About to start TTC#2 - does anyone want to come along for the ride?

Hi there,

So, DD is going to be 3 in June and I'm going to be 38 two weeks later. About a year ago I wanted a 2nd DC but DH didn't. I then changed my mind at Xmas.

DH has now changed his mind and persuaded me so finally we're in agreement and ready to go.

CD1 is due this week and then we can start.

Is anyone else ready to TTC#2?

Me! We've been trying since just after Christmas, nothing yet. I'm about to come up to my ovulation week so am on full alert! My son is 3 in July - the masterplan was was to have another one last year but with one thing and another didn't quite get around to it.

Adayforthinking · 16/04/2012 20:51

Panzee, Oooh good luck this month hun. I hope April/May is a good month for both of us!

Adayforthinking · 17/04/2012 10:21

Panzee, sorry it was a short message last night - I was on my phone and hate using it to type messages!

So, here's a longer message.

I'm excited about TTC#2 but scared at the same time as my my PG with DD was pretty awful from start to finish.

I had an MC at 5 weeks and was then PG again with DD 6 weeks later. At 9 weeks I had a bleed so went for a scan and all was fine. Luckily. Then at 12 weeks I had the nuchal scan and ended up with High Risk for Downs (1:35). I had a CVS at 14 weeks but they didn't get enough blood so I then had to have an Amnio at 18 weeks.

We got the all clear on New Years Eve 2007/8 so that was a great start to 2008.

Then at 28 weeks I got diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and had to inject insulin 5 times a day (even though I was an average size 12 - so not what is normally considered high risk for GD).

This also meant that I had to be induced at 38 weeks. I was in labour for 3 days, had an epidural that only numbed half my body, had an insulin drip in one hand and a sytocin drip in the other, which meant that I couldn't even move to relieve the agony of the epidural that wasn't stopping the pain and in the end, DD was born by Ventouse. She had to be resuscitated and the Ventouse permanently damaged her eyelid which meant/means that she will have to continue to have operations (cosmetically) throughout her childhood until she's fully grown.

So, hence my panic over another one!! But the way I'm looking at it is that I will no what to expect this time with the possible high risk for downs and the fact that I will definitely have GD again. But this time I will be insisting on a Cesarean!!

OP posts:
Panzee · 17/04/2012 18:15

Wowee! That does sound like a fairly awful experience. :( I had a fairly uneventful pregnancy apart from placenta previa, so I had a section at 38 weeks - which went like a dream, highly recommended!

toobreathless · 17/04/2012 19:20

Me too!

I had my implanon out 3/52 ago. DD is almost bang on 1 year old. I haven't had a period yet so no idea where I am in my cycle (or even having a cycle yet..)

We are going for a small gap as I have decided I'd like to go part time & this would take 6-9 months to take effect. Seems ridiculous to do so when DD is approaching two years. Better to get mat pay on full time salary for no 2 & then go part time.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in 2010 & lostos left tube. I'm very, very encourage about another one and therefore possible infertility.

Aday: your previous pregnancy & delivery sounds very traumatic. Will you definitely have GD again? I have two friends who had it in their first but not second pregnancies.

Panzee: good luck for this month !

toobreathless · 17/04/2012 19:22

Stupid iPhone! Should say 'very, very anxious about another one '

Idratherbe · 17/04/2012 20:15

Can I join? DS1 is 2. I fell pregnant in the first month of trying for no2 but sadly miscarried in December. It was a complete shock as I just never considered that it would happen to me, but we both got over it very quickly and are keen to conceive again. We've been loosely trying (I.e. just shagging) since December but nothing yet. On CD6 now so gearing up for proper action shortly! Only question I have is whether we should on the basis that DH is currently taking anti malaria tablets and will be doing so until a few days before my fertile window. Whaddya reckon?

Adayforthinking · 17/04/2012 20:45

Panzee, I've heard really good things about elective C-Sections so I'm hoping that I won't get any resistance to having one. Especially after my first traumatic experience... Sad I'm still waiting for CD1 but I think it could be tomorrow - starting to get some AF pains...

toobreathless, the waiting is awful isn't it? And I'm so sorry about your Ectopic pregnancy, that's awful. Keeping everything (well not quite everything Wink) crossed that your cycle sorts itself out quickly!!

Idratherbe, welcome! Smile I know that it doesn't really help you, but when I had my MC the GP said that even though the stats show that 1 in 4 PGs ends in MC, in his experience it was moving towards 1 in 2. Which made me feel a little better. Since mine I found out that nearly ALL of my friends had had a MC at one time or another. And some will likely have had them without even knowing. Definitely no early testing for me this time. I'll wait until I'm at least past the first MC time period (5 weeks) before I do - just for my sanity!

I'm not sure re: your Malaria question. I would try googling... You're bound to find something where someone has asked the question...

