razzdazz · 08/11/2011 09:10

Morning all
I may have an evil boss story of my own later (though I am hoping not) as today is the day I have to tell them about the pregnancy Hmm.......17 weeks in.......told you all I was good at keeping secrets Wink

Bluetinkerbell · 08/11/2011 10:05

good luck razz!

I'm trying to get hold of the Belgian tax offices... grmbl... Angry need to know when our tax rebate will come in our accounts! we really need the money, half of it to pay back loans to work and PIL and half of it to survive the next few months! Of course, they're not picking up the phone! and on top of all I hate doing these kind of phone calls! DH handles all the stuff here now, but doing this is the last thing I need to do!

Hi ladies, will try and keep up to date this week but we're off on stress break that was organised through work. Gutted though because I'm entitled to 2 free complementary therapy treatments per week and the won't give me them cause I'm in my first trimester. Never mind Sad. Will read when I can and post when I can but have a great week xx

janedoe25 · 08/11/2011 13:02

Hi ladies, august boo to your af. I used to suffer really bad before giving birth. It was grim.

green hope your af goes soon so you can get back to the ttc!

dachs hope you are ok?

I'm on cd 7 I will be cracking open the opk's tomorrow .

I hope everyone is ok Smile

greenzebra · 08/11/2011 14:30

hey girlies Ive been naughty and instead of doing work Ive been hanging around in chat for a bit to long after lunch. Theres a thread ont here about counting the kicks and sids and general awareness of movements I see that several of you have commented on there. I was thinking that it would be a good idea for mumsnet to have a section in Advice on fetal movement awareness etc. Ive pm'd mumsnet towers and so has another commenter. Do you lot think this is a good idea too?

Bluetinkerbell · 08/11/2011 14:42

ah jane you remind me I should go and POAOS Wink
had a quick trip to Ikea. DH's appointment got cancelled and we needed to go there without DD so I could buy some things to make her doorway theatre for Christmas! Bought loads of handpuppets and 2 fabrics to sew the theatre out. Any know how to use a sewing machine Grin bought a mini one in Aldi a few weeks ago, but haven't used it yet... this is going to be my baptism in using a sewing machine... my mum will be so proud of me!

HUZZAH af has stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like having a bottle of champagne and I dont drink!

janedoe25 · 08/11/2011 15:56

Yay green!

blue good luck with the sewing machine, the theatre sounds fab, Ella is a lucky girl!

janedoe25 · 08/11/2011 15:58

Meant to say green that's a great idea, I will fire off a message to mn towers too.

Bluetinkerbell · 08/11/2011 16:17

hmmpf I've given up on the sewing machine already :( think DH needs to explain to me how it works... he managed to fix one of our cushions with it the other day. I'm just too tired now to concentrate on it
My mum was going to teach me before we moved to the UK, but we never got round to it...

OP posts:
TooImmature2BDumbledore · 08/11/2011 18:30

Green, please can you link to the thread? Glad to hear AF has stopped!

Blue, I got a mini sewing machine (from Urban Outfitters, that well-known purveyor of electrical goods Hmm) and couldn't make it work at all! I meant to take it back and never got round to it. I can only use sewing machines if someone else threads them up for me.

Mel, what is your stress break? It's a shame about the complementary treatments, though - boo! Aren't there any that you can do?

August, sorry your AF is so horrible - hope you feel better soon and it's just a one-off.

Dachs, what has your evil boss done now! And Razz, hope it went well telling work!

DH has bought me a massive pregnancy pillow as a surprise! He ordered it online and I couldn't think what it was, because it came in an enormous box and yet I knew that it had only cost £36. It has a special pillow case so you can wash it, too! I am so spoilt.

razzdazz · 08/11/2011 19:18

blue I am so sad that I actually take all on the name tags for dc uniforms to a local sewing shop Blush no word of a lie!!
green I think the suggestion to MN is a very good one, lets hope they listen. Great news that AF has stopped, when will you start with the sticks??
jane good luck with ttc this month, what a wedding gift that would be
too what a lovely dh you have, mine would never think to do something like that, what a fab gesture.
Work actually took the news really well......even said congratulations and that my job would most certainly be waiting for me after mat leave.

Bluetinkerbell · 08/11/2011 19:28

razz DH said when he came home I should have waited for him to explain to me, he said it's really easy! So will have another go after he explained it :)
Not giving up yet! I really would like to do this puppet theatre for DD!
Glad work reacted well!

Too how lovely of your DH! :)

Evil boss was given doctor's note stating i need to work from home one day a week and have altered hours to leave at a sensible time. Original story was that her immediate reaction to this was to get up and stomp out of the room, demanding to know the rationale and then ignoring me all afternoon and refusing to discuss it. V childish.

