Thread 8 - the one with all the pillow talk

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

It's nearly time! November is tomorrow and Mariah Carey will be officially announcing the start of festivities Grin . Hope you're all well and just wanted to give you all a massive thank you so sharing these wonderful ideas and codes etc. It helps me SO MUCH. I know I don't post much on here (various things going on) but I appreciate this warm place of mn so much.

Does anyone have a L’occitane discount code? Thanks

DarkNovemberBringsTheFog · 03/11/2025 18:44

@TheRelevantTrumpeter , that yarn is 32 yards or 29m per 300g skein. Here’s the Ravelry link for it. You can see lots of finished projects there, and comments on the yarn.
The pattern says 8 skeins, so you need 256 yards or 224 metres in total.

I’d go with what @Wowsersbrowsers has put about the choice of yarn, as I’ve never tried finger knitting and never used a yarn that thick. The linked blanket is crochet, though.

It won’t be a cheap thing to make!

You mention Bernat Blanket. That’s much thinner, with 220 yards or 201m per 300g skein, and asks for 8mm needles. King Cole Warm and Toastie is similar.
The Cygnet Scrumpalicious is a bit thicker, but at 80m/200g or 120m/300g skein it’s still a lot thinner than the Bernat Blanket.

If your aunt hasn’t specified a yarn or a pattern, I’d go for one of these thinner yarns, The blanket will still be very thick! This Ravelry search for Bernat Blanket knitted blankets shows you lots of blankets made with it, and what length of yarn they used. MN won’t let me add a table with that information. I don’t know if ordinary knitting and finger knitting use the same amount.

Did you see Game of Wool on Channel 4 last night? In my opinion, and that of other knitters, it was an example of using yarn which was too thick for purpose, but they had to do it to get something finished quickly.

The referral codes from QVC can take up to 24 hours to activate apparently.

I’ve caved and bought a set using a code found on HUKD - WELL10 made the set £59.96 delivered which is too good to pass up.

Oh well, that swung it for me. I've ordered the nose scented one 😄

Edit: *nose = rose

Can I ask, whats the reason for originally being £50? Is it really worth the money? Just trying to justify whether it's worth buying or not!

Qwerty21 · 03/11/2025 20:19

Can anyone inbox me a code for money off a spend at Argos please if they have one going spare? Going to be spending £75 . Many thanks

I'm so behind this year, despite following the threads. I think I'm looking for a graphics tablet, is an iPad best? We do have a PC, would something for that be better? It's for a tween, various disabilities, they haven't asked for this, I just think it may be a good idea

I am behind this year too. The one thing I have bought for dd2 is an iPad, I think they can be used as a graphic’s tablet using the pen? Dd has disabilities too and we always find ipad is the easiest to use. Amazon have them for £299 at the moment and so do a few other places.

@OnionBagoh really. I better order it whilst it’s in stock then! Do you have any intel on sizes? They look quite oversized. She’s a 10 on top

@hby9628 sorry can’t help with sizing, DD no longer has her hoodie.

Sorry for asking for recommendations, but I'm hoping for some help...

My 8yo loves crafting (I hate the mess - but also love crafting so I understand). I'm hoping to do a hamper of craft stuff and am looking for some great ideas for both items and where to get them.

I already have the bargain heavy sellotape dispenser - she's always nicking mine. Going to get scissors, safety ones aren't being used anymore and she again steals mine!

I've got a painbrush cleaning thing from Temu.

Thinking about makedo.

TheGirlWhoLived · 03/11/2025 21:10

Got the qvc Elemis for mums Xmas present, one down and she’ll be happy with that!

Thelifeofawife · 03/11/2025 21:13

I’m gutted to have missed out on the QVC Elemis discount, I thought there was only new customer discounts. I purchased 3 this morning 🫠

@keepincool The Works often has good things in. We did a similar thing but got some of those plastic drawers and filled them....in theory storage space too :)

Liverlybunchofcoconuts · 03/11/2025 21:35

Help needed please ! And what I think was a bargain if they arrive. I had an ad for emotional support crochet animals advent calendars for £13 each on Facebook but found them on eBay for £8 each. Let’s see. Now my ask- need ideas for my amazing auntie - we only do low budget and I usually do hamper type things. She likes herbal tea and I usually get nice biscuits but want to do something a bit different and nice for her and my uncle. Maybe a book each plus a mug and beverages ? She loves sewing and knitting. He likes cricket. Any ideas ? Or ideas just for a £20 ish nice little gift for them to share. They don’t really like cafes.

The Scrumpalicious has the better colours - how many balls would I need though - I know you wrote numbers but I really don't understand any of it! Many thanks.

I did notice in the Aldi leaflet that they’ve some craft stuff and packs coming in this week. Might be worth a look.

Theres also a memory foam pillow with bamboo covering listed in there too, £12 I think it is.
