I haven’t seen one of these thread yet this year and with lots of “help need ideas for…” type posts thought might be useful, plus I’m nosy and love hearing what everyone has bought their DC

(misers, moaners and the “DC should only gets a resource book, pair of socks and a satsuma” brigade need not comment.)

Three teenage girls 14, 17 & 18 was in my element shopping for them this year if I’m honest.

I've never heard of a table present but I like that idea!

Very lucky kids!

aphroditeflighty · 18/12/2025 07:44

We have very few friends and family, and my kids have never wanted for much, so Christmas is a very small affair. We perhaps have two or three small presents each, but they're appreciated, and we enjoy the day together. By comparison everyone else's Christmas feels so excessive, not only in material items, but often the sheer quantity of food and drink consumed.

Allromanticsmeetthesamefate · 18/12/2025 07:45

PineappleGrape · 18/12/2025 07:28

Wow what a lot of presents. They are very lucky. I always wonder though, isn’t it genuinely tricky to find places to put all these new items?
And, if one gives this volume of gifts on all special occasions, don’t you simply run out of things you can think of to give for the next birthday and the next Christmas etc?

We have never run out of ideas yet and that with 3 of the same (girls!!) and luckily we have lockable/secure outbuildings.

Why are you being snarky when people ask about this? You want to know everyone’s presents, and people want to know what this new concept you’ve made up is.

I mean a “table present” is self explanatory I would have thought….

We are skint but in times when we have been better off spend was similar- i do not put the focus of Christmas on gifts and im not judging others for doing that its just not what I want for my family.

Lot of sour grapes on this thread, as is to be expected!

Your girls are very lucky and I hope you all have a lovely day! (I also used to get Bailey's in my stocking and I have managed to not grow up to be a raging alcoholic)

Ha well done for managing to keep on the straight in narrow despite your parents best attempts to lead on a path of destruction with your miniature Baileys in your stocking.

Habe a wonderful Christmas.

These kind of threads can be so contentious! I guess it pays to remember that some people use Xmas to set their child up for the year ahead whereas others buy and replace all year round and give small and fun gifts at Christmas.

We're definitely the latter , my youngest has a train set and some yoto cards and my teenage child has sparkling wine , chocolates , nail polish , perfume and money.

I agree. We've always done a fairly light Christmas with bigger gifts at birthdays, but the reality is my dc don't ever have huge asks, in part as we tend to buy stuff for them throughout the year as they need or want it. It does make gift giving a bit tricky though.

I don't understand how you are fitting all this stuff in a stocking?

DC is grown up now, but I still love buying toys so bought several in B and M this year and left them in their Cash for Kids collection. DC and I had so much fun choosing dolls, beads, remote control cars etc.

CeeJay81 · 18/12/2025 07:54

Mine get way less spent on them, so I'm.not putting a list in here. We are low income. We rent, don't even have our own house, never mind our own Horses. The demographic of mumsnet is ridiculous. Wish there was a forum for lower working class.

3 boys here. 14,11,8.

Eldest 2 have a shared PS5 from me.
Youngest nee TV & gaming chair.

Then it’s stuff like;

DS14:
Gaming wheel
PS5 Games x 4
Funko pop figures
Trainers (first time I’ve ever given for Xmas but they were £££!)
Tracksuits (same as above)
Favourite sweets in a jar.

DS11:

Ps5 controller
Gaming wheel rig
Football shirts
Funko figures
football skill game
Favourite sweets.

DD8:

bitty pop figures & display
Lego sets
Hot wheels ultimate garage
Hot wheels monster trucks
Cars

Then from me after Christmas dinner they’ll have:

A gaming laptop
Ipad
Switch.

I wouldn’t normally buy the last 3 but someone close to us passed away this year and specifically asked that a portion of the money left behind go on something they will enjoy now & in the future. Think the sim is the DC think of her whenever they use it.

Plinketyplonks · 18/12/2025 07:58

Wow, your girls are extremely lucky!

for my son, 11, his big present is a larger set of Posca pens and a couple of art pads (from granny), we’ve got him a rebounder net thing for the garden, my sister got him an intro to cooking book, my brother got him a family game we can all play called something like Beat That, and my other sibling has got him some football cones and the Guiness book of records. Other granny got him a football. Oh and we got him a model kit of his club’s stadium that you make up. He’ll be well chuffed with that lot esp the beautiful set of Posca pens! Oh and I think some under armour thermals for training from my brother in law. Pjs from aunt and uncle.

daughter, 8, gymnastics mat fold away type from granny, towel with hearts on from sibling, a Spirograph from other granny, watercolours set from other siblings, and a loom band kit from final sibling. A couple of other things I can’t remember, think there are some glittery paints. In h&m yesterday I picked her up a v sweet miffy jumper with strawberries on. Pjs from aunt and uncle.

then some fab stockings if I do say so myself! I love doing them!

PoorUncleBarry · 18/12/2025 08:01

The gift I am most excited about for my 12 year old son is a signed Vecna Funko Pop! Figure, he has other gifts but he wont see this one coming.
Edited to say that I also give table gifts, I give them to everyone who has dinner with us as it breaks up the monotony of Nanny talking about who died/cheated/she fell out with.

bookworm14 · 18/12/2025 08:01

All my girls have different, each given for their 1st Christmas, DD1 is the longest maybe around 2 and half ft but it has an inner lining so looks bigger than it what it actually is. DD2 is patchwork and was homemade by my sister it’s lot shorter and wider, DD 3 is also home made it’s a lot shorter than the other two but because it’s been crocheted it’s VERY stretchy and probably holds the most, any excess goes into their sack (pillow case sized) and any excess of that just sits around with bigger presents.

All a nod to my own childhood where we had one of my dads very long kilt socks as a stocking and a proper Christmas pillowcase.
