...and I just replied to a girl on an mc thread who's had several mc's at or before 12 weeks and wondering if she should get tested to tell her about us nkcs and Mr S! Maybe we should ask for one free scan or intralipids for every referral? Hmm

Can you put me on to Waiting to Ovulate please free?

PQ77 · 26/02/2012 11:54

Any news digi? Absolutely entitled to keep yourself away from waiting room germs (i am a bit over the top and take dettol wipes whenever I go to hospital with DS and wipe everything in his room down...not to mention bathing in handsanitiser whenever we go to the gp)

On the baking theme I made a 40mg pred frenzy induced apple and almond cake yesterday and realised when I was clearing up I'd forgotten the baking powder - whipped it out of the oven and stirred in the bp - seemed to work ok!

free keeping an eye out for houses for you! There's one just near the park 3 bed but needs lots of work according to the spec - not sure if that's the one for you?

choccy great about your friends and the mr s baby - amazing how many people have problems but of course don't advertise. Don't freak out about waiting to ov - we're here for you!

eurochick · 26/02/2012 13:14

BTW, I'm trying Cycloggest this cycle (my acupuncturist suggested it and Mr S said he didn't think it necessary as my lining is good but I could try it if I wanted to). I thought I might as well throw everything at our last pre-IVF cycle. It's fricking minging stuff. I put the first one in before I went to bed last night and I am dealing with the fallout. Eugh.

free I love a bit of property porn (and know the area), so feel free to share details of your search!

digitalgirl · 26/02/2012 13:57

pq it's a virus (sore throat and ear Sad) - so they gave him AB's.
Apple & almond sounds delish! Loving the baking frenzy on this thread!

free oo - (shameless plug alert) if you do buy a place that needs work my dh does kitchens, bathrooms and refurbishment!

choccy must be v reassuring to have met someone on the other side. Understand your trepidation re: waiting to ov, good luck this cycle.

snoopygirl · 26/02/2012 15:21

Hi all,

Hope your enjoying the lovely sunny weather.

sorry about you son digi poor thing. Rashes are a bit scary so you can't be too careful. AB's should knock it out quickly.

Free good luck house hunting I love that bit so exciting. have you enough room for baby when it comes where you are now?

good luck choccy* for this month.

How ar you feeling pq how were Intralipids?

I am also going to start on the Cyclogest tonight even though lining was ok. but if no bfp i'll get off as soon as to not delay af. The Hydroxy is sounding great especially as it's an apetite supressant!! Back on pred from yesterday and 4 hrs sleep last night....slept from 10 till 2.00am and that was it apart from drifting off lightly this morning. Nightmare!
So was is the exact diffference between Hydroxy and Pred in as far as supressing immune system? symtoms etc.

snoopygirl · 26/02/2012 15:23

Any signs yest ari ?
odds are someone has to sneek through out of five on the list at moment.

lemonsherbet · 26/02/2012 15:44

Can I also join the waiting to ovulate list. I am also joining the baking frenzy. Just but some choccy cup cakes in the oven and planning on doing a vanilla frosting with sprinkles. I do not normally cook and my husband is looking a bit shocked.

Arianrhod · 26/02/2012 16:53

Nah snoopy, not a thing. Counting on one of you other ladies to sneak in that BFP this time!

Grin at the baking frenzy .. I love baking (but detest normal cooking) but for some reason decided to make a butternut squash risotto for dinner last night. Preparation time 10 minutes it said .. pah! Too me that long just to peel the fecking butternut squash (the recipe assumes you are working with pre-peeled, pre-seeded and pre-cubed squash. I can see why that would be a tremendously good idea). Anyway after OH had picked himself up off the floor from the shock of me cooking (and did the peeling/dicing of the onion, which he knows I really hate), he pronounced himself happy with result. Won't be making it again in a hurry though .. well, you couldn't make it in a hurry, ended up taking the best part of an hour and a half! Reminds me just why I dislike normal cooking!!

