A continuation of so many threads spent waiting to ttc that I've completely forgotten what number thread we're on.

If you're waiting to ttc, stop by and say hello! Smile

Hello all the new people! Good to have some new company for the waiting ride.

I think it's funny when we all discuss the list of things we need to get done before having children, as it makes me really feel like there absolutely can't be a 'right' time to do it. DP and I are both freelance creatives earning not much for London (which doesn't bother me as I've never known anything other than the insecurity of that way of life) and if we waited til we had a house or a car or a kitchen or could afford to get married we'd most probably be waaay past our fertile years. The best we can hope for is being emotionally ready for it I think.

My mum reminded me that I was born into a 1 bed rented flat while my dad was still a musician, and they managed. I think you just do, don't you? (I'm hoping so anyway....)

AstroZola · 02/02/2011 21:21

Hey all, been away seeing family. This website moves so freaking fast!!! Phew!!

Hello newbies...

I've come to the conclusion that there's no right time to have a baby. It's going to be ever such a long time before we can afford a house. We still have debts and if i waited until the 'right time' i would be over 30 and i now want my first before 30. And most likely it wouldn't be the 'right time' anyway!!!

I'd like us to get married but we can't even afford a ring or the wedding. If we had to save for that as well the baby would never come. We're not that financially secure and it'll take a while for that to change. So i think sod it. I was born into a violent relationship that ended in divorce before i was one and my Mum and i lived in a hostel for a while. Then me and my 2 younger sisters were brought up by my single Mum. We're all great people and we now have an amazing, loving family.

I just need my OH to come on board. I'm now not certain that he's so keen on the idea at the moment. I made him watch just one episode of OBEM and he really didn't like it.

We also had 2 cats - 1 has been missing since October - the other is almost 3 now and we have a 2 year old dog too. All brought up since they were youngsters. We call each other Mum and Dad too...ha!

AstroZola · 02/02/2011 21:26

Ooh...forgot to mention...things to do before i TTC hopefully in Oct/Nov :

  1. Qualify as a RVN (Registered Veterinary Nurse) - hopefully by Autumn.
  1. I would like to get married...
  1. Go on holiday
AmandaCooper · 02/02/2011 21:53

Lol Astrozola why on earth would he like it? Let's face it, it's a horror shop!

AmandaCooper · 04/02/2011 07:48

Hmmm I could pass on the birth bit I reckon.

Thanks candyshop, he should be out of hospital today and he says he's feeling better (though he said he was feeling better before he had the heart attack as well).

And I definitely agree with others here that there's probably not really a "right time" to have a baby, sometimes it is better to just take the plunge. Although there also seems to e lots of irresponsible people too (or maybe this is me being jealous again?) who get pregnant without even a second thought to their circumstances and how it would affect a little baby growing up.

Does anyone else have their baby names picked out yet? Me and OH plan to have 4 and already have 3 we like (though will probably change our minds once they actually arrive!)

JustShaggingForNow · 04/02/2011 13:08

Oh My God! Things move so fast on here. I have been super busy at work (not enjoying that at all!!) and haven't been able to get online during the day at all!!

Welcome to all newbies, I've fired up the BBQ and thrown on some saussages and burgers for our Friday lunch and the barmen (who are they again?!)are mixing mojitos as we speak!!

As for our list for pre-TTC. It looks a bit like this:

  1. Save money (not on my salary but hopefully DH will get a nice bonus in March and some can go into a baby fund!!)

  2. Go on holiday. Skiing in March and then India is being booked today and so we will hopefully be TTC on that trip (we'll, DH said we could try on that tripo when we were going to be going in November but as that was the only thing holding us back..... I am assuming that it's now April/May. Not going to tell him that though.... Wink)

  3. Run the Bath Half marathon - 6th March (4 weeks and counting!!!)

  4. Get fit - see above, think I'm probably in the best shape I have ever been so hopefully TTC won't take too long!!

DizzyKipper I already have a long(ish) list of names that I like. Something I have been compiling since I've been on here. DH has pretty awful taste in names so I think I'll present him with a list and then he can choose them from that!! I also have a file on my computer with pictures of nurserys that I like (God I am a sad case!!!)

candyshop · 04/02/2011 16:14

dizzykipper great news that your dad will be going home today Smile

I'm another one who already has a list of baby names Blush can't help it! My DP isn't taking it seriously at the moment at all though, he prefers to think up names that will sound funny with our surname Hmm so hopefully he'll get a bit more into the whole thing once I'm actually pregnant!
I'm also doing crazy things right now like browsing travel systems and maternity wear, seriously need to get a grip! Grin

minipie · 04/02/2011 16:25

Hello to AC and all the other waiters! Can I join please?

I dropped in and out of the previous "waiters" threads but it was always such a long way off for me that I didn't keep up.

However it's now a lot closer... I am hoping to start TTC in May THIS year, woo hoo.

DH has always been a bit reluctant but I get the impression he is now actually happy with the idea (if a little terrified, but then I kind of am too... ).

Anyway I took my last pill today, aiming to get my body back to hormonal "normality" by May. Condoms in the meantime I guess Sad but since DH hates condoms that might give him a bit of extra enthusiasm about TTC when May comes round!

Why May? Well, couple of reasons, first we have a big holiday planned involving anti malarials and diving (not good when pg) and also we need to find somewhere more baby-suitable to live...!! (but I guess we would have 9 months to find somewhere, right?)

JustShagging I don't know if you'll need anti malarials in India but watch out if so as they are not preg-compatible I think...

candy I too have a list of baby names! I wave it at DH occasionally to scare him.

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 04/02/2011 17:03

Been a few days since I checked this thread..

