'TTC after a miscarriage - new thread'

Well tried to add my bit to old thread and we have reached 1000 posts again!!
Chocolatepeanut, am so sorry for what you are going through, although you sound as if you are handling it well so far. Hope things aren't too bad for you in the coming days.
Rubles, sorry if AF does arrive, bloody bitch! My blood tests will be next week. DP sperm test threw up 'abnormal sperm' and he needs to go and discuss with the GP later this week although she did say it wasn't too much to worry about. Been meaning to start a new thread on this but haven't got around to it.
I'm looking for a yoga class to try and help me relax! Do think this whole TTC is stressing me out so much, I'm so conscious of age gaps, both our ages working against us, even worrying about if we do conceive in next couple of months as worked out it would be a July or August baby (my oldest is July born and is struggling bit with school etc). Part of me thinks it may do us all some good if I just stop ttc for a couple of months, then the other half panics about an even bigger gap, etc!!
How on earth do you all manage to relax about all this stuff??

OP posts:

Good news oinker. Thanks UKI. I have the same problem as in hanging on to them. I wondered whether I lost them because my eggs or his sperm weren't in optimum condition iyswim. I can't be bothered with all that charting stuff but grapefruit juice will be added to my shopping list. DH used to take zinc when we were ttc ds, so will get him to start again. I stopped taking my pregnacare when I m/c (my rebellion)so need to start again.

gillian1973 · 09/12/2006 17:33

Hi all, can I ask how erratic your AFs were after a MC?

I have always been on a relatively short cycle (25 days) and after my MC in Oct my first period was 23-24 days later. I am now due my next period but it has not come yet (day 26 today) so I don't know if I should be back to my normal cycle or not.

Before you ask, no I don't think I could be pregnant. Since the MC I bled for so long ( and the small matter of me finishing a Masters dissertation)that the first time we BD was last Saturday so unless my cycle has extended massivley I don't think I'm pregnant.

Any of you experienced this before?

Uki · 10/12/2006 00:30

Hi Gillian

My cyles after m/c -i've had three tend to get shorter first 42 days then gets back to 28, but not this time had one 28 and then 31 and now day 33 and still waiting for AF. It's so frustrating.

My last m/c was in aug. So it should be right by now, but not.

Maybe i was a bit stressed at ovulation time which means cycle can take longer. Perhaps this happened to you?

HOw is everyone else????

Daph AF dust sent your way, the one and only time I hope too!

rahrah1 · 10/12/2006 10:28

plummymummy - saw that you mentioned Zinc for your husband to take, does that improve the quality of sperm for men? (My DH has a higher % of lazy sperm than the average man - another issue on our ever growing list of baby making problems)
Does anyone know of any other things that can help this - I have told him about not smoking and drinking (He has given up the smoking... has a couple of pints once a week - so just need to work on his diet) Cheers all.

duchesse · 10/12/2006 17:10

waves to Rahrah

Hope your recovery is going as well as can be expected.

rahrah1 · 10/12/2006 19:21

Thanks duchesse - much appreciated - to be honest I feel much better physically now I am not pregnant, as had so many issues (although mentally I want to be pregnant). But have put loads of weight on as comfort eating and sitting around as on leave from work. I thought I would put all my weight on whilst I was preggie.... If I catch quite soon... I will be massive!!

gillian1973 · 10/12/2006 20:05

Thank Uki. Never thought I would say this but I hope I am not pregnant as we are off on holiday over Christmas and New Year and will be on malaria tablets. For some silly reason I thought it would all go back to normal and I could work out my most fertile days etc..

Still no sign of AF. Given that I was finishing my dissertation during ovulation maybe the stress threw everything out?

I hope it all calms down soon. We have decided to enjoy the holiday and try again in the new year.

duchesse · 10/12/2006 20:59

Rahrah- I understand the bit about feeling better now the pregnancy has ended. I don't if it's a feature of bleeding pregnancies. I am wondering if the fact that the placenta is malfunctioning (as was the case with my Vlad, and possibly with your little Bertie as well) means that our bodies keep producing more and more hormones to compensate for what the placenta should be providing but maybe isn't...and so we end up feeling iller and iller, which was certainly the case for me until Vlad died. Who knows?

Do you think you will take the full maternity leave? I do hope you get pregnant again soon if you're feeling up to it. Apparently we're supposed to be more fertile after a pregnancy, because our body is more ready to receive a new inhabitant. Let's hope so!

rahrah1 · 11/12/2006 00:09

I would like to get pregnant again as soon as possible.. it will be really scary and terrifying...but hopefully we will go full term or much nearer next time.

