Hello,

Was just wondering whether anybody has had a similar experience?

When trying for first child got pregnant the first month, however that ended in MC. Luckily I got pregnant again with DD after first month of trying again.

DD is now three, we would have started TTC sooner but I went back I Uni and I'm due to finish in November.

We have been trying for 5 months and no luck, worried that I've left it too late as I'm now 37.

Sad

Ds is 5 and we've been trying 20 months for dc2.
We've also had two failed ivf cycles.
I had a feeling we would have problems and we went for tests after only a couple of months. They showed that dh has basically no viable sperm. We conceived our ds the very first month of trying so to go from that to this is insane.

Trying to decide where to go from here.

Congrats OneLittleToddleTerror it is nice to hear a good news story too.

Sorry to hear you're struggling Sleeps, I hope there still some routes open to you xx

Tattyteddy, I could pretty much have written your post. And like BlinkAndMiss, I had very regular cycles until we started trying to conceive. Grrrr! Now, they have changed, and my self-diagnosis based on constant googling some basic research is low progesterone, possibly caused by not ovulating. Just had the day 1 blood test, going for the 21 day in a couple of weeks. So joining the thread to swap some practical tips and vent.

tattyteddy · 09/08/2014 13:31

Welcome toast. Feel free to vent here! It's good your getting some tests done, hopefully they will help xx

Hi everybody, I've been lurking- can I join in?

I conceived DS freakishly and by accident at the age of 35, during a brief fling, so was a single mum for a couple of years. Then I met DP at the age of 38- after a couple of months I got PG- even though we'd been using condoms, with no obvious slip ups. As it was so very early on in the relationship I decided to have a termination. A year down the line, and we made the decision to start TTC.......and nothing. For eight months so far. I'm now 40. Life's a bitch, huh?

We're currently undergoing tests- DP's came back normal, so did my bloods, with the exception of a slightly low progesterone, so I've had the test repeated and am waiting on the results. Next stop an ultrasound hopefully, and then.....God knows.

tattyteddy · 11/08/2014 19:20

Hi Stubborn and welcome to the thread.

I know what you mean, isn't hindsight a wonderful thing! If I'd known that it would take so long to conceive I think I would have been trying for a lot longer and perhaps taken a break in uni?

Good look with the results and I hope a BFP for us all xx

Grrrr, AF has arrived so that's me out again! Onwards and upwards! Have bought the clearblue monitor thing so will see how successful that is! Good luck to everyone else who is on the 2ww! X

tattyteddy · 11/08/2014 19:52

Sorry to hear that Newbie. I'm now on 2ww but not too confident. xx

I hate the 2WW, especially the last week. I have my fingers crossed for you tattyteddy!

I'm just about to start the next cycle:

Positive things I am doing: the 21 day test, trying to get back into exercise (didn't really try after number 1 - too busy at first then convinced I would be pregnant soon so it didn't matter - ha! The arrogance of me!!), turning off the wireless on my phone so I can't google stupid stuff all the time, trying really hard to get enough sleep

Slightly less sensible things: taking loads of B vitamins as I read somewhere that they help balance hormones.

So far I haven't used any OPKs as I thought they seemed like the might create more stress, but interested to hear what others think.

Also v interested to know how people who used reflexology / acupuncture found their practitioner.

BobsyBoo · 12/08/2014 21:13

I've just started the 2ww toastbuster on DPO1 & I know I'm going to be on boob watch soon! That is that I'll be checking them for any signs of soreness or discomfort as that usually starts after ovulation as a sign of AF.

I've used the CB OPK's which I've found good but they can add to the stress, my OH has low sex drive so doesn't help me telling him when we have to DTD.

tattyteddy · 13/08/2014 09:19

Good luck to those on the 2ww! xx

BobsyBoo boobwatch underway! Good luck BB.

BobsyBoo · 13/08/2014 22:54

Ha ha I'm actually too scared to prod them! Good luck to you too!

tattyteddy · 14/08/2014 19:17

Ha ha, you've got me doing it now toast! X

OP posts:
BobsyBoo · 14/08/2014 21:45

Just had quick check no obvious signs apart from a little discomfort from prodding, but I'm only on DPO3 so if there was signs of soreness it would be AF related rather than pg. I need a hobby ha!

