Quick rant: two of my friends are American, but living in the UK and have been for years now. But they periodically go through phases of posting anti-Brit stuff on their FB statuses. One this morning: "Xxx is off to the scariest place in the world today - a British dentist"

It REALLY annoys me! It always makes me want to shout something along the lines of "If it's so rubbish why are you still here" but then I end up feeling vaguely racist!

I have thyroid ishoos, Cass. Spoke to Dcotor as was about due my annual check anyway and they like to keep a close eye on it when diffed. I don't think I see anyone about the pregnancy for ages either. Apparently the midwife will contact me for booking in appt about 10 weeks? I asked for Midwife's number just in case any problems (like when I had a bleed when diffed the first time) and the bitch receptionist said "We don't do that any more"! What the fuck?

I don't get the US antipathy to British medical care either. Like during the election when there was a big hoo haa about how shit the NHS is here. Well, yeah, it's not perfect but at least not like the US system where millions of the poorest people have zero access to basic healthcare services.

Re. US healthcare - it's scary if you Google for medical advice: you realise that 90% of the stuff out there is from people in the States that clearly need a doctor but can't afford one so go to online forums for advice. One poor fellow had a pan of cooking oil over his arm and wasn't going to hospital

The way I see it: Brits can moan against their own country; so surely that human right extends to legal aliens. MN has a few expat threads of Brits who live in US / Europe and they bitch (as well as praise) about those too. So, surely, you would have to shut all the expat Brits up as well if you want the Yanks here to shut up?

At the risk of being flogged: let alone the US, which obviously has it's problems, NHS is appalling compared to the rest of Western Europe. Bearing in mind Britain is the world's 3rd or 4th strongest economy. This is not to say that UK does not have other advantages. But if something is objectively the case, why not say it. Ask any, any expat in the UK they will tell you the same about the NHS.

Repeat point: check the threads of Brits in America: they'll say such and such is great, but hey, the Yanks are too religious, or Germany is an amazingly comfortable country, but people are really boring, etc. etc. Surely a German / American etc has the right to draw similar conclusions about the UK? And in my experience most people actually do not bitch about the British people but about services, which is more than you can say about e.g. rants against Germans.

Salty my last diff was from SWI 3/4 days before ovulation. I read something about a study that concluded that 3 days before ovulation was the day most likely to result in a diff, so menkul away luvvy.

True, it is rude in the extreme, I'll agree with that, and I really never do it. But I stand by the right to discuss if within context, hence the above rant. But reacting with 'go back to where you came from', I am afraid I do not agree with. Otherwise, we'd all have to clean eachother's countries up from a lot of moany people...

I think if you go to live in another country, it makes no sense to moan about (using the example of me moving to Croatia, in a fit of post holiday enthusiasm ) 'The Croatian Health service' as that sounds as though I am making a comparison with England. If you move, you move and take the rough with the smooth. I could moan about 'The health service' whilst there, in the same way I might if I lived in England still. However, I come from a family who moved around all over the shop and very much were of the opinion that you move somewhere and become part of the local community rather than an ex-pat community. Staying 'English' has not ever really been a priority.

Which is why, when I grow up, I am going to be a Croatian Lady.

He, he. Well said. Though I still stay on the side of the occasional moan. I mean, you would be weird if you thought everything is perfect in the country. Be it your own or someone else's. And if everyone else in Croatia is moaning about something, and you thought it was all perfect, they'd just think you were weird would they not?

Or maybe I am just moany. Violence in America, strict rules in Germany, insularity of Croatia... But that's the point, we are all the same in that everywhere has positives and negatives, and expressing an occasional moan is human! Although going out of your way to say it everyday is rude. Or indeed to claim your own country is perfect in everyway and better than others would be not only rude but downright silly.

P.S. do agree about integration. Can I moan against people who move and live in the insular expat community?
