TTC a 2011 baby

Hi all
I didn't want to hop on a bus because i'm not really aiming for a specific month to have a baby in so i thought i'd start a general "trying to conceive a 2011 baby" and see if anyone wants to join me :D

OP posts:
notreallymyname · 23/11/2010 19:12

yeah, the wait seems more difficult this time - I'm already becoming convinced I have symptoms. And it is true with #1 I needed to wee constantly practically from conception (went to the doctor thinking I had cystitis or something probably only about 4/5 days post ovulation!) so I'm not sure if it's wishful thinking or genuine.

It's funny the things you talk about when it comes to pregnancy, childbirth and babies Grin

MrsVidic · 23/11/2010 19:21

well I think DP and I are officially trying- well just shagging without protection anyway- we did for the first time last night but I didn't do the legs in the air thing!

I also have just been offered an interview for a job I applied for ages ago- part time so I'm going to go for it but keep trying. I only work 17 hours over 2 days so i wouldn't take long on mat leave.

If it helps anyone the biggest sympotom I had with dd1 was tiredness and travel sickness.

However ever since my periods came back after dd1- only 8 months ago (as I bf till she was 1) I have been sure I have been pregnant for my last 3 periods- done 3 tests which were neg (while I knew I couldn't be pregnant due to contraception) - as I am always 1 week late and get morning sickness for 2 days Confused

Me thinks it may be psyco symatic Blush

Anyway AF is due at the end of the month/ begginning of dec so we shall see!

Iwish · 23/11/2010 19:29

Haha I know! There would be no way we would be discussing when we had sex, cm and boobs if we weren't ttc!
I think every month 'ooh my boobs are sore' or 'i feel sick or have been to the loo 3 times in a hour-I wonder if' no such luck yet I'm afraid.
I've found myself getting v impatient this month, wondering why some people get pregnant doing it just once and I'm on month #4! anyway enough of my moaning :).
How long have you been ttc now? Sorry I know you had a break after your mc.

notreallymyname · 23/11/2010 19:43

Don't worry, it was ages ago and though I was sad I was okay with it. MC was last July 2009. If it had been as simple as just not using contraception I'd have started again much sooner. But, erm, I'm on my own and using a known donor. I couldn't be bothered with the practicalities and my cycle lengths weren't anywhere near as regular as they had been before.

I'd gotten pregnant first time I tried it last year. Only tried once since this summer, and it wasn't stressful because I kind of knew that I'd missed ovualtion and should have met the day before but made an attempt because hardly any chance was still more chance than none. So Friday was the second go.

I mostly go on cm, with temp just really to check I ovulate in the cycle. (and hopefully to confirm I might be pregnant :) )

eggybrokenoff · 23/11/2010 20:17

Hello can i join?

Been lurking on the ttc threads for a while, and scaring myself silly!

I'm ttc no 2. DS was a happy accident, wasn't ttc at the time, so it's a bit of a shock for it not to be happening straight away this time round! Have read too many sad stories and convinced myself it's not going to happen easily this time!

Just got AF after 3 cycles trying, so still early days and i need to chill out a bit i think.

V confused about predicting the right time though, and what i should be taking/doing to increase chances. Also v confused by acronyms!

catmad2010 · 23/11/2010 20:38

Hello eggy! Grin Welcome to the thread! I get very confused by acronyms too...took me weeks to work out what AF was (thought it must mean period but couldn't work out the A and F!)! Grin It's hard to keep on going I think, I'm constantly convincing myself it will never happen Hmm I am currently driving myself insane symptom spotting, which I haven't done for a couple of months....argh! Confused

I also don't think you can go too much by "the right time" as I know lots of people who have concieved when technically they were at the "wrong time". I've started drinking more than I was before I started trying to conceive, kind of ironic when I was trying to be healthier! Blush

notreallymyname · 23/11/2010 20:46

The best predictors of fertility, if you have a fairly normal cycle/no problems to take into account tend to be cervical mucus (cm) and your cervix.

When your body is getting ready to ovulate you produce a different type of mucus, that's friendly to sperm and helps them to get up the cervix and to survive for longer. It's slippery, wetter, and at best looks pretty much like raw egg white. Having sex then you have a good chance of conception. At the same time, your cervix feels more open, higher up and softer and that can be a good indicator too if you don't mind checking it out.

