Looking for recommendations for a record player? My teenage daughter has added one to her list, I have no idea where to start.

Ideally one she can play normally but also connect to wireless headphones?

The ones with speakers built in can damage the vinyls as it makes the needle jump from the sound . If you can afford a Bluetooth one and buy separate speakers it’s much better. Ikea speakers are ridiculously good for the money and some can be linked up.
I’ve got a Philips record player that’s also a cd player, it was cheap in record player terms but still £300. There’s lots of decent ones that are cheaper. There is a wall mounted one in nearly got seduced by instead, but we’d ordered the Philips one.
its a kick starter so purchasing is slightly different, but people have received them and said they are quite good. It’s very pretty!

A bit random, but does anyone know the best supermarket/online groceries which is the best first shop/signup deal? Looking to get a bunch of food for the food bank and would appreciate a bigger discount as on a small budget, so can get more food.

Such a shame I just missed out on the Asda one the other day

I seen a similar deal for morrisons through amazon if you are a new customer

For boys/ gender neutral:

A squishy
A fidget
A bouncy ball
Rubik's cube type puzzle (cheaper one?)
Dobble
Uno
Keyring
Funky notebook
Those little men that stick to a window & flip down
Wind-up funny teeth
A little box that tweets like a bird
Lego figure/similar
Hotwheels car
Finger skateboard (e.g Techdeck)
Magnets
Tub of Playdough

All things my 3 big boys all loved & will still play with if little cousins are around & I get them out.

This is a great list.

I'd add for teen boys:
Comb
Sports socks esp branded ones
Any little football-themed items, especially if they're potentially of international interest (world cup, big Premier League clubs)
Coloured pencils and a sketch pad
Any pocket puzzles or games that don't need good English skills to understand - there seems to be lots around at this time of year as stocking fillers, or try charity shops for nearly new (if that's allowed)
Wind up torch
Technical top for sports (decathlon have inexpensive ones)
Water bottle
Warm hat and gloves

It makes me sad that teenage boys apparently get very few parcels via these schemes because people find them hard to buy for 😞 I always try to add a couple to the pile for them.

My Ulster weavers towels arrived and are excellent! £32 for 3 massive bath sheets and 3 hand towels.
My MIL wanted some ordering but sadly the discount code no longer works, does anyone know if there's been any new ones available?

Not had any new email code, just that it ended Sunday gone! Hopefully they do something similar for blackfriday maybe!

@DaffodilsInAJamjar - I agree.

My DS1 was a victim of Amazon ‘brushing’ - it was really scary - lots of tat just turning up at our door. Fortunately closing his Amazon account stopped it before it got too bad, but it was a real problem for some people a few years ago.

Paying with an Amazon gift card when buying from China in particular was something that was mentioned on MSE during the ‘brushing’ problems and I have done it ever since. We’re not talking huge amounts of money, (so I’m not worried about Section 75 protection in these situations), it’s about me not wanting sellers that are not Amazon itself having my CC details.

BTW: Just to be clear - I know that many Chinese companies selling on Amazon are genuine retailers selling good value products and I have had many good experiences. However, I am trying to be more careful who I give my CC details to online.

Ah! apologies for that @Puffalicious, just saw a couple of the headline prices! 🙈

Not atall! The older, more unusual team tops would be good for training. They also have a long sleeved Scotland training top that's a decent deal, so I think I'll order that.

Yes, my local scheme for Christmas gifting are always desperate for people to take the older boys as most folk prefer to buy a toy or doll. I know the organiser & she always says she loves that I & my friends pledge for the older boys. It's easy for me as I have 3 boys, so always post lists to show others how easy it actually is.

You're right about the hat & gloves & training top for kids in this country/ similar climate. I'm a teacher in an inner-city school & many kids don't have these readily available. We're great at providing sensitively (secondary so can be tricky) but so many have so little. I handed in about a dozen black school jumpers in good condition I'd had in the loft recently after a clearout, & was choked to be thanked so much as they'd all been claimed in a few days 😔.

It's a lovely thing to take your kids with you shopping/ together online choosing things for Christmas appeals, it makes them really understand. I always took my boys to choose things for someone their age as they grew, & they remember it so clearly.

BodyBoarder · Today 08:21

I started reading the kids my new Harry Potter book last night - it is absolutely beautiful. I couldn't wait until Christmas 😆

I previously posted about a shoebox gift donation thing I'm doing - have decided to go with the 10-14 age range as it's the least popular one. I can't add anything with liquid/gels etc, any food, or any war related items etc. I'm stuck for ideas apart from some nice pens and stationery.

I tend to go with make up and toiletries (nicer than they would get themselves), nice gel pens, highlighter type stuff, a good water bottle maybe. Basically things that wee girls love with a bit of status that they might be missing. Fluffy pyjamas and socks. Also a cuddly toy, squishmallow or similar

edit: sorry - just seen no liquids! May be useful to others doing similar though.

Have a look on Amazon. They’ve offered me various discounts on Morrisons, Coop and Iceland based on their home delivery schemes.

Thank you to the poster who suggested the Minalima children's books 😍

I purchased Peter Pan as part of my great-nephew's 1st Christmas present. It's absolutely gorgeous and I don't want to part with it 😂.

I think I'm going to get one for myself, I love it that much. I'd have been in heaven if I'd had books like these as a child.

🌲 I got mine from Harper Collins with 30% off, but the 4 for £44 on Amazon is a great deal.

My favourite pop-up is the Darling Children's medical notes.

Hi folks,

Has anyone seen Wet Brush branded hair brushes on sale anywhere? They are the only kind of brush that seems to get through my daughter's thick hair and I thought I might get one for her stocking.
Thank you :)

There's one on £10 Tuesday on Boots today

I can understand that - there is something magical about these books - they are so enticing. I've never read Peter Pan, Treasure Island or the Jungle Book, despite being a massive bookworm as a child. I want to read them now, but only the Minalima ones!

Just a quick note for anyone planning to order from billie Rae gift shop - the free shipping ends tonight! Been chatting with her via whatnot as she said she sells a wax burner to match a mug I was looking at 😍

@hugsandpugs the books look lovely bit as someone else said I would be very wary. I just went looking for reviews and there are none. It looks like it’s only just been set up. Hope your order arrives.

I've seen posts before about spicery kits, never paid much attention, but I'm trying to find something for my hard to buy for (although ofc he would disagree 🫪) partner. He likes a curry but doesn't cook often but I was thinking maybe it could be a date night option? What do we think? Any suggestions and offers?

I got my hubby the mezze kit from
the Spicery for his birthday and it went down very well. He's made one of the recipes already and it was easy and very tasty.

when I had a look at the site they do a date night subscription which I thought was a lovely idea :)
