Ginger, glad you're enjoying thread from TTC. Are you still DTD but without intent? Your life sounds very busy / interesting. :-)

HungryHorace · 16/05/2014 16:20

Thread? The break!

mrsm22 · 16/05/2014 22:51

Hi Ginger - it was really nice reading your post tonight, you sound so much more positive and happy. I think you're taking the right approach to TTC and the whole situation. It can become really consuming and it shouldn't do because like you say, you have an amazing little DD to look after and they are so interesting and fun at that age so just enjoy it. Enjoy your little daughter and also time doing all those things you've mentioned like going away and girlie weekends etc. I'll never get to do any of that now, not for a long time anyway and you are young so there is no rush. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what the gap is between your children either. Everyone has an ideal but no one can guarantee or make sure they get it. Anyway, I will have two and a glad years between my two boys and can you imagine the nightmares I'm going to have when I have my new baby in the cot next to our bed and most likely my DS in our bed next to me. It's going to be exhausting and probably not something to envy. Your time will come for your second baby but perhaps that time isn't just right now, even though I'm sure it's not too far in the future. Please keep posting and following and don't leave us as you are one of the team on here and it wouldn't be the same without you. It sounds like you're going to be very busy and having lots of fun. It sounds good that you might go back and study something else, do you have any ideas? I studied English literature at uni and loved it but if I could go back I think I would have liked to train to be a vet (if clever enough) or study psychology and become a psychiatrist.
How's everyone else doing? I was feeling pretty deflated after the home birth visit yesterday that I rang the delivery suite today at the hospital and spoke to a really pleasant midwife and I said that whilst I wasn't making an actual complaint, I wasn't happy with the midwife it saw and she said I didn't have to have her come out to do my home birth if I didn't want and that they had received requests like this before about the particular midwife! I couldn't believe it, but I was able to give my name and have chosen not to have her which I'm thrilled about. I also managed to ask questions over the phone that I wasn't able to ask yesterday. So I feel much better about it. I need to get hold of a plastic fitted bed sheet. Does anyone know where I can get one?
Other than thinking about labour, I have been thinking a lot about my sister and wish we could patch things up but I just don't know how. My DH thinks she will do something when u have the baby to get in touch so maybe it will happen then if she decides to contact or come round.
Hungry - good luck unpacking the rest of your things and enjoy the birthday party.

HungryHorace · 17/05/2014 00:43

I'd try eBay for a sheet...you can get anything there! :-)

And that's great re banning that midwife. Though if she's on call I'm not sure how you'll avoid her. Maybe get nice biscuits in after all!

morerummorefun · 17/05/2014 02:40

mrs I got a rubber sheet for dd on amazon was about £5 for a single bed so id give them a try. I'm currently on an ebay ban as my dh thinks im getting obsessed Hmm

SwedeAway · 17/05/2014 09:53

Hi all, sitting in taxi on my way back from the airport. Have been on a business trip to Botswana. Very tiring indeed. My feet are super swollen from heat and flight. Looking forward to coming home. Business travel in pregnancy, def not recommended.

mrsm22 · 17/05/2014 11:11

Hi Morerum - I will check amazon and ebay.
Hungry - I definitely won't get the miserable midwife. I asked that question about if she was the only one on call and they said there are 15 midwives who are the home birth team and they send two but if she was on that someone would swap with her, doesn't necessarily have to be a home birth midwife, just a senior midwife. All areas covered !
The weather is beautiful here today. I would love to take DS to the seaside but DH is working tonight. What's everyone up to this weekend?

