How long has everyone got off for Christmas

Hi
How long has everyone got off work for Christmas? I'm a stay at home mum but my husband finishes on the 23rd and goes back the 5th January

OP posts:
DoreensLemonDrizzle · 15/12/2025 01:12

17th Dec - 5th Jan. I need it. I could do with not having any pressure from Christmas either. If money was no object, I’d be flying away or a relaxing holiday in the sun.

HelpMeGetThrough · 15/12/2025 01:22

I’m finishing on the 17th and back on the 5th.

Lucky devil. I'm disabled and cannot work (and in any case, draw my pension next month) my dp works in a well known garage. He's got Christmas day, boxing day, and new years day, and that's it, unless he uses up holiday. Does seem rather rubbing it in when you say yours has got all that time off 🤷🏻‍♀️

The OP is hardly ‘rubbing it in’ 🙄.

17th Dec to 5th January here too, DH finishes on the 18th to the 5th so looking forward to a few weeks together.

patooties · 15/12/2025 01:41

I finish Thursday - to the 5th. I cannot wait.

HoobleDooble · 15/12/2025 01:52

Finish at 1pm (hopefully) on the 22nd and go back at 9am on the 5th. Can't wait as I've not taken any leave since the end of June and feel like I've got a virtual low fuel warning light showing! I love holidays when everyone is off as I don't spend the time stressing out about how much work is piling up.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 15/12/2025 02:32

I’m off 24th dec to 2nd Jan.
my DH is off Christmas Day and back at work Boxing Day for a minimum 12hr shift (emergency services).

he has NY day and the eve off too this year which is unheard of so he’s pretty happy.

1Messycoo · 15/12/2025 02:43

25th and 26th a whole 2 days , lucky me !

isitmytime · 15/12/2025 02:48

i work shifts and can’t remember when I was last off over Christmas

this year I’m working my usual rotation 24th-29th (finish on the morning of the 30th) then I’m back in 31st-5th (finish morning of the 6th) DP is off 19th-6th
it’s this time of year that makes me wish I worked a 9-5 kind of job

There is not a huge amount in my life/career that could be considered boast-worthy.. so please do excuse this one.

I'm off from the 18th December to the 26th February.

I'm not in the UK, and where I live, academic holidays are quite different. Instead of in the UK having: 6+2+2+1+1 for summer, Christmas, easter and half terms. Here we just have 2 big holidays. Each about a 1.5-2 months long, one in the winter, one in the summer. In between that is solid term-time, no major breaks This year, due to the local festivals and the combinations with the academic calendar, it has resulted in a really long winter break, but a shorter summer break. Hence the crazy amount of time off this winter.

Don't be daft! All of us with time off are using holiday to do it. Your husband is choosing to only have the bank holidays. Hardly OP's fault.

Firefumes · 15/12/2025 03:31

I’ve got 2 weeks. Final week at work this week then not back until 2026!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 15/12/2025 05:59

17/12 to 4/1.

first day back at work is the 5th. I took most of my remaining annual leave (for 2025) to get those 2.5 weeks.

Hardly anyone else’s fault that your husband either can’t get them off or doesn’t book them off is it?

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 15/12/2025 06:51

Christmas day, boxing day and new years day.

WhitegreeNcandle · 15/12/2025 06:53

Nada. Livestock farmer. On one hand I’ve always wished you could pause the animals for the day. But on the other hand it’s often beautiful when no one else is around and there is a great sense of satisfaction's. 3 of our staff and our kids will be working too.

WinchSparkle80 · 15/12/2025 06:55

For the first time in my adult working life I have 27-31 off - have to use annual leave but finish 22nd and return on 2nd Jan.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/12/2025 16:03

19th-5th

sweetpickle2 · 15/12/2025 16:21

Finishing this Weds 17th, not going back again till 5th Jan.

I work for myself and so do all my clients, so everyone just takes ages off.

beerwench92 · 15/12/2025 16:24

My next day off is the 5th January.

I run a pub though so its to be expected.

LemonsMakelimes · 15/12/2025 16:46

Xmas is my favourite holiday of the year because me and DH both get two weeks off without using any leave because we have shutdown over xmas. Our jobs don't give the corporate bonuses and perks that some friends have (private dental, big xmas dos, share match schemes, private medical etc) but this is the one thing that I really like about it.

Schoolregret · 15/12/2025 17:29

I finish on the 18th and back on the 6th.

notacooldad · 16/12/2025 07:03

I finish today. Back in on 5th.

CeeJay81 · 16/12/2025 07:08

24th to 27th December and that's cause i booked some days off. Work in a supermarket which only closes 2 days a year 😒.

Mmmcheese89 · 16/12/2025 08:03

Work in healthcare so I have 2 days off between yesterday and 5th of January. Christmas eve and New year's eve. Working all bank holidays, weekends and other day in-between.
