I haven’t seen one of these thread yet this year and with lots of “help need ideas for…” type posts thought might be useful, plus I’m nosy and love hearing what everyone has bought their DC

(misers, moaners and the “DC should only gets a resource book, pair of socks and a satsuma” brigade need not comment.)

Three teenage girls 14, 17 & 18 was in my element shopping for them this year if I’m honest.

Phew all done, looking at this I think there is a gap in my youngest DD’s sack (like to keep things equal) so I’d love to read what you have all got your DC.

OP posts:

My teenager has a stocking full of sweeties, toothbrush, fluffy socks. Also a dressing gown, an overpriced bronzer, and a book.

Sounds outrageously mean, right? But that's because she is very into and very good at a sport, so will be competing in the USA (we are in the UK) in February.... she knows her "real" gift is us paying for that.

Allwillbeewell · 21/12/2025 07:55

Your list, OP, is making me excited for when my DD is older as I remember the joy of getting those long wanted perfume (seen in the ads in vogue) and make up sets as a teen - everything was BeneFit when I was that age, not even sure if they are still going.

5 year old DD:

Stocking from Father Christmas:

  • Chocolate mice
  • Christmas piskie figure
  • Set of fancy colouring pencils
  • Christmas Tonie figure
  • Winter Light book by Aaron Becker
  • Wooden flying saucer toy - what she wrote to him for

Presents from us:

  • Sylvanian Families Grand Department store with accessories, added shops and tram - it's massive and I've had such fun settling in up in the attic.
  • Aldi Princess Jasmine Market Playset
  • Usborne Christmas sticker book
  • Story Orchestra book - from granny
  • Disney tinkerbell doll - Granny and Grandad
  • Pop up ballet musical book - Granny and Grandad
  • Sylvanian Jewellers fashion set - Uncle and auntie

WhyAreYouIkeThis · 20/12/2025 18:58

@Rosti1981 could you tell me more about the radio that listens to planes? Is it to listen to pilots/air control? What brand did you get and where from?
Sorry to bombard you with questions, I have an aviation obsessed 10 year old who would love something like this!!

@WhyAreYouIkeThis there are cheap ones on Amazon and I did buy from there in the end, but a Uniden hand held scanner which seems to be one of the recommended ones from aviatiom enthusiast sites. It was pricey (£170) but you can pay a lot more! There are some on amazon for £30ish but I wasn't sure if they would actually work.
The £170 one is obviously a lot but it got really decent consistent reviews so I am hoping he gets a lot of use from it. We are 13 miles from Heathrow and 15 miles from Gatwick and he loves the Flight Radar app and wants to be a pilot, so I hoping this gets a lot of use. It is a gamble though as he hasn't asked for it...

WhyAreYouIkeThis · 21/12/2025 18:40

Thanks so much @Rosti1981! DS also wants to be a pilot and loves Flight Radar, and he would love this! That is a little pricey but not too bad considering..I agree it's best not to go too cheap with things like this.

I'm sure your son will be over the moon with it, especially with it being a complete surprise. Have a lovely Christmas!

MiniStormInATeacup · 21/12/2025 21:08

I also wanted to add I love these threads for ideas - I've had several ideas these past few years from them when I've been stuck for my DD or nieces and nephews.

I love to see how other people 'do' Christmas. So many wonderful and different ways to celebrate and so many lucky and loved children and family whether you are spending £10 or £1000. The fact that someone is taking the time to create this magic for their loved ones is so special. What ever budget you do that on and whether you do it all new or second hand. I hope that everyone has a fantastic Christmas and enjoys every bloody moment of it. Life is tough enough all the other days of the year.

Moonlightfrog · 21/12/2025 21:13

I love these threads and seeing what people have bought, wether it’s a couple gifts or many gifts. My dc are older now but still loving at Home, both are autistic (one severely) and are not typical for their age.

I always put the same things in the stockings every year. Each one tailored to their current interests. It's always,

Can of pop
Tube of sweets/chocolate
Candy canes
Chocolate coins
Craft item
Small toy/ornament
Blind bag
Bath bomb
Pen and notebook/colouring book
Pair of socks

I never had a stocking as a kid so I've always made sure mine have one. It's the best bit!

ExamHellDoubled · 21/12/2025 23:58

Clefable · 18/12/2025 08:54

So you’ve had a go at OP for bragging while simultaneously telling her your long haul trip trumps her Christmas? The lack of self awareness of MN never fails to amuse me either!

I love the Christmas threads with people’s lists and usually enjoy reading them at the start of December to get inspiration. My DS is mid teens now and being of a slightly more advanced age myself, I find other people’s ideas useful as they help me find out what is popular with his age group at the moment. I’m then able to surprise him with presents he wouldn’t expect as my coolness usually stays deeply hidden. Grin

I’m also not wildly averse to allowing teens alcohol, the 18 plus law only applies to licensed premises. Mine has joined in with a cocktail on holiday or a glass of bubbly at Christmas / NYE for the last few years which seems pretty normal to me. He’s never been drunk. DH’s family are Italian and his nieces are quite a bit younger than ds and are often given wine with their meals when we go, it’s quite normal there too.

ohpiggy · 22/12/2025 01:31

My first thought here is that girls seem easier to shop for , then that I’ve not got mine enough but then jealous of your organisation! These sound lovely gifts. For my difficult people , nice mugs , little food hamper ! had lots of bargains from the threads on here too which really helped

Absolutely agree, there’s a very sinister, yet insecure vibe to it all, isn’t there? I guess some people feel they need to buy their kids’ love & affection though. Let’s be grateful we don’t need to do this 💚

The irony of this post...

What if the OP loves her kids and can afford to treat them at Christmas, wouldn't that be just crazy?!

I generally love sharing what I've bought my kids. Not as a brag but because I'm genuinely excited for what they have. I love reading others lists too. I wish people who didn't just moved on rather than feeling the need to make judgemental comments.

Allromanticsmeetthesamefate · 22/12/2025 08:17

Great lists everyone, there is going to be lots of happy faces on Christmas morning.

I now added a few more bits to middle DD’s pile (Hollywood mirror, huge bar of Dairy Milk and burgundy wide leg adidas joggers) to her pile as after getting everything out and wrapping was looking a bit sparse compared to the other two.
