sevendwarves · 08/03/2011 20:54

Sorry waiting, must have been crap getting AF after your honeymoon, did you have a good wedding and honeymoon though? At least you can enjoy plenty of newlywed SWI! :o

Bit of an odd question but am I ok to have a smear test whilst ttc, or do I need to make sure I book one in the first half of my cycle? Does it hurt, will I feel like SWI afterwards? I'm almost 25 so I've just had a letter saying that I need to book my first one, didn't have to worry while ttc DS!

WaitingforStork · 08/03/2011 21:05

Hi Seven at least it wasn't on honeymoon! The wedding and honeymoon were brilliant and in the next couple of days will be able to get back with SWI again (not much chance of conceiving in the first week but still lots of fun to be had!)

Not sure about the smear test while ttc, might mention it when booking your appointment as they would have a better idea. It doesn't hurt much, I'm in Scotland and we get them from 21 so have had a couple. Bit uncomfortable and cold for the second one as the hot water wasn't working so the nurse couldn't warm up the speculum up.

Thanks waiting I'll ring up and ask. I know they don't do them when you're pregnant but didn't know if that's the same as knowing you could theoretically be pregnant IYSWIM.

thinking you're lucky, my 2ww is 17 days long!

peapop · 08/03/2011 21:45

Sevendwarves I've just booked myself in for a smear this Monday. A friend who's 10 weeks was told at her booking in appointment she should have tried to have one before/whilst TTC. Apparently it does no harm whilst TTC so you should be fine. I would probably mention it at your appointment though just to be on safe side.

sevendwarves · 08/03/2011 21:46

Thanks peapop

Just added my stats!
Can I just check is cycle the number of months TTC? Still getting the hang of all the lingo... Confused

Daiso · 09/03/2011 08:06

Happy Wednesday people!

Just a strange one. I know it's 1st month of TTC, but since SWI i have convinced myself that i have nausea, stomach cramps, funny taste in mouth - all sorts of pg symtoms yet i'm only approx 7/8 dpo. Anyway, I had a 1.5hr nap yesterday afternoon ( had day off work!) and was awake about 4am not being able to sleep & feeling like i had period pains. I also did not eat much yesterday - just didn't fancy anything.
However this morning i feel completely normal - no sickness, no pains, no funny taste, wide awake etc etc so i'm now feeling a bit deflated like i know already AF is coming next week and i KNOW it's v early and still in first month but because i have spent the last 8 days feeling totally weird, i was holding out some hope. Someone tell me to get a grip!!! I know i'm being OTT as it can and does take some people months and months, but i think because it's 1st month, i got tooooo excited Blush

Sorry for the me me me rant - but no one in my circle of F&F know we are TTC as didn't want all the questions so have no one else to talk to.

sevendwarves · 09/03/2011 08:44

Oh dear daiso, welcome to the 2ww! We're all that bad!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 09/03/2011 08:49

Whoops sorry londongirly. Smile

MickyLee · 09/03/2011 08:56

daiso ı was the same last week. All I thought about was being pregnant and because of that I was feeling sick and had extreme tiredness.. Although it would more or less impossible to have a BFP ( done about 3 HPT already Blush)

BlueCrane · 09/03/2011 09:21

Hi daiso try and stay calm if you can! If I've learnt anything in the last couple of months its that my body can play SO many tricks on me and until I see two lines on a peestick then it's not confirmed! I've also realised that being on the pill for nearly 4 years has meant I'd forgotten so much of what was 'normal' about my cycle when it was natural, so to speak, so it was so easy to read into everything that felt different - which of course it would've been as it had been withdrawal bleed rather than an actual AF the whole time on the pill! Hang in there!!

Nothing to report here this morning really except that I gave DH a full schedule for SWI this cycle as he was moaning he was gettign confused about it all! Wink

seven thanks for the order, I think you are officially the bus conductor! I'm happy to take on tea lady responsibility so will get baking and be around with the tea and cake trolley shortly!! Smile

LondonGirly · 09/03/2011 10:00

youremindmeofthebabe no worries!!

Daiso, it is our first month trying as well. We are swi every other day, in the hope that we might manage to conceive first time. I know that there is every chance that won't happen but it is still exciting and hey you never know!

I have already agreed with DH that I won't test until AF is late but we'll see how well I manage to keep to that!!

Tanif · 09/03/2011 10:09

BlueCrane how about some chocolate brownies? I'd forgotten just how much of a sweet tooth I get whilst AF is around!

spidookly · 09/03/2011 10:28

Daiso - agree with BlueCrane try to stay calm and keep as busy as possible. In all likelihood it's a done deal one way or another now. So you might as well be zen about it until you can find out.

Think of it like exams results - the exam is over, so you might as well forget about the results until just before they arrive. Then when you get them you can go and get drunk with your friends and snog some cute 18 year old boys :o [nb you don't actually get to do the last bit!]

seven this advice doesn't apply to you - it's early in your cycle right? So go and get that smear done ASAP. I'm a big believer in not acting pregnant when you're not sure you are, but I wouldn't risk a smear test if I thought there was a chance I could be pregnant.

If you miss this window it could potentially be another year before you have your first smear. Get to it! :o

orangehead · 09/03/2011 11:07

I was like that last month Daiso, I felt a really tired and just awful then it went away, think it might of been a bit of bug. But its so easy to get your hopes up over every symptom. Easy said then done but try and keep occupied (must remember to take my own advice).
Seven - agree with spidookly as you early in your cycle see if you can get appt as soon as, explain you ttc so would rather have it done when you know you def not. Where I am they is an NHS womens clinic that do all that rather than gp and they usually get yo in within the week. They not painful at all just a little uncomfortable.

sevendwarves · 09/03/2011 12:06

Thanks for all the advice, the nearest smear I could get is the day after I (should) ovulate, so although the egg could (hopefully) be fertilised it couldn't have attached yet (in theory)! That'll be okay won't it? I'd rather do that than book it for next cycle and then end up going without as it's my first.

maybebabyR · 09/03/2011 12:14

Hi seven I have just booked in for my first smear next week too, and it is around the day I ovulate. I am sure it will be fine.

Probably being silly, but I am really nervous about having it!

Tanif · 09/03/2011 12:29

I should probably book in my first smear as well... I turned 25 six months ago but we're not allowed to take time off work for doctor's appointments and there's no CASH clinic in the area.

peapop · 09/03/2011 12:34

Just had delivery of my first ever set of ov tests off ebay! The pooting begins!!Smile

Anyone know when it's best to test?! I'm sure I've read somewhere that you have to wait til mid afternoon??

sevendwarves · 09/03/2011 12:41

Smear tests all round then!

peapop yes the LH surge which triggers ov usually occurs during the day, I tested late afternoon when I used them. I don't bother now, my last 2 cycles have been exactly the same so I've obviously settled down after coming off the pill.
