Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Thanks Wispa, I used the normal digital ones (which have caused me enough stress) I felt the ones with the flashing smileys would cause me too much confusion, I'm easily confused Grin and I agree, POS has driven me insane!

HighHopes16 · 04/04/2016 09:36

Morning all! My ovia app says 5 days till pregnancy test so think I'm going to POAS Friday morning eeek FX! x

TheresaMarie55 · 04/04/2016 20:40

Fx high hopes! I'm now officially in the ttc club 😁 . Stopped taking the pill, a couple of days earlier than we'd said but we're both so ready. The earliest its possible for me to be due (if I fell pregnant at the earliest physically possible time) is January 1st. Hmmm, guess the not being due around Christmas thing went out the window. Very unlikely that will happen though, I've stopped the pill 8 days into a pack so not sure when I'll have my bleed but it's due on the 18th. Will just have to see. If I haven't come on by 1st of May that's when I'll test x

wispaxmas · 04/04/2016 21:10

FX high hopes and Theresa!!!

CD4 for me, AF pretty much gone, could be my second last AF for a year or so! Hah, as if it'll happen first cycle trying in May. Still, I'm looking forward to no AF right now more than any baby Grin

TheresaMarie55 · 04/04/2016 22:29

I was chatting to hubby and was saying, obviously I'm looking forward to the actual, having a baby lol but the thing I'm really looking forward to is being pregnant again. Don't get me wrong it has its ups and downs but I loved it so much. Feeling baby inside is the most amazing feeling ever x

BertieBotts · 04/04/2016 22:51

I'm looking forward to both bits Theresa :) I loved being pregnant. I think I'll have to have more tests this time though :(

TheresaMarie55 · 04/04/2016 23:34

Sorry if I've missed it already, tests for what? How many children do you have? X

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 06:57

I just have the one but DS has a different father to DH. DH has a translocation which means that a baby might be higher risk for certain trisomies or might be likely to miscarry. We don't know which outcome is possible/likely unless DH has blood tests which he was initially unwilling to do (which I thought was unfair as the alternative is invasive testing for me in pregnancy with tests which can cause miscarriage themselves, and I'm rubbish with needles whereas he doesn't mind) but he's more open to it now. He just didn't want it confirmed if there was something "wrong" with our baby that it was his fault. I guess he knows it's not his fault really, in that he has no control over it but he's always known about this problem basically and been given really rubbish half information from the time he was a teenager and it's always bothered him.

wispaxmas · 05/04/2016 07:15

Bertie, sounds a bit rubbish that he has been poorly informed throughout his life, but I'm glad he's now willing to do the test to spare more invasive tests for you.

I don't know if I'm looking forward to pregnancy so much, really. I mean, it wasn't bad last time at all, even with pelvic trouble (PGP) towards the end, I was just so anxious the whole time! DD barely kicked at all I ended up in for monitoring a few times. I think DD was just lazy, though or very sleepy, because she continues to love sleep to this day!

wispaxmas · 05/04/2016 07:17

Just a thought, bertie, but is it something you could get the harmony test for? I know it tests for trisomies, and might be a bit pricey, but I know some people who got t without any increased familial risk factors.

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 07:41

I haven't really looked into it but I'm not in the UK - is harmony only a UK thing or is it worldwide? We are in Germany. We get good healthcare here so I'm not too worried about finding a geneticist but I'm a little bit anxious because last time we mentioned it to our GP she insisted on sending me off for loads of tests first and I couldn't communicate to her that it's not "we think we might have a problem", it's that we KNOW DH has a problem but we want to know the extent of it. Then it just became too complicated and we decided to stop TTC but now we are in a position to try again. DH is going to ask his parents if they have any blood test results from when he was a child but it's doubtful.

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 07:48

Ah actually having looked I don't think so, as it only tests for three specific trisomies and what happens with a translocation is that two chromosomes get mixed up or attached to each other. If DH can find out which two chromosomes it is, then we can find out what's likely to be the outcome. The most common one is 13/14 apparently. So it might be worth it to test for Trisomy 13 but that doesn't then test for monosomy 13, monosomy 14 or trisomy 14.

