Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage? There is plenty of support, hand holding and problem-shared-problem-halved going on over here. All welcome to join in.

Thinking of you today kat and hoping you have got some good advice re: medical management.

cep · 25/04/2011 13:10

thank you ladies, i know it's all been good so far so i don't know why i'm worrying, i suppose i am a worrier anyway. Blush

wiw has it all settled?

mummya good luck for scan.

collie hope you're enjoying trip

wombatinwaiting · 25/04/2011 13:14

Thanks cep - Haven't had any more discharge since last night and small cramps seem to have eased off. Still worrying like mad of course....

MummyAbroad · 25/04/2011 13:53

cep I told close family a long time ago. I figured if I mc'd I wouldnt keep it a secret for them, so why not have the extra support?

WIW My scan is in the afternoon (again! I never learn!) so that will be quite late at night in UK time. My private doc is doing it so I know I will be able to ask as many questions as I like. I phoned around blood clinics last week asking if they do tests "for Downs syndrome" and was told that no where in Costa Rica does - I am going to have another ring round and ask if they do "PAPP-A" and "hormone free beat HCG."

I also found out the cost of doing CVS in Miami - £1125!!! (Its £500 in the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley St) Shock Shock Shock

Found loads of good nuchal info here for those who are interested:

cep - please don't stress. You're in a good place and no need to worry.

In answer to your question, no fly note means I shouldn't have any problems claiming back the trip on my travel insurance. Delighted not to have gone and enjoying the r+r at home.

wiw - please relax too. As the other ladies have said "pink goo" at some point seems to be the norm. If it makes you feel better though then have a scan but am sure all will be well.

Occasional mentalling here too. Am the "baby" of this thread and hearing kat's news has made me panic as to what could happen / have happened to my bean since my scan 2.5 weeks ago. My nuchal scan feels so far away and there just isn't enough going on with my body for me to feel pg. I think it'd be neurotic to have another scan without just cause and it's not long to go but am terrified. I know that a positive first step was that there was a heartbeat but anything could go wrong.

LaraMi · 25/04/2011 14:03

Good luck mummya - as always thinking of you xx

Blackkat · 25/04/2011 14:43

Lara I'm three days behind you, so you're not the baby. Smile Try not to worry ( I know that's easy to say) but you have seen the heartbeat. Also not everyone gets MS and all the rotten symptoms, doesn't mean a thing. ((hugs))

I'm terrified as haven't plucked up the courage to do anything yet, no midwife appt booked, no scan arranged, not on the list, nothing. Terrified.

cep thinking of you

kat If you are lurking I hope you are doing ok xx

wiw I've had some pink goo to on a couple of occasions, but am reassured that it's normal; doesn't help the mentalling though does it!!

Mummya hope all goes well this pm.

to everyone else

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 25/04/2011 14:59

kat I'm afraid I can't help re the medical management as I had erpc after my mmc but I am thinking of you and hope you're coping x

mummya best of luck for the nuchal scan this afternoon, hopefully you won't need the blood tests x

wiw glad to hear things have settled, hope everything stays calm for you.

LaraMi · 25/04/2011 15:21

Blackkat - your email actually made me laugh... you've done nothing?!!!! Bless you.... Please, please - start booking your appointments... I don't want you to miss a 12 week slot! I actually really wish I could have another scan but am also too terrified. Have you had any "real" symptoms yet? Big hugs to you...

Blackkat · 25/04/2011 18:30

Lara my GP knows, that's it - but here you make your own m/w appts.
I'm waiting to get my bad day (today) out of the way.

Symptoms: Been a bit sick, not much, sore boobs, want to eat eggs and potato waffles all the time (had to get up in the night last night to eat them), and am sleeping 12+ hours a day (when not eating eggs and waffles Grin)

Thanks for the nag - DH thinks I need to get on with it too.

PinkFondantFancy · 25/04/2011 18:54

Hello all just popping my head around the corner.

WIW sorry you're having a scary time with the pink goo, glad it's cleared off. How was your girls' weekend away?

blackkat just wanted to say - I have eaten potato waffles with fried egg and baked beans every day for about a month now Grin

Good luck for today mummya

cep I'm a fellow worrier too :(

MummyAbroad · 25/04/2011 19:13

baked beans!! wish you hadnt said that Pink! I now have a massive craving and cant buy them over here - boooo!!!!

OP posts:
LaraMi · 25/04/2011 19:17

I think we're all worriers on this thread... Getting through one stage is just an excuse to stary worrying about the next stage.

Didn't realise today was your bad day, Blackkat - but look, it's nearly over (just in time to ring the mw tomorrow!) I'm being selfish - just want you on the list with me!

Minnie74 · 25/04/2011 20:23

Hi

Just trying to catch up

kat so sorry for your sad news. Take care of yourself. x

mummya hope the scan goes well.

I'm 6+1 today which is 3 days longer than last time. Felt a bit sick today but don't know if I'm pretending and just hungry!

Went to gp about the brown stuff. I've got another UTI like last time. She didn't give me anything as it's so early on and i've no symptoms other than getting up for a wee in the night a lot! Now i'm worried that the UTI will cause another mc or if i get antibiotics they will-AAArgh what should i do! Confused Anyone else had this happen with a good result?

blackkat i've done nothing either. Think it's a it early for me-bound to jinx things if i do. Although i have seen 3 lots of 3 magpies today Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 25/04/2011 20:52

minnie Argh at the uti! Someone on here also had one early on, i can't remember what she did but maybe she's still about? I would drink lots and lots of water and unsweetened cranberry juice or take cranberry capsules (you cam get them from the healthfood shop)

Sorry mummya!! the cafe round the corner from me makes their own-maybe there's a recipe lurking on the Internet? How did the Easter eggs go by the way?