I have gone baby mad in the past few months - despite trying to be all sensible and waiting until marriage and finances are sorted, I've been finding myself addicted to OBEM on 4OD website, browsing baby clothes in M&S, thinking about names and even started researching nurseries. Heart and body blatantly saying "lets get on with it" but head is saying "not quite now".

Maybe I can win my head over if/when we eventually get engaged.... that's almost the same as being married, right???

My list goes something like this:

  1. Get kerb dropped outside house to allow car parking on my drive (oh and makes prams easier too)
  1. Pay off credit cards
  1. Get engaged/married
  1. Lose weight - 4st to lose this year... although kinda thinking what's the point as it will pile back on when pg anyway??
cherrypiew3 · 04/02/2011 20:29

Evening all,

So glad i found this tread its making me feel so much better about the things i find myself doing.

Candyshop yesterday i found a moses basket on the mothercare site which i loved and was even thinking of getting it which was a crazy idea we have ages until we ttc.

jobcar i also need to lose some weight but then i think like you i am only going to put it on again.

We all so have names planned although dh does keep dropping the odd silly one in.

DancingThroughLife · 04/02/2011 20:50

Hi all, am new to 'waiting' and I'm a bit late to the thread but can I still wait with you?

I have an 8mo DD, and me and DH already know we want another. We want a fairly small gap between them (18 months min.) so in theory should start TTC this month. However I still haven't had my periods back, so I'm tapping my feet until then. Also, DH wanted the second one on the way before his 40th birthday which is this summer. No pressure then Grin

We have started thinking about names already (I don't think we've stopped since finding out about DD), but we've completely gone off our favourite boy's name since we've had her, even though we'd loved that name for soooo long.

We wanted to wait until finances were stable and we were in a proper house not a flat before TTC#1 but then we thought we may as well get on with it!

AstroZola · 05/02/2011 12:34

I also don't own my own house. I rent a lovely house in a fab neighbourhood though which is full of young families. I'm thinking we'll just get on with it as soon as Autumn comes around and providing i get a 'yes' from OH.

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 05/02/2011 12:45

Hey Ladies,

Been a hell of a week. Still had niggling pains and now got a bloody cold :( hope thats it for illness per se this yr.

DP knows its only 1 more menstrual cycle and then we can start TTC Grin hes okay about it esp after my hospital stay which makes me very happy he doesn't like to talk about it but thats fine for me hehe

DP & DD have gone shopping for a couple of hrs for my birthday pressies - although already know what DP is buying me which is fine as is something I really need.

Weather here is not very nice so i'm staying in the warm with a cuppa T.

bebejones · 05/02/2011 14:04

Hell of a week here too!

Doctors reckon I have bruised the cartilage & bone in my hip when I fell over a few weeks ago & we won't know if the bursitis is any better until that has healed! Feel like such a prat for falling over, it was so ridiculous!

Weather here is vile too & I have got DDs cold so feel like death!

Looks like I am going to my consultants appointment on my own this week. Maybe I should see this as a good thing...think of the things he 'could' say to me about TTC!! Wink :o

Sorry to not do any personals. I have been reading but my brain is mush & I can't remember who said what! Blush

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 05/02/2011 18:43

Ahh BebeJones Have the docs given a timeline for your hip to recover? I have trochanteric bursitis in both hips and bloody hurts so feel your pain.

You've prob said before but what is your consultants appt for?

bebejones · 05/02/2011 18:50

Got another couple of months for the bruising to heal & then see what's going on. Nothing I can take apart from paracetemol which doesn't help really! Poor you having bursitis in both hips, it's so painful!

Consultants is for my MS. And I'm 100% going on my own, which sort of sucks, and sort of doesn't Hmm

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 05/02/2011 19:06

theres pros and cons to going on your own - the one big con is not having someone else there to take in all the information?!

However, at least the consultant can't scare your DH with TTC info lol.

Not sure what DP thinks about us TTC soonish as he doesn't like to talk about it - did say at the hospital when it was a possibility that I could be preggers he said he will need a pint Grin

Would try and convince DP to start TTC on valentines but pretty sure he'll look at me like this Shock

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 05/02/2011 19:15

Right come on ladies what do we need to do to get our DP/H's to get in the mood for TTCing.

I'm thinking choc and bed of roses lol

bebejones · 05/02/2011 19:26

I'm thinking several pints and whisky chasers! Wink

AmandaCooper · 05/02/2011 20:09

Some restraints and some viagra? Grin

OP posts:
AmandaCooper · 05/02/2011 20:11

Minipie it is nice to see you by the way. May is quite close, you'll be updiffed long before me no doubt. You don't have to use condoms all the time - you've got TCOYF haven't you? I've been using FAM for ages now, it's really easy.

OP posts:
DarciesmumandTTC2 · 06/02/2011 16:47

Afternoon ladies.

Shame about Amanda Holdens news today.

Am hoping to get my coil removed tomorrow :-)

minipie · 06/02/2011 18:04

Afternoon!

Getting DH in the mood for TTCing... Hmm well more sleep is the usual requirement, combined with a few hints during the evening. Mine never seems to notice what underwear I've got on Hmm

Valentine's day next week. Anyone doing anything?

Amanda I don't want to risk FAM really as if I got pg now it would really bugger up this holiday! I know it can be really reliable if you know what you're doing but I don't. Need to build up my fertility knowledge methinks. I never did buy TCOYF, maybe now is the time? Sort of hoping the TTCing just happens quite easily (when the time comes) and I don't have to get into charting etc...

bebe I hope your consultant appointment goes well and he is positive about TTCing soon.