Neither of those require that you keep records or take your temperature (Basal Body Temp = BBT) or take anything. And if you haven't been trying long you probably don't need to worry too much about it all, just give it time to happen :)

Iwish · 23/11/2010 20:46

Hi MrsV looks like your af is due same time as mine. Fingers crossed it doesn't arrive! You might not be quite as mad as us lot yet then with the legs in the air. :o
notreally hopefully it will happen quickly for you again :) I try to monitor cm but I seem to be a bit rubbish, pretty much looks the same to me lol.
Welcome Eggy! Yeh I frightened myself looking on the net too, I've figured I should be banned from google. Wish I could chill out a bit, think I get more frustrated each cycle lol.
Maybe you should try opks? They are selling cheap ones on eBay, there are like 50 for £8.99, you can do 30 ov tests and 20 early pg tests or you can mix the numbers up. I think I'm going to try them. Are you taking folic acid?
Sorry all for the massive post!

eggybrokenoff · 23/11/2010 20:55

Oh yes taking folic acid - meant whether I should
take pregnacare, or supplements to aid conception or
anything.
Trying to avoid opks or anything as I know I will get
obesessed and think about nothing else!!

Iwish · 23/11/2010 21:12

I'm not sure really but I have been told that pregnacare is quite good, gives you all the needed vitamins including folic acid. Think that's why I avoided everything for my first few months but I'm going to try it to make sure I'm not missing anything :)

Can any of you tell much by your cervix? Mine never really seems to change apart from about a day before af where it seems to close a lot more.

onadietcokebreak · 23/11/2010 21:52

Can I join too.

Ttc DC2 - just had mirena out- no idea when af due

notreallymyname · 23/11/2010 22:01

I can tell from cervix, though I'd still rely on cm more. I use a mooncup and the difference is noticable between ovulation and af points in my cycle, I think it's different though as I've already had a baby and 'open' is more obvious than it was pre-baby.

Zippyette · 23/11/2010 22:52

Hi Peeps

Just seen this thread, new to MN and acronyms so will see how i get on!!

Been TTC#1 for 3 months, I'm CD8, so judging by the ovulation calendar need to SWI and cross fingers! Pretty much the same thinking and timing as catmad Been off the pill since August, started trying beginning of Sept. Apart from charting LMP and potential OD (ovulation day- couldn't find the acronym!!!), not changing anything other than amount and timing of SWI. Have set myself a goal of not doing anything extra till after Xmas, then might invest in a fertility monitor thingy from Boots!!!

All the best peeps x

eggybrokenoff · 24/11/2010 08:49

What is lmp? Also I can't figure out the calculator
how am I meant to know luteal phase? It tells you
to work it out from when you ovulate, but if I knew
That I wouldn't be using the calculator!!! Can't
believe now that I managed to get pregnant by accident
last time!

Iwish · 24/11/2010 11:06

Hi Eggy. Frustrating isn't it! I think the default lp is 14 days but i think until you know when you ov and when af arrives it's difficult as you have to count the days between of and af starting.

Zippyette · 24/11/2010 22:13

hey Eggy
Lmp is the date of the first day of your last period. Once you start recording these you can start trying to work out the length of your cycle from day one to the next day one (start of your next period).

I hear what you're saying how am I meant to know luteal phase? It tells you to work it out from when you ovulate, but if I knew that I wouldn't be using the calculator!!!

They seem to be relying on the idea that you would know when you're ovulating because you've been getting ovulation pains/monitoring your EWCM or temp, etc, so it can then tell you which days to SWI!!!

Hope that helps, sorry if it seems like i'm telling you how to suck eggs!!! Grin

ElJuegoDelAngel · 24/11/2010 23:36

Hahaha, that is so true - if I knew when the damn thing was I wouldn't be falling for the charms of such mis-named applications!

Hi everyone, and welcome to those who have newly joined!

So. I got my period today. Woop - my 6 year stint on the implant has not caused infertility (recent google induced paranoia...), and better still, I think I may have noticed the pain that was my ovulation time! [proud face] There was one night a couple of weeks ago where I had a definite cramp in the right side of my stomach.

