I'm new to mumsnet and it's so nice to find an over 40's thread.. I'm 41 and have 3 children from a previous relationship. I'm now in a new relationship and my partner and I have been actively trying a couple of months.. I'm a couple of days from AF and for the last week have been on a bit of a testing frenzy! I've used the 10 miu internet cheapies ( mixed results) a faint pos on FRER and a pregnant 1-2 wks on CB digital :)

Artio · 07/08/2015 13:11

Welcome nicolajane1974, and congratulations! Exciting, and good to hear. :)

ababsurdum · 07/08/2015 14:30

Congratulations nicolajane Smile

Emerald72 · 08/08/2015 17:28

Welcome nicolajane and that sounds very positive!!! Fingers crossed for you! I had my DS at 41 no problem with him.

Artio I never used to do supplements but since mc3 I'm now trying everything I can! Following plan in Rebecca Fett book 'It starts with the egg.' Plus few extras. Not sure if taking loads has counterproductive effect?!

ababsurdum · 08/08/2015 18:17

Emerald I haven't read that book, is it good?

We still haven't discussed things further. I'll be ovulating next week.

Emerald72 · 09/08/2015 12:43

abs yes very good and easy to read too, makes a lot of sense. Would def recommend. I got it from Cloud. Oh you haven't? are you going to go for it next week?

ababsurdum · 09/08/2015 14:20

Thanks Emerald, I've put it on my kindle.

I doubt we'll try next week but you never know!

Emerald72 · 10/08/2015 00:17

Aba. great! Hope you find it useful as I am, let me know how you get on

ashboo76 · 10/08/2015 14:42

Hi ladies

Just thought if tell my story nothing out of the ordinary but all the same.

I got my BFP yesterday Grin after bring 4 days late (was on holiday no tests around). We had been ttc for 11 months and we are both 39 no other dcs. We had an mc in march at 6 ish weeks so I'm now very anxious but positive. I feel different to last time very bold positive in window as opposed to a false neg and faint line second test last time and tests taken at 5 days late last time. I'm shattered but happy.... Only thing we did different ... Acupuncture! I'll b

ashboo76 · 10/08/2015 14:43

Oops pressed to soon ... I'll be 40 two weeks after due date and can't think of a better present Smile good luck everyone xxx

ababsurdum · 10/08/2015 16:57

Congratulations ashboo, that's wonderful news. I was looking into acupuncture for my second round of IVF but happily I got a natural bfp and didn't need it. It seems to help lots of people conceive. How many sessions did you have?

ashboo76 · 10/08/2015 18:46

I only actually had two! But she is a Chinese doctor that specialises in fertility so is very well informed. I think the most important thing she said was stop taking neurofen it interferes with ovulation and 8 weeks later I'm pregnant! ... I was taking it a lot as I had an old back injury that was stopping me running but I'm never taking them again Grin. I'm going for acupuncture again tomo she specialises in fertility but also through to birth so deals with aches and pains and stuff so will keep it up and she's lovely much more personal than hospitals etc xx but I will go to the hospital too ! Shock

Emerald72 · 10/08/2015 21:40

.'congrats ' to you Ashboo that's great news. I swear by acupuncture too, it's helped me before and I conceived DS at 40 after 7mths trying

10000Fireflies · 10/08/2015 22:26

Evening ladies. I see lots of newbies have joined while I have been AWOL. Greetings all. Hope to get to know you better by being a bit more reg in my posting, now have put some busy times behind me.

Am throwing myself into trying to have DC2. Honestly don't fancy my chances as just about to turn 46. However, have just had appt today to find out about using our frozen embryo. Consultant v positive about it. Is good quality and, being 4 years old could be in with some chance of success. She said no way to a fresh IVF cycle as chances are 1%. Felt pretty sad to hear a straight 'no'.

Am likely perimenopausal. Cycle suddenly 14-17 days instead of 24. Feel foul much of time. Just suddenly went like that and i know this cycle will also be short as ovd on day 10. Thank goodness for reading thread from time to time. Have booked backup appt with Grizzer's herbal gynae to see what they can do. Then checked out ARGC for umpteenth time and did some research into IVF clinics abroad. And DEs. Felt better for doing something.

