Hi
How long has everyone got off work for Christmas? I'm a stay at home mum but my husband finishes on the 23rd and goes back the 5th January

OP posts:

0 days,

Im.a foster carer

Natsku · 14/12/2025 20:06

I have the 24th, 25th, and 26th off and I'm taking the 22nd and 23rd as minus hours. Then its just new years day and epiphany off, tempted to take the 2nd and 5th off to make it a very long weekend but I don't want to take too many minus hours that I'll have to catch up on

Crunchymum · 14/12/2025 20:24

I only have the 24th off.

I'm working the 29th, 30th and 31st and back for 2nd.

I WFH anyway and as per usual agreement, any days worked between Xmas and NY can be taken back as TOIL. So I get an extra week which I'll take later in the year. I don't work Friday's but will actually work the 2nd for Year End, which is my busiest time.

(I work in finance for a software co and most people will be off, its just skeleton staff for a few teams)

Kids will be spending a few days at grandparents between Christmas and NY so I'm actually going to make the most and get on with a few things to make Year End as smooth as possible.

I remember back in the 70s. In England, Dad got Christmas Day and Boxing day, no New Year's Day. In Scotland, they got Christmas Day and New Year's Day instead of Boxing Day. No 2 week shut down.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 14/12/2025 20:32

I work on a farm, so nothing, as the cows don't take a day off from milking over Christmas and New Year, and the sheep will continue to find inventive ways to die! In any case, it's nice to spend a bit of quiet time with them all on what is, for most people, the most sociable day of the year.

PumpkinPie2016 · 14/12/2025 20:39

I finish on the 19th and go back on the 5th 😁

I will have work to do - secondary school HoD, but I am looking forward to some down time after a very manic term!

DS is at the end of his first term in Y7 and is tired now so also looking forward to some down time. His school day is quite long and he does sports after school some days, plus they get quite a bit of homework. He's loved it but definitely in need of a rest!

Last day 18th Dec, back 6th Jan, so 18 days, can’t wait!

BatchCookBabe · 14/12/2025 20:46

19th December to 5th January. Like several others I've used a bit of holiday leave. But I am owed some time, so am using some of this. Smile DH doesn't finish til Christmas Eve at midday, but is off til 5th January like me.

Thank you! 😘

Emergency services so none ✌️ I'm ok with it though, Christmas day is just endless "I've set the kitchen on fire" so it's not too stressful, we get fed well by work, and they make up for it with an excellent work-life balance the rest of the year.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 14/12/2025 20:52

I will finish on the evening of 22nd at the latest, but may be able to finish on 19th. So I may get home from overseas post on the weekend instead of very late Monday.

i need to be back for meetings on 8th January, and given things happening at home, I may try to only come back on evening of 7th.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 14/12/2025 20:57

We wrap up at midday on the 24th, or at least we have done in previous years, nothing has been announced yet. Otherwise I'll be working through to the end of Christmas Eve (any remaining bit of Christmas food shopping will have to be done in the evening in that case, not looking forward to the traffic but hey-ho). Off on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and not back until the 2nd of January.

shatg · 14/12/2025 20:58

For the foreseeable, I’m on maternity leave and just handed in my notice last week 🎅🏻 merry Christmas

MoreIcedLattePlease · 14/12/2025 20:58

I finished on Friday, so 12/12 and back in 5/1.

DH finishes this Friday, 19/12, back in on 2/1 (which seems so pointless!)

RepublicOfPirates · 14/12/2025 21:04

Boxing Day, work in care

henlake7 · 14/12/2025 21:05

Im off 24th til 29th. Although TBF I only work 2 nights a week anyways!

Loveduppenguin · 14/12/2025 21:06

I will finish on 24th. (But that will be a half day and not much to do tbh) back on the 30th but again there won’t be much to do. So technically 24th to the 5th Jan

WhineAndWine1 · 14/12/2025 21:07

19th to the 5th. Won’t be doing a jot of work after Friday at 4pm

gamerchick · 14/12/2025 21:09

24th-27th. Can't wait.

Blanketenvy · 14/12/2025 21:13

Finishing on 23rd and back in for 29/30 then off until 5th. I don't work weds anyway. I usually try and have days off between Xmas and New year but have very little leave left now until April as I've had to use a lot on making hours shorter to manage health stuff.

pecanpie101 · 14/12/2025 21:25

I'm off Xmas day/Boxing Day and New Year's Day

JacknDiane · 14/12/2025 21:55

2 days. Work in retail.

KilliMonjaro · 14/12/2025 22:05

22-5th

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 14/12/2025 22:11

I forget how much time people get off. Is it AL or does your work close down for 2 weeks?
I've ill health retired now but we didnt get anytime over Xmas or new year (worked 33 years in the same place). Not allowed to take AL over that period. Worked for Children's services.

Mamadothehump · 14/12/2025 22:11

17/12 - 12/01. I’m self employed and going away !!!