Anyway, next problem is how do I work out when ovulation/next period would be due to happen??? guess it'll just have to be lots of sex to cover all eventualities Wink

Don't think I could cope with any cervical inspections at this stage - just had my first ever smear test a couple of weeks back and that was traumatic enough for the time being!

Iwish · 25/11/2010 13:00

Hi ElJuego hope you are ok. :)
Is this your first month off the implant? I had to guess the first month I came off, when I was on the pill I was every 28 days, first one after the pill was 27 then 25 then 26 and this time I have no idea lol. If i were you id just have lots of sex haha. We did every other day from about cd10 to cd22 i think. And just to annoy me I have been having cramps from 10-12 days before af actually arrives until it ends!! First few months I kept panicking. Still don't know why it's happening.
What was your smear like? I've got to have my first ever one in the next few weeks.

catmad2010 · 25/11/2010 16:56

Iwish - I know the question wasn't aimed at me however regarding smears...I am the smear queen! (dubious honour!) been having them since I was 20 (so 11 years), had loads (resulting in loop diathermy and bits being taken out as precancerous), nothing to worry about at all. It's a bit undignified if you haven't had anything done like that before but it feels like a sharp sort of period pain that lasts about 30 seconds, but it's nothing to worry about. It's a good start to getting used to people poking about down there when you get pg! Grin

Iwish · 25/11/2010 18:02

Hi Catmad thanks for the info , and sorry about your experiences of it. suppose it can't be any worse than 15 days of period pain I get lol. Think the Thought of bring half naked with something being poked up my muff you know what kinda freaks me out a little Confused. Like you said tho I'll be prodded and poked when pg.
So how r u? When's af due?

BettyStogs · 25/11/2010 18:34

Hello everyone

I am new here - TTC#1. Hope you don't mind me joining this thread.

I came off the pill around April, but my cycle is not back to normal yet - basically I'm having a period every other month - does this mean I am only ovulating alternate months? I've thought about using OPK or fertility monitor but if I'm not ovulating the month after my period I'm not sure if they would work. Worried that I've messed my body up by being on the pill for so long.

Trying to be relaxed about it all but difficult not to obsess. Hopefully now we can obsess together!

catmad2010 · 25/11/2010 19:24

Welcome BettyStogs :) I'm useless when it comes to ov advice but I'm sure someone else will be along soon with more constructive advice....

I'm ok thanks Iwish. 2 more of my friends announced they were pg today....am a little green devil Envy but obviously pleased for them...it's sooooooooooooooooooooo hard though! AF due on 6th Dec, my mysterious symptoms have gone but am going to SWI tomorrow (or tonight if can persude DH Grin). Having a "bloody hell it's never going to happen to me" day. Bah.

Honestly it'll become like second nature having things stuffed up there Wink, I am now onto having a nice relaxed chat whenever I go...amazing what you get used to being a female of the species! Grin

Hope you're well! When's your AF due?

Iwish · 25/11/2010 21:05

Aaagh won't let me post!!!

ElJuegoDelAngel · 25/11/2010 22:24

Hey Iwish, yes, it's my first month off the implant - got it taken out end of october, so that's bang on 28 days since then with my period. Can't remember what pre-implant period was like regularity-wise as I never paid any attention to it! Never could work out what the point was in charting it...

Smear test was just a bit uncomfortable - my pelvic muscles (think that's what the doctor called them) kept pushing the thingymybob back 'out' which led to her going for a 'longer' one [face of horror]! (apologies if too much information here... Wink) Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing - don't pregnant people try to do pelvic exercises of some description??

Catmad, best of luck for tonight and tomorrow - I'll think positive thoughts for you! it WILL happen Smile

Iwish · 26/11/2010 08:02

Hi ElJuego i was exactly the same before I went on the pill and being in the pill just made it regular. You will just have to do lots of SWI this month then Wink. Made me laugh about the smear lol, not a laughing matter I know but just made me giggle. And yeh I think you are supposed to do pelvic floor excercises during and after pregnancy. Have you been taking folic acid?
