This is definitely a good goal for me. I want to lose 6kg (about one stone) by December, so half a stone by Sept will be very good. Come on everyone, we can do it!

Natty1806 · 04/08/2006 16:35

I notice the rest of them haven't joined us yet. Lets hope they do over the weekend.

hiya, would it be ok for me to join? every week i start my diet and fail miserably by tuesday
i weigh 10 stone 10 and would ideally like to get back to 9 stone 7. but would be happy with half a stone by september.
any tips?

coggy · 04/08/2006 17:28

I've come to join you!!!!!

Natty1806 · 04/08/2006 17:31

Well to be honest i have not been doing too great recently so not sure if my tips will help.

Excercise - i have just joined the gym

eat little and oftern i usually find having a snack mid morning and mid afternoon helps, i count calories.

OP posts:
timeaftertime · 04/08/2006 17:40

i have always tried in the past counting fat...maybe i should try calories...
i dont do excercise cos i walk at a fast pace for 7 1/2 hours 4 days a week.

Natty1806 · 04/08/2006 17:50

What do you do for job???

Try counting calories as well as fat.

OP posts:
wannaBe1974 · 04/08/2006 18:01

hiya all signing in!

timeaftertime my tips would be..

exercise regularly (at least 30 minutes a day), I exercise 5 times a week, I go on the cross trainer, the weights, and a little bit of rowing three times a week (we have all these pieces of kit in our garage so easily done, plus I swim twice a week at our local health club which I have just joined. I also walk everywhere as don't drive. diet - you have to do what you feel works for you, but what I would advise is, don't starve yourself. eat healthily, but try to eat more protein than carbohydrate - carbs will burn off quicker whereas your body has to work harder to burn off protein and therefore you're more likely to lose weight. don't try the atkins diet though it's not healthy.

Have lost another 2 lb this week - that's 5 lb now and I'm below the 10 stone mark - yayayayaya

coggy · 05/08/2006 10:20

Fabby wannaBe!!!!!

I reckon you are a postperson timefortea?
Any other guesses??!!!!

I find that Rosemary's rule works well re: fat vs calories. If you eat food with less than 5% fat then you won't need to count the fat as it'll sort itself out...then all you need to worry about is the calories.

We all also need to be careful not to go on any fad diets or have our calories too low as it can stop conception.

So sensible and healthy is the way to go girls!!!

coggy · 05/08/2006 14:39

Oh ...just read back on my earlier post!!

Sorry I got your name wrong Timeaftertime!!
Obviously got blinkin' food on the brain!!!

merrily · 05/08/2006 15:41

hello all... sorry to crash your thread! I am not TTC yet, but trying to lose my baby weight before TTC again next year. I just wanted to recommend Weight Watchers Online - I signed up about a month ago and it's really easy to follow. I weighed 12st11 on 1st July, and I'm already down to 12st3. I really like it because I'm not denied anything - it just helps me to keep track of the calories and eat in moderation! HTH

timeaftertime · 05/08/2006 17:06

i work at tescos as a personal shopper. which basically involves walking round the supermarket with a heavy trolly doing peoples online shopping. i only do it part time but its a good form of excercise

Natty1806 · 05/08/2006 17:09

Sounds like a good job and excellent way to fit exercise in.

OP posts:
coggy · 05/08/2006 19:31

Yeah - they reckon that you only need to walk 10,000 steps a day (and eat sensibly) to lose weight.
No need for heavy exercise - which is good news I guess when ttc.
I'm getting a pedometer hopefully next week so I can walk, walk, walk!!!!

Nicola63 · 06/08/2006 08:50

I joined gym last week and have vowed to go three times a week. Next week I am on holiday but it is on the Mediterranean and I will threfore do lots of swimming. Diet slipped a bit over weekend as I drank too much wine on Friday night!

Angsthase · 07/08/2006 10:02

Hi Girls,

I'm with you on the 7lb by Sept 15th. That would be really good. The weigh in this morning was not encouraging: 70.3Kg that's 0.3kg more than when I started!!!!

Have decided to give up alcohol for the next 3 months as DH is home "at the right time" during this period, so that should kick start my renewed diet regime too.

Exercise will be 30mins walking every day and running once it's cool enough.

Natty1806 · 07/08/2006 10:19

Sounds like a good plan of action - good luck.

I am also going to give up the boozy saturday nights for a while in a bid to help me get preg and to also lose a few pounds.

OP posts:
coggy · 07/08/2006 10:27

I've been on a strict (although I've oops a bit!!) two-week start plan which includes no alcohol.....quite hard but it fits in with my two-week wait so it's actually a really good thing to do probably most months!!

I find that it's alcohol that gets me every time!!! (weight wise that is!!)

Nicola63 · 07/08/2006 13:11

Weighing this morning, am another 1kg down from same time last week. The gym seems to be working! Sticking as close as I can to Weight Watchers points system.

Natty1806 · 07/08/2006 13:14

Well done

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 07/08/2006 13:32

Sorry ladies I should have joined you on Friday. I have not been good on the new diet this week, excuse is that I have not planned properly and am not couting properly - that will change (soon). Really admire you giving up the booze Angsthase, I find that the hardest thing though I don't think it would be a problem if I fell pg, I'd be able to abstain.

Nicola63 · 07/08/2006 13:38

Wish I could abstain from alcohol too! Had a prettty boozy weekend. A very close frined who lives in Wales and who I have not seen for 9 months came to visit over the weekend. Break out the wine....!
Back to being good now...

Angsthase · 07/08/2006 13:45

Seeing is believing as far as my abstention goes MMJ!!

Today is the first day, but I'm off to Germany for the weekend and it could get interesting as I haven't seen most of my friends for about a year, so watch this space...

coggy · 07/08/2006 14:18

Nicola - you've done brilliantly, especially with a boozy weekend!!!

MrsMc - I was just thinking of checking up on you!!!!

MrsApronstrings · 07/08/2006 14:25

if your dieting a day/weekend off is very good for you - it helps too kickstart the metabolism and makes your dieting more effective