Been learning how to French braid this afternoon (thank goodness for YouTube) as DD is desperate for me to do her hair but as she is a nightmare to have anything done to her hair (sit still? she doesn't know what that means) I cheated. I bought her one of those doll head styling thingies from ELC and used that instead. Worked,, after a fashion, in that I can now reasonably confidently do the biz .. however I have to wonder at the manufacturers of these things. The hair - well of course it's nylon, it could never be exactly like the real thing. But there's no way my 5 year old (and bear in mind this is aimed at 3-8 years) could have got a brush or comb through this thing - even me attacking it rather vigorously for over 20 minutes with my own arsenal of brushes barely managed to detangle it, from out of the box. And this is Early Learning Centre stuff - not cheap, and supposed to be decent quality. I am not impressed! Still, no doubt she'll enjoy it, and it did at least fulfill its purpose. Sort of.

Pebbles73 · 26/02/2012 16:55

Afternoon all, Euro & Digi you are making me feel quite lazy as rarely bake a cake mine generally come from M & S. also making me feel hungry.....

Hey Free I also have no Internet access so a bit behind on everything going on here. Fab news about the flat and happy flat hunting today. How exciting buying a new place that will soon be your family home . :)

It's funny you should all be talking about the Faraway Tree as we were talking about it at work recently. I loved that book and Free and I would devour all Enid Blyton books we could get our hands on. How crazy they have changed the names, what is the world coming too!

So sorry but can't remember who said I should start swi but I have taken your advice and started today. Had a line on my ovulation stick but not sure if that is because of the ovitrelle.

How exciting Stogan look forward to hearing your news from Mr Stogan. :)

Digi sorry about ds and hope he is on the mend soon.

Had a very funny incident yesterday was trying some glasses on in vision express with my dh and an assistant when a woman on a mobility scooter lost control. She basically took the assistant out and my dh managed to grab her arm and I couldn't get away quick enough and she rammed into the side of my leg and pinned me between her and a wall of glasses frames and dragged me along. All happened so quickly, must have bedn hilarious to see and once we left we couldn't stop laughing for about half an hour! Have a massive bruise of various colours on my thigh, she didn't even seem that sorry! Still made us laugh!!

Good luck to whoever was testing this Tuesday( sorry on i phone so can't check who it was) and enjoy your Sunday everyone.

eurochick · 26/02/2012 16:58

snoopy I plan to test early and stop the Cyclogest if it's negative as I don't want to delay my period and push it into my holiday. Where are you in your cycle and when are you planning to test?

ChoccyPud · 26/02/2012 17:19

Hello lemonsherbert nice to see you again. You're off on the rollercoaster again too eh? Lots of luck :)

Heh @ cooking and baking generally. Dh is the domestic god in our house. I would not make a good housewife. I do a mean baked cheesecake but dh does most of the proper cooking. For instance, he makes lovely bread in our bread maker, be it normal bread with eg walnuts, linseeds (good for digestion...) dates etc chucked into it, and delicious banana bread. Mmmmm...

I loved Enid Blyton. But I didn't read the Faraway Tree. I remember seeing "as seen on tv" on the covers of the Famous Five books that I had and thinking (rather pedantically) that I'd never seen it on tv, why are they telling me it's on tv?! I do remember when they changed the illustrations in the Noddy books (also Blyton I think) so that Noddy and Big Ears weren't sleeping in the same bed. As to ridiculous pc name changes, does anyone know if Aunt Fanny is still Aunt Fanny?

snoopygirl · 26/02/2012 18:11

Hi euro If you take it that I ov'd yesterday then I spose I will test at 10dpo and see what occurs, which will be 6th March. When will you test?

hello again lemon good luck with this cycle I'll change the list for you as free has kindly updated to day make the most of it Smile I presume you have you results now, so shall we put a bit more info on for you?
choccy done you too.

Can't believe that pebbles sounds like some comedy sketch. She certainly didn't sound very apologetic! Hope your not too battered!!

eurochick · 26/02/2012 19:21

snoopy I will probably do quite a bit of testing - an early one around 6 or 7 dpo to see if the ovitrille is out of my system and then more until it is. And then probably around 11 or 12 dpo to see if I will stop the medication.

pebbles that does sound funny but I hope you are not too bruised!

lemonsherbet · 26/02/2012 19:26

Basically I am Ari twin- I have mthfr, thyroid sort of issues- Mr S says I am not hypothyroid but my TSH is too high for my age (think he said it was a ford cortina and needed a bit of help!!). I have a v.high NK count but because of the activation he was going to treat it has high. So I guess to make it easy v high/high NK, Mthfr, thyroid issues. I think my treatment is different to most having pred in the first trimester and intralipids through the second.

