Having difficulties ttc#2?

After chatting on another thread, I've discovered that quite a few of us are having trouble ttc#2.

It's difficult to find much support in RL; people tell you that you should be happy as you already have a DC [I really am!] and unless they've been there, they don't really understand why it's so upsetting not to be able to get pregnant again so I've created this thread so we can share and we have a place that we can rant/vent/moan/support each other......

Sorry for the unimaginitive title ... marketing is not my area of expertise Smile!

FYI, I'm 36, DH is 38, we have DS who is just over two and a half and we have been ttc#2 for 13 months.

We have had bloods and SA on the NHS and an internal scan and AMH privately and so far, our status is unexplained sub-fertility. If I don't get my BFP this time, next month we'll be having another SA and HSG privately.

Duff I'm 37 and have been ttc almost two years without a BFP in that time.

We're unexplained but I have had low-ish progesterone levels on both my CD21 test. But I'm on Clomid 50mg although my consultant thinks I ovulate naturally. And apparently I have good egg reserves for my age ... it's the quality, I'm worried about.

Good luck, Daisy. I'm hoping for two targets this cycle [three and the clinic would probably abandon treatment for us] and two will raise the odds. I find out on Thursday morning when I have my first monitoring scan. When do you have your first scan?

Duff, hope the metformin results in a BFP for you soon.

Lycees - my first scan is monday. I am on 100mg of clomid - seems a lot compared to you ! hope I dont overstimulate ! yikes. Best of luck.

Lychees · 10/03/2011 17:46

Daisy, I think I was already ovulating naturally so got a small dose. I know ladies on 150mg.

My first scan was fine so I am feeling more positive this month. It's the first time I have had a more "normal" scan as previously I only had one or two follies. You should get a number of them then only one or two should grow and become dominant but the only time I've had this is when I was on a natural cycle so it seems like finally Clomid is having the desired effect. It's made to think that perhaps we shouldn't move on from IUI just yet if [if I don't get my BFP, obviously, which hopefully I will ... fingers-crossed].

Good luck for Monday.

Hope everyone is doing alright.

Hi girls just dropping in to wish everyone luck with the various treatments.

No news this end, just trundling along on my billionth cycle!

Lychees · 16/03/2011 17:23

Thanks Points. How have you been?

Daisy, how's it going? How was the scan. I have just come back from my third scan and I have one leading 17mm follie and two smaller ones. So my third IUI is booked for Saturday morning and I have acupuncture afterwards to hopefully help a bit towards getting us that elusive BFP.

daisy18 · 16/03/2011 20:07

Hi Lychees, I had my first and only scan on monday, I had one leading 18mm follie and 1 smaller one 12mm. Consultant said the smaller one was unlikely to ovulate so will probably just have one this month. Had the IUI done today so just waiting now. Not sure what the final count was after washing as apparently they dont get the full report faxed to them from the andrology dept until a day later (nhs admin cut backs apparently! ) I too wish I had also done accupuncture, I might try next time I think. I thought the whole process was pretty straight forward and painless to be honest, I'm just disspointed clomid didn't really increase our odds by producing more eggs so feel we may not be any better than last month!! :(. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

lychees I'm still a bit down at the moment, not helped by seeing so many pregnancies including sleb ones in the papers everyday! Just wish we could do some kind of treatment, still waiting to hear when we are going to get IUI.

Hi,
Sorry I havent read the majority of this thread... not enough time on my hands. Im trying to conceive #2 and am going to try pre-seed lubricant. I still have no periods :o/ (DD 15 months) but wont to give myself maxium chance of conceiving when that little egg decides theyre ready to pop out!
Also using ovultion test strips, but Im yet to have a convincing positive/im ovulating result with them.
Good luck to all x x

Have been very bad and just took a test, am 9 days Post ovulation. Was negative. The tests were the ultra sensitive ones so I think its a negative this time. Will wait and see though.;( . Have a wedding tommorrow so wanted to check so I know whether I can have a drink or not. Feeling very fed up today. Never expected it to work first time but still dissapointed.

thumbwitch · 25/03/2011 14:07

Hello lovely ladies - haven't been on here much, I do apologise - just wanted to let those of you who might remember me know that I finally have success! Not wanting to get too excited just yet but got a positive test last Tuesday (10d ago) when I really wasn't expecting to because we hadn't done the deed at all since previous period (no appropriate mucus). But when i was 3d late, I thought I better had do a test because I had some pills from the doc that I wasn't allowed to take if pg!

