Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

1000 replies

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Morning All,
Sorry for not coming on yesterday, I felt wiped out with tiredness. I'm feeling just the same as I did with my pregnancy with DS, tired all the time and hungry!
Donna - you and me sound so similar ! I too already have a little belly and DH and my mum have both said ooh you could be having twins. I think you do get bigger quicker with your second. I'm seeing my midwife a week tomorrow, are you two days after me on the Friday 8th? I wonder if the midwife will let us hear the heartbeat at the first appointment or if that's too soon? There should be a detectable heartbeat from 7 weeks. I too am desperate for my scan, I've worked it out to be the first week in December. That should be our 12 weeks and first scan for both of us?!
ATruth - hello! I wondered where you had gone. That's wonderful news. I'm so glad your DH has come round to the idea. Xx
Lilli - hi and welcome. I wish i could help but have little experience of what you've explained. Could you maybe see a gynaecologist who could advise you on becoming pregnant etc? I don't know where you are located but I am in Leeds and know a wonderful gyno who I saw privately after having my DS. I guess you'd have to pay (I luckily get private medical through work, maybe you do too) but if you happened to be in Leeds or nearby I would be happy to recommend her to you.
Kato - hello and welcome to you.
Hungry - I've still not got round to making your cake. Just been so tired. Can't you make it and bring it round? Would be lovely if you were/ we all were nearer to share cake and things.
Windy - how many weeks do you think you are?

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 29/10/2013 09:15

Mrs, they can't hear the heartbeat until your 16 week appt, and even then they warn that they may not succeed, depending on baby's position. The heartbeat is only able to be seen on a scan.

I almost cried the first time I heard DD's heartbeat.

I don't remember being that tired. I do remember nausea and hunger though! All good signs though. :-)

mrsm22 · 29/10/2013 11:08

Hi Hungry - oh is that right? I must be getting confused. I read somewhere that the baby has a heartbeat at 7 weeks which must be what made me think it could be detected at a midwife appointment. I'll have to be patient then. I'm looking forward to my midwife appointment though as I haven't met her and want to know what she's like. We were between doctor's surgery's when I had DS so it will be a different midwife at my now doctor's surgery . I really hope she's good and nice. Hopefully I should get my 12 week scan at the beginning of December, I'm so impatient and wish it was sooner. Struggling with work some days as so tired. I wish I was still on first mat leave like you hungry. x

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 29/10/2013 11:23

Yes, you could see it on a scan just not hear it yet! Not long to wait though. :-)

We're trying a bit of sleep training for naps today. Bit traumatic!

I'm not sure early pregnancy with a small baby will be less tiring than working! We shall see though.

mrsm22 · 29/10/2013 11:30

Sleep training sounds interesting Hungry, how are you doing that? We are going to have to think seriously about getting DS back in his own bed and own room as soon as poss as I don't want him still with us when I have a big bump!

Hello and warm welcome to Adp!

donnas1984 · 29/10/2013 11:42

mrs. I'm a bad mummy! DD has a tv in her room and she gets a dvd on for 30 mins at bedtime (its on a timer) and luckily she sleeps right through!

HungryHorace · 29/10/2013 11:59

Oh, yes, sorry! Welcome to adp :-)

And we're just leaving her to self settle in her cot bed. Worked with her first nap after 5 mins' crying. This nap she was distraught and is now face down on my chest with her arms around my neck :-(

I'll try her again later. I think she may have some tooth pain.

If the DVD worked I'd do it too, Donna. DD's a touch young though.

Toothpastekissesno2 · 29/10/2013 13:01

We have used the controlled crying technique and it seems to work though I have a cut off point when I can't bear it. Ds is a good boy generally though at moment he is really playing up at meals time. He just won't eat unless it's toast!! Apparently he does with the nanny so it's obviously with his parents. Maybe we need to be tougher as I always end up caving. Need to find a book to advise me. Anyone know of any?
I think I might cave and do pg test tomorrow morning. Have rest of week off work and this waiting is killing me! No af and it will be two weeks post ov. That should be accurate either way shouldn't it?

mrsm22 · 29/10/2013 14:07

Hi Donna - that's not bad, I think that's a really good idea. My sister has 3 DC and she did that with all of hers (let them watch the twenties on DVD) before bed. I'll have to get my DS a tv for his bedroom. Thanks for the idea ! X I hope you're feeling well and looking forward to seeing the midwife next week. Fingers crossed we might have a scan the same week too!
Toothpaste - I'd defo poas tomorrow morning and let us all know! Good luck x
Hi Hungry - your DD sounds a lot like my DS, he has a morning nap still and for that I have to give him to a bottle and let him fall asleep on me and he sleeps with his arms round my neck. And at night he bear hugs me xx

HungryHorace · 29/10/2013 14:42

Toothpaste, I can cope with moderate crying, but not full on distraught screaming, can't breathe properly stuff. Which is what the second attempt was. :-( She's a cunning madam though as she's gone sleep on me while I was winding her this time!

