Hi all,
Been lurking around Mumsnet after MC in February and finally feel ready to start trying again. Bit excited, bit nervous. Keeping fingers crossed for a bfp soon Smile

NicolaHazel · 21/07/2012 19:56

Hi something :-)

Fx you fall again soon.

Newbie2 · 22/07/2012 08:10

Morning ladies. CD 14 for me and no smiley face on the digi stick or peak bar on the CBFM. Not happy!!!! Sods law, especially as we're booked to stay in a hotel tonight. Typical! OMG I'm going to have to take all may sticks with me...how romantic!

LisaC2611 · 22/07/2012 09:26

Morning all

newbie a night away sounds lovely, sticks or no sticks I'm sure you'll make it romantic

Cd5 for me and I used the cb ov test this morning fx for a smiley face soon Grin

Am going to try to convince hubby that we need to dtd at least 3 times a week which is not always easy for us.

Who's next to test?

letsdothisthing · 22/07/2012 10:11

Morning all, hi something :)

Hope you had a fab night away newbie

CD23 in our household and my chart on FF says I ov'd on Thursday 19th so now 3DPO and into the 2ww!!!

NicolaHazel · 22/07/2012 11:53

Morning all (just!).

Surprised myself by waking up at half ten this morning...I clearly needed sleep!

Got to draft a couple of witness statements today, which will keep me indoors :-( But will bring much-needed pennies in.

Who is next to test, I've lost track now.

Newbie2 · 22/07/2012 12:08

Ladies, I felt a twinge and did another digi stick two hours later (11ish) and got a smiley face! TG DH is home so DtD just in case! What's going on though how can I get a smiley within two hours of getting a negative OV? And why did the CBFM not pick up the surge? Goodness I hope these sticks aren't faulty! Oh well at least I'm covered if it is right.

Morning Nicola glad their is a positive side to you working on a Sunday :) Hope it goes quickly so you get to relax later!

Glad you managed to DTD, Newbie :-)

Fx you caught the little eggy!

Newbie2 · 22/07/2012 12:44

Well we've DTD 4x this week compared to the 2x last month so there's not much more we can do. We will never be able to reach every day stats and I don't want to put that much pressure on DH. I do hope my CBFM shows a peak sign tomorrow morning though!

I couldn't hope to achieve every day in a million years! And it's really not needed, according to the experts.

A lot of it is just good luck, with some good timing also, but I've seen people post on here than they did it once in a month, 5 or so days prior to OV, and caught that way!

Also, I was half listening to the TV yesterday and a trailer was on where Robert Winston said that sperm have to beat odds of 120 million against them to impregnate the eggy! (I think that's what he said, but I almost fell off the sofa!)

The good news is that as we'er a touch short of cash this month, H2B isn't drinking as much, so hopefully his swimmers will be a bit more swimmy this month! Not that he drank loads, but every little helps, as they say :-)

Hello ladies, hope you don't mind me poking my head around the door to say don't be too reliant on ov tests. The LH surge that can trigger ovulation can last as little as a few hours, so if you're only using 1 or 2 sticks a day it is very possible to miss the surge.
Don't forget the surge does not mean you will definitely ovulate, many women will experience a few surges through their cycle before actually releasing an egg.

Also, women with irregular cycles tend to have naturally high levels of LH in their system, so the ov tests are next to useless as they will give false positives.

The only way to be sure you have ovulated (apart from a blood test from your Dr!) is to chart your temperature throughout your cycle and look for the rise in temperature that comes after ovulation has happened.

NicolaHazel · 22/07/2012 13:01

Hi Cavemum!

I really can't be bothered with the temperature thing, it has to be said...especially bearing in mind my work day begins when the alarm goes off at 5.55am, which is far too early to be faffing with thermometers. I suppose if I don't fall sooner rather than later, I may end up having to do that, but for now I'll just see how it goes. :-)

Interesting to know that fact though, thank you.

Newbie2 · 22/07/2012 13:01

Nicola omg that's a very small chance for implantation Shock. I still think you're much better at keeping up DtD then me lol That friend of mine who pretended to fall pregnant at our wedding oh yes she lied!! I've done the calculations and it turns out she fell pregnant a month before. They only did it the once! They did it the once with their DD and now hit the jackpot again....arrergghhh how annoying is that! So it only takes the once. Will be good if you can get DP to stay off the booze. My DH doesn't drink but he does love cake so we need work on that!

OP posts:
Newbie2 · 22/07/2012 13:12

Cavemum are you sure it's just a few hours? My instruction books says 'The Clearblue DIGITAL Ovulation Test detects the rise of the ovulation hormone LH 24-36 hours prior to ovulation and identifies the 2 best days to conceive in a given cycle'.

I wish I had used the thermometer to check for ovulation, however, how much testing can one do in the morning before work!

OP posts:
CaveMum · 22/07/2012 13:23

Taking your temperature literally takes 30 seconds. You have to do it before you get out if bed as its a resting rate.

Everyone is different when it comes to ovulation so it's not possible to follow a hard and fast rule. The LH surge can build over a few days, but in other women it is over within hours. Don't forget that once the LH has reached the right level the oestrogen takes over to trigger the ovulation, so the cheapy ov sticks become useless as they only measure LH. The CBFM are slightly better as they measure both hormones. But neither are 100% accurate.

I used cheap ov sticks and a CBFM over 4 cycles and only got positive readings in one cycle, but I know that I ovulated (irregularly) in each of the 4 cycles, because I has blood tests taken (I have PCOS).
The best thing to do is to monitor all the signs together, and not take 1 in isolation. Cervical mucus is probably the best sign to watch for that doesn't need actual testing for!

Good luck to all of you, and please don't beat yourselves up if you don't get pregnant as quickly as you had hoped. It can take up to a year for a perfectly healthy couple to conceive. I've been trying for over 2 years now and although we now know that I have issues (the aforementioned PCOS) I wish I'd not put myself under so much pressure when we first started this TTC journey Smile

Mrsb999 · 22/07/2012 13:57

Well I'm still in shock - I got a BFP this morning, couldn't Believe it so I did 3 more tests and they were all positive too!

Very happy indeed!

DulcetMoans · 22/07/2012 14:52

Congrats mrsb! Excellent news, we need a BFP to get us through.

Thanks for adding me to the list newbie, I will be looking at 18th to test. Can add myself when I get back if you don't get a chance.

NicolaHazel · 22/07/2012 15:09

Congrats Mrsb!!

Finally some positive news :-)

Mrsb999 · 22/07/2012 15:26

Thanks, still not quite sunk in yet as we only started trying 3 weeks ago!

Sending positive baby vibes to you all!

MumOfTwoCats · 22/07/2012 15:42

Congrats MrsB! Hopefully that will rub off on us!

Roxyjade · 22/07/2012 17:54

Hi All

Congrats Mrsb999, wow 3 weeks ago, how lucky, I hope some of your luck rubs off on us all :)

Need some advise guys, I woke up late this morning and I missed my testing window on my CBFM. I have until 10.30 to do it and woke at 11 (so annoying) will this now not track my ov correctly and not show a peak? shall I still do a test tomorrow morning if it asks.

Im so annoyed with my self,,, i never sleep in :(

somethingcool · 22/07/2012 18:42
