Hey there I'm a newbie, came off the pill in June but having started TTC just yet but will be in the next few months, just finishing an extension and need to be working to pay for that. So excited though and can't wait to be pregnant. I'm 31 and been married just over a year - everyone's asking me the baby question and I swear people think we're TTC when were not yet! Ha that's life. I'm just going to go with it to begin with without OPK or anything and see what happens for a few months. Good luck with BFP!! X

Hi Everyone!

Been reading on here for a little while but time to take the plunge and join in!

Just to warn you in advance I struggle with any sort of acronyms or metaphors - I read ROFL as Rolf - which leads me to think of Rolf Harris and I then start seeing kangaroos in my head (?) which throws me off what someone is saying completely! I'm also always mixing metaphors up too. Work thinks it's hilarious as I tend to let the rabbit out the bag or pull a cat out of a hat! So apologies in advance for any scatty posts.

Anyhoo, back to baby bump plans, I'm 33 and like you Eclaires had coil out in August - early August for me.

In second month of trying but have been 'properly' charting this month and found out that I ovulate on Day 20, in a 31 day cycle so first month was a non-starter as we had a break that week!

Just had a visit from AF (just looked that one up!) ... like you Pixieears was hopeful that it was implantation but cramps telling me otherwise :-(

Looking forwards to hearing everyone's stories, and having a place to let off steam - am sure we'll all be where we want to sometime soon.

Hiya, can I sneak in? I usually hang out in chat, but could do with some buds to bore to death chat with about baby stuff. I have 12 days left on my pill pack, I kind of agreed to go and get another 6 months worth from the docs to support DH in starting his new job (I.e. by not being pregnant and tired and hormonal!!) but now its come to it I really really don't want to stay on it any more.

My cycle was always unreliable when I've not been on Microgynon (between 14 and 40-odd days, with periods lasting up to a fortnight) so I'm thinking I'll need a bit of time to settle down. Hoping to start actively trying in the New Year.

Anyone else feel kind of sicky excited? Like going on a date with a new bloke? It's weird, never had that before, I think its because I've kind of made up my mind that this is it. Bored of waiting now!!!

Hi ladies
AF arrived this am, 3 days late, going to stop testing early, this is month 2 after mc in may, the 2 week wait is hard....

Tina, I got pregnant pretty much straight away after stopping pill with DD as ov can happen straight away, so it could def happen for u

sjd99, how are you charting? With a basal thermometer? Think I might start although clear blue ov kit said I didn't ov at all this month but can't Afford o keep buying those kits!!

Any tips on ov tracking ladies? don't know where to start, after this month I could be ov really irregularly..

Retrohippy - you sound exactly the same as me!! I too have another 3 months supply of rigevidon (was Microgynon but my doc said they stopped producing it?!) left but we decided we'd ttc at the end of the last packet! My AF has now stopped and according the the Ovufriend website which I'm using for charting my ov dates are between 6th-10th oct so ill most definitely be trying then! Will defo check with doc tomorrow though and use the opk's that week to be sure!! Wish me luck :) x

Hi girls,

I am prone to UTIs after unprotected sex wit DH so have tried to have sex only around ovulation time. We've been using condoms since coming off the pill two years ago after I started with migraines (despite being on the pill for 12 year)s.

I used the ovulation calendar on mumsnet to get the 4 days of when I roughly ovulated for the first 2 months of ttc with obviously no effect (My cycle varies between 26 and 28 days each month). Our first month of ttc we dtd that many times over 4 days I gave myself a UTI (urinary tract infection) so had to go on antibiotics!

This is our 3rd cycle of ttc so decided to go a bit more scientific and bought a pee on ovulation stick from Boots. Started using it at the start of the estimated four days and got a positive ovulation result towards the end of the four days (which is a lot later than I thought I ovulated). On the instructions it says when you get a positive result, you are more likely to conceive the following 48 hours. We dtd 3 times over that 48 hr window, AF/BFP? due next Saturday September 28th so we shall have to wait and see.............

