Congratulations on all the good scan news! Sue very pleased you've reached the 9 wk milestone.

Free I think its completely natural to be apprehensive about the elcs. I was very nervous for weeks leading up to it. The op was fine and the staff in theatre are normally very jolly and jokey. You will no doubt have an epidural and it will feel odd walking into the theatre for the op it is a rather surreal feeling knowing your about to have a baby.

Once the epidural is in they'll lie you down put the screens up and just talk lots to you while they get on with the job in hand. I felt nothing at all which is great and before you know it you'll see your little baby. Make sure your DH takes his camera!! They are normally pretty good at directing camera shots. [ smile]

In recovery you'll be tucked up with your lo and then they'll be popped to your breast for a suckle! After a couple of hours you'll be up to the ward. The op itself is only about 10mins before meeting your baby so not long really at all.

Ty not to worry about it all and I'll be asking you all about it as its almost 4 yrs since my last so also apprehensive but had recently seen all the photos so brought back all the memories. Even have pictures of her coming out, my dh is obviously not squeamish at all! ;-)

digitalgirl · 10/07/2012 09:16

One week to go free!!! So excited for you. Tuesdays will never be the same again...

Hope all the first trimester ladies are managing to keep themselves distracted between scans. I found I was able to keep quite busy on the pred.

Buster76 · 10/07/2012 09:54

Hello everyone!! Just wanted to pop in to say Hi, sorry I havent been around for a while. Just got back from a well needed holiday in Portugal Smile
After seeing a local consultant I'm now going down the IVF route, Ive reached the top of the list already and I am due to see my consultant next week to start my treatment. Excited but anxious! He is going to give me 2 lots of lipids and possibly a 2 week supply of steroids, he is not a big believer in the steroid treatment Confused
I havent discussed anything with Mr S, I had 1 month on SO but my AF is still all over the place.
Lovely news on all the recent BFP, 9 weeks sue wow that has gone fast, although Im sure not for you!
Free one week to go, hope it goes well. You have been such brilliant support for all of us on here, giving each and everyone of us advice and much needed reassurance - Thankyou!! Smile
I'll keep you posted with the IVF journey Wink
xxx

sarahs999 · 10/07/2012 10:40

Morning all. I slept properly for the first time in ages last night but now I'm paying for it with super-buzzy steroid fever. I feel like I could take on Usain Bolt right now, but instead I'm having to sit at my desk and pretend to give a crap about the page I'm editing. Argh!

We had our mid-year review yesterday , which is done online, and although I'm 'meeting expectations' my boss said she felt that I was 'distracted' from my work. No shit sherlock! She knows all about my TTC journey, as well as what's going on with my Dad. What the hell does she expect? I thought it was a really picky and unfair comment actually.

How is everyone doing? Free, I'll talk to you more about CS on Saturday but I can honestly say that with mine I never felt any pain at all. The pain management at Lewisham was very good indeed. I was super-slow for a while but I think that was mostly down to the pre-eclampsia rather than a CS effect.

Oh and a pred question. Does anyone else get a) horrible coating in their mouth in the mornings? And b) very sweaty? It seems to make me pour sweat. On the train this morning I was looking round and everyone had coats on and looked perfectly comfortable; I was there in a summer dress fanning myself and still my forehead was embarrassingly soaked. Pretty.

brownstag · 10/07/2012 10:58

Hi Sarah. You have my sympathy with the insomnia; I came off the steroids because of it and am now just on hydroxy. Although I do think in my case it was more psychological than physical, a case of a self-fulfilling prophesy, because I've suffered it in the past.
I know a friend of mine, LJ71, had the dry mouth you describe.
I'm also meant to be editing this morning, a food safety handbook. What kind of stuff do you do, Sarah?

sarahs999 · 10/07/2012 11:13

Hi brownstag. I'm on staff at one of the broadsheets (won't say which one on here just in case I'm being snooped on!). I'm a sub so I mostly fiddle with other people's full stops, which is scintillating stuff, but sometimes they let me out to do interviews and write stuff. Which keeps me just about sane. Are you freelance? Books rather than media?

brownstag · 10/07/2012 11:50

Cool. Yes, freelance, and books, mainly academic and educational. Not so much work around the last couple of months though, but that's fine as I only work part-time. And hence why I've got MN open all day ...

suemays · 10/07/2012 12:01

Belly any more news on the CB tests? I stopped doing them after a while as I was driving myself mad and couldnt sleep properly the night before I was due to do one as I was so worried!

I am so relieved I have got passed 9 weeks! Mr S said that once you get to this stage, the immune problems would not cause a miscarriage and I now have a 1% chance of miscarrying due to other reasons (same as a 'normal' pregnancy). That was a relief and to all the ladies counting down the days to the first scan, at least you know you only have about 5 weeks before you move out of the danger zone - it doesn't seem as bad when you think of it like that. I have got my nuchal scan booked in for next Tues so I just hope all is OK then. Midwife is coming to see me later but I still feel a bit of a fraud as telling myself I am not pregnant still! Finding it hard to hide my bump though from my friends who don't know - I think they probably think I have been eating too many pies!

Free not long to go now - your pregnancy seems to have flown by to me!

Any other news from the early scanners?

Buster glad to hear you are at the top of the list for the IVF - its good to have a plan in place.

Sarah I had the dry mouth probs with the steroids plus insomnia and feeling hot and sweaty. I also noticed my hair has been really dry and started to fall out plus I have a lovely collection of facial hair and a moon face! When I had my break in the Spring from the steroids all of the side effects went including the awful facial hair.

