Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Fantastic news :) That makes you pretty much safe now surely? I bet it looks like a baby now rather than a bean too! How exciting. I can't wait to see mine again and I still have blimmin 12 days to go.

LAF77 · 21/09/2011 10:46

So happy for you digi

I am officially in the second trimester today. I never thought I'd see the day.

Biscuitsandtea · 21/09/2011 10:55

Yay Digi! Smile

And yay LAF for the second trimester! Is that the start of week 14?

kat2504 · 21/09/2011 11:02

Oh I thought 12 weeks was the start of the second trimester and I only had 8 days left to go :(
Never mind!

Congrats on getting there laff that is a massive milestone :)

LAF77 · 21/09/2011 11:45

Yes, 14 weeks is the start of the first trimester officially.

Biscuitsandtea · 21/09/2011 12:03

Sorry LAF am being thick - does that mean 13+1 or 14+1 is second trimester? I don't think I'm second tri yet but am 13+1 today which is a third of the way pretty much so might not be officially there but still a milestone Smile

stitchinline · 21/09/2011 12:14

Brilliant news digi so pleased for you.

LAF77 · 21/09/2011 12:48

biscuits my mw said that it begins when you have completed 13 weeks.

It's hard because I've "graduated" now and don't have another scan for 6 weeks and see the mw every month. I look a bit more preggo, but don't necessarily feel preggo. I may have felt some movements or it could just be gas!

Perhaps I need a Doppler to see me through the next few weeks.

digitalgirl · 21/09/2011 13:16

god, so I've got aaaaaaaaages to go till I'm out of the first trimester! My next big milestone will be the dating/NT scan (3 weeks away). If that comes out ok I think I might officially announce at work - and let my mum tell the rest of the family.

She spent a bit longer on my scan today, showing me the baby's head and the little stumpy arms and legs. I couldn't see the hb flickering at first then when I spotted it I realised its because it was going like the clappers. Not just blinking but flickering like a flourescent bulb. And so pleased that the measurements caught up...last weds it was only 9+1 and today 10+3.

So I got my graduation pack from St Mary's which consists of some charity lit, a pot for a sample of the baby's umbelical cord (!) and a questionnaire to complete after 'delivery'. Which just seems ridiculously far away.

LAF also wondering about a doppler.

shellshock7 · 21/09/2011 13:37

So sorry to hear your news notnow, hope you are being looked after in RL

digi that's great news, what a relief for you Smile

FYI My book has the second trimester starting on 12+1???

LivinInTheMoment · 21/09/2011 13:39

Hugs to Notnow. So sad. I really hope its a complete mc so it passes quicker for you too. Look after yourself. We are thinkin of you xx

Moomin the lighter brown discharge sounds better, i hope it clears up for you.

Digi Hooray!!

hairylights · 21/09/2011 14:19

Digi massive congratulations :) :) :)

LimeFlower · 21/09/2011 15:07

Hello,girls,can I introduce myself?
Long time lurker ttc no.1,got my BFP on Sunday, that's my 2nd one(the 1st one ended at 6 weeks in Feb 2010).Took me quite a while to recover from the shock and get another positive test.

I've just had my 35th bday so I'm on the wrong side of 35.Sitting at home today with stinking cold(sod's law that it appeared NOW) hoping that this time it's going to be fine.No pg symptoms except sore boobs(on and off).Booked the doc's app for Monday, see how it goes this time.

Looking at the other threads in conception I know I should be thrilled but I'm trying not to get too excited.Of course I'm hoping that this one will stick for a bit longer.

Judging from MN calculator my EDD is 24th of May.There's a few laydies on May antenatal.I'm too freaked out to join them(yet).

LimeFlower · 21/09/2011 15:09

ladies of course

kat2504 · 21/09/2011 15:11

Hello limeflower and many congratulations on your bfp. I bet there are a few others on the other side of 35 too on here so worry not.

