For old birds to support each other through the madness. New old birds are most welcome, join us in the chicken coop.

Hi ranchgirl, like stubborn said, the GP will probably ask if you've bend trying for more than a year, ask about your health and lifestyle and then may do blood tests to check your progesterone levels to tell if you're ovulating or not. Mine also took blood to test that my hormone levels were normal so you could ask to have these done. It was Lutenising Hormone, FSH and oestradoil. It's a common test for sub-fertility and may identify something treatable. After that you may get a referral to a consultant.

It's hard work all this fighting for answers while you're struggling emotionally. I would always burst out crying the GP as I felt so helpless and didn't know where to turn.

You have to be your own advocate and keep pushing. Everything takes so long and time is not on the old bird's side so it's good to go in with a list of actions for the GP and get them done! It makes you feel a little but more in control, they are generalists so in my experience GP's appreciate the nudge in the right direction.

You have us to help you through it all Smile!

Nice one Mr Ginge Wine.

Yes grim non-wanting-it sex is rather depressing. Thankfully the HORN is back - big time ( . ) ( . ). What a difference a week makes! Wink Feeling super fertile.

Tranquilitybaby · 06/11/2014 15:41

Ooh Dominican ginger not jealous at all - much!

KatieV130 · 06/11/2014 16:51

Hi ladies, am new to this whole thing, slightly disturbed that at 36 I am an old bird but accept it's the reality! Really excited to hear all the good news of you all that are on your way - congrats and fingers crossed for you all. We started trying for our first in September and had a BFP on the first month then a MC at 5.5 weeks so sad but we're moving on - obviously there's lots of ladies in a worse situation. Just waiting to get through this period then back on the horse ;-). I wasn't going to do the ovulation kits... are they worth it? Am tracking mucus etc on Fertility Friend app.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 06/11/2014 17:30

Glad to hear it Annie. Back on the horn myself, too. Without giving out tmi dtd around 6 last night and it was amazing.
Hi Katie. Welcome aboard. Sorry for your loss. Wishing you well in your ttc journey. Have fun when you get back on the horse. I'm getting on the horse again tomorrow. Think I'm past my fertile window but it doesn't hurt to practice.
Ovulation kits I ordered a load of ebay. They're okay but I stopped using them for fear of them making me too obsessed and then only having sex for baby making purposes.
Waves to everyone else.

KatieV130 · 06/11/2014 20:59

Thank you ghost, I thought that might be the case, reckon I'd get a bit obsessed. Oh well, time to saddle up ;). Good luck and to Annie! Xx

AnnieHoo · 06/11/2014 21:56

Welcome katieSmile!

I use the lot! Fertility Friend app, temping, internet cheapie ovulation sticks and CBFM. I don't trust the monitor tbh. I used to buy the Clear blue digi sticks and liked seeing the smiley faces. But they're all so expensive!

The cheapies are good. That and temping and checking cervical mucus. But basically you just need to do it a lot! I'm not much help am I??

AnnieHoo · 06/11/2014 22:08

ghost good to hear you're still at it!!

I had a quickie up the stairs after fish n chips. Hee hee!

Positive OPK tonight. Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 06/11/2014 22:21

Ha ha. Hope you had fun and enjoyed your fish and chips.

Stupidhead · 07/11/2014 11:09

Hello ladies! I'm an oldie Confused
Basically I had coil out in April and we decided to give it until Christmas - yeah, like that was going to happen. I was using opks and Ovia app, tried soy iso and kind of gave up quietly. AF was due today and there's no sign. I'm a bit scared and a bit excited and don't want to be judged (I'm 46) I haven't told anyone. I need to buy a test don't i?!

KatieV130 · 07/11/2014 16:13

Hi Stupidhead, do a test. It'll stop you going crazy and at least you'll know. Good luck!!