OP posts:
Adayforthinking · 17/04/2012 20:48

Idratherbe, I've done a Google search and if you're the woman taking it they recommend delaying TTCing for 3 months. But it doesn't mention it in relation to just the man taking the tablets. I can't imagine it would have an impact, but I would doublecheck with your GP to be on the safe side... HTH Grin xx

OP posts:
Adayforthinking · 17/04/2012 20:49

Oooh I wonder who the first one of us is going to be to get PG - Good luck to us all! x

OP posts:
Idratherbe · 17/04/2012 22:11

Thanks for googling Aday, how very kind! Would you consider being my PA for a bit? I shall def ask my GP as I don't much fancy another MC. Mine was at 8 weeks, rubbish isn't it?

I'm sorry to hear of all your traumatic birth and MC/ectopic tales, but equally glad that we're all trying for more.

Eclairwaldorf · 17/04/2012 22:16

Marking mg place, short message as on phone... Ds will be 2 in June.... DH and I agreed to start ttc number 2 from Easter, but so far we have both come down with sickness bug. I have just missed my ovulating days, so here's to next month....Wink

Took 5 months to conceive ds, I have endometriosis and used the clearblue fertility monitor which I will probably dig out again!

Fingers crossed for us all x

Adayforthinking · 18/04/2012 07:02

Of cousre Idratherbe, if you can promise me lots of good luck baby dust as payment!! Grin Sorry to hear about your MC at 8 weeks. My BF went through that last year and hadn't even known she was PG, that was traumatic enough, but to know and then have an MC... Sad My Dsis had one at 19 weeks, that was also really sad.

Eclairwaldorf, sorry about your sickness bug hun, hopefully you've recovered now. It's not long to wait until next month! I do find that the time really starts to drag though when TTC - yawn!!

So, currently we have two DDs on this thread and three DSs. So what are we all hoping for this time? Stick with what you know or have one of each? I'm a bit undecided at the moment so I'm not going to find out and let it be a surprise as I don't have a strong leaning to one or the other. A slight preference I guess to another DD, she's such a girly, quiet little thing and I don't do boisterous. I don't have a masculine bone in my body, just like DD so I'm not sure how I'd cope with a boy. But I also like the sound of one of each. Smile

What about you ladies?

OP posts:
Idratherbe · 18/04/2012 11:54

Malaria tabs/yellow fever and TTC news flash: my GP says that you/foetus won't be affected by OH having these types of vaccine so to carry on trying as normal. Consider me relieved - I really couldn't face an enforced ban.

For the record I'd like another boy, they're awesome. But a girl wouldn't be the end of world, I do want a doting child to see me through the retirement years and somehow I doubt our boisterous little hurricane will be that person!

somethingwittynot · 18/04/2012 12:16

hi can i join please? im on the 2nd cycle of tttc #2!!

im hoping for a much smoother pregnany labour and recovery this time!

had a scan at 5+1 as bp was 93/69 and they though DS was eptopic. i was crushed by a horse just before this scan.

i had severe pain at 9 weeks so had another scan and saw his tiny heartbeat for the very 1st time :)

all through the pregnancy i was having various scans.

i had 3 partial membrane ruptres and went into preterm labour for 2 days at 29 weeks. i then went back into labour for 5 days at 31 weeks. i was given pills and steriods to help stop the labour and mature DS lungs as he was nearly delivered by EMCS at 31 weeks.

i had growth scans at 30,31,34,39+5 and then DS was born at 40+1.

i developed late sudden on set of pre-eclampsia toxemia and was induced at 39+5. i was induced via pessary follwed by the gel the next day. my waters where broken on my due date. i didnt want an epi but i had to get one for my bp of 160/110. the epidural didnt work anyway i had the drip in one hand another drip for antibiotics for group-b strep in the other and was on continual fetal monitering. after 17 hours of induced labour with just gas and air DS got into critical distress and was delivered by crash section.

i had a pph of just under 2l and ended up in the high dependancy unit on the delivary suiete with one to one critical care. i had 4 blood transfusions nearly ended up with 8 and contracted life threatning blood poisioning called sepsis. its named the silent killer. we spent 3 weeks in hospital and one week in HDU.
and i want to do it again Grin

Adayforthinking · 18/04/2012 13:45

Something, you've trumped me for an awful PG/Labour experience. I thought I was sure to be the winner!! Shock Thank goodness you were both Ok through all that. Smile

It's funny, when you tell people about your horrible experience, within a few days of it happening and people say 'you'd do it all again though wouldn't you? Wasn't it worth it?', I could honestly say (in the immediate aftermath) no, it wasn't Sad. Then they say, 'you'll forget about all the pain and want another one'.