Kt1991 · 17/05/2014 12:30

Hey everyone, back from our hols, was nice to get away, but still didn't fully relax with making food, tidying up e.t.c. So glad I've got next week off, DS will be at nursery few days so me and DH don't have to do an awful lot then! Hows everyone doing? Sorry your home birth talk didn't go as well mrs that midwife sounds horrible! I never understand either how people like that do that for a job! You need someone who is gonna be there to care for you and make you feel relaxed, hope she isn't your one on the day! Glad you called up and mentioned it though.
ginger really good to read your feeling better about everything, sounds like you have lots of fun things coming up so will be nice for you to have a chill! And lucky you will still be able to have a nice cold alcoholic drink in a pub garden somewhere!
hungry hope the move is going well, can't believe your DD is nearly 1 too! I think her birthday is the day after my first Wedding Anniversary :)
swede you sound like your coping really well, I bet your family and friends are looking forward to having you living back in Sweden.
I'm a little concerned, cause last few days have had bit of cramps on my right side quite low down, baby has been kicking lots still, but not sure if its something I should mention to the MW? I also still have quite bad pain in my left leg every now and again too. In my last pregnancy, I didn't really have to contact my MW much, but where this is a different one, and I'm not due to see her till mid June is it worth me texting her next week?
It's really nice here too mrs, is your DH working tomorrow? It's meant to be nice for a few days I think :)
I don't have hardly any Summer stuff that fits me though :( Swear my bum has got even huger too so feeling quite self conscious atm :( It's DH's bday too so were off to Nandos tonight. My DM has DS for the night which will be nice, as he's been quite hard work this week! Were starting to do a behaviour chart, as we've had to tell him off quite a lot recently :S Were concerned that he might actually have something wrong with him though, like mild aspergers/autism, or ADHD. My SIL is 16, but she has autism, so looking out for any signs to see if he does or not, then going to look into taking him to the Dr's, but unsure if they will do much as he is only 3?
Sorry for long essay! Just know that Mumsnet is the best place for advise!

mrsm22 · 18/05/2014 08:34

Hi Kt - Glad you had a good holiday. It must be nice having another week off. I hope your DH has a good birthday too. I don't think the cramping will be anything to worry about. I've had the odd ache and pain earlier on in this pregnancy and have worried a bit but usually things have passed. The pain in the leg I think is quite common, I've read about that. If you want your mind putting at rest I would ring your midwife though as it's so hard to reassure yourself or know anything for certain. I had a really bad headache yesterday and ended up having it all night, so bad that I've not slept. I was still awake at 3.30am and DS got me up at 7.45am so I feel exhausted today and still have the headache this morning, although not quite as bad as it was through the night. I'm a bit worried about that too but think it's either tiredness or lack of sleep. I've got absolutely huge Kt and my bum feels really big too, I'm worried about how big I will be after the birth as I'm normally only small but everyone who sees me thinks my bump has got huge. Can't help but panic in case it's a huge baby! I'm in the same situation re clothes, because it's got so warm and nice I can't wear my normal summer clothes as nothing fits and because of when I had my DS I wasn't that pregnant in summer time last time so I'm struggling to find things to wear but I don't really want to spend a lot on maternity clothes when I could have baby in 3 weeks! Have you bought much in the way of clothes? I'm sleeping in a t shirt of my DH on a night. I'm living in maternity leggings and fortunately have two summer maternity vests and one nice maternity dress. Need to get DH to shave my legs though as I can't see at all passed the bump. I will actually be glad now to have baby and this pregnancy thing be over now, it's so tiring and uncomfortable at the end. Is your DH just turned 3? Would they not have picked anything up like that at his two year review ? You could always give your health visitor a ring if you're concerned and she will probably come and see you. Our health visitor came to see us last week, the same one who saw DS all way through. His speech is a bit slower than others of 2, it's definitely improving but he only has about 20 words and the rest of the time he still talks in his baby language so the health visitor is going to keep an eye on that with us as she will be seeing us again with the next baby and he might end up needing a bit of help from speech therapy. Hoping it doesn't come to that but it may do. My DH thinks he will just start talking properly soon as he understands absolutely everything you say to him or ask him. He just struggles with saying a lot of the words. But I would give your health visitor a call instead of the doctor as I think that's what they're there for and they are usually pretty good. Mine has been. She may come out and see you and your DS and just observe like she did with us. We've hit the terribly two's a DS has the odd tantrum.
We took my DS round to my mum and dads yesterday by the way and we stayed. My sister went to the seaside with 3 of her kids but one didn't want to go so her eldest little girl (10) stayed at my mums and she played with my DS all afternoon. He loved seeing her.

morerummorefun · 18/05/2014 08:54

37 weeks today! officially full term - time to get a shimmy on bubba im done in lol!
kt glad you had a nice holiday Smile
ginger im so happy for you you seem to be a much better place now x
mrs did you gt a rubber sheet? x

CallingAllEngels · 18/05/2014 09:26

God luck ladies - home straight now!

