while. It will give your body time to adjust and you to get to know your cycles which will definitely make things easier when you come to TTC! It's something I really wish I'd done...

By the way, random question, but how on earth do you write people's names in bold on here!?

CinnamonTwist · 23/05/2016 08:45

marmitetoast1 you put a * either side.
I'm the same with waiting vs not waiting, I started a new job at the beginning of this year so was going to wait a bit longer, but we both feel now is the right time and don't know how long it will take anyway... I don't think you ever feel 'ready' we are both slightly terrified but we've been married 3 years, together for 10, own our own home and both know we want to have a family, so we know it's right, but it's such a big decision it'll always be a scary one! I had been on the pill for about 8 years and my cycles are still a little confused after being off for 9 months, but they're getting slowly more regular!

marmitetoast1 · 23/05/2016 09:08

Thanks cinammontwist!
That's good to hear your cycles are getting slowly more regular and can totally relate to how you feel too! Out of interest, were your post-pill cycles totally erratic in length at first or did they follow any sort of pattern?

Sshsecretenclosed · 23/05/2016 21:05

Great to hear I'm not alone in feeling like I do. I think I'm more petrified of heavier periods off of the pill, than ttc at present! Almost delaying the knowing whether my cycle will return or not!! Eeekk all exciting stuff.

CinnamonTwist · 23/05/2016 21:47

marmitetoast1 the first 2 proper cycles were 27 and 28 days and I though oh great that was simple, then they got a bit longer, then I had a really long cycle, which could have been due to the fact that I was severely vitamin d deficient, as the long cycle 'stopped' the day after I started taking the very high dose of vit d the doctor prescribed, and since then they've been 25 days 35 days... Long short long short pattern, so now regularly irregular Hmm

marmitetoast1 · 24/05/2016 09:02

cinamontwist ha to regular irregular! Wonder what the science behind that is? If there is any!
Still no AF - cd 34. Is it normal to have period pains for over a week and still no AF though?!?

Sshsecret I was also worried about being really heavy off the pill. I was put on the pill as a teen as periods so heavy I would faint most months. I've only had one natural period since coming off which was pretty similar to being on the pill though. Although from what I understand they can take a while to get heavier...

We watched The Great Sperm Race for a bit of education last night - very insightful! Also quite amusing! Anyone else watched it?

Russkispy · 24/05/2016 15:32

Just had my first fertility acupuncture, £85 and 3 hours later and lighter I've finally emerged, smelling of roses 😉 This price includes a consultation and first treatment. We talked a lot about fertility, ovulation, fertility window, foods, body chemicals, pregnancy etc really enjoyed the chat! She'll send me a list of food to incorporate into my diet. Will let you know. My 2nd appointment is in 2 weeks.
I'm currently on CD10, DTD on CD5, 7 and 9. She advised to DTD every other day from end of your period all the way through to CD21. Providing I'm usually 28-29 CDs. Which I am. Already changes in CM. "Science" continues till CD21 😉

MrsGsnow18 · 24/05/2016 22:48

Glad to hear it went well Russkispy! I look forward to hearing how it goes!

CinnamonTwist · 28/05/2016 08:43

Russkispy be interesting to know if you think it makes a difference or not, I've been trying acupuncture for my skin and I can't decide if it's doing anything or not!
I think AF will arrive today, as its my 'short cycle' it's the right time and I have AF like pains. This would mean we would officially be entering our first ttc cycle... Grin
I was wondering about creating a new thread, as this one has been going since Feb? Or is everyone happy to stick to this one?

Russkispy · 28/05/2016 10:35

Not feeling anything different just yet. My next session is in 2 weeks. In the meantime we're DTD every day, every other day, I'm in CD14 today and been OPK since CD8. Might be OV today. I'll be testing later. I'm yet to receive a list of foods from the acupuncturist. Will post on here once got them

sparksalot · 28/05/2016 10:53

Cinnamon I think a new thread would be good.
I'm on CD 12 today and we've been following the smep plan. Lots of dtd, we're shattered lol!
