TTC Super Ovulation...

duggs1976 · 17/01/2012 22:21

hey ladies,

There are a few of us who are ttc after mc's, however there will be ladies out there who are also ttc for the first time or second or third without success. If anyone is on, considering or had success on a super ovulation programme then do join us. How long did it take ? Did you try IUI with it.. ? Did you have PCOS?

Kicking this off and hoping some of you will join....

Sue will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and checking to see how you get on.
Hi Jaffa the 2ww is a mare, one say thinking you might be pregnant next day thinking defo not! I always plan some nice things to do to try and think about something else for a bit.
Hi to Sydney I am also new to this thread and the treatment as due to start my first cycle on super ov and pred next month.

good luck jaffa & Sue I really hope this is your month!

Report
suemays · 29/01/2012 14:53

jaffa when are you testing? I only take the preds for 10 days as they stopped me oving last year hence why I had to test today. My af is due on thurs too so yes we are on the same day! I was feeling relaxed about it all last week but not now. Is anyone else testing this week? Waiting to get my next course of letrozole and ovitrelle until the last moment!

jaffababy · 29/01/2012 14:57

sue I'm going to try and wait to test, but I'm notoriously bad at waiting. I'll probably test on Tuesday! Which is 12 or 11 dpo (I took ovitrelle on d13 but I guess you ovulate after that sometime?)... Thursday is CD27 so AF usually arrives that day.

Thanks, snoopy. If this cycle hasn't worked, I'll be quite down about it, as we'll have to do more investigations... So let's hope my egg and DH's sperm were just testing our patience and will have produced something by Thursday! Where is everyone else in the cycle?

Snoopy was it you that said you get your scans done much cheaper in Amersham? If so would you be able to let me know where it is as would be easier for me to get to and could go on my way to work. If it wasn't you could whoever it was let me know if they don't mind? Thanks.

Pebbles73 · 29/01/2012 15:09

Sorry snoopy just seen on the pred thread it was euro who mentioned Amersham. Would you mind letting me know the details of the ace and how it works Euro. Does Mr S call you after he had reviewed your scan? Have an appointment with him tomorrow so thought I could check if he is ok with me doing it that way as well.

Report
eurochick · 29/01/2012 16:06

It definitely wasn't me who mentioned Amersham. I don't think I have ever even been there!

sue last cycle my lining was 7.6mm on day 12, but I didn't ov until day 20 so I am not sure what it was closer to ov.

jaffa I am on day 15. I ovulated yesterday. I am quite concerned about overstimulation as I was in considerable pain (I can usually feel ov but yesterday it felt a bit like an alien was trying to burst out of me!). I wasn't due to have my monitoring scan until day 18 due to late ov last cycle but it means we have missed the boat this time. Hopefully Mr S can bring my appointment forward and see how many corpus luteums there are so we can figure out dosage for the next cycle.

Pebbles I was me who said about the sonographer in Amersham. They only work after hours though but here is the link
www.amershamsonographers.co.uk/

Dr S didnt call me but sent me a new prescription. I spoke to Louise who had reviewed the scan and told me when to do the injection and when to have sex. Where are you based BTW as I am just outside of High Wycombe?

Report
suemays · 29/01/2012 16:10

Euro I asked my acupuncturist about womb lining and he said 7mm was the minimum around ovulation with 10mm being the best. He reckons that mine would have made it to 10 by day 12 when I did ovulate so at least thats one worry ticked off! Your lining sounds nice and thick too! I would speak to Louise about OHSS as it is not right if you were in so much pain.

Report
eurochick · 29/01/2012 16:24

I've never spoken to Louise apart from at the first couple of appointments. I am not even sure I have her contact details (never having been pregnant, I've never needed a midwife!). I will have to look through the paperwork.

I am going to call the office and push to see Mr S tomorrow to try to allay my concerns. I was in so much pain yesterday it was difficult to drive or even stand up straight. I pranged my alloys on the car park kerb - a car park I have used regularly for about 8 years - because I couldn't turn the wheel quickly enough as my whole abdomen was screaming. I probably shouldn't have driven in that level of pain, but I didn't realise how bad it would be until we were on the way. I don't care about the pain if it is working but I am worried about OHSS.

Report
suemays · 29/01/2012 16:42

That sounds awful Euro I am guessing you need to take the lower dose of the letrozole or maybe he will try you with different drugs such as clomid? I think you are doing the right thing by trying to get an appointment ASAP.
I have just found this on the web:

What should I do if I have mild OHSS?
Make sure you drink clear fluids at regular intervals. Make sure you do not drink in excess. If you have pain, take ordinary paracetamol or codeine (no more than the maximum dose). You should avoid anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin or aspirin-like drugs such as ibuprofen), which can affect how the kidneys are working.
Even if you feel tired, make sure you continue to move your legs.
When should I call for medical help?
Call for medical help if you develop any of the symptoms of severe OHSS, particularly if you are not getting any pain relief.

If you start to vomit, have urinary problems, chest pain or any difficulty breathing contact your fertility clinic immediately.
If you are unable to contact your fertility clinic, contact:
your general practice
the A&E department at your local hospital
NHS Direct on 0845 4647 (if you are in England or Wales)
NHS 24 on 0845 24 24 24 (if you are in Scotland).

Good bit of news for us all - I have been looking on fertilityfriend at the charts of women who have got pregnant on letrozole and the HCG shot (superovulation) and there are lots of them! Let's hope we can all join them! Most of them get a positive preg result between 12-14DPO.