Waves to everyone else.

Just updating my stats as they were somewhat out of date!

Sarah I wonder if you work for the broadsheet who's offices I have just worked in this morning. I was making up the Fashion Editor.

sue, that's amazing. You, out of everyone, are my beacon of hope because we've been through similar struggles with our light periods and endless months of BFNs. I am starting Hydroxy instead of Pred this cycle so I will be curious to see if it makes any difference.

free, OMG! You're having a baby next week. Grin

sarahs999 · 10/07/2012 15:28

Kittens, possibly! What was the nearest Tube station?

Havingkittens · 10/07/2012 15:41

Kings Cross?

sarahs999 · 10/07/2012 15:55

Nope, not me! Grin

Havingkittens · 10/07/2012 16:16

Victoria? Grin

sarahs999 · 10/07/2012 16:44

Ha ha, ok I'm getting nervous now. But yes!

Havingkittens · 10/07/2012 16:48

Haven't worked for them yet but someone I know used to work there and I went in with my portfolio ages ago. Maybe you know her. I won't mention her name but she left to write plays so if you know her then you'd twig who I was on about.

sarahs999 · 10/07/2012 18:19

We're a bit departmentalised here so if she wasn't in my area i probably wouldn't know her.

Bertha337 · 10/07/2012 20:10

sue congrats on the 9 week mark- I had no idea this was a milestone and was happy to read that it was. Is it like 12 weeks for 'normal' ladies, or is that still a critical milestone for us lot?

sarah I had night sweats, but spend most of my days cold! Infact, we are opposites on the sleep front as well- I am craving 10+hours a night. My bedtime lurks just around the corner at no later than 10pm, and dragging myself out of bed in the morning is torture. But I am thirsty all the time.

free wow! One week left!

Public swooning hasn't happened again- thank god. My OH was filling me in on all the shocked faces looking as us as he dragged me to safety. Feeling much better now though- thanks.

I have been so hung up on 'not losing the baby' that I have kinda taken my eye off what I am eating. I am not eating badly, but I just feel like I should be eating more variation.

belly and LJ how are things going?

suemays · 10/07/2012 20:48

bertha yes 9 weeks is the critical time for us immune probs ladies so once you see a heartbeat at this stage the risk due to that is very small. There are still risks at the 12 week stage that are not due to immunes such as downs and other growth problems.

My midwife told me today that she saw another one of mr s's patients who is 16 weeks with twins through ivf. It seems he is getting more famous! There must be lots of pregnant ladies seeing him who we don't know about.

kittens I hope for both of us that this pregnancy works. I am sure the hydroxy has made the difference plus coming off the steroids returned my fertility back to normal. Fingers crossed your new treatment plan will work soon.

LJ71 · 11/07/2012 07:00

All ok here so far. Off for my 2nd infusion in a bit. Counting the days till next Wednesday evening when I have my next scan.

BellyD · 11/07/2012 09:06

Free less than a week to go.......are you a total mixed bag of nerves and excitement? I agree with Buster, you have been a huge source of support and encouragement to everyone on here, not to mention keeper-in-chief of the list. I am sure the next 5 days will drag, but you have been such an inspiration to us, and I am so happy that you will soon realise your dream and meet your little one.

I haven't taken another digi, Sue can't really bring myself to do it and I think it will just stress me out even more. Certainly don't feel as queasy this week, which is a worry, although still no spotting, some cramping and boobs very tender. Trying to stay positive but half of me thinks that these might be my last few days of being pregnant ever.

Bertha glad you are feeling better and there have been no more public swooning incidents! Must have been very scary.

eurochick · 11/07/2012 10:27

Congrats sue for reaching the 9 week mark.

Bertha how very Victorian of you Wink. I'm glad you are ok now!

Slightly off topic, but some of you might remember that I had an abnormal smear test last month. I saw a gynae who did another one and took a swab to test for HPV. I got the results back yesterday, which still show mild abnormalities but also one of the cancer-causing strands of HPV, HPV 16. He wants me to have a LLETZ to remove part of my cervix. I am undecided as apparently the procedure can cause problems with carrying to term/dilating during childbirth. And some abnormalities (50-90% from what I have read) do clear up by themselves. I am wondering if I leave my immune system alone for a while, it would manage to clear it. But I don't really have time on my side. I am in a real quandry.

I know some of you mentioned when I posted before that you had had abnormal smears. Did any of you have LLETZ and did you have any problems with it afterwards?

sarahs999 · 11/07/2012 11:05

I think I had that procedure - I had it in Bangkok and it was called Loop Diatherm on my notes there. I ddin't have any probs afterwards; it was done mainly because the smear was inconclusive and I was living in Cambodia at the time which couldn't cope with such procedures, so I had it done as a precaution. The final analysis of what they removed showed it was not pre-cancerous after all.

That was more than 10 years ago. No one mentioned it would affect carrying a baby to term or dilation in childbirth (there's always ELCS?). I would imagine though that you need a few months' recovery time before you start TTC again. Best to get it done though. The alternative is not nice to contemplate.

Well - bad news I'm afraid. I was waiting to go in for my intralipids and started talking to Louise. We agreed to do a quick scan first. It was horrible as she thought she saw a hb to start with and told me that everything was fine, but then changed her mind. We then had this confirmed by the other consultant at NL. So ... I am going on a 5 day holiday tomorrow morning, so at least I'll be able to drink.

Outpatients ERPC probably next Wed.