Well I disagree with that. You NEVER forget the pain and the fear when you go through situations like that BUT eventually as you fall more and more in love with your DC, you realise that actually you would go through it all again to have the same feelings of love. But if there are ways of avoiding certain aspects (like for me, the actual birth - hence why I'm insisting on a C-Section), then I think you'd definitely them!! Smile

I hear about experiences that other Mums have had, those pain-relief free, short easy labours I do get quite envious that I'll never have that. But hey, who knows, maybe I'll be lucky this time! Smile

OP posts:
somethingwittynot · 18/04/2012 13:55

i was in the HDU critically ill and then out of my mouth came "i want another one" though through labour it was " im getting the fucking implant" Grin

yeah im hoping for a pain relief free vbac as i did induced labour with just gas and air.

im really jelous of people who had easy normal vaginal births Sad i was desperate for a waterbirth with gas and that didnt go to plan so im not having a birth plan next time apart from no epidural as they dont work they just make my legs numb. i have a constant numb patch in my leg now.

the things ill never forget was being told DS was in distress being rushed to theatre holding DS for the 1st time Grin the blood transfusions not knowing whats wrong with me. finding out im lucky to be here Sad but Grin- that im fine and DS is fine.

the worst thing off all? not being able to take my brand new DS home and be a proper mum

things will be different this time!

Adayforthinking · 18/04/2012 14:31

Absolutely Something - although I don't want the aftermath to be too different - DD slept through the night from 5 weeks - I want that bit again please!! Grin

So, already thinking about baby names. Isabella Linda Marie for a girl and Jacob Paul Jonathan for a boy. Bit of a Twilight fan... Of course, these will change drastically over the next few months I'm sure!! LOL

OP posts:
lastboxoftampons · 18/04/2012 14:59

Can I join you as well? DS will also be 3 in July. TTC#2 since Feb, so this will be our 3rd month. I'm on CD14 and worried that I'm ov'ing today and we didn't get around to things last night Hmm It's very hard to DTD with a toddler around, I'm learning! Blush

Adayforthinking and Something Sad Yikes for both of you! Here's hoping #2 arrives a bit more quietly Wine

Idratherbe Grin @ your little hurricane. We've got one of those over here too! Wink To answer the question, I'd love a girl so we could have one of each, but I definitely think I'm going to end up as a 2-boy mum!

Adayforthinking · 18/04/2012 16:37

Welcome Lastbox!! Smile You'll have to get on it tonight - apparently you still have a good chance if you BD on the day you OV. So give him your best smile and go for it!! Grin

So, do you all think that you will do things like you did before in PG, like giving up Caffeine and things like that. Or do you think you'll be a bit more relaxed second time around?

I won't be giving up Runny Eggs this time, since I found out last time, right at the end of the pregnancy, that all chickens in this Country are vaccinated against salmonella!! I also won't be giving up smoked salmon, because apparently smoking it is the same as cooking it so kills any dodgy bacteria. I also gave up my Everyday Twinings tea (one of my very few luxuries in life) for the Decaf version. I might not do that this time, but may just reduce the number of cups I have instead...

I will also NOT attend my Diabetes clinic every week if I get GD again. I used to be sat around for 3-4 hours on a Thursday morning. I am not going through that again. I will put all my sugar levels and food listings on a spreadsheet and email it to them! I refuse to sit there for that amount of time to be told 'Great - you're managing things brilliantly - see you next week!'.

somethingwittynot · 18/04/2012 19:22

weve picked out names to Grin willow-rose laragh for a girl and calen darwin lee for a boy :)

DS slept through from 5 weeks to! want that again!!

pickles35 · 18/04/2012 20:49

Hi everyone can I join too. Have a ds of one and this is our second cycle TTC. Already going a bit bonkers and ordering all manner of supplements from tinternet. I have a pretty gory birth story but will save it for another day I'm on my phone. Am considering getting a CBFM are they a lot better than just using sticks?

Adayforthinking · 18/04/2012 20:51

Ahhh Rose is my DD's middle name, well one of them. I love it. It was my Nan's first name and Marie was her middle name, hence why I'd like to use it if I had another girl.

Right, off to grab a cuppa and an early night. Might aswell get them in while I still can - LOL! Grin

OP posts:
somethingwittynot · 18/04/2012 21:11

my DS is zachary james edwin - edwin being after my grandad

lastboxoftampons · 18/04/2012 21:13

Sleeping through at 5 weeks?? Shock Lucky! DS actually slept through from about 8 to 12 weeks, but then it all fell apart when he had an illness. He's still a crap sleeper, though we're going through a particularly good phase at the minute - let's not jinx it!

Adayforthinking I was actually pretty lax about most things with #1 - had a few glasses of wine a week, ate seafood (though made sure it was cooked thoroughly), ate a bit of brie (not a big cheese eater in general though), tried to drink decaf lattes, but didn't freak out if it wasn't and didn't really bother with decaf tea. Only thing I really gave up was sushi Sad which I totally missed!

As for names...well, a girl will most likely be Francesca Catherine as it was our pick if DS was a girl (either that or Isabel at the time). There are lots of girls' names that I like though. It's boys names that are harder. DS is Tristan James. The other name we liked was Ethan, though not sure on middle name. I'm open to suggestions Smile

Pickles What are you on? Grin Month #1 I was totally relaxed, let's just DTD. Month #2 I broke down and bough OPKs, preseed and started taking Agnus Castus for my wacky cycle and put DH on Wellman's. This is month #3 and I'm armed with thermometer, preseed, AC for me, pycogenol and marilyn Glenville supps for DH! Blush