PinkFondantFancy · 25/04/2011 20:54

Also Minnie I don't think a uti can cause MC and I think there's antibiotics that are safe to take in pregnancy-maybe your GP wants to see if the UTI clears up by itself? Seems weird not to prescribe antibiotics though.

MummyAbroad · 25/04/2011 23:14

minnie sorry cant help with UTI info, hope someone will be along soon with good advice. What about starting a thread and see if that gets a quicker response?

Pink you are forgiven Smile. Yep, I think I need to add it to the list of homemade stuff. Easter eggs were yummy but a bit melty (couldnt be bothered to learn to temper the chocolate) DS had loads of fun decorating them too.

So I had a good scan - heartbeat fine, measuring ahead of dates now but I am not changing my stats - I am far too sure of my charting powers Grin and earlier scans were spot on. Nuchal measurement was 1.26 which is well within range. Nasal bone seen. All good. Now I just need to convince myself that everything really is OK. Its very hard to trust so little information, and info that is just an "indication". Very different from the amnio I had with DS - where you get a 100% guarantee that everything is OK.

thanks as always for all your well wishes and support xxxx

OP posts:
wombatinwaiting · 26/04/2011 05:54

Great news mummya Grin and measuring ahead of dates too! (although understand you not changing the stats). Will you still go ahead with the blood tests or happy to leave as is with the good results? I am v Shock by no baked beans! Do you get visitors to bring them along with PG Tips? Grin

Thanks everyone for your well wishes - nothing more since sun night so relaxing a wee bit now but by heck, these beans like to keep us on our toes! I think it was just a reminder to take things easy - weeekend in Beirut was great fun but full-on - we reckoned we walked about 16 kms in the 30 hours we had on the ground there.... Beirut itself is a fantastic city and the restoration work they've done is amazing although it's a bit strange to see the odd bullet-scarred and mortar-shelled building amongst everything (together with lots of armed police and roadblocks). We also took a side trip to Byblos, the oldest inhabited city in the world which was incredibly interesting. Quite cultured for a girls weekend really!

blackkat - mmmmm re: eggs and waffles! I had a doorstopper of an egg mayo and ham sarnie yesterday - can't get enough of it and have one in the fridge now at work to nibble on later. Sorry to hear about your black day and hope you've got through it today and will be contemplating your booking in appointment..... how's your dad doing?

Minnie - I'm with pink on UTI advice and thoughts. There are pg friendly anti-biotics out there and I'm certain there's no connection re: UTI and mc - hope you get to see a doc soon.

Hope you've all had fab Easter weekends and that for those of you back at work, enjoy your 3 day weeks you lucky things!

morning ladies.

mummya so pleased you had a good scan. Grin

minnie i thought i had a uti at about 7 weeks that made me bleed a bit, the gp's were happy to give me antibi's just incase it was, and it sorted it.

aMuminwaiting · 26/04/2011 08:28

Hi everyone
I was told to pop along here by LaraMi and looks like you all give each other great support and kippers around the head!

I only found out I'm pregnant week ago. I should be 6 weeks exactly now. I lost my first baby at nearly 22 weeks last year and then my second at 11 weeks 6 months later. My consultant wanted me to have a six week scan and then one every four weeks but he retired when I was trying for this little one how selfish) and no one's in a rush to get me scanned any time soon...well everything stops at Easter Confused

I'm thrilled to be pregnant again but every trip to the loo is frightening. Even if it's only a few spots here and there I do NOT want to see any blood this time. I'm on progesterone pesseries and aspirin. Is anyone else on the pesseries? They're making my bits so sore and when I pee in the morning it all seems to make a run for it! I'm not sure anything stays in. Also, for anyone on it who's quite far along, how did you feel when you stopped taking it? I keep worrying that the second I stop using them t 14-16weeks I'll start bleeding.

PinkFondantFancy · 26/04/2011 09:22

Fab news on your scan mummya!

Hi aMIWI am on progesterone and aspirin too. If you can stand to, find putting the progesterone in my bum much better-I know it seems unlikely but it's actually easier and no messy discharge and no burning or cystitis (which is what forced me to give it a try that way in the first place.....) I'm at 18 weeks and haven't stopped taking it yet, but hoping clinic will tell me I can pack it in this week. They assured me the placenta will have taken over weeks ago so coming off it should be fine but I have to admit it will be a bit scary.... Feel free to message me if you want any more info!

wombatinwaiting · 26/04/2011 09:41

Hi and welcome aMIW - lots of good support and haddock slapping available here. I'm so sorry to hear of your two losses.
I am also on prog supp and asprin too - just 1 x 400mg and 1 x 75mg daily. I think my ob/gyn said to stop taking them at 16 weeks - as pink says, it's really to help the placenta get settled so after this time I don't think they actually do anything...... I am using the front passage and yes, there is a lot that comes out however I'm assured that what is needed is transferred. I've not had any of the problems of soreness / cystitis (yet!) and again, feel free to message for more info - pink was a great help to me when I got started.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 26/04/2011 10:47

Woohoo for mummya! That's very good, and a lovely low NT measurement as well. X

aMuminwaiting · 26/04/2011 10:57

Oh thanks. I've not me anyone else who's been put on these so great to meet two people! I thought about the butt option but I got hemorrhoids with my first pregnancy and get flare ups quite often so even though I am prone to cystitis (oh what a wonderful specimen I am) I thought I should stay with the front door! I had to got to the loo ten times between 8 and bedtime (where does it all come from?!) but I'm hoping that if I keep drinking tons of water and cranberry juice I should keep nice and flushed out. Isn't being pregnant super glamorous? I wonder why they don't mention all these things on tv programmes.