LimeFlower · 21/09/2011 15:37

Thanks, kat,I can't help that I got this "magic" number 35 etched in my head.I don't know the doc I'm going to see on Monday, they might tell me it's still too early to come(as it happened the last time),but if anything goes wrong again(hopefully not)I want them to have it in my notes.

Just read May antenatal, there's another girl with stinking cold.

Biscuitsandtea · 21/09/2011 15:49

Hello LimeFlower - congrats on your BFP Smile

It's such a nerve wracking time when you've unfortunately experienced a m/c before. It takes all the 'innocent' excitement out of it doesn't it. I'm due at the end of march with no 2 but still can't face the 'due in march' threads so I do know what you mean I think. I lurk and read them but never posted on them Blush

We'll be here to hold your hand though and I'm keeping everything crossed that this is a sticky one for you. Oh, and that your cold buggers off soon too!

googietheegg · 21/09/2011 16:45

limeflower I could have practically written your post! I'm just BFP with number one too after having a mmc three months ago, and I have a stinking cold too! I'm now about 6 weeks and haven't been to the doctor or told anyone other than my DH. It's such a strange time as I want to be excited but also want to be prepared...it was so grim last time that I don't really know how to feel. I don't have any symptoms really either, just boobs a little heavy sometimes and one sick burp yesterday!

notnow so sorry for your shitty news. How are you feeling today?

digi well done you!

moomin sounds positive!

God this is all such a rollercoaster isn't it!

LimeFlower · 21/09/2011 17:15

Thanks for the warm welcomeSmile
I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow.I know that it's nothing but it was such a loooong way to get where I am and there's even longer one awaiting.Hopefully with good outcome and uneventful(for all of us).

LimeFlower · 21/09/2011 17:18

googie, when are you going to the doc?went to the pharmacy yesterday, was told to not to take anything except cough med.Stuffed myself with hot drinks, ate packet of pringles(cravings already?)and try not to worry too much.

Moominsummermadness · 21/09/2011 17:48

Welcome Limeflower. This thread is great for support when you need it the most.

Hooray digi! That's lovely news. So glad the scan went well.

I thought that 13 + 1 was the start of the 2nd trimester, but to be honest, I've read different books and magazines that give different opinions, I've seen 12+1 quoted too.

LivinInTheMoment · 21/09/2011 18:05

Welcome Lime :) Can I call you Lime? Congrats on your BFP! Hope your cold clears up.

You too Googie hope you feel better soon.

Any of you ladies get pain in sacroiliac joint?? I am self diagnosing with the help of dr. google :( Will visit my real dr. if this pain doesn't pass.

LimeFlower · 21/09/2011 18:20

No probs Livin
Don't google! The outcome is always the same-terminal ilness. My pain on both sides according to google was ovarian cancer or failure.Turned out to be a gut problem sorted out with a few tablets.

LAF77 · 21/09/2011 21:07

Still so pleased for you digi I have the same graduation pack from St. Mary's. I can't thank them enough for their care. I wouldn't be where I am now without them.

welcome limeflower and you will have lots of support here.

how are you today moomin? I don't understand your EPU procedures. At my hospital, we can self refer if we have bleeding. It just seems so random.

I have my notes from my booking in appointment last week. I've been classified as "pre-obese" which just seems unfair. I know that I have packed on the pounds after 3 mcs with lots of comfort bottles of wine and very little exercise. I am overweight, but I wouldn't classify myself as pre-obese. Measuring my cup size, I'm now an E, I think, so I have put the fat on in some of the right areas.

In my notes, I've been classed as a "high risk" pregnancy. I don't understand why, if this is because I've had recurrent miscarriage? I need to speak to them about this. I've had issues with depression in the past, but I've managed to get through the last 18 months without any ADs. I'm also anti-D, as I'm type O negative, so maybe this plays a part.

Maybe I'll have more support throughout the pg if I'm high risk, but I'd like to try to give birth in a MW led unit, and I don't think you are allowed if you are high risk.

LadyMaybe · 22/09/2011 00:53

Hi there,

LAF try not to freak out about the 'high-risk' classification. It can be triggered by lots of different things - high BMI is one, as it increases risk for developing gestational diabetes, so you'll probably be offered a glucose tolerance test to check for it at some stage (not all pg women have this). Your history of recurrent MC and diagnosis of increased clotting factor during pg is another reason - they'll want to ensure that the placenta continues to work efficiently throughout the pregnancy so you may have more scans after the 20 week one to check growth/blood flow (again, most women wouldn't after 20 weeks).
You may also be referred to have an anaesthetic review, as they'll want to put a plan in for what happens if you're hospitalised for any reason or any impact the clotting stuff might have on anaesthesia. It probably won't have any at all, but it's best to have notes about this etc.
The 'high-risk' applies to your care during pregnancy, not necessarily during birth. So along with your normal antenatal check-ups which will probably still be done by midwives either at a local health-centre/surestart centre/hospital, you'll get a couple of appointments with an obstetrician who will review everything to ensure things are progressing normally and schedule the extra things if necessary. Most likely, you'll get a review at about 37 weeks (i.e. once you reach 'term') to discuss the birth and if everything's looking hunky-dory you'll be able to choose the MW-led suite. At my hospital, there was only one labour section and it was MW-led as a default, they just called OBs if the birth looked like it was moving away from 'normal' progress. There's not much point in worrying about the birth until you reach term anyway, as if things kick-off before that you're premature and automatically need hospital help, and until 37 weeks things like breech position, etc, are still likely to change.
It's not going to be related to previous AD use.
(I was on high-risk for DS due to high BMI and history of PCOS, it doesn't take much!)

p.s. don't feel bad about the BMI, mine is likely to be worse, I was weighed after my scan last week and just about cried when I saw the number. I'm as heavy now as I was during my pg with DS.

My vote is for 13+1 being the start of the 2nd trimester, which is the 14th Week Grin

digi so pleased for another good scan and for graduating! Do St M's graduate everyone after 10 weeks or is it based on your particular history?
So a booking in appointment - the holy grail! This means you'll get your handheld notes, doesn't it? Goodness, how real. Lovely quick HB and making up the days is great (and also quite reassuring for those of us following, nice to know that a few days variation can change quite quickly).

moomin fingers crossed it's just the placenta digging in and bleeding a bit while it does it.

boodle good news that it's not ectopic, that's hurdle 1 jumped. Hope you see some progress on Friday that reassures you.

Hello LimeFlower mmm, your name makes my quease disappear, so lovely and refreshing Grin. Tooooooonnnnnes of us are the wrong side of 35, you're in good company m'dear. I think it's traditional to get a stinking cold the moment you can't take anything for it. I recommend steam inhalations or saline nasal spray to help the blocky nose and lemon/honey/ginger drinks. Double plus is the ginger might help any nausea that starts to rear it's ugly head. I've been lurking on the May thread too, I tend not to join as have had to leave several times (this my 4th pg after 3MCs following DS), but I think I might be brave this time as there are several ladies on May with a history of MCs and it's not too ''oooooohhhhh, I'm having a bayyybbbeeeee " yet. takes cynical hat off and puts back in closet

googie you may as well hop off to the dr and let them know you're pg again. As LimeFlower said, if the worst does happen, it's on record, and there might be the possibility of an early scan which some people find reassuring. Heavy boobs and sickie burps count.

Livin I'm afraid I don't even know what the sacroli-thingy joint is? What sort of pain?

Well I'm off for a scan this afternoon (am in NZ for any confused about timing of this post). I'm not too worried about it, but can't help feeling that this could be the last time I see my bean alive. Sad
Oh, in other news - I went to the opera last night - very good for distraction on the night before a scan.
And I'm wearing those seabands for nausea and they seem to be helping. Which is nice.
