Hi
How long has everyone got off work for Christmas? I'm a stay at home mum but my husband finishes on the 23rd and goes back the 5th January

OP posts:
DarkEyedSailor · 14/12/2025 17:39

19th-5th, I work in a school.

bleakmidwintering · 14/12/2025 17:41

19th to the 6th. Uni lecturer.

dailyconniptions · 14/12/2025 17:41

2 days. Work in Waitrose.

FoFanta · 14/12/2025 17:43

24th, 25th and 26th. 1st Jan as it's a Bank Holiday. Got 10 days off at the end of Jan/early Feb so looking forward to that.

I'm the head of a tax department (in the UK )so I will be working all the way through in the run up to the 31 Jan filing deadline. And yes that includes most of Christmas Day and Boxing Day. HMRC don't allow Christmas as an excuse for late filing. I always have the first week in Feb off to compensate.

Also a CTA here working in private client but never in my 15 years of working in practice have I worked Christmas Day or Boxing Day. Hope you don’t expect that of your staff.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 14/12/2025 17:44

i worked xmas last year so i’ve three days off this year but my shifts are then all squished together from the sunday to Friday over new year. Not allowed leave over two weeks of xmas/NYE. Healthcare. I’ve a few days leave week when everyone’s back in work.

Partner finishes xmas eve till 2nd. He could take more if he wanted to use leave. Local council.

Millionsfpeople · 14/12/2025 17:45

DarkLion · 14/12/2025 17:46

I’m a nurse so I’m not 🤣 working 24th night shift and 1st Jan night shift for my holiday shifts

Notellinganyone · 14/12/2025 17:47

Three and a half weeks- I’m a teacher.

Friendlygingercat · 14/12/2025 17:47

Im self employed so I will be closing my shops and putting on the autoresponder for 2 weeks.

Pillowaddict · 14/12/2025 17:50

I finish 23rd and go back on 12th - using annual leave to extend my break we all get due to service closure. Can't wait!!

sundayvibeswig22 · 14/12/2025 17:51

I finish 18th (though Xmas team day) and not back until 7th jan (work wed-fri). Can’t wait!

mum2jakie · 14/12/2025 17:51

LiveLuvLaugh · 14/12/2025 17:26

Finish 19th then back in on 29th. Others team members will finish 24th and be back on 5th. Public sector.

Same here!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 14/12/2025 17:52

Two weeks. I won't have any work to do in that time, and will be left well alone.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/12/2025 17:53

TaffetaPhrases · 14/12/2025 17:35

We work for ourselves so probably going to wind up from next Friday until the 6th but we always keep things ticking over. Do an hour here and there.

Same for us

I've been in practice for 30 years and have worked many Christmases. I have a very multicultural team and not all of them celebrate Christmas and have often worked it voluntarily. But I have no requirements or expectations that my team will work the same hours that I do. And yes they do get paid overtime, and no I don't. Does that answer your question ?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 14/12/2025 17:54

I finish on Wednesday until the 5th. I always save a lot of holiday so I can have a long break over Christmas.

Berlinlover · 14/12/2025 17:54

I’m off at 2 pm on the 24th and back at 8am on the 28th.

Bookaholic73 · 14/12/2025 17:56

Finish on the 19th midday and then back on the 5th.

xanthomelana · 14/12/2025 17:56

Christmas Day. I’ll be back in Boxing Day because apparently people need to shop. We always say it could be worse, we know healthcare staff and emergency services don’t even get the one day off.

PeonyPatch · 14/12/2025 17:57

Finish 19th Dec. Back in 29th, 30th and a half day 31st then off until 5th Jan. 🥂

teablanket · 14/12/2025 17:58

Working til 6pm on the 24th, back in at 6am on the 29th. Quite glad the weekend has fallen as it has, 4 days off will be a real treat.

Jellycatspyjamas · 14/12/2025 18:00

I’m off from the 23rd until the 5th, my office shuts down so don’t need to use leave for the long break.

NinePoppadomsAndASaagAloo · 14/12/2025 18:01

I only have Xmas day and Boxing Day off. Working for days either side including Xmas eve, New Year’s Eve and new years day. Not allowed to use annual leave in December.

countrymother36 · 14/12/2025 18:02

I’m also a stay at home mum I only work Mondays and Thursdays as those days my son is at nursery, my partner works at service engineering company so he gets Christmas Eve and day off and the day after Christmas then he’s back to work for a couple of days till New Year’s Eve and day