Consultant has set homework to wean DS asap. This is going to be tough as he's now bragging that he still BFs to his mates. (He's 3 BTW. Not quite bitty territory yet...!!)

God, I wish I was early 40s still!

Big waves to all my old thread mates. I know lots of you have been successful and are now on your own old folks preggo thread. Will pop in and wave pom poms soon. Noticed a few name checks in the last couple of months and must say, really appreciated that you were thinkin of me from time to time even if I had deserted you.

On phone which is a PITA to post on, so off now. Have a good night all, and cat,h up soon. Ff xx

Emerald72 · 10/08/2015 23:36

Hello fireflies and nice to meet you! Good on you for deciding to Ttc no2. Must be hard to hear a no for IVF, but good news you have a decent Frozen embie waiting there! Was that from previous round? Sounds very promising. Would you do abroad IVF or de? What's ARGC? And have you tried acupuncture?
I'm 43.5 and Ttc no2, but had 3mc in last year, currently having tests for RMC before trying again. Consultant said we still have a chance but de could be an option. Found out last MC was chromosome issues.
Still it's good to hear lots on here have been successful! Best of luck to all Smile

Grizzer · 11/08/2015 08:58

Hi everyone, just poking my head in to see how you're getting on. Sounds like you're really going for it FF. Glad you've made an appt with Dr Wing, he has a very good reputation. The first time I went, I was early so went for coffee at a nearby garden centre then proceeded to traipse mud all along the cream carpet of the very posh building! So embarrassing!
Good luck with the weaning. Amazing you kept up bf for that long. It wasn't my favourite thing I must confess.....
Congratulations Ashboo.
I have a couple of friends who started the IVF process & found they were naturally pregnant Abab. They swear it's the dye that's flushed through clearing their tubes out!
Hi Emerald. It sounds like your body is good at filtering out the 'bad' eggs & you still get pregnant frequently so it's very hopeful.
I'm 18 weeks today. Baby is the size of a bell pepper according to my 'cute fruit' app which dd loves!
Hi to everyone else. Are you still here Jass? Hope you're doing ok.

Hi all – haven’t posted in ages, so I’ve been catching up.

Many congrats to nicolajane and ashboo76 on your BFPs – plus any other BFPs I’ve missed.

It was wonderful to read that cloudjumper and Grizzer (18 weeks Grin) are progressing so smoothly with their pregnancies. Must be time to relax and enjoy the bump. I hope Flotillas is enjoying a h&h pregnancy too.
Cloud I was interested to read that your AMH levels were low, yet you're obviously doing so well. I wondered whether the ‘0.4’ you mentioned was on the ng/ml, or the p/mol scale? And may I ask, did you take DHEA before you conceived, I can’t remember?

joey38: did you have your IVF consultation today? I hope it was positive and encouraging stuff!

As Grizzer said – how are you doing Jass?

Well there's been a couple of birthdays in our house lately. DD (my only DC) turned 2 and is definitely not my little baby any more (she thinks she’s at least 7). A week later I turned 46, which was seriously no fun. DP is still 45 and irritatingly smug about it.
I’ve been wondering where the last year has gone in TTC terms. Pregnant on my 45th birthday, but sadly miscarried last September. Took a couple of months off TTC to get my head together, whilst starting DHEA. Then 2015 brought firstly, too-low thyroid tests (so had to increase my meds) then some annoying ovarian cysts, and just recently mega-high thyroid tests (TSH

jassS · 11/08/2015 20:40

me 45 and still trying. Less and less seriously though, as the hormonal urgency to fall pg wears off after mc. I am totally OK though, playing with my granddaughter during my holidays and happy to have someone to give the little cute monster back when she gets unhappy. Feels good.

Emerald72 · 11/08/2015 21:48

Hi Grizzer glad to hear you and your pepper are doing well! Thanks, I hope so, just wish it would stop implanting bad eggs! Fingers crossed for a good one next time.

