abney im glad to hear im not the only one , it makes no sense, if im saying i know its more expensive and i dont mind paying it then believe me !! like i said its ok it i dont need it but dont tell me its not being used any more and then offer it to everyone else !

i remember reading about adoption on here a couple of weeks ago but when i scrolled back i couldnt find it , i had heard you have to wait until 6 mths after you had stopped fertility treatment before joining any lists etc for adoption , is there an truth in this ?

lemonsherbet · 23/07/2012 07:21

pico think it was duggs who was looking into adoption. From what I have heard yes this is the case. They like a period of time between last treatment and starting the adoption process off

Abney · 23/07/2012 08:34

Hi Free they didn't tell me in hospital about nipple cream. Horrible I know but without it I would have stopped within a few days as it hurt too much. It looks like vaseline but obviously it is not and it is safe for baby. I think the health visitor advised me of it. It is an instant cure.

I have my 6th SO scan today and I keep having weird dreams. Last night I dream't that the Dr could not find any follies but instead they said suspected cancer of the liver. Truely what a b*dy nightmare. I am going later than usual for my scan ie 13/14th day. Louise said I should DTD at the weekend but to be honest I couldn't be bothered. Just back from holiday and clearing loads of bushes from garden so just knackered and if the *eggs' are still there I don't want to waste DH energy for no gain. So here's hoping they find some good size follies and they haven't already come out.

I think also Dr S is going to discuss the next step which I think is IUI. Has anyone done this and most importantly can DH DTD from home? I think someone said as long as you live near then you could do this. I live approx 25 mins from Epsom. It would be funny for him to DTD whilst I am making a cup of tea. A lot less stressful and tiresome. Grin

Lastly my mum was watching a programme and it said that a man each time he DTD 250 mil sperm are released but out of these only 20 make it to the egg. I couldn't believe it. I guess if the 20 are no good or the egg is weak then this is the reason why you don't get pg. I guess if 250 mil were injected to where they are supposed to be then obviously you stand a much greater chance.

Anyway enjoy your day in the sun everyone. What a welcome relief.

PQ77 · 23/07/2012 09:48

free text me if you'd like the details of the local nct breast feeding supporter - she's great. And yes, lanisoh lanolin cream is your friend!

holldoll · 23/07/2012 11:33

Abney I've been off the thread since my last MC, i have Found it hard this time after the 4 th Loss.
I'm on the train now to be 'iui'd as we speak. I will let you know. We have gone down this route as partner is away so much that we miss 6 months of trying per year.
I think success rate is small though but we can't afford ivf and don't have fertility issues. Just me with high NKC.

Congrats free on baby Sebastian and to all those who have had great scans.
Hugs to those not do lucky, I understand as the last pregnancy on treatment for me ended in MC after going for several very stressful scans.

suemays · 23/07/2012 11:50

Abney I saw that programme too so it really is amazing that anyone gets pregnant. At least it only takes one to fertilise the egg though. It also said on that programme that if any of the other sperm manage to penetrate the eggs walls once the first one has made it in, then pregnancy will not happen. It might still be on Sky if you have it - I think it was called 'the amazing body'.

Free I also had problems for 2 weeks breast feeding and went to the NHS BF support at my hospital. They were brilliant as I had no idea what I was doing and thought it should come naturally!! My DD was too weak to latch on which didnt help but I got there in the end and BF for 9 months. The lanisoh cream was a life saver for me too!! Brilliant stuff so def get some.

Holldoll good luck with the IUI today.

Jemimapuddleduk · 23/07/2012 11:51

abney, I can give you some advice on iui as I have had 2 cycles and amazingly it worked both times for us! I think we were quoted a success rate of around 17%. Without help it takes us around 10 months to fall pregnant but all fertility tests in me and dh are clear so we are in that annoying 'unexplained' category. For some reason iui works. Sadly the first time we had a mc at around 9 weeks after seeing heartbeat at 6 and 7 weeks. I am currently awaiting a scan on Friday at 6.5 weeks. I think it's more sucessful when combined with SO (I did menopur and ovritelle). First time had 2 follies this last time only 1. The procedure is pain free (speculum like a smear test and tube thing inserted). My dh has had to produce the sample at the clinic around 3 hours prior to the procedure. They clean up the sample to get rid of the lazy ones and add a weird pink solution to help them swim. Feel free to fire any more questions across.
holls good luck with it today!