Jaffa I will feel down about it too this month if it hasn't worked as we had no probs at all conceiving before I started taking the steroids in September. Its so frustrating! What investigations will you go for? I am also testing on Tuesday so lets hope we will both have good news! I was told you ovulate 24-36 hours after you take the ovitrelle. I took mine on the Tues eve and then ovulated on the thurs am as had a few cramps and did an OPK. It was nice to see a smiley face for a change as that hadn't happened for months! Damn steroids!

Whoops sorry Euro obviously didn't read the thread properly in my rush! On the subject of ohss try not to worry as it is quite rare. I have been borderline ohss a couple of times as they got 28 eggs on my first ivf cycle. My stomach was very bloated and uncomfortable and was carrying an extra couple of litres of fluid in my abdomen but still didn't get full on ohss. Most important thing the nurses told me was to drink about 2-3 litres of water a day. Hopefully you will be fine.
Thanks for the info Sue, I am in Boxmoor Hemel Hempstead so Amersham pretty easy for me.
I wondered if anyone could give some advice or if they have done this, stupidly I forgot to put the ovitrelle in the fridge as the pharmacist didn't mention it!! Has been in a cupboard so not sure I can use it now!

Report
eurochick · 29/01/2012 18:53

Thanks sue. That's helpful. I have been drinking lots but hardly weeing so I think I am retaining quite a lot of fluid. The symptoms have faded today. I've just had a few twinges today so the worst has passed. My concern now is that there are a dozen eggs in there that could fertilise. It would be just my luck that after not having one stick for years that several would in one overstimmed cycle!

(I think I am not happy unless I have something to stress about!). Thanks for "listening" to my ongoing mentalling!

pebbles I think I read somewhere that it can be kept outside the fridge for 30 days as long as you don't refrigerate. I might have got that completely wrong though! I looked as I wasn't sure there would be room for it along with all the Xmas food in the fridge but I found a corner in the end! I probably would have got it from the leaflet in the box or some random googling at a guess!

Report
suemays · 29/01/2012 21:45

Pebbles I was told by the chemist that it had to be refrigerated so ho wlong has it been on the shelf for?

Euro you can speak to Louise about any of the treatments as she is with Dr S as a bit of a go between so not just a midwife. I have phoned/emailed her lots of times! If you call the main New Life phone number you can ask to speak to her directly. I would just keep drinking water but it sound slike you are over the worst! It would be funny if you ended up with triplets!!

Report
eurochick · 29/01/2012 21:51

But I only have two hands and two boobs. ARGH!

Wink

When I went to see my friend's twins in SCBU there was a set of triplets next to them, with the mum trying to feed them all on never-ending loop. Scary stuff!

I'm not actually stressing that much now. I can think a lot more clearly now the pain has receded. What will be will be this cycle but I want to speak to Mr S so I can figure out how to proceed next cycle.

Thanks euro and suehad an appointment with Mr S today as a follow up and unfortunately I have to get another ovitrelle. They can arrange it through something called home service (think that was it) and is £20. Cost me £37 at Tesco.

Well I can stop the mentalling now. I saw Mr S today and there is a clearly visible corpus luteum on one ovary so I have definitely ovulated but apparently it is impossible to tell how many eggs were released, but he said that huge numbers are unlikely on Letrozole. He doesn't think the pain should repeat itself. He mentioned that some women have been in huge amounts of pain at ov to the extent that they carried out laproscopic surgery on them to see what was going on, only to find there had been nothing more than a very small bleed or something. So perhaps that is what happened here. He thinks it is a one off and I said I am happy to continue on the drugs and put up with the side effects (and pain) so long as they are not messing up my body. So all in all it was a useful appointment in terms of putting my mind at rest. Now we just have to wait to see what happens.

Hi all, my AF arrived this afternoon so the Superov has not worked for me first cycle. Completely peed off as was sure that I would be lucky this month!

I just bought the letrozole from Asda and ordered the ovitrelle which cost around £30. Pebbles did you say that Dr S can do it for £20???? Does that include delivery? How much do they charge for the letrozole?

Ah, sue was just going to write and say let's hold hands and test tomorrow. Are you sure it's AF and not implantation? just asking as it's quite early, isn't it? Weren't you due Thursday?

Yes, Cheryl at the office can organise ovitrelle for £20. It's next day delivery if you order before 3pm. They do letrozole as well but I don't know for how much. I paid £12 at boots last time, which isn't as bad as it used to be!

Will read the rest now and respond properly.

Hello, super ov ladies. I've name changed but it's still Jaffa (hope that's obvious!) Jaffa is my disposable email account and I put 'baby' on the end of it to sign up to MN. Well, two bloody years later with no baby it doesn't really work, and it sounds like 'babe' anyway, which isn't really me, so I've switched.

Amersham is lovely. DH and I ate at a nice hotel on the high street a couple of years back.

pebbles did you have a good appointment with mr S?

euro did you feel better having seen Mr S? Did you meet Louise as well? She's very helpful via text or email. I can pm details if you need them. And while I think having twins would be a very efficient way of justifying all this money, octomum is a step too far. 6 steps too far, in fact! You sound like queen ovulator at the very least!

Thanks for your kind thoughts, snoopy et all. I'm going to see if I have a full night's sleep and then test tomorrow. If I don't sleep well I'll be up at 4 or some ungodly hour and won't test because it might be too early for the best urine. Oh, the glamour of the 2ww.

Chat tomorrow. Sleep well, all!