Hi Chewy nice to meet you and hear your story too. Sorry to hear of your loss, did you find out a cause for it? I am also encouraged to hear you had your Dd at 44 though! Gives me hope! Was that pg problem free? I'm considering taking Dhea very soon once I've had my tests at RMC clinic, anything to boost my eggs. I didn't know about the thyroid thing, think my thyroid levels are ok but wouldn't want that to put them out. Advice anyone? I'm 43.5 and have very low AMH but have been getting pg. just need to catch s good egg. We were advised against IVF with my low AMH and fact we have got pg as a couple.
Arlene Phillips and Halle Berry both had babies at 47!

Jass sounds good you have a little one you can hand back at end of the day when it gets too much!

10000Fireflies · 12/08/2015 15:29

Just popping in to say hi. Nice to see you again Chewy. It is tough post 45, isn't it. Jass you're sounding nicely chilled. I am not at all at the moment!! Will try and post a bit more later when I've assimilated some of the latest posts.

Been wondering about setting up an over 45s thread!

Waves to Grizzer and your pepper!!

joey38 · 12/08/2015 20:26

Hi everyone. Great to hear the positive stories from those who have had healthy children in their '40s. Actually I shouldn't forget that I am one too - I had my ds when I was 41 (not far off 42) but I'm on here because I'm greedy and I want another one!!

Thanks chewy for asking after me and also those who gave me positive vibes after my last post about deciding to go to a private clinic. So I had my 'initial' appointment on Tuesday. It was a lovely place, but the appointment was a bit of a waste of time (and money at £190!!). I guess because I have already seen my GP quite a bit and also NHS consultants (plus all my great info from you lot) they didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. Unfortunately they can't tell you why you're not getting pregnant just by talking to you!! However they were quite positive about the fact that I'd had a natural pregnancy fairly recently (2012) which they said would bode well for ivf. Anyway I have to go back for baseline tests when I get my next period, along with dh for the spermy test, and then they will advise on what treatment they think might be appropriate. It's kind of scary and exciting that we might actually go down the ivf route. I always said I wouldn't for #2 but now I'm feeling quite up for it and dh is on board too.

So, a couple of weeks until then - which means we're supposed to be in the shagging stage right now, but not really trying that hard this month (although it would save us a lot of money if we could go it naturally!!). Maybe I will have to get dh up for an early night Wink.

Will be interested to follow your Ivf story fireflies.

Hi to everyone else trying out there and best of luck.

Emerald72 · 12/08/2015 21:39

Hi Joey we must be a similar age as I had my ds age 41(just) in 2013 feb. now 43.5 and would dearly love another one, been trying a year but had 3mc unfortunately. Having tests now but we were told IVF not worth trying as had got pg as a couple and I have low egg reserve. Just hoping we can fall naturally again and catch a good egg but who knows. Good luck with your route though, it's exciting to be doing something, let us know how you get on!

Sunbeam18 · 12/08/2015 21:55

Just wanted to post a positive story: I got pregnant a few days after my 40th birthday (with my DP who was 53!) and had fantastic son who is now 2. No probs in pregnancy and took us about 9 months to conceive.

Sunbeam18 · 12/08/2015 22:03

I hope that didn't sound smug in any way. I just want to give encouragement and hope to those looking for positive stories of conception at 40.

10000Fireflies · 13/08/2015 00:21

Sunbeam you don't sound smug at all. No need to worry about that. But I'm sure I'm not the only who's been on this thread for a good while now thinking... Well, it's not so difficult when you just turn 40. I've come to realise it's when you're getting to 45 or 46 that your chances are very slim.

I called the ARGC today.Their cut off is 44. And anyone looking into DEs? The cut off for new patients at The Lister is 48 (up to and including day before 49th bday!). Just thought I'd get that out there for anyone havering!

Joey it's not really IVF, though I will have to take some meds. Thank goodness there are no injections. It's just oestrogen and something else.

I had an acupuncuture.session on Tues inspired by some chat on here. Hoping it will stabilise my cycle and.cut the pmt down from fortnightly
...

Anyone else with DCs.looking forward to the new term??!!
