Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

1000 replies

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Glad you were able to get down to business Hungry Wink. Hi Mitsu, what a strange situation for you , hope you get a nice BFP very soon!
Mrs I agree with toothpaste, you wouldn't still be getting such strong bfps by now if the bleed had meant something, and you seem to be getting all the right symptoms!! and as you say if you had one with DS and he is fine, you'll be getting another cheeky monster!
Hi tinker welcome!
Hope you get some good news for your sister toothpaste, how lovely if you were both expecting at the same time, could be expensive for the GP though! it must be strange for you to have everyone hoping your sister gets her BFP and no one knows about you trying too, we can be your cheering party! I'm dreading AF in about 10 days time. Also your question the other day about why it doesn't work if you have all the right ingredients - i have been wondering the same thing too! If you dtd alll the bloody time, and there is nothing wrong, it doesn't seem fair that it just doesn't work, no reasons given.

HungryHorace · 24/10/2013 22:47

Does anybody else get ovulation pain? It's quite uncomfortable tonight. Worryingly both ovaries. :-/ I don't want twins!!

DH is here tonight and not working tomorrow. I'm so pleased. :-) I'm going to bake some cakes and make a nice crumble too while he's here to supervise DD.

I think we have teeth about to come through too. Poor DD is really suffering.

Lucy, have you been able to DTD much this cycle? We've done more this month than when I got pregnant before, so fingers crossed!

I might POAS on 5th too. Though a BFN may ruin my birthday. But there's safety in numbers!

lucyjojo · 24/10/2013 22:58

Hi Hungry, you sure its ovulation pain??? I never really noticed before you know, but since paying such close attention to what my body is doing for the past 4 months, I have noticed I do get a few cramps, and nausea. More like a pulling sensation that pain, if that makes sense! Ah twins would be lovely....(dreams). Glad you've got some company, other than the small red faced one, my DH is working tonight, but has managed to get a day off on Sunday, and is off ALL of next week, what a treat! Unfortunately my ov time is just ending...we have actually dtd loads. I was only aiming for 2/3 times a week, but it has been eod since the day AF finished. Penciling it in for the morning too! I'm going to do it eod for the whole month I think.
Cakes sound delicious! What are you making? It's definately crumble season too. I'm going to make some millionaires shortbread on sat, it was my friends birthday the other day and I'm seeing her on sunday, so will give it to her as a present to share with me
Poas party friday 5th November sounds like a good idea, there will be fireworks to celebrate!!!

lucyjojo · 24/10/2013 22:59

5th november is not a friday. Don't mind me.....

HungryHorace · 24/10/2013 23:50

No, 1st is though. Is that when you're POAS now?! :-)

And yes, definite OV pain. I got it when TTC DD too, and it matches my positive OPK too.

Are you saying you'd like twins?!?! The thought makes me exhausted!

I'm making a banana loaf, a lemon drizzle cake and a plum / berry crumble. Yummy! Comfort food. :-)

DD has finally gone to sleep after being awake for hours with her teeth. Lots of chewing, drooling and crying. Poor thing. I hope she gets a good sleep.

How lovely to have your DH all next week too. And well done on the EOD DTD. We have done it 6 out of the last 7 days, then 2 other days in my cycle. I'm hoping to DTD tomorrow too. If we don't get lucky it'll be a stats thing, not because we haven't done it at the right time.

Fx for both of us! :-)

utopian99 · 25/10/2013 02:04

Bit late to the news but here's to a very strong and healthy attitude I believe, and better luck with the nextattempts.

Amazing puddings hungry.. I wonder whether I need to say something to dh; before ds EOD wouldn't have been a problem, but now even coming to bed stark naked (sorry for that detail!) And semi joking about hoping to seduce him and possibly oving gets nothing. We do DTD every 3/4 days but I'd much rather up the frequency, even TTC aside!

Good luck to you and to your sister toothpaste, no one knows we're trying again, although my mum knows it's likely we would be soon.

MitsuruSenpai · 25/10/2013 06:09

Ibelieve Sorry to hear you haven't had good news, here's hoping you get some soon (and why not have your cake AND run too?) Smile

Hungry I've only ever had ovulation pain once, and it was the month we conceived DS! We were at my in laws for dinner and I felt a sharp pain for about 30 seconds, felt like nothing else I've ever had and I knew what it was straight away. Whispered to DH that we needed to be making tracks and the rest is history! And now I need to make some cakes this weekend, yours sound amazing Smile

Well, after about 10 days of waiting with baited breath and more internet cheapy tests then I care to admit to, AF finally reared her head this morning. I've been half expecting it, was very optimistic the first few days but the longer I went without a BFP the more I convinced myself it was just a cycle blip. Still, onwards and upwards! DH has agreed to getting the Clearblue monitor back out which worked first go for us last time, so here's hoping for a November BFP for me!

lucyjojo · 25/10/2013 07:59

Hmm 1st...yeh maybe! I don't think I can hold out until the 5th! In the cold light of day, no, twins would be insane!! But I think any amount of babies at this point would be better than none, and it would mean I wouldn't have to go through all this again. Hungry your cakes sound amazing! it's like our very own MN bake off! Shame we can't do a cake swap. I don't know where you find your energy from Hungry, making cakes, teething baby, ttc #2! We didn't manage to ttc this morning, we are both so knackered. I'm thinking of finishing work early today so I can come home and catch DH before he goes to work this evening...or is that getting a bit desperate??!! I just don't want to miss today then get a BFN, I'll be kicking myself!
Utopian I think 3/4 days is a very good effort, especially when you have a little one to look after too. Maybe you should make some cake, you know what they say about the way to a mans heart....
I'm sorry Mitsu. It's still always disappointing even when you expect it. Clearblue monitor sounds interesting, is that just an OPK thing? Fx for you for November too!