So there you are. It appears that my last "period" probably wasn't one, I think it would have been an implantation bleed (unless anyone knows of anyone who got pg from sex on the 1st day of their period?) but I won't know for "sure" until i get my dating scan done on 6th April. It's a bit different here in Australia, it seems - although I had to laugh, I was in the system for checking my fertility - the scan was originally booked to check for PCOS because my bloods were showing hormone levels that could be borderline PCOS (or I could have been newly pg, that's the other option!) so I've just had to have the request form changed and kept the date.

Am still a bit gobsmacked, tbh, and still a bit nervous too because of age and last MC - so fingers crossed all is well (and it's not twins, another concern! Although I'll take healthy twins over no pg)

Hope you're all doing well and sorry for not reading back Blush

Lychees · 26/03/2011 07:03

Daisy, I'm so sorry about your BFN, hun. Sending you hugs. Will you have another go at IUI next month?

Congrats, Thumbwitch. I hope you have a H&H pregnancy. My SIL had a "period" one month, then the following month she was late and got her BFP. At the dating scan she was four weeks further than she should have been so the "period" can't have been a period. She gave birth to my [healthy] niece last Thursday.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 26/03/2011 07:08

oh that's great for her Lychees :)
HOpe you and everyone else get your BFPs soon

pointsmakeprizes · 27/03/2011 18:05

Hi Girls. Daisy how are you? 9dpo is very early to test, hope you still have a good chance this cycle.

thumbwitch congratulations, really great to here some good news after such a long time. And goes to show even if AF shows it still ain't over! Was your AF any different the last time?

Keeping my fingers crossed for lychees and duff. As for me, not sure if I have ovulated yet if I haven't done so already I should do within the next couple of days, my cycles are around 35 days at the moment.

thumbwitch · 31/03/2011 06:08

I feel really bad now that I posted early. And a bit stupid. And very sorry to say that it appears I am MC again :(

To answer your question, PMP, yes the period was a little lighter but not much - probably only 1.5-2d instead of its usual 2-4d. Not so much less that I really noticed, or if I did I would have put it down to advanced age and worried that I was starting to become menopausal! (Not that I have a clue what menopausal periods are like either, tbh)

Ah well, onwards and upwards - will wait another day and hear back from the medics about my combined results (scan and HCG) and then probably have a large gin or something.

Sorry to be the bearer of more sad news on this thread though.

Lychees · 01/04/2011 07:32

I'm so so sorry about your news, Thumbwitch. What an awful thing to have to go through. Thinking of you and wishing you the best.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 01/04/2011 07:45

Thank you Lychees. Am resigned now - scan showed gestation sac of about 5w, HCG levels were correct for about 4w gestation - since last sex was about 7w ago, that's not good. Even though the MW who phoned me this morning was desperate to try and give me some hope that "conception doesn't happen immediately, you know" - I do know - it almost certainly doesn't take 2w afterwards though! Anyway. Another scan next week to confirm the situation but I already know, 99% sure that it's gone.

Just have to keep trying!:)

HalleLouja · 01/04/2011 12:03

Sending you huge hugs Thumbwitch

AIBU to want to slap my nearly 30 year old cousin whose April Fools was to pretend on FB she was pregnant. Shock! Was not impressed in the slightest. Think she needs a wet sea bass.

thumbwitch · 01/04/2011 12:11

Hallelouja - i'd go for a tuna, actually. Or possibly a grouper. Maybe even a whale shark (although it'd be hard to hold one of those). No, I have it - a cod. A biiiiig codfish.
(thank you)

HalleLouja · 01/04/2011 12:15

A shark would be the best thing though I would need help to lift it. Make sure you are being looked after and don't worry if you put your DC in front of the TV for hours to get a break Grin

pointsmakeprizes · 01/04/2011 13:44

thumbwitch so worry to hear your news, sending you a big hug. Don't know why these things happen to good people.

louja how are you getting on? I don't think fish is enough for your cousin - may have to move on to a crustacean - a lobster claw perhaps. It's bad enough having to see daily announcements on the news feed without ones pretending to be pregnant as well.