Stupidhead · 07/11/2014 16:39

Thanks Katie! In my heart of hearts I know she's probably on her dreaded way but still no sign. I'm also feeling a bit queasy but think that's psychosomatic Confused

I'll wait until Monday!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 07/11/2014 23:26

Hi Stupid. Nice to welcome you. Good luck. Yes take the test.
And there's no judgement on here. We all know what it's like to be broody.
Age is no boundary. Plus 46 isn't old now.

Stupidhead · 08/11/2014 07:41

Thanks Grin
Still no sign. DP thinks he has super sperm now, he's 41 so a spring chicken. I went through a phase of opks and pregnancy strips and got disheartened so it's kind of a nice situation of being in 'not knowing' rather than a bfn.

AnnieHoo · 10/11/2014 09:11

Hi Stupid (hee hee, feel a bit cheeky calling you that)

Good for you holding out, I think I'll try that this month instead of going loopy testing. Fingers crossed AF keeps away.

AnnieHoo · 10/11/2014 09:18

It's very quiet on here. Hello...... ((hello)) .... (((hello))).... Is there anybody out theeeeeeerrrrrreeee....?

What's happened to all the ttc old chicks? Mass exodus! Smile

I think there's still quite a few of us in the coop though...

Ranchgirl, Katie, Stupid and Ghost Tappycat BobsyBoo Melinda puppydogs LeeAison Trumadison dropdeadfred and Patch77

good luck to all the ttc-ers and tww-ers xxx
missing you - old bird grads!! CakeBrew

AnnieHoo · 10/11/2014 09:21

and mummytogoldie sorry I missed you - and anyone else off if I did- it's so hard reading all the names and remembering them before you type them. Katewright not Katie.

Stupidhead · 10/11/2014 09:56

Morning! AF came yesterday, 2 days late which never happens. I'm ok, not upset which I thought I might be. DP spent the whole weekend being DPx100 - think of a little kid full of skittles! Not because of this its just how he gets sometimes, think he's a bit adhd, anyway, he said, 'are you sure you could cope with a mini me??!' And I was beginning to wonder! Anyway, that's me back to trying to not try again! Good luck this month lovelies xxx

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 10/11/2014 12:03

Hi Annie.
I'm still here. (waves)
Aww No stupid can't believe the witch turned up.!

KatieV130 · 10/11/2014 15:55

That's a shame Stupidhead, seems like sometimes it is out to trick you :-(. Good that you're ok about it though.
Hope everyone else is doing ok on this dark Monday. xx

KatieV130 · 10/11/2014 16:00

Saw some of my best uni friends on Saturday and told them about the MC, they are all mothers and three had their babies with them. I really didn't expect it to be hard but it was actually. My heart was racing telling them but they were lovely :-) One of them had a MC at 7 weeks and then had two children. She said just do it every couple of days from days 5-15, don't ignore the early days as she conceived on day 4 which I didn't know. Thought it was worth knowing.

AnnieHoo · 10/11/2014 16:38

Sorry the witch got you Stupid. It's a bummer but the "trying not to try" method has got many an old chick up the duff so keep going with that and see what happens Wink.

Hi ghost ((waves back))

Katie hope you're feeling better now, sorry to hear you were upset with your friends on Saturday, it's good to tell them though, I'm a get it all out type and by speaking about it you find out that so many other people have had a mc too. I needed to speak about it because it was so shocking, it makes you feel a bit stronger when you find out that there are people you know that it's happened to and they went on to have babies.

I think your friend has given good advice to start early and then you need to adjust it to your own cycle, whether it's short or long.

Everyone's got a theory.. I'm guilty of waiting until at least day 9 to start dtd and then carry on until a couple of days after ovulation... I think I've been starting too late. This month we started did day 11 and then days 12, 14, 16, 17, 19, 21. I got a positive OPK on day 17 so kept going until today... might keep going longer but can't be arsed!!

I got pregnant in March and we only dtd on days 7, 12 and 13 with a positive OPK on day 13. I'm convinced it was the day 12 shag that did it. No idea why!