So having been told that there was nothing wrong with me I have gone from having no reason to 3 Confused.

Fantastic news on selling the flat, Free. Have you got plenty of space in your current place in case you don?t manage to find a house before baby Free comes? I think you?re thinking of moving closer to where my friend lives. It?s lovely there isn?t it, but pricy. Our upstairs neighbours have been looking there and are feeling dismayed at how little they get for their money.

In fact, digi, I think you asked me a while ago how our search was going. Well, slowly is the answer unfortunately. An estate agent told me that properties in the area we?re looking are like gold dust at the moment, and nothing suitable has come up since we lost the last place. I?ve had to resign myself to the fact that we?ll still be here when the baby comes and we?re trying to think of innovative solutions to the sleeping situation. Hope the ABs start to work their magic on ds soon. I?m also interested in the shameless plug for your dh as we may well end up buying a place that needs work. You?re north London, I think aren?t you? If so, good for us as we are looking in NE.

Suemays It?s interesting what your acupuncturist said about teachers and childcare workers and mcs. I wonder whether it?s the exposure to so many germs that causes the immune system to ratchet itself up and go into overdrive. I know that when I started teaching I used to get horrendous colds and coughs and don?t suffer anywhere near as badly as I used to.

Snoopy ? Smile at the 7pm midnight feast.

I?ll join the baking frenzy as ds and I made a delicious carrot cake the other day. I love cooking and used to have a veggie catering company. Unfortunately cooking for a family after a day?s work is much more of a chore. Can?t wait till I?m on mat leave and can get back in the kitchen and really enjoy it. I did loads of baking last time with ds strapped to my chest in a sling.

Pebbles - Your encounter with the lady on the mobility scooter sounds hilarious. I hope you?re not too battered.

We?ve just got back from a few days in the Peak District with dp?s family. His mum?s birthday is on Feb 29th so she likes to do something special every 4 years. They rented a cottage up there so we could all get together. It was really lovely and I feel quite relaxed for a change.

I?ve got my fingers firmly crossed for you waiting-to-testers. Will be watching closely for good news!

zoeella · 26/02/2012 21:11

Hi Ladies ,
Can I join you I am an old patient with Dr S at Epsom not seen him since 2010 i have had approx 8-10 early MC never got past 6 weeks apart from 1 ectopic at 8+3 weeks. Diagnosed with V.high NKs 2.8, Factor V Leiden. Have been re-referred as recent IVF was abandoned due to over stimulation, clinic said my ovaries look polysystic, but I have none of the symptoms. Whilst we wait we are TTC naturally with monthly intralipids, clexane & 40mg steroids from day 7! have not managed a pregnancy with immunes yet. Can I asks if you ladies who are on the NK treatment plan have thought about testing for Uterine NK cells or having LIT? Is it necessary ?
Thanks
Zoe x

BellyD · 26/02/2012 22:57

Hi Zoe welcome. I am fairly new to all this nk stuff but am sure one of the others will be able to offer you some advice.

coconutfeet my theory is the same as yours re: overexposure to germs and teaching. I used to get ill all the time when I first started teaching but rarely pick up bugs now. I also spoke to a friend of a friend who is a primary teacher and has high nk cells just like us (she has a little girl through Dr S and Dr taranissi combo treatment :) and she thought it made sense. Weirdly, do you remember at school when you had to have a skin prick test to see if you needed your BCG jab this girl was already immune and so was I - anyone else have that?

pebbles sorry to hear you are a bit battered and bruised after your vision express incident, but does sound funny.

Love a bit of baking and DH's birthday on Tues so cupcakes it is tom. I'll prob end up eating them all, can't stop eating since started the pred. Experiencing bit of unexplained 'roid rage too! Poor DH is being v understanding!

Good luck to everyone waiting to test this week, going to be three long days til weds for me, few little twinges, but trying to manage my own mentalling to avoid disappointment.