Turquoisetamborine · 14/08/2014 21:58

Hi everyone, I fell pregnant relatively easily with our son who is now six. I'm now three years into secondary infertility and undergoing my second round of IVF. It turns out my emergency c-section caused quite a lot of internal damage and my only tube is now blocked because of it.

I wasted 18 months on clomid which had no chance of working due to a blocked tube as I only have one. It was only then they thought to do a laparoscopy to check my tube.

What I'm saying is I was unlucky but don't wait around too long. Hopefully ivf will work this time and this will all be over for us soon.

Good luck!

toastbuster · 15/08/2014 20:00

Good luck to you too turquoisetamborine, and sorry to hear about everything you have had to go through to get to where you are. Let us know how it goes.

Any advice you could share on how to avoid some of the challenges you have had to face - do you think it would be worth paying privately to get a full check of everything potentially related to fertility?

tattyteddy · 17/08/2014 13:33

Hi Turquoisetamborine, sorry to hear that you are going through the samething too. When you had your EMCS was it anything out of the ordinary or was it just a straightforward one? I'm just asking i had an EMCS and I'm also worried about the scaring not helping. xx

OP posts:
Turquoisetamborine · 17/08/2014 16:38

Hi, I had a three day labour then a really rushed EMCS so they must have literally ripped him out so that's how I've got so much damage.

If I could go back I would have insisted on and if need be paid for a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy sooner because then you know what you are dealing with.

Ask for a copy of your medical notes too as I only found out my tube was so badly scarred it was causing a blockage through reading my notes. I was still happily trying naturally as no one had told me. It was in a letter from one consultant to another!

Hope you don't have to go through what I've had to go through. I'm glad I'm hopefully nearly at the end of my journey now either way.

tattyteddy · 19/08/2014 20:26

Thank you for the information Turquoise, your experiences sound traumatic. I was in about from Thursday but had not made enough progress by Saturday afternoon so had a emcs. I had a labour reflection meeting last year and the only thing they mentioned that my uterus had ballooned and they wouldn't let me try labour for so long next time. Xx

toastbuster · 19/08/2014 21:45

Thanks Turquoise - all horrible for you, but sure people will benefit from your info.

Tattyteddy and Bobsyboo - tell us about your boobs!!

BobsyBoo · 19/08/2014 23:23

Boobs are full on sore now! Started to feel the slight niggle on Sunday so a bit later in the cycle than normal but my body has fooled me before with that!

I've been a super symptom spotter as well, I think coming on mumsnet I've learned so much & therefore more symptoms to spot for! There's no out of the ordinary symptoms its just me clutching at straws!

tattyteddy · 20/08/2014 07:45

On day 27 and no AF yet but feel likes it on it's way. Boobs feel a little more tender than normal but not too different. I've also been fooled by symptoms before so not counting my chickens.

DH went for an appointment with GP on Monday and he's booked for some blood tests, hopefully they'll be fine. Good luck for those on the 2ww xx

OP posts:
BobsyBoo · 20/08/2014 07:54

My boobs have stopped hurting so much, so I don't know what's going on there, but must mean AF & not PG for the 19th month of trying! Starting to wonder if its time to give up!

babybythesea · 20/08/2014 08:20

Yes. Although we are now out the other side.
With DD1 we managed just one cycle. Went from "Shall we think about a baby? Ok. It'll take a while, so let's stop being careful and see what happens" to "Looks like we're having a baby..." in three weeks.
We wanted about a two year gap so we started trying again a few months after DD turned one - we didn't try before we were ready for no2, bearing in mind how quickly it all happened first time.
We do now have DD2, but the gap is 4.5 years. I had reached a point where I'd seen my GP and been told there was little they would do because we had one, and priority went to people with none. I had started to accept one was it, and to stop counting cycles and timings so religiously. I worked hard to see DD1 as my complete family, not one half of a sibling pair where the other half was missing. Just as I got my head round it, I fell pregnant.

It was a horrible couple of years. I wish you luck if you are in that boat.