MitsuruSenpai · 25/10/2013 08:29

lucy yeah, it's basically OPK without the guesswork! You POAS and put it in the monitor which gives you a readout of when you should try, and also gives you a bit more notice. Instead of having to work out when one line is darker than the other it gives you a few days of "high" fertility when it detects you're about to ovulate, then 3 days of "peak" around when you actually do so you've plenty of chances to hit the right day! It's not cheap but we got one after 6 months TTC last time and it worked first time so in my experience it's well worth it!

mrsm22 · 25/10/2013 08:46

Good morning everyone,
I hope everyone is ok. Hungry - I love lemon drizzle cake and a lovely crumble with custard. Ooh lovely, save me some of both. I'm at the stage where I'm going off things that I'm eating and fancying different things. I'm also always hungry. Having porridge every morning for breakfast even before work and cut out drinking tea totally now that I know but I miss that a lot.
ATruth - where are you?
Lucy - what is millionaires shortbread?
IBelieve - I hope you are ok

OP posts:
IBelieveInEngels · 25/10/2013 09:07

Ooooh...banana loaf and berry crumble

I'm going food shopping in a minute and will definitely be picking up some ingredients now.

Feeling fine emotionally today. A relief to move on but physically I am absolutely shattered. Either lingering pg hormones or the strain of the last few days kicking in. Still, we get an extra hour sleep this weekend, eh? though of course I do have to get a long run in so will be pounding the pavement

mrsm millionaire's shortbread is like homemade twix but SOO much nicer

Sorry AF got you Mits

HungryHorace · 25/10/2013 10:03

Goodness, it's been busy this morning! Hope I can remember everything to respond to.

Sorry AF got you, Mits. And yay to the CBFM. I've used the bog standard OPKs from them this time and had my smiley yesterday. I know it's not as good as the CBFM as it doesn't give you the build up days, but it's still impossible to not understand it! Here's hoping it works as well for you again.

Lucy, I did wonder how you'd wait when you said AF was due in 10 days!

And I agree with everyone that it's so hard with a little one to DTD enough. No time or energy, hence a couple of times where DH struggled to complete the job! :-/ We've had the most perfunctory, unromantic, sex ever this time. I won't even tell you how we achieved success yesterday, apart from I didn't have to be present til the end!! Needs must and all that :-)

I love the sound of millionaires shortbread too. Yum yum!

Toothpaste, good luck to you and especially good luck to your DSis. Keeping fingers crossed.

Mrs, I still drank tea. One for breakfast and one when I got home from work. Couldn't not drink it! Even though I quite often threw it back up, ha ha!

Oh, regarding OV pain, I'm sure I didn't used to get it back in the pre contraception days, but that was 19 or so years ago, so god knows. I didn't have it the first 2 months off contraception, so think I didn't OV. That would make sense with the injection leaving my system. Since then I had it the next 3 cycles, and got pregnant the third. And I think I had it but not so bad last cycle. This is as bad as it's been, but it's stopped now so I assume it's happened! Must try for afternoon DTD today when DD is asleep. :-)

And now my memory has packed in. Sorry if I've not responded to you. :-/

Hope everyone has a Good Friday!

mrsm22 · 25/10/2013 10:04

IBelieve - I'm at work but thank goodness it's nearly the weekend. I fancy making scones so might give it a go this weekend. I'm do glad you're feeling ok emotionally and you sound positive. I envy people like you. I am shattered too but I know it will happen for you really soon xx

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 25/10/2013 10:06

Oh, and IBelieve, I'm impressed with your stoicism. You sound really strong. I don't know how you feel as I've not experienced it, but I think I understand what you mean about it not being as raw as you know you're able to carry a baby to term.

Good luck with your run!

Now, must get out of bed. DD gave us a lie in. It's awesome, but I do need to get baking!

Kt1991 · 25/10/2013 10:23

All this talk of cakes is making me hungry now! me and DS have got into a little routine of making cakes on a sat or sunday afternoon now ever couple of weeks, so will be buying some ingredients tomorrow when we go food shopping. I picked up that first edition of the disney magazine when it came out so gonna try make the mickey mouse biscuits!

lucyjojo · 25/10/2013 10:52

I admire your dedication to not drinking tea Mrs! I've just brewed up some strong coffee to get me through the day at work.Have you thought about drinking decaf? I don't know what kind you drink, but Tetley do one and you can barely tell the difference. Are you feeling very yucky or are you kind of enjoying the novelty?
Mitsu can you remember how much you paid? I'm going to use OPKs next month so it might be worth investing also!
I did think about forcing myself to do it this morning Hungry, but then thought it's just getting silly and becoming more of a chore than an enjoyment. You did make me laugh with how you dtd yesterday, whilst im at work I should add!!
where is metal? Hope you are ok.

