Hmmm...so much for DTD tonight. H2B helps his dad with a funeral business and he's had to go and collect a dead body. Will probably be gone an hour. Bugger. :-/

mumbaisapphire · 22/07/2012 23:30

My test date is going to be 25th Aug for cycle 2. Have also decided I'll try temping this cycle too to give me some piece of mind that at least I'll know one way or another that I have ovulated. Congrats Mrs.B.

Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 06:17

Morning! Nicola did Bri come back in time? Hope so!

CD 15 - still no peak on the monitor and no smiley face :( What is going on!! You know when I said I had loads of cm after ovulation last cycle and I thought it was related to carrying shopping bags what an idiot well maybe I ovulated later then I thought! Considering I've got very little cm this could be true!

Hi Newbie...no, I was half asleep and couldn't be arsed decided it was best to sleep given I've a busy week ahead!

Our bodies are all playing tricks on us, so late OV is a real possibility.

Roxyjade · 23/07/2012 08:35

Hi newbie

It says that you must do all the test requested, (which I no I just woke up late) It requested another this morning so I have done that and it's high.!!!

Hopefully it still gets to know my cycle even though I missed one.

purplefairies · 23/07/2012 08:46

Great news about the first BFP on this thread!! Hope there are many more to come.

AF finally turned up on Saturday - I woke up with horrible cramps and thought "yay, she's finally here, my body is still working after all", so I guess I'm officially on cycle 3. I know this is only my second AF since stopping the pill, but it seems to be taking a bit of time to get going. I'm still just "spotting" at the moment - so much so that I could get away with using a panty liner. Is that odd?

Hope to be testing again around August 23/24.

Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 09:24

Purple sorry about AF. It's good that you're returning back to normal post pill though so that's something to be thankful for. I think I am on cycle 3 post pill and AF hasn't arrived. I can't even be confident that I ovulated last cycle now that I know how unreliable my CB OV sticks are. I've realised now that with no AF I've just got to keep DtD EOD during the whole cycle...poor DH is exhausted after achieving DtD 5x last week. He said yesterday that he finally feels ready for a child...I really had to bite my lip :) but also has a warm fuzzy feeling that we're finally on the same page

Does anyone know of a good basal temping thermometer?

OP posts:
Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 09:29

Sorry that should read I also have a fuzzy feeling...

Roxy we will beat the CBFM!!

OP posts:
purplefairies · 23/07/2012 09:31

Wow, Newbie, that must be frustrating not really knowing when to DTD. I find it exhausting enough doing EOD for a week or so :)

Don't be too disheartened by the lack of AF, though. My best friend only has AF twice to three times a year and she has three DC now.

keepitgoing · 23/07/2012 09:32

newbie if you don't get af it means you either didn't ovulate or are pregnant... If you've just come off the pill it can take up to a year to start ovulating, so I would try not to stress too early. As someone trying for over a year, do not put your relationship under too much pressure now, just dtd 2-3 times a week.

Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 09:36

Purple it's a little disheartening to know that the last weeks hardcore efforts might have been for nothing but at the same time I don't even know that :) if anything we're now in the EOD mode which to be honest took a good cycle to get used to! My CBFM is still showing high fertility like Roxy ;) Just got to keep look forward now!

OP posts:
Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 09:39

keepitgoing um are you sure about that? My doctor says you can still ovulate and not get AF and so does information on Google if you can trust the source. I kind of believe my doctor though because surely she would know if that wasnt true.

OP posts:
keepitgoing · 23/07/2012 09:43

You can ovulate before you've had a period, so that may be what they mean, but 10-16 post ov you would get a period or bfp.

CaveMum · 23/07/2012 11:43

Just to clarify, it is possible to have a period but not ovulate (an annovulatory cycle) but it is not possible to ovulate and not have a period. If you ovulate the hormones released trigger the thickening of the uterine lining, if no egg implants the lining will break down and be shed.

Some people have naturally very long cycles, and these are often due to under lying hormonal issues. I have PCOS and went 8 months without a period at one stage.

If you have not had a period for 6 months you should visit your GP and ask to be referred for fertility tests.

It is a bit of a myth that the body needs time to get the Pill out of its system, if this was the case how come some women fall pregnant after missing only a few tablets?

Try the Access Disgnostics for a basal body temperature thermometer. They are only a few £.

Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 12:06

Cavemum OMG really? I haven't had AF since coming off the pill in April :(

OP posts:
Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 12:08

Why did my doctor say I could still be ovulating with AF arrival then? slightly freaking out and want to scream at GP if this is true

OP posts:
Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 12:08

I meant without AF arriving

OP posts:
Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 12:24

Also, why have I got CB OV smiley faces on the same day in June and July? Obviously I know you ladies don't have the answers but I'm now feeling über frustrated to hear that you can't OV if AF never arrives :( Shock

OP posts:
MissMedusa · 23/07/2012 12:31

Your body can gear up to ovulate but there might not be an egg there to be released. OPK's are only good to use in conjunction with other fertility monitors as they don't show whether you ovulate only that your body wants to ovulate (by creating an LH surge). I don't know if it's possible to OV and not get an AF but I would think it's highly unlikely (where would all the dead eggs go?)

I also recommend taking your temperature. It's the only way to know for sure. It's a bit of a pain but you get used to it.

CaveMum · 23/07/2012 12:44

As MissMedusa says, the OPKs only show a surge in hormones that might trigger ovulation, they don't guarantee that it will happen.

Irregular cycles are very common and it will take you time to get to know what is normal for you, as the Pill creates an artificial cycle.

The hormones involved are interlinked, you need one to trigger the next. If one fails to show up the whole cycle grinds to a halt.

Don't forget, GPs are not fertility experts. Many of them have shockingly little knowledge of fertility.

Newbie2 · 23/07/2012 12:47

Thanks MissM I appreciate your answer.

I will buy a thermometer today. Do you think it matters when I start using it? I don't mind doing all these things anymore, I've already gone POAS crazy anyway. If I have to go to the doctors to report that I've had no AF for 6 months then I'd rather be able to give all the facts and hope for a quicker assessment. If I haven't had AF by September I will go back to the doctor then. I will continue to use the CBFM and check temps until then.