Apologies for the following TMI! I've had diarrhoea every morning since ovulating (which is very unlike me) and I've started with insomnia, I woke up at 2am last night, couldn't get to sleep until 5am and had to eat a banana because I felt shaky. I've learnt not to read too much into symptoms as so much is psychosomatic when you're ttc and I am determined that I will not POAS until AF is late!

tina I'm using the pill as my countdown Grin

Part of me doesn't want to chart or anything as I know I'll be totally obsessive about it, but then with my irregular periods I'll need to as we don't really want to get pg till after Christmas so we'll be using protection for my most fertile times for a couple of months. If it happens it happens, but not the idea for various reasons. I'm actually quite intrigued to see what my cycle is like 'normally'.

I suppose that is the idea of dtd!

Monkeygirl I'm also interested in how to chart cheaply. I'm a total Excel geek so ill probably end up with spreadsheets and graphs of temps!! Do you just take your temps daily?

tinaw20 · 22/09/2013 20:14

I'm the same with my irregularity! Came off cilest 3 yrs ago after 10yrs and I varied from 25-35 day cycles! It eventually averaged out at around 32-34 days so I'm going with that for ttc!! Doubt it'll work this month but I'm giving it a go regardless!! I have become a bit obsessed with the charting and stuff tbh so you prob have the right idea in taking it easy for now then when the time is right :)

Skygirl - I have a similar problem though with me it's thrush, so I don't want to go too overboard and will try to stick to ov dates too! Fingers crossed for you!

Try ovufriend for charting, they do you a wee chart and asks for daily tests, you don't have to be über thorough as I'm not, I'm hoping it's an accurate-ish judge of ovulation dates!

That sounds good, can you get it as an App? iGeek

I need something that I can do quietly in the bathroom so DH doesn't think I'm totally obsessing even if I am.

Trip to boots for a thermometer needed!

tinaw20 · 22/09/2013 21:23

No I checked and there's no app so I have it saved as a bookmark in safari! My dh has no idea about the amount I obsess too! Ironic considering he was the one desperate for kids when we first got married and I wanted to wait!!

If you are looking for an easy app, I use one on my phone called fertility friend. You can chart with temps or opks etc on there and it tells you forecasted/actual ovulation & other things.

You can pay for the fancy version if you want to but I just use the free part of it and it's really easy to use.

I've found charting sooo useful - bought a £10 kit on amazon, plus a thermometer quite cheapish. So am taking temperature daily and noting it down. Am also doing OPK tests at appropriate time.

Due to the process of discovering late OV wasted a lot of the OV predictor tests - but already bought 30 more online for about £6.

I do obsess a lot little, but like knowing where things are.

@Barmy - thanks for the app tip - downloading that now!

Sjd99 how are you taking your temp? I have a thermometer somewhere in the house but have never actually used it so don't know how accurately as I've tried taking my temp under my arm before but it wasn't accurate at all!

Hi all the newbies, sorry there are so many of us I cant keep track Smile

Retro- you sound like me, I love Excel
I use Fertility Friend which is a really good app for TTC, I'd thoroughly recommend it. It has charts and all sorts.

For those of you who are really irregular, so am I. Sometimes I am 26 days, sometimes 36?! I think as long as you can pin point ov, you're on the right track.

I mentioned to Tina about using Evening Primrose tablets if you don't have a lot of CM to indicate ovulation, it makes your fanjo a very friendly place Hmm Grin

The doc's just given me a prescription for evening primrose to start taking now & just given a wee bit advice on when to try (nothing more than I got from you all tho Smile) I'm to go back in a year if nothing happens!

Good afternoon ladies, I'm fairly new to TTC and this is my first month on Mumsnet still, I think. I'm 23 and DP is 22 this is our first cycle. We're going to stay relaxed about it all for a few months to see if it happens and if nothing by January I'll get on with charting properly to see if I can help things along a bit. But since joining Mumsnet I can't help but fall into symptom spotting, luckily so far I've managed to tell myself it's easily explained by other things but it's getting harder aha. Currently in my 2ww but AF/BFP due on Saturday (28th) (:
