Morning, mind if I join you? Shandy found me on another thread and invited me along (thank you Shandy, and have a fab hol). Its good to hear all of your stories and to be with other people in the same boat...

Desperateolide - I know exactly how you're feeling Confused

I'm 44, have just woken up to the idea of kids (always been a late bloomer :)). DP and me have been together for 6 years but never really spoken about having a family - weird how guys seem to think they have forever!

Long story short: adhoc trying for 6 months without success, now i've seen a specialist, low egg reserve, not sure if i'm even ovulating, best option is egg donor - now where next? a bit of searching online leads me to believe that a UK donor is best (albeit heavily tied up in emotional and moral stuff) but v v v long waiting lists! Or there's the option to go overseas (I have spanish ancenstry so i'm using that to rationalise) - but quite frankly i'm rather daunted at that prospect.

Have also briefly looked in to egg sharing - and DP has even suggested we swap some of his go-go-juice for eggs (bless).

I've no idea what to do next - but i feel that i should make a decision soon as the one thing i dont have is time...

Would love your thoughts as i feel in the company of great knowledge.

TIV, nice to meet you and looking forward to getting to know you all!

Italiangreyhound · 06/08/2011 20:51

Hi guys I?m back from hols.

Happy Birthday Shandy

curley you absolutely must only tell your boss as much as you want about your medical condition. I have kept all my fertility treatment secret from my work as I feel it is none of their business, totally up to you what you decide to do. All the best.

Hippy how is the new life? Get down that internet cafe!

Panshe so sorry to hear your sad news.

Lol what is going on with you, I am confused, one post said exdp was off somewhere with someone but it also sounds like you and he are trying for a baby, or am I totally confused!

Gum sorry that you got a BFP then a BFN.

BB no idea what you and your DH argued about but hopefully it will all sort out. I felt absolutely like divorcing DH the other day because of about two silly things but in my pre-menstrual state I was just so hypertensive. I?m not saying that is the case in your situation but for me I often find that I feel very upset one day and then find it is hormone-driven!

desperateoldie67 welcome. I really hope you will have some success soon. Have you read Zita West?s pregnancy books? Any of them? E.g.

www.amazon.co.uk/Zita-Wests-Guide-Getting-Pregnant/dp/0007173717/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1312593780&sr=1-3
Or
www.amazon.co.uk/Fertility-Conception-complete-getting-pregnant/dp/0751338656/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1312593780&sr=1-6

There?s lots of useful information out there, not sure if this is the best book, maybe someone else can advise. For example having sex every other day from day 8 until a few days after ovulation. Also, if you are over 35 and have been trying for more than 6 months you can talk to your doctor, and see if it would help to have any thing checked. It doesn?t necessarily mean fertility treatment, although it might mean Clomed (fertility drug) or something.

Pocket1 welcome, I am awaiting donor eggs in UK so feel free to ask anything you like.

TTT thank you for sharing your lovely birth story. Totally up to you if you have another baby but I think I would! Whatever you do, enjoy this time. The photos on your blog are so lovely.

Hairy How are you doing?

Angelgeorgie Hugs to you.

Diege, Jolly, Isaboo, Nicole Mitzimaybe and Alba hi to all*.

I got a BFN yesterday and did not even cry, I just knew it would be that way. But I had painful boobs and kept crying. Then tonight my period came on!

This period thing is pretty crap! I am crying at an RSPCA home for life advert!

OK, now I am crying at Undercover Boss, what is going on!

Put me down for a Paella, please.

Italiangreyhound · 06/08/2011 20:54

Oopse, sorry just posted this similar message on my other thread and realised for the second time it is confusing! What I meant was - I was crying a lot (and had painful boobs) so did a test, because crying and painful boobs can be one of the side effects of pregnancy, then when I did the test and saw it was negative, I was not upset at all and did not even cry!

But now I am crying at TV programmes and even adverts!

shandybass · 06/08/2011 21:01

Hiha pocket, glad you found the thread and welcome. It's a bit quiet at the moment, holiday season I guess. I'm sure you'll find it helpful. It sounds like you've made some good moves with getting investigations going. I think it's so hard when they don't give you definites like about ovulation, but I guess if they did there'd always be one to disprove the theory.

My Af has arrived like clockwork so it's back to the starting block for me. I'm 41 by the way, two dc, three mc last one in May this year, ttc 15 months. gum can you log that to the roll call bless you.

Packing tomorrow!

Pocket1 · 06/08/2011 21:49

Hi there

Thank you for making me so welome.

Shandy and Italiangreyhound, i'm really sorry to hear you news - i'm afraid i dont know what AF, DC or BFN but i can see you're sad :(

Shandy, go on hols, have a lovely relaxing time and come back full of energy to try again. Happy birthday too.

Italiangreyhound, thanks for your offer of help - its much appreciated and i do have a few questions. How long have you been waiting for a donor? have you been given any idea of when a likely donor will come up? how did you choose where to go to - i'm guessing you've gone via fertility clinic? were you ever tempted to overseas?

I've been lookin at these sites - let me know if you have any experience of them
www.altrui.co.uk/
www.growinggenerations.com/

Any advice on where i should go for egg donor advice would be great - whether that's websites or a clinic.

TIA and here's to some good news soon.

Italiangreyhound · 06/08/2011 22:31

Pocket AF - Aunty Flo - period, DC - dear child, BFN - Big Fat Negative ? negative response on a pregnancy test.

What does 'TIA' mean?

Your questions answered!

Q: How long have you been waiting for a donor?

A: This is our second go; we have been waiting a year, which is pretty much what was predicted by the clinic.

Q: Have you been given any idea of when a likely donor will come up?

A: Imminent! Wink

Q: How did you choose where to go to - I?m guessing you've gone via fertility clinic? were you ever tempted to overseas?

A: We went to a clinic I had chosen specifically as it offered the services I wanted (egg donation and embryo storage). We didn't go abroad for a lot of reasons. I wanted the child (if there were one) to have a chance to meet up with the donor if they wanted, which could not happen in some countries. That influenced my choice of UK. Also, we have a DD (dear daughter), now aged 6, so arranging child care around flights etc would have been hard. Another lady (Rowing) on the assisted conception thread had gone abroad so you could ask her about that if you pop onto that thread at

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/1193042-Assisted-Conception-and-all-the-bits-in-between-volume-7?reverse=1

Q: I've been looking at these sites - let me know if you have any experience of them
www.altrui.co.uk/ - NO EXPERIENCE
www.growinggenerations.com/ - NO EXPERIENCE

Q: Any advice on where I should go for egg donor advice would be great - whether that's websites or a clinic.

A: It's a huge task, I made an excel sheet and filled it with names of clinics and their contact details (which I got from the HFEA website www.hfea.gov.uk/ and perhaps some from Googling around! Smile ).

Then I called each one and asked, do you do egg donation, do you have any restrictions (age, whether having one child would stop me getting a donor through that clinic - only one said it would) and also costs etc and wait times. At the end of the day the clinic we chose for our treatment was the one what was the best for all this BUT we tried first with my own eggs and failed then went on to try donor conception through that same clinic.

I would ask on a few threads and get advice. I did try looking for a donor a tiny bit myself but to be honest I felt I would rather go with a clinic. I think it costs about £450 to go on the waiting list with a clinic. If you go on another clinic's waiting list it would also be a fee but then you would have two clinics with you on their waiting list and if it failed at one you would be able to go to the other. Sorry if that sounds negative but if I had the money that is what I would have done. I am with Care, which is part of a chain of clinics around the country.

Happy to answer any questions but would just caution that I did what I did for specific reasons. I wanted the child (if there were one) to have a chance to meet up with the donor if they wanted, which would not be able to happen in some countries and that influenced my choice of UK. If that were not a consideration of yours I would say Spain is a good option as virtually no wait. Also, the donors are not necessarily Spanish, they might be from Eastern Europe. In Spain donors can be paid so that is why there is little wait.

All the best. Grin

Pocket1 · 06/08/2011 22:47

Italiangreyhound - thank you so much for ALL that info.

Funnily enough i've just been on the Care website - i'll give them a call and chat to someone. They have some good threads on their site too...

I'm in two minds re UK or overseas donor - i do know about the anonymity thing and that is a huge factor. Having said that i have a bit of Spanish blood in me so i could potentially get my head around a Spanish donor. i think i'll have a look around online and do some thorough investigation - and i might even do my own excel spreadsheet too.

I'll let you know how i get on - and best of luck to you.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend - here's hoping for sunshine tomorrow!

TIA is thanks in advance btw (by the way ;))

Pocket1 · 06/08/2011 22:48

i'm clearly new to that - i meant to end my last post with Wink

As for me, AF is still missing. Fertility Friend has taken away my O day, because it's been too long. I think that maybe I didn't ovulate too, but why did I have a temperature rise? God, it's confusing. Oh well, I shall just wait patiently for Af. And I suppose I'll start doing opk's. Hopefully it'll be along before I see the fertility specialist.

Last night we had friends over for dinner. They are a gorgeous couple, and have chosen to remain childless. They have a great lifestyle - they get to do what they like all the time. They have fabulous overseas holidays, a very active social life and no ties. For a moment there, as they described their last holiday in South America, I felt maybe I should just forget about all this baby making etc, and just look forward to a time when we'll do what they are doing...but I woke this morning, with my almost 3 year old sleeping beside me, and remembered how totally life affirming and wonderful it is to have children...so back to thinking all things baby-making!

You'd think, though, that the 1 a.m phone call from the hospital, to ask us to come and get our 18 year old son, who had gotten very drunk, was very sick and was then ambulanced to the hospital, might put me off having another(getting up at that hour when I'm about 62?Might be difficult)!

I hope he has a massive hang-over today! Silly boy. I'm not at all upset with him, just glad he didn't give himself alcohol poisoning, or try to drive, or that it wasn't drugs(though I know alcohol is a drug too). I was awake at 2 a.m waiting for Dh to bring him home, thinking, "I was expecting to be awake at this time of day with a baby, not my 18 year old"!

Welcome, Pocket1, and hello Italian - glad you are back.

Hope everyone else is alright...Smile

Hello everyone

Nice to see you back Italian did you have a good holiday ? I really hope your will be hearing good news soon.

Hello Pocket1 Hope you come to a decision soon about what you are going to do.

Gum are you still waiting for first af after your mc ? I hope your ds had a sore head Smile

I only bled for about 6 days and am starting to feel better physically. We are going to have a big distraction from tcc, dp is applying for full custody of his 3 year old dd. Unfortunately social services have become involved with the mother.

No sunshine here today,so the house work beckons especially as we have got social services coming here Thursday and Friday. Now they have got involved apparently I need assessing !

Curlylox · 08/08/2011 13:17

Panashe sounds all quite intense and hope your assessment goes well with social services.
Angel you enjoy your day off, you deserve it.

Ladies if you would please post your details and I will update accordingly but will wait to do so until I've heard from a few of you if that's ok......

Hope everyone s ok? Love to all xx

hopefulgum · 09/08/2011 00:22

Hi everyone. I hope the SS visit goes well Penashe.

NIce to hear you had a chilled day AngelGeorgie.

Helloooo...Hippy, when you gonna drop in and say hello?

Well, I'm still waiting for forst Af after the miscarriage. I'm now on day 40 of the cycle, with no sign of Af or ovulation. Starting to get very pissed off, and want to get back to normal. It's rediculous. After the first mc, I ovulated on day 21.

According to my blood tests I haven't gone straight into menopause, but I still worry that I am....Confused

dottyaboutstripes · 09/08/2011 15:59

Hi there - hope it's ok to jump on board. I need to confess I've been lurking for a while and I recognise Gum - if I say Fruitloop you may know who I am? We haven't done anything to prevent pregnancy since ppaf at the beginning of June last year and no hint at all of a BFP...strangely for the past few cycles I've had mega pregnancy symptoms ( and I recognise them after 10 pregnancies, 6 babies) and I can't understand?? Is this what happens in the lead up menopause? It's so frustrating and upsetting too. Still having regular AF, no funny business there. Dh and I are both 41 and were hoping for that one last baby

Diege · 09/08/2011 17:24

Hello! Sorry for going awol...have been mega occupied with having the 4 of them at home and haven't had much time at all to get on MN.
Good to see some newbies and of course hear from the oldies Wink I haven't had a chance to read through properly yet but will do, dds-permitting!

hopefulgum · 10/08/2011 00:13

Just hopping on to say a great big Hi to Dotty. How exciting to see you here!I've often wondered if you were a Mumsnet mum.

I'm sure you aren't heading into menopause. Is it possible you are having chemical pregnancies? Or perhaps high progesterone is giving you the symptoms? Sorry I can't be more help.

I have to run, have to go out to work today. It's a huge inconvenience, but I guess I just have to get on with it!Smile

TinaO99 · 10/08/2011 11:07

hi ladies - haven't been on for ages as I started a new job in June so have been concentrating on that but thought it was time I gave you an update!

I'm now under the 'care' of care in Nottingham - had an initial scan which showed I was still producing eggs (although not many follicles) and everything looked ok. A few weeks ago I also had a hycosy scan to check the viability of my tubes which unfortunately showed that although one was clear the other was either blocked or had gone into spasm because of the dye, I am convinced it's a blockage but either was I was extremely upset.

Hubby and I had a discussion and we are still going to give IUI a go as the Dr doing the test told me that one tube was enough so next week I have my follow up consultation to discuss next steps. I am hoping he puts me on fertility drugs as my worry is that I am only ovulation from the side that is blocked and if I get the drugs it will stimulate eggs from both sides? Any information or experiences from anyone has been through this or knows more than me gratefully received!

I am still hoping we conceive naturally but nothing at all is happening and I'm getting more and more worried which isn't helping :-(

haven't really read back on the forums much but Gum I am so sorry about your MC :-(

hi to everyone else and hope you are all ok?