HungryHorace · 25/10/2013 11:34

We laugh about it too, Lucy! No other way of dealing with it really. I've promised some nicer sex this weekend!

I didn't bother with decaf. But then I still ate medium rare steak too (first time by accident when it didn't cook as well as expected and I couldn't be bothered to cook it more, next time deliberate) and had a couple of drinks after the first trimester. Naughty me!

Are you lot really good while pregnant?

donnas1984 · 25/10/2013 13:30

Quick question guys. . . do any of you know about dying your hair while pregnant? im sure your meant to wair till after 12 weeks but oh my my roots are sooo bad Sad. Is it an old wives tale?
Hungry I was very good when pg switched to decaff no alcohol whatsoever! very boring haha xx

Metalhead · 25/10/2013 14:04

Hi all, sorry I've been absent for a while. And sorry about your news IBelieve, you seem to be coping remarkably well and I hope you get another BFP soon.

Right, there's no easy way to say this but I've decided to take a step back from this thread as I don't think it was helping my state of mind. I feel terrible saying this but I couldn't help but feel jealous of those who've already got their BFPs (even though I'm very happy for you too!) and it put even more stress on myself.

I'm really trying to be a bit less obsessive about the whole thing, and part of that is also to not constantly compare notes with other people. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, and I apologise if it does, but I think I have to do this.

I'll probably still pop in ocassionally to see how everyone's getting on, but I won't be on here every day anymore. Good luck to everyone! X

HungryHorace · 25/10/2013 14:17

Donna, I'm not sure. I had mine done the day I found out, but didn't do it again after. I don't think you are meant to though. :-/

And I totally understand, Metalhead. The threads are a double edged sword as the support is great but there will always be a level of jealousy when someone else succeeds before you.

I really hope you get your BFP soon and come back to tell us. xx

RoyMum · 25/10/2013 17:42

Very late to the thread ladies but we just started ttc#2. Ds is 2 and I'm 27 and dh is 26. Last time took 8 months and don't want to get obsessed this time as ds was a surprise after years of being told I couldn't have a child :( unfortunately I'm wiser this time and have found opks. Done several already and nada. Currently on cd16 first cycle and as we've had many accidents in the past and never fallen pregnant I'm expecting I have very low hormone levels!

Toothpastekissesno2 · 25/10/2013 19:27

Hi my happy news is my sis got her bfp this morning!! I am literally so happy for her I cried like a baby! She so deserves it after two tough years. It's still early days of course but we are very happy and shocked - I haven't heard many first time ivf stories.
Metal I so understand where u are coming from. Especially as more and more people get their bfp. Makes it hard not to feel jealous. U are right to do what's right for you.
Hungry I wasn't particularly angelic when pg. had occasional glass of wine and one cup of tea every day. It's weird u are meant to give up caffeine when you are the tiredest of your life! I reckon second time round is quite different. I wouldn't have the time to have naps or not lift things!
Lucy thank you. This thread is great for me as I want my sister to have all the attention she deserves and yet I can talk freely on here.
I am knackered today but that could be a long drive to the inlaws with a cross little boy who ate too much chocolate cake from great granny!
Happy weekend all

mrsm22 · 25/10/2013 19:51

Good evening all!
So much to catch up on. Sorry I've only posted little comments the last few days. Lucy - I'm feeling fine thanks , just a bit more tired than usual and I'm hungry all the time, going off certain foods and can't really decide what I want to eat etc . So far no sickness apart from feeling sick on Monday. I'm just on countdown til I see and meet the midwife, I hope she's really nice . Xxx
Donna - how are you? Interesting question about colouring your hair as I was worried about it with my DS. It's perfectly safe! I bleached my hair almost every few weeks throughout my pregnancy with my DS and my mum is a hairdresser. I've now gone back to my natural colour so I'm dark again and haven't coloured my hair for a year but I'm thinking of maybe having some low lights, but rest assured it is perfectly safe!
Toothpaste - congrats to your sister . Hopefully you next !
Hi Hungry - I couldn't help but laugh at what you said about DTD with your DH and only being present at the end . Needs must and a that ! I'm confident it's you next joining me and Donna and Windy and Stacks xx
Roy - hello and welcome aboard!
Metal - I'm sad you feel that way but completely understand and hope we will still hear from you. For what it's worth , I never thought it would happen this quickly for me.
Re pregnancy - I am super good, no tea and no alcohol etc. is decaf tea not much different?

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 25/10/2013 19:52

Hi Roy! Welcome :-)

Toothpaste, that's bloody awesome news. Congrats to your sister and DH/P. Awwwww!

It sounds like your DS has had a lovely time today as well.

mrsm22 · 25/10/2013 20:15

Hi Hungry - how's you DD with her teething? And what do you have planned for over the weekend? X