But, this is the result of my fervent googling, I'm not a doctor and I don't know that much about genetics.

jennymac31 · 05/04/2016 08:33

I know what you mean wispaxmas! I'm slightly anxious about the next pregnancy. I was extremely impatient the first time round and I don't think it will be any better next time around, especially as i'm a few years older & am heavier. First pregnancy was deemed high risk so no doubt the next one will be.
Should find out in a week's time whether i'm gonna be made redundant so much as I want to start ttc (dd keeps asking for baby sister) will have to hold off until next week hopefully!

TheresaMarie55 · 05/04/2016 08:54

Hope you get the answers to it all soon Bertie, sounds like the doctors are dragging their feet which must be frustrating.

I had a bit of pelvic pain last time to wispa but think the amount of weight I gained didn't help. I gained a pretty average two stone with my first pregnancy but gained a whopping four stone with my second. I weigh a stone less now than I did when I fell pregnant first time so feel I'm starting in a much better place and will be conscious of what I eat this time.

I've been lucky that I've had no problems in my pregnancies but I will likely need the glucose tolerance test. I had to have it with my second as my first baby was above average weight (9lb2oz) . My second baby was 9lb3.5 so I'll have it logged that I have a history of larger babies. X

BertieBotts · 05/04/2016 09:15

It's just my doctor I think. I've had similar issues with her over other things too so I'm looking to change. She likes to go through a very set procedure which seems to take forever over everything and won't discuss options, she just decides what is best and in what order. If I agree with her then fine, but sometimes I haven't which is frustrating as she's not open to discussion.

Thanks :)

FriendlyGhost · 05/04/2016 09:28

I'm still waiting for AF here. Should be here by the weekend and once that's over I can start trying. I've had no luck charting my temperature as dd has been waking up lots at night so I have been up and down with her and the results I've managed have been all over the place. Still no idea if I'm actually ovulating!
Part of me can't wait to be pregnant but I think I'm blocking out the horrible anxiety and sickness I had last time. No idea how to cope with sickness with an active and non sleeping toddler but at least I'm not working now. The commute was brutal. I expect I will also need the glucose test as my dd was over 10lbs. Still not sure how that happened!
I hope you get the answers you need Bertie. It's much better to go into these things with as much information as possible.

TheresaMarie55 · 05/04/2016 09:55

Hmm, sounds similar to my doctor Bertie, ver annoying!

Wow ghost, chunky baby for you there 😊 . Different areas do it differently, here if your baby was over 9lb you have the test, some it's if baby is over 10, I'd be surprised if you don't have it. It's not bad, just very boring sitting there. Hopefully your sickness won't be as bad, fingers crossed for not at all! X

wispaxmas · 05/04/2016 14:19

I love a chunky baby, they feel far less fragile!! DD was 9lb6oz Blush

FriendlyGhost · 05/04/2016 14:36

Me too Wispa. I felt exactly the same. Bring on another round of little chunks Grin

HighHopes16 · 05/04/2016 15:25

All this talk of chunky babies is making me so broody!! Smile

Yawninghippo · 05/04/2016 16:44

Hi all,

I'm getting all impatient now, due AF in 10 days, and really hoping I don't get it.

Me and my partner have also been referred for genetic testing which will hopefully be in a few weeks. We're both looking forward to talking things over with an expert and getting an idea of if we might have any trouble.

I had big babies too, both girls were over 9lb and had all CS's so will have that all planned ahead which is a comfort for me!

TheresaMarie55 · 05/04/2016 21:23

Eek, it's making me broody to, feel like my ovaries are gonna explode 😂 . I had what I'd class as an ok birth with my first, second was an amazing water birth and I'm hoping for the same again x

TheresaMarie55 · 06/04/2016 06:36

So, it would appear my body is rearing to go. Took my last pill on Saturday and have come on in the night. Means if my cycle is going straight back to normal my fertile window is between the 17th and 22nd. So I'll be testing on 4th of May if I don't get af x

BertieBotts · 06/04/2016 14:19

My friend has just had a lovely water birth at home Envy I am in Germany this time so no gas and air Shock which is a bit scary! They do have water pools here, though. And lots of active birth stuff, which seems good.

TheresaMarie55 · 06/04/2016 14:26

I had gas and air with my first, gave birth to her on the hospital bed. With my second I didn't have anything but found being in the water really helped. Was a much faster Labour second time around though, first was pretty long. X