But then this evening it has got much worse. I was intending to work from home tomorrow as the note stated I need to work from home one day in the middle of the week (basically so i don't get too tired from the commute as I've been pretty exhausted). I am shattered at the moment. I then got an e-mail on my Blackberry demanding to know why I'd told the departmental PA I wouldn't be in the office tomorrow. I explained that I was obeying the note, that I was shattered and that this could potentially be dangerous for the pregnancy. Her response? 'The note doesn't say anything about being dangerous for the pregnancy and the wording on the note states 'with employer's permission' and you don't have my permission so you can't work from home, now or in the future'

Ummm - the note states the reason given for needing altered hours and to work from home is because of pregnancy complications so it's clearly about being dangerous for the pregnancy and the official stuff on the note might state 'with employer's permission' but that's not really something they are supposed to hide behind and quote at you - they're supposed to sodding well obey the bloody note! So now I'm sat at home in tears, completely knackered and desperately worried about what to do next.

Bluetinkerbell · 08/11/2011 19:59

Dachs so sorry they're not understanding at work! I would call in sick tomorrow, stay home and don't work! will teach them !

OP posts:
TooImmature2BDumbledore · 08/11/2011 20:00

Dachs, that is terrible! Have you got an HR department? If so, I think you should stay at home tomorrow and phone them first thing and tell them all about it. If you haven't, then perhaps you should call your boss's boss. Honestly, does she want you to be signed off sick for weeks? If she doesn't start treating you more reasonably, then you ought to go to the doctor and get signed off. Angry Angry This is the last thing she should be doing to you!

Try not to cry, sweetie - I wish I could give you a big hug.

greenzebra · 08/11/2011 21:31

dachs you rpoor thing this is the last thing you need, I think you should take you self down the doc's tomorrow and get signed off with stress related to pregnancy. She how she likes those mellons and also get in touch with HR and tell them why you are stressed, just to make it more official.

thanks for eveyones support on the chat thread, waiting for mumsnet towers to respond. If they dont maybe I will email them once a week, just like shawshank redemption!

I tell you what its such a relief not to be on AF anymore I had a celebratery trifle for tea. yep started the sticks today and only a vaint line so its the biuld up now

Bluetinkerbell · 08/11/2011 21:37

I had a very faint line as well green :) hoping the lubricants arrive soon and DH and I will have fun SWI-ing Grin

MelMal · 08/11/2011 22:19

Dachs that's disgusting. It's a legal requirement for a risk assessment to be completed in respect of your workplace and if hours are a considered risk then they need to reassess these. Your request does not seem unreasonable and I think that maybe your boss needs to know that you will hold her personally responsible should anything (god forbid) go wrong. I wouldn't be going in tomorrow. Try and get your dr to sign you off for as long as possible but go back just before your workplace can put you off on maternity leave (not sure how long before your due date they can do that). That'll shove it right up her (pardon the term)!

greenzebra · 09/11/2011 08:04

dachs they can only put you on maternity leave four weeks before your due date and this is only due to a pregnancy related illness. Other than that you can get signed off with full pay if its pregnancy related before this date so you have plenty of time to get signed off for a while. I really cant beleive she is putting this much stress and pressure on you, its disgraceful! She should know better and handle the situation better.

janedoe25 · 09/11/2011 09:28

Oh dachs she sounds like a real bitch, remember and put you and baby first if you need time off don't be afraid to take it. I would be making sure I was signed off for a while, see how she likes that.

Hope everyone is having a restful day x

greenzebra · 09/11/2011 09:48

Mumsnet have heard our cries -

^Hi all,

We can hear you

We have read what you are saying and looking into this is on our massive to-do list. Sorry to keep you waiting but we wanted to let you know that we haven't forgotten.

We will come back to you as soon as we can.

Best
MNHQ^

razzdazz · 09/11/2011 09:57

Great news green well done.....lets hope they look into it asap Grin
dachs that is outrageous!! I am truly stunned. I totally agee with everyone else and would defo go and get signed off full stop. How very dare she after all you have been through. What an evil old cow Angry.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 09/11/2011 18:28

I got a message from MNHQ too, Green: Thank you for the suggestion, we will have a look and a think.
Best wishes

Dachs, how are you today? What did you do in the end?

Grr, had another of those moments at work today where someone went 'oh, Too, haven't heard from you in ages! So you're back from maternity leave - what did you have in the end and how is the baby?'. It was over the phone, so I went um, can I fill you in on that later? I didn't want to start talking about it because I knew that my whole team would hear me and freeze and not know what to do. 2 minutes after I put the phone down, she emailed apologising and saying she was so sorry and she hoped she hadn't upset me. I was a bit upset, but it's not her fault - what annoys me is that she sits right next to someone who does know and clearly hadn't told her. She must have asked him straight away why I was so cagey, hence the email. This is why I hate working for a big organisation! Sad