8w today and have scan tomorrow night. Must get all my paperwork done today and go for blood test tomorrow morning.

Feeling good, helped by the fact ds has slept in his own bed for 9 consecutive nights. Was nearly 8am when he wandered in this morning!

mrsm22 · 18/05/2014 12:30

Hi Morerum - Woo hoo 37 weeks today! Yes you're full term now and could have baby any day now. I'm 37 weeks on Friday so just a little behind you. Our babies should have close birthdays. I haven't got a sheet yet, I'm going to get one sorted this week. On a separate note , I really want to sort things out with my big sis but am not sure after how nasty she has been and her partner isn't a very nice guy but I do miss her and wanted to try resolve things before I have my baby. Can I have your opinion Morerum because you know things that have happened? Do you think I should try sending her a long text message or a letter or would you leave it be and see if she does anything maybe when I've had my baby boy?
Also Morerum - if you are offered a sweep will you have one?I had one last time but didn't like it so I'm not sure. Also I've heard it can cause bleeding. Was interested in what your feelings were on that.
Hi Calling - good luck for your scan tomorrow! And well done with your DS and the sleeping. What's your trick? I'm not making any progress at all with my DS. This next baby will be going in his own room much sooner.

mrsm22 · 18/05/2014 13:53

Oh just have a random question for anyone but is it safe to eat mayonnaise? I'm talking about the jar stuff from the supermarket like Heinz or Hellmans. I've always thought you can't eat it because of raw egg but I'm not sure if supermarket mayo is made from raw egg. Has or is anyone else eating it? I keep fancying a jacket potato with tuna mayo but have avoided it so far. I'm also not sure you're meant to eat tuna?

morerummorefun · 18/05/2014 14:17

mrs hellmans mayo is fine it just homemade stuff as it uses raw eggs.
I will get a sweep if offered but here they don't offer till 40+5 so im hoping I dont need one!
now ur sister, I can totally sympathise with you wanting to have her in your life my sis and I are inseparable id hate not to have her. what bothers me about ur situation is your are heavily pregnant and yet ur the one who will end up doing all the running! it would be a great stress off your kind if you could resolve your differences. perhaps start with a txt to break the ice then meet on neutral ground for a coffee just the 2 of you if thats possible? I hope it works out and you don't get hurt again Thanks xx

mrsm22 · 18/05/2014 14:58

Thanks Morerum - totally agree with you re my sister. U think it's the same here re the sweep. I'm also hoping I don't go over. I feel so big, do you? Have you/are you eating mayo during this pregnancy and have you had tuna at all?

CallingAllEngels · 18/05/2014 18:40

mrs we have been struggling for 6 months. This time we took the nasty approach - no softly back to bed and soothing to sleep, but "mama is cross, ds is naughty" -the same way we would be during the day. He really doesn't like being in trouble though he does it enough and (touch wood) it finally seems to have worked.

HungryHorace · 18/05/2014 20:10

Good luck tomorrow, Engels. :-)

Mrs, you can eat up to 4 tins of tuna a week, as well as Hellmans mayo. I've been eating plenty of both!

Kt1991 · 18/05/2014 22:39

Can't believe your 37 weeks already more! Are you all prepared? And mrs your not far behind either!
In regards to DS he turned 3 in Feb, but he was a little behind at his 2 year review for speech, but then literally couple of weeks later he wouldn't stop talking! And he is very clever, sometimes it's hard to believe he is only 3! We haven't really had any contact with a health visitor since so I'm guessing I can just call the office main number and see what they say? We've never had the same one either?
I'm off shopping tomoz mrs ill let you know if I find any good maternity buys!! I've been feeling a little down when people make comments about how big I am, I actually find it quite hurtful that quite a few people have said oh wow our really getting fat now aren't you! To me I find that rude, DH thinks I'm being silly and should take it as a compliment that people think bump is getting bigger. Don't get men sometimes!
Also had a bit of a worry today as baby hadn't really moved much since yesterday and I was still getting the pains on my right side so went In for a check today, all is fine though so I'm glad, really started to panic this morning, I know I'm only 23 weeks and that they don't normally pick up more kicks and patterns until about 26/27 weeks, but I already know when he does and it's always around the same time. Hoping I don't get anymore scares like it.