And huge good luck to stogan

picolina123 · 27/02/2012 07:23

funny , i was reading about this in Dr Beers book yesterday..

It may be possible to one day create an "unlimited" supply of human eggs to aid fertility treatment, US doctors say.

Researchers have shown it is possible to find stem cells in adult women which spontaneously produced new eggs in the laboratory.

Further experiments on mice showed such eggs could be fertilised, according to a study in the journal Nature Medicine.

One British expert said the study re-wrote the rule book with "exciting possibilities" for improving fertility.

The long-established theory is that women are born with all the eggs they will ever have. Lead researcher Dr Jonathan Tilly, from Massachusetts General Hospital, said this study, a follow up to one on mice in 2004, disproves that.

His team has reported finding and isolating the stem cells which go on to produce eggs in the ovaries of reproductive age women. It was done by searching for a protein, DDX4, which was unique to the surface of the stem cells. This allowed researchers to fish out the right cells.

When grown in the laboratory, the cells "spontaneously generated" immature eggs - or oocytes, which looked and acted like oocytes in the body.

The cells were "matured" when surrounded by living human ovarian tissue, which had been grafted inside mice.

Not only does this re-write the rule book, it opens up a number of exciting possibilities?
End Quote
Dr Allan Pacey

University of Sheffield

There are tight legal and ethical restrictions on research on human eggs. The same experiments repeated using stem cells taken from mice showed the eggs could be fertilised with sperm and produced embryos.

'Unprecedented'

Dr Tilly said: "The primary objective of the current study was to prove that oocyte-producing stem cells do in fact exist in the ovaries of women during reproductive life, which we feel this study demonstrates very clearly.

"The discovery of oocyte precursor cells in adult human ovaries, coupled with the fact that these cells share the same characteristic features of their mouse counterparts that produce fully functional eggs, opens the door for development of unprecedented technologies to overcome infertility in women and perhaps even delay the timing of ovarian failure."

He told Nature: "These cells, when maintained outside of the body, are more than happy to make cells on their own and if we can guide that process I think it opens up the chance that sometime in the future we might get to the point of having an unlimited source of human eggs."

Dr Allan Pacey, a fertility expert at the University of Sheffield, said: "This is a nice study which shows quite convincingly that women's ovaries contain stem cells that can divide and make eggs.

"Not only does this re-write the rule book, it opens up a number of exciting possibilities for preserving the fertility of women undergoing treatment for cancer, or just maybe for women who are suffering infertility by extracting these cells and making her new eggs in the lab."

'Potential landmark'

Stuart Lavery, a consultant gynaecologist and director of IVF at Hammersmith Hospital, said the findings were "extremely significant" and "a potentially landmark piece of research".

He told the BBC: "If this research is confirmed it may overturn one of the great asymmetries of reproductive biology - that a woman's reproductive pool of gametes may be renewable, just like a man's."

While cautioning that the cells were "some way" from any clinical use, Mr Lavery said they had potential, "particularly in young women facing sterilising treatment such as chemotherapy".

duggs1976 · 27/02/2012 08:10

Fascinating piece of research there. I'm particularly interested in eggs. Verging on obsessed. Thank you for sharing Smile

snoopygirl · 27/02/2012 09:15

duggs Dr S says 4, 8 & 12 weeks for Intralipids. Most people seem to book them in pretty quick after a bfp. Dr S has said to me before how important they were 50/50 with the steroids. Maybe you could give Louise a call and see what she thinks?
Great that you are starting again so soon x

suemays · 27/02/2012 09:21

Its a shame it's not available now! I guess in the future women won't have to go through recurrent miscarriages with developments like this. No doubt it will only be available privately though! That's why I love this board as we can share so much research.
bellyd I am starting to mental every twinge too! Deciding I am testing on wed as I will be 10dpo and only take the preds for 10 days. Not expecting a bfp though!
zoe welcome! There was a lady on babycentre who tried LIT treatment but it didn't work for her and was v expensive. I guess you have to try every route you think is best but at least with dr shehata there are lots of success stories.

pebbles your experience in vision express sounds hilarious but I hope you are not too bruised!

Maybe the teacher thing is over exposure to germs so I wonder if gps and nurses also have high killer cells?