holldoll · 23/07/2012 14:42

Just had it, really nothing much to add to Jemimas post except I asked to be scanned as didn't want it done if had already I ovulated.
Fingers crossed we are as lucky as Jemimas iui! Good luck for your scan too on Friday

Abney · 23/07/2012 14:57

Hi Holldoll I do feel for you. I think that when you have had the 4th you realise that it cannot just be bad luck and this is where the fight to get what you want really starts. You can get pg which is a good sign. I was so upset the first few and then I had DS (number 7). I have had another 4 mc since DS with the last one reaching 8.5 weeks. This was the furthest I had got for for a long while. Usually they end at about 7.5 weeks or they are quite early at around about the 6 week mark. The last one was the hardest as I saw the heartbeat twice even after getting a bleed which was like a heavy burst of blood. Anyway I just saw 'Jemima's post. This has cheered me up. Especially as they filter out the weak sperm. Good luck with your IUI and let me know how you get on.

Jemima that is great news on the sucess of IUI. It has cheered me up. I haven't had a problem getting pg before SO and as this is now the 6th time I feel that I need something else. The longest gap was about 7 months last year and then I fell pg twice in 3 months. Sadly lost both. All the best of luck on your scan on Friday. I know how nerve racking it will be.

Suemays thanks for the info. Apparently they need the thick mucous to swim up ie it acts like a watefall. Very interesting. Perhaps that's where the IUI helps.

The only issue with the IUI is DH and his reluctance to dtd behind a closed door if you know what I mean. I need to work on that. I will also ask DR S about dtd at home and then transporting it to NLC.

Jemima and Holldoll how have your OH's found the process? Were they reluctant participants? How long does it take to transfer the 'goods' via the speculum?
I am seeing Dr S shortly and I think I am going to ask for IUI next time. Did DR S recommend it to you and if so was it due to the main reason being that SO on it's own was not working?

Jemimapuddleduk · 23/07/2012 15:12

Holldoll, fingers crossed for you.
Abney my DH has luckily been ok about the IUI. We had been ttc for nearly 2 years and already had 2mc's by the time we started the IUI in February. I think we both felt relieved to be finally getting some help to be honest as we felt a bit lost, down and fobbed off by GP! We ended up going private last November 7 months after 2nd mc and with no bfp. The consultant we saw at Care Fertility referred us to his NHS clinic and we were seen in January this year. In our PCT area it is 6 IUIs and 1 funded IVF. Due to my third pregnancy (first one on IUI) also miscarrying i am now on the fragmin, pred, aspirin, high dose folic acid and progesterone combo.
With the actual procedure both times the nurse let DH release the valve to let the goods in! So DH felt part of the process. It only takes around a minute to go in and then i had to lie with hips raised for around 20 minutes. With doing the sample i can imagine it is a bit awkward as at our clinic DH has to produce it in a bathroom just off the waiting room! However having done around 3 sperm samples prior to commencing IUI i think he has had to get used to it!
I wish you all the best with it.

Jemimapuddleduk · 23/07/2012 15:22

ps thank you for your good wishes for Friday. I am absolutely petrified but trying hard to be postive. Scans fill me with dread nowadays. Still not feeling very symptomatic (not even heavier boobs this time) so that is also worrying me but hoping the pred is masking it.

suemays · 23/07/2012 16:30

Jemima I am petrified with every scan too and convinced that it will be bad news but here I am at 13 weeks and 3 days and so far it all seems to be going OK. I think you prepare yourself for the worst as its a self preservation mechanism. I didnt have many symptoms at 6 weeks apart from tiredness - heavy boobs and nausea kicked in around 8 weeks for me but the preds def mask the symptoms. Good luck for Friday.