Everyone get to enjoy the sun again today?

Good luck for your scan tomorrow engels :)

mrsm22 · 18/05/2014 23:32

Hi Hungry - Have you finished your unpacking yet? How was the first birthday you went to? I'm really confused about the whole mayo thing as I thought all mayo had raw egg in it. I didn't think any mayo was cooked. Am I really thick?
Hi Kt - I'm glad everything is ok and you got checked out. There has been days where I haven't felt my baby move as much or for a while and I've panicked and nearly gone to hospital. It is all so worrying. I can't believe you're 23 weeks , you're over half way now. I keep getting it every day now too about how big I am. My mum and dad keep saying I'm enormous but my bump does feel that way. I hope you get some nice clothes when you go shopping Kt, let me know how you get on. I would still ring the main number for your DS and you'll get to speak to a health visitor, even if it's not the dam done you saw previously. Or you could go to the doctor, it's just that I think your doctor would want you to see a health visitor anyway. Are you sure up it DS isn't just being a handful ? I knowing has started playing up if he doesn't get his own way etc and I've heard that 3 is worse than two!
Hi Morerum - I took the plunge and text my sister. I haven't heard anything back from her so I now feel a bit silly for trying. She has hurt me massively right back to my DS 's birthday in December and yet it's still me making all the effort to try resolve things. I doubt she will get in touch now as she's had all day . You're very lucky you and your sister are close. I wish I had that.

HungryHorace · 19/05/2014 07:35

Kt, I'm huge too, but measuring just right, so I'm not sure how that works! But it is rude when people comment like that, I agree.

I went in for my second lot of movement monitoring on Friday night, so I understand your worry. I was told they'd scan me if it happened again. Baby has been a total loon since...think there's been a weight gain!

Mrs, if it was raw egg in Hellmans it wouldn't last so long. It has eggs, but they're pasteurised, so is fine to eat.

I think you're making huge efforts with your sister. Can't say I would, so you're better than me. I hope you get the result you want. :-)

BetterNotBitter · 19/05/2014 11:40

Hi everyone! What a lovely few days of weather we've been having!!

hungry what time is dds dieticians appt? You're doing better than we did with teeth she was almost one before the first one came, even though she'd had teething problems from 4 months!! Aww bless you having to go in for monitoring, its so awful when its only you that can make the call as to whether everythings ok.

Sounds like you're in a brilliant mindset ginger all credit to you! One of my friends is into month 11 and she's thoroughly demoralised :(

Great news that you can specifically request not to have the nasty midwife mrs!! Nice that you got to spend the day at your parents too.Well, at least you can rest knowing you made the effort with your sister and it was her choice to not meet you in the middle, which is still a sad situation but as least you're not thinking 'should I try?' you have now and she hasn't reciprocated so you've done your bit. Maybe try to put it out of your mind for now, you've done all you can and you need to focus on staying healthy and happy through your last few weeks.

kt I used to work with autistic children, they can assess at 3 if they think there might be an issue. It would probably be a gp thing I think, they need to be the ones to make the referral. I wouldn't have thought it will be too severe even if it is ASD, you'd probably have had people picking up on things from around 18 months if it was going to be terrible. If it is mild ASD I wouldn't worry too much, its very easily manageable, its just a case of educating yourselves. I'm in a similar position re weight, I put next to nothing on last time, I was just all bump & was back in my size 8 jeans at 5 days post birth! That will NOT be the case this time. I've had to buy quite alot of mat clothes as I was heavily pregnant through winter last time so only had warm stuff. Just went out last week and got a haul of 3/4's, vests, a few maxi dresses and shorts! New look had a good maternity sale online last week, not sure if its still on!

yeahhhhhh morerum full term full term!!! I'm enjoying this stage, not so much looking forwards to 37 weeks on, i can remember the "for gods sake, just be born" feeling too well!!!