Seeing consultant tomorrow to get my results, he should be able to advise what happened with Bertie and whether I have a condition or not and possible treatment for next time. We know Bertie was a perfectly healthy baby except for his prematurity, so it was totally down to my pregnancy.

Because we had issues conceiving last time, it would be good to use any 'higher' fertile times. But would never want to risk what happened last time with Bertie... as its not fair on another child. (due to the risk of disability for such a prem baby if they survive).

I am only going to stay on maternity leave for a couple of months and then I am going on 3 months leave, as I am actually being made redundant from my work. - I know before you say it 'unlucky' springs to mind!

Uki · 11/12/2006 02:52

MORNING ALL

It's the afternoon here though.

WELCOME rahrah, I hope you stay is short and best of luck. I put my dh on mens multivitamins as they have zinc and folate good for sperm.

I had some fantastic news this morning.
A BFP x2 Did two tests

Anyway I am happy for me, but I know it is not always easy to hear from someone else when you are TTC or not even at that point yet.

I am going to stay here and wait for you all though. I hope my luck rubbs off, rubbing the screen now!!!! Off to go find my asprin now

duchesse · 11/12/2006 08:26

Uki, that is marvellous news! Fanbloomingtastic! Well done!

duchesse · 11/12/2006 08:28

Rahrah, I hope you get the answers you need from your consultant. Have they taken samples to test for bacterial infection etc...? I hope the consultant has some idea what could have caused Bertie's placenta issues.

duchesse · 11/12/2006 08:33

Oh, and- do you want to be redundant? If not, it strikes me that you could threaten them with the Equal Opportunites legislation that stipulates I think that you cannot make someone redundant/ sack them because of pregnancy. I thought that most companies were rather nervous of making anyone redundant during pregnancy or maternity leave in case they were thought to be doing it on those grounds.

At the very least you ought to be able to squeeze a larger/ better package out of them, assuming that you have been there long enough. Here's hoping you get pregnant again quickly so that they end up having to fork out for the second lot of maternity pay and leave (as long as they are not a small sweet company, in which it may be just unfortunate economic necessity)

oinker · 11/12/2006 08:58

UKI..........

BRILLIANT

what a great crimbo present....

FANTASTIC

oinker · 11/12/2006 08:59

just an idea.........

hang the test in your tree see if anyone notices.

oinker · 11/12/2006 09:01

Got my welcome pack from the hospital..

Forget anaesthetic.... they are not doing that. They will just be numbing my lower half and I will be awake. So panic over....

Uki · 11/12/2006 09:20

Thanks Oinker and duchesse

Oinker your hilarious love the idea of hanging tests in christmas tree, they arn't very noticiable as they are the cheaps as chips thin medical strip ones. But I'll do it anyway, good laugh.
Yes feel very lucky to have christmas BFP, just need to hang on to it. This will be my fifth pregnancy, but only one ds very weird

rahrah1 · 11/12/2006 09:59

duchesse - My consultant has suggested issues with my blood, like a clotting disorder. He mentioned aspirin in my next pregnancy, but he said he needed to complete tests.

In regards to my redundancy, my entire department has gone and has been going for some time (First redundancy was last June. So have been aware of it for some time. The redundancy package is quite good, as work for a big 'bank'. I was really happy about leaving whilst I was pregnant as it meant I could have loads more time off with the baby. It is now a bit daunting not having a job or the baby, as will find it hard getting motivated for interviews (and what if I get pregnant again quickly and am ill again) - but you can not plan for ifs and buts.... I have 3 months paid leave left with my work - as part of the redundancy package... so that will give me some time to work on things.

The biggest thing with me with TTC is to relax...I get easily stressed.. which does not help with the baby making process.

Anyway I have the consultants today.. so will update after appointment, as hopefully will be in a position medically to TTC again. Wish me luck!!

EdieMcredie · 11/12/2006 10:41

Well done Uki!! Congratualtions

Firststar- I'm sure Uki will be along soon, but tiny doses of aspirin and/ or warfarin are sometimes prescribed to pregnant women with certain clotting disorders leading to repeat miscarriage and still birth (due to clotting in the umbilicus and placenta of the foetus). It can make all the difference between carrying to term or near enough, and never having a live birth. Thank goodness they (medical researchers) have realised that it is fairly easily remedied...

duchesse · 11/12/2006 13:23

Rahrah1- I worked for a very large merchant bank for a year. May I suggest that being away from that environment might do wonders for your stress levels... ;)

oinker · 11/12/2006 13:37

Firstar.....

It's quite common for women to take aspirin. I have always had too along with two jabs of heparin to the abdomen on a daily basis. Along with all my other ailments my blood is too thick and prone to clotting...
The apirin works too. My freind had 4 m/c then she was prescribed aspirin she now has a boy of 2 and girl of 6 mths.