Abney · 23/07/2012 16:58

Hi Jemima thanks for all of the info. Dr S said usually they allow for 6 SO attempts and then they look at trying something else. I asked about IUI and he said no there would be no benefit. So we discussed IVF. He said that the cost would be around 5k and that it only increases if you are successful ie 3 sets of intralipids, etc. I asked about chromosone testing and freezing embryos, etc and he said no point. Reason being is that they would not expect to extract more than 3 eggs for someone my age. Dr S said that they would implant all 3 embryos, if 3 did make it so there would be none to freeze. With the chromosone testing, again he said no point due to the small amount of embryos expected. AS for DH they said if he was really bothered then they recommended booking the Premier Inn which is opposite NLC in Epsom. The success rate for my age (44) at their clinic is 9%. They did say that if the first IVF attempt failed they would advise if I should attempt a 2nd go or not as the results of the first IVF will determine whether to try it again. They did say 2 ladies have got pg recently on the 6th SO attempt. Anyway I have 2 follies this month so if I don't get pg I either carry on with SO or start IVF. Let's keep my fingers crossed that I fall pg this time round.

Jemimapuddleduk · 23/07/2012 17:57

abney, yes fingers crossed for this 6th SO cycle. I really hope it works for you. I wouldn't worry too much about the ivf success rates, there are so many variables (easier said than done though). It is very handy about the premier inn too in terms of taking the pressure off your OH. That price doesn't seem too high too (we were factoring in about £7k at care fertility Manchester if we get to that stage after all nhs funding finishes).
sue, thank you for your reassurance. It is good to hear that things can go well with minimal symptoms initially and the mega worry it causes.

holldoll · 23/07/2012 17:58

Abney - my partner didn't have an issue with it, he was just proud to tick the box on the form which stated that he had aimed it all in to the cup!!! And no spills!!!!
Because he is away so much it has been frozen so is on ice unroll need it again. Fingers crossed. I saw mr g at new life, I really like him and have felt a bit more supported by him.
Good luck with it, Abney and thanks again for the good wishes x

holldoll · 24/07/2012 07:13

I meant to add- thanks sue, glad its all going well for you.
Abney - hope the sixth SO is successful. IVF is so expensive but I guess you can't put a price on having another DC.

Now I'm to the 2ww which I dread and the pred which makes me look 6 months preg after about 3 days due to fluid retention! The joys.

Good luck to everyone else.

Cheerfulcharlie · 24/07/2012 16:04

Hi Ladies. Just quickly checking in to say it's my due date today but I'm still going! Had a check up and pencilled in an induction for 6th if nothing has happened before then but i would be 41+6 by then so let's hope it's not needed.

Bertha337 · 24/07/2012 18:46

Yeah cheerful - how exciting! Hopefully you won't need to be induced- I heard curries, sex and walking is meant to help. In any order. Is this your first?

Been away so will need to catch up on earlier comments...

In meantime, hi to all, hope everyone is doing okay.

freelancegirl · 24/07/2012 23:56

Sue second trimester woo hoo to you! I;ve just PM'd you, Doppler is out and ready to make its way to the post office. Good timing too by the sounds of it. I have said this on email but remember people don't always find a hb so don't let that freak you out when you get it!

I can't check the list anymore as I always used myself as a marker to check everyone else was ok. But glad you are carrying it on without me.

Just had a two hour nap - bloody marvellous! Love to all xx

mercator · 25/07/2012 12:45

Cheerful good luck, let's hope baby makes an appearance before the induction! Fingers crossed all goes well! Time for a curry me thinks ;-)

Sue congrats on making it to the second trimester, let's hope you can relax a little now.

free good to hear from you and glad that you're managing some sleep considering your last post at midnight. Hope the breast feeding is kicking in. It took a while after my elcs.

Ladies, I have some ovulation sticks left over quite a good quantity 9 or 10 I think and seems a shame to waste them when they're so darn expensive. Would anyone like them posted. Could split into two batches if that makes more sense. Pm is you'd like them and I'll post on. By the way they were clear blue ones. Let me know if you just need the sticks and I'll send on first come first serve basis.

Havingkittens · 25/07/2012 22:09

Best of luck to cheerful. I look forward to your announcement!

Congratulations to sue too. 2nd trimester... amazing!