Good luck for the scan calling! Let us know how you get on!

DD has always been a chatterbox, but we've reached a whole new level of conversation these last few weeks. she comments on EVERYTHING (in a doctors waiting room "whos dat coughing, my hope them got them hand on their mouth, otherwise them be disgusting!" VERY LOUDLY!) and questions everything too. She's very curious about breastfeeding at the moment and thinks boobies are hilarious......!

Karmanna13 · 19/05/2014 12:39

Hello lovely ladies, hope you're all well!

Had a really busy weekend with my grandparents visiting - my granddad turned 86 so we had a bit of a party for him. Just enjoying the sunshine in the garden at the moment (working from home has its benefits!) :)

Mrsm, I am stunned that they have not had words with the mw who came to see you, especially if other people have made comments about her before. Why is she even in this job! Grr! My mw was really stern too and kept telling me how I was doing everything wrong and barking at me. Luckily the birth was so quick that I only had to put up with her for half an hour but I still felt like I missed out on the experience I would have liked, with one of those lovely mw's you get on One Born Every Minute, who strokes your hair and offers you a cuppa! Maybe they don't exist in real life... Not long now for you and morerum, bet you're both excited!!

Kt, glad you enjoyed your break.

Calling, good luck with the scan!

Better, my DS (two) is also obsessed with boobs at the moment. I wish he liked them as much when I tried and failed to breastfeed him (later found out he was tongue-tied and that's why he couldn't bf - he used to scream the house down as soon as he caught a glimpse of them!) Now he will pull my top down and shout "Boobies!" but to my horror he's started doing it to the teachers at nursery too! Blush No idea where he's got it from - I certainly didn't teach him!

HungryHorace · 19/05/2014 14:40

DD's appt was at 9 this morning. All good; dietician happy with how the lactose tests are going and we've got a sheet about how to introduce cows' milk, which is helpful.

She's looked like a clown the last few days, so hoping more teeth will be appearing soon.

Saw my MW today. Everything looks fine, which is good. Told her the sorry tale of DD's birth and she agreed that an ELCS is the way forwards. :-)

I really can't believe how close Mrs and morerum are to the end! And slightly jealous too, but not long now.

Your DD sounds funny, Better. If a touch embarrassing. :-)

How are you? How's your DH now too?

mrsm22 · 19/05/2014 17:45

Hi everyone, isn't the weather gorgeous?
Hi Better and Hungry -I only text my sister yesterday and when I spoke to my mum this morning she said she knew I had as my sister had told her and that she was very pleased but had not yet had time to respond as she has her mum inlaw staying with them until weds and my sister runs her own business. So I'm waiting to hear from her, although it does only take 30 seconds to send someone a text back so you'd think she would have made time. It's hard to leave things. You are right that I have to concentrate on the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy and new baby but I really want my sister to be part of that and my boys to know who their auntie is. I am still very hurt by it all though, but let's wait and see what she does and if she makes things better. She does have to meet me half way.
Hi Karmanna - yes you'd think that midwife would have got a bollocking. To be honest I don't think any of them in real life are anything like how they come across on One Born Every Minute.
I'm enormous, my bump has got so big. I was quickly back in my size 8 clothes after my DS but this time I'm not so sure. It's hard to tell. My DH says it's just all bump and that I'm not big anywhere else but you just never know how you're going to look after the birth and how long it takes to get rid of that baby pouch as I like to call it.
Hungry - Really pleased about your DD. Will you not have to go back now?

mrsm22 · 19/05/2014 20:11

Sorry didn't have time to finish my reply earlier as I was broken off by my DS.
Better - Your DD sounds very cute questioning everything. I too was heavily pregnant in winter time last time so have very little summery maternity clothes. Is it worth me buying anymore do you think, with only 3 weeks left (well 3 weeks on Friday)? It's just that for the first few weeks after the birth I imagine I will still be wearing maternity clothes until I get the weight off abs lose the baby pouch. I have never thought of New Look. Did they have some nice things Better? Is your DH back from his week away and is he all better?
