About to start TTC#2 - does anyone want to come along for the ride?

Hi there,

So, DD is going to be 3 in June and I'm going to be 38 two weeks later. About a year ago I wanted a 2nd DC but DH didn't. I then changed my mind at Xmas.

DH has now changed his mind and persuaded me so finally we're in agreement and ready to go.

CD1 is due this week and then we can start.

Is anyone else ready to TTC#2?

Evening All! Thanks for the welcome. Managed to DTD last night but meant DH and I didn't go to sleep until after midnight and then DS woke us up at the crack of dawn... ah joy! Almost certainly was rather futile in any event as I wasn't ovulating but hey ho at least I feel like we're keeping our bases covered!

DS (who is 23 mths) was conceived on our first cycle without too much effort so I'm a bit gutted that last month when we really went for it nothing happened... i'm extremely impatient not very patient, so now i'm all armed with my ovulation sticks and off to see a reflexologist on Thursday. If it doesn't happen this month then i'm going to try the cbfm next month. I hope I get pregnant soon because this ttc lark is costing me a fortune!

Jessi I am on cd15 today too although you will probably be ahead of me thanks to my super-long cycle.

Am off to think of a sarnie related name now! If any girls result from this thread they could be called Flora???

somethingwittynot · 10/06/2012 08:42

i to am using opks this month and have cbfm to use next month. like you DS was concieved within 19 days and now were on our 4th cycle

Bazzle · 10/06/2012 09:16

Same here DS first cycle - now on cycle 3 and soon to be cycle 4 (not hopeful of my attempt this month)!

Am also very impatient!! Has anyone tried the CBFM? Pickle did you say you had one? I
Might get one for next month too if they are any good? X

somethingwittynot · 10/06/2012 09:52

i got mine for 30 quid of ebay instead of the 100 from the chemist!

somethingwittynot · 10/06/2012 12:00

i know four months isnt a long time but am starting to wonder if me or dp has secondry infertility when everyone around me gets pregnant instead of me!

jessi0343 · 10/06/2012 12:40

something didn't you mention earlier that you have recently given birth? Maybe its just your body taking its time getting back to normal, I'm sure its not a secondary infertility problem. Best to keep thinking positive! I'm sure this month will be your month!

somethingwittynot · 10/06/2012 13:14

yeah 5 months ago. i just worries me that DS happened so quickly but then we werent even trying for him. i know it will happen when its ready to happen but that sucks if you know what i mean? judging by last month AF ahould be due on the 15th but i only oved about a week ago so dont really know when it will come?!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 10/06/2012 15:20

Hi all,

Yes bazzle I got one last month, to be honest I never ov early so if I hadn't used it I would have missed the egg!

Don't worry something it's perfectly normal to take a couple of months, we were all so lucky to get pg first cycle before. I'm sure you will be pg within the next few cycles.

somethingwittynot · 10/06/2012 16:42

in a way i want AF to come so i can use my CBFM!

Em2010 · 10/06/2012 17:44

Have you had any symptoms this month something? Try not to worry (though I do too!) when I spoke to the reflexologist I'm going to see on the phone she said its actually more common to take longer to conceive your second because of the energy you use up looking after dc1.. It's always the way though isn't it? That you suddenly start to see loads of pregnant women as soon as you start ttc.

EddieIzzardIsMine · 10/06/2012 17:54

Something have you looked at the stats, they helped me when I was stressting about conceiving DS (which actually took 4 months/5 cycles) - found some here:

  • There is about a 15-25% chance of becoming pregnant in each ovulatory cycle
  • Approximately 40% of couples who are starting out TTC will conceive during the first three months of trying, and about 70% of couples TTC will conceive during the first six months.
  • Up to 85% of couples will conceive within the first year of TTC

I am off AF now so starting trying for the month (well tonight when DP gets back from band practice)....but quick question, how often do you aim to do 'it'? Given our jobs and a manically active nearly 17 month old I'm hoping for every 3 days this month, that be enough? So say, tonight and then Wednesday, Saturday etc?

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 10/06/2012 17:58

Should be enough to make sure you have a supply! I would step it up to every other around ov time just in case.

EddieIzzardIsMine · 10/06/2012 18:15

Thanks Pickles, not exactly sure when I do ovulate though, tend to just work off ewcm and do it a tiny bit more around that time, although had an ovary removed when I was pregnant with DS so not sure if an eggs being released or not each month...

Another question for everyone, does anyone in rl know you're trying?

I have told 1 friend who has a DS the same age (met her in a nct class the first time round) but she is also trying and has recently had a miscarriage and so I dont feel I can talk too much about it iyswim?
Work/my bosses also keep asking if 'we're working on the next one yet' but so far managed to deflect the question!

somethingwittynot · 10/06/2012 18:30

well im tired though thats probably due to DS though i feel more tired than normal. my sex drive has been on and off usally its just on Grin im hungry! never eat breakfast but i wake up starving now and had some random pains in my boobs maybe weeing a bit more but thats prob due to the fact im drinking more as seem to be thirsty all the time. just reminded me i was very thirsty with DS.

yeah i know we dont have to worry until a years up it just seems like forever.

SIL doesnt know we are trying and announced she was pregnant, has been asking me questions and dragged me baby shopping with her for my "advice"

Em2010 · 10/06/2012 20:02

Could be promising something, feeling really thirsty was one of my first symptoms with ds!

Have told a few people we're trying. As ds is nearly 2 everyone seems to be always asking when we're going to have another, it's driving me a bit mad tbh.

I'm aiming for every other night this week as I think I'm going to ov around fri then maybe every night over the weekend if the opk are positive and dh isn't too exhausted by then!

Em2010 · 10/06/2012 20:14

Those stats are reassuring. Thanks Eddie!

somethingwittynot · 10/06/2012 20:45

mine was weeing alot but i didnt know it was a symptom! thought i had a UTI lol

jessi0343 · 11/06/2012 08:32

thanks eddie for the stats! Very helpful! And yes I agree with Pickles to pick it up to every other night around the few days you think you may be ov'ing

I think I might get a cbfm next month, so would be interested to hear more success stories from you all!

Have told a few friends we're trying because I figure if I have any difficulties, or mc, then these are the friends that I'd like to lean on for support. Last time around we didn't tell ANYONE til after 12 weeks and I found that really hard.

something, those symptoms sound promising!

somethingwittynot · 11/06/2012 08:58

last time we announced after our 9 week scan when we saw a strong and healthy heartbeat and a little bean Grin

Bazzle · 11/06/2012 13:32

How is everyone today? CD 37 for me (out of i think 38).

I got my first positive OPK 16 days ago but then kept getting them for another 6/7days so no idea when i should expect AF really.

Frantic knicker checking going on!!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 11/06/2012 14:18

I'm watching in earnest Bazzle!

Are you going to POAS this month or see what happens?

Bazzle · 11/06/2012 14:59

I'm too scared to POAS - fear of seeing a negative!

Think i will just see what happens this week, IF AF turns up or any symptoms appear. To be honest i'm not that hopeful as the OPK's confused the hell out of me and i don't even know when i OV'd and if i actually got it.

Have you had any sympyoms yet? x

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 11/06/2012 15:02

Mental boobs and cramps. They are loads bigger and proper vieny.

Bazzle · 11/06/2012 15:06

They sound lovely! Grin

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 11/06/2012 15:51

I bought some new bras last week and Im busting out of them already! Madness.

I wonder what would happen to them if you did get octuplets?