As for POAS, implantation can take place up to 12DPO, so there should almost always be enough hcg in your system at 15DPO to get a result. How long is your luteal phase normally? I'm hopeful because of your spotting. :-)

DD is very tactile too. But then so are we. It's lovely, isn't it?

lucyjojo · 29/10/2013 18:26

Good luck with the sleep Hungry. It's so hard to know what to do for the best isn't it. I think I did a combination of comforting and crying it out, whatever I felt up to at the time! Probably sent very mixed signals, but luckily we've got a good sleeper now. She still protests when she goes to bed at night but she usually falls asleep after 5 minutes or so.
I am dying to POAS but I know it will be a waste of time at this stage, 2 ww is soo long though. Good luck to you toothpaste for tomorrow, hope you get your bfp.

Kt1991 · 29/10/2013 21:24

Evening ladies don't want to be a downer on you all, but AF arrived today whilst I was at work so had to stop myself from getting upset. Sad I was really hoping this was gonna be our month. As it would of been ideal for so many things next year. So I'm in bed feeling sorry for myself with a hot water bottle for my tummy cramps lol. DH is working away for upto three weeks from next week and near to xmas, so not gonna get to DTD much either! Hope your all well, and hello to more newbies! Hope the next week goes quick for you mrs. Will be nice for you to meet your midwife.

HungryHorace · 29/10/2013 22:55

Kt :-(

I'm sorry. AF's a bitch.

I'm thinking I'm out. When I got pg with DD I had no CM after OV, and loads when I wasn't pg. I've noticed a fair bit today, so it makes me think it's game over.

I'm still achey / crampy but god knows what that's about.

I wish I could try not to think about it.

Toothpastekissesno2 · 30/10/2013 07:58

Morning I'm really sorry kt that's hard and I can relate to the dh being away a lot which adds to the stress.
I've got some more good news for this thread though. I got a bfp this morning! Am shocked though I did have a few symptoms I was discounting them as I had some last month too. Very early days but I'm ecstatic. Now the waiting begins. And i don't want to tell anyone (but dh and u guys!) especially as don't want to steal limelight from my sis who has been through so much. I really hope there is atleast one more this month! Off to stare in to space in disbelief! X

HungryHorace · 30/10/2013 08:12

Wow! Congratulations Toothpaste :-) The luck continues.

It's awesome that you and your sister can be pregnant together! Such good news.

lucyjojo · 30/10/2013 09:44

Oh Kt I'm so sorry, it's so horrible getting AF. Sending lots of hugs and Cake your way. Hope you got yourself a nice big bar of chocolate too. I don't think this is going to be my month either. Hopefully it will happen for you over the next month or so when your DH is away and you least expect it to happen!
Toothpaste congratulations to you!! That is amazing news!! Its so nice that you and your sister can go through it together and have babies the same age!! How pg are you then do you think? What were your symptoms!? Not that I'm symptom spotting

HungryHorace · 30/10/2013 10:08

I need to know symptoms too...obsessed! Even though I'm not sure we've managed it.

Your turn next to POAS, Lucy!

Toothpastekissesno2 · 30/10/2013 11:22

I'm literally 1-2 weeks on the digi test so that's 4 weeks in midwives speak I think. I did online calculator and if all goes well I would be due beginning of July. Symptoms were cramps, very very small amount of spotting (much less than with ds), afternoon background nausea and tiredness, bad skin (though that could be nothing related!) and then last night bit in to tuna steak and it tasted horrible! So that weird thing like you need to eat but don't know what. And headache yesterday but that could be work! Prob biggest is sharp cramping which I think I had first time. I don't get bad af so it feels different. No boobs hurting though. In fact it sounds like lots of symptoms but they were all quite mild. It's still so early but I'm still amazed. Lucy u poas Friday?

Toothpastekissesno2 · 30/10/2013 11:27

And dreams! Wild dreams!

HungryHorace · 30/10/2013 11:43

Oh yes, I forgot the dreams! I had those last time. I don't sleep long enough to get to dream sleep now. :-/

When did your cramping start? I've had cramping on and off since OV.

It's all so exciting. :-) This thread is the luckiest ever! Bearing in mind the average time to conceive is 6 months I can't believe the success rate here!

mrsm22 · 30/10/2013 12:20

Hello everyone,
Toothpaste - wow massive congratulations to you! It was me last week and now you this week! That's wonderful amazing news! xxx it said 3-4 weeks when u did my test last week so I think or the doctor thinks 7 weeks, next week being week 7 but it's hard to be exact isn't it? Have you rang your doctors to get in with your midwife? Looks like you me and Donna could all be due not far apart! All the very best and it must be really nice to be pregnant at the same time as your sister. Oh I am having wild crazy dreams too and did last time.
Kt - I'm so sorry that you got AF! Please try not to be sad. It is so disappointing but it is still early days for any of us to fall pregnant. Try not to worry about your DH being away. You might not be able to DTD loads but it can sometimes be about just doing it at the right time so let's hope for that. Big hugs xxx

Thanks everyone. Feeling bit happier today. DS is very sweet when I get upset, we've calved a pumpkin this morning and now were having an indoor picnic Smile.

Congrats to toothpaste! That is so lovely that you and your sister are due near each other, will be really nice as the babies will be so close too! [smiles].

mrsm22 · 30/10/2013 15:12

Hi Kt - I hope you and Ds are enjoying your pumpkin xxx
