Thread 6 - the one where things are getting organised

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Hope you're all well. I've just put in a big Temu order for stocking bits and bits for work. They gave me £8 off my next order yesterday as two orders I had are arriving late and, when I contacted customer services about something, they also gave me a 20% off voucher, so I saved £20 on my order!

Just wondering if anyone ever does some joint presents for their DC and how that goes down?

I have two the same gender. They’re 3 years apart but mostly like the same things. Recently they have become very possessive of their things e.g. if I buy one of them a board game then they won’t let the other play it without them as it’s “their” game. I was just wondering how to navigate this at Christmas as I obviously don’t want to buy 2 of everything!

Santa has given joint presents here in the last. Board games, encyclopaedia-type books, things like that.

I’ve had this problem. Things like board games would be given as family presents or sent to the 2 of them (3 in my case) but then I make sure they have their own individual items that are just theirs that they don’t have to share if they don’t want. I get the same but try to get different colours or something slightly different.

For years I actually stuck name stickers on everything to stop the arguing as they would argue about the same thing even if there was an identical item right next to it.

Just ordered the Glasses Cleaner from Rosemart Signs and the RMULTI20 code is still working.
8 little sticking fillers sorted! Thank you to the original poster!
I’m trying to do it so that every person gets something from a small, British company this year so these suggestions are fab.

Thank you for this post, I’ve been thinking of looking at the glasses cloth but didn’t want to be another person asking and wasn’t looking forward to going through all the threads for the link.

I don’t want to sound grumpy as I’ve had LOADS of fantastic buys because of these threads over the years but lately I seem to be trawling through so many posts of ‘can anybody recommend a XXXXXXXXX’ .
Ive just checked @Reastie OP which says “to share bargainous links, ideas, codes, or information”.
I think for the first time ever I’ve waded through nearly 40 pages without even checking a single link.
Wouldn’t it be wise to set up a separate thread for “looking for” rather than sharing great offers?
I love these threads so much - bring back the bargains!!

100% agree! Have used and posted pads over the years to this thread and have found it invaluable for years. However I think it is now becoming more of a recommendation thread. Maybe we need to keep the bargain thread and have new recommendations thread too - like how the referrals thread was birthed!

jocktamsonsbairn · 19/10/2025 03:02

i didn’t edit but obviously pads should be loads!

I got the dunelm teddy one last year and we had to bin it. It washed awfully and just went bobbly. Also everything stuck to it, it was like velcro.

Just to add that my Mum also got this one and returned it for the same reason. She then got a QVC one which also went back. It was too big for the duvet so didn't hang well and despite the fact that she's in her 80s and a very cold lady, she says she sweated to death in the furryness which just shed and stuck to her. Horrid stuff.

I'd honestly say that a 'thinner' heated blanket or throw would be a better idea than full on Teddy bedding. We have a lovely heated blanket from Lakeland and it goes on offer every year / stacks with vouchers that Lakeland usually send out. (Although I notice they don't seem as ge Generous/ often as they used to be)

I also note that bargains are much thinner on the ground and for me I noticed last year so definitely COL related. The glory days of the past may be largely gone, but I do still live in hope of a good bargain popping up now and again. Tbh, Vinted is now mostly my bargain saviour.

Also Gisou has three lip oils for £48 33% off on their site a limited time only

Both are teen favorites and actually good products

Beautifulsunflowers · 19/10/2025 08:55

Went real life shopping yesterday to the designer outlets. Got so many great bargains for my young adult ds’s.
pack of 5 t shirts from Abercrombie were less than £20 at checkout.
Branded formula 1 sweaters and t shirts from castore - spent over £80 and got 20% off - I got 2 sweaters for £67.
Also bought myself some new clothes from the M&S outlet that wasn’t Christmas presents but a nice treat for me!!

GRCP · 19/10/2025 09:04

A few threads ago there was a brick construction kit discussed for kids which used real materials just in tiny form - can anyone please remind me of the brand? Thanks!

DownWhichOfLate · 19/10/2025 09:34

@GRCP - might be Teifoc?

Are there any bands she likes on here. https://www.theguitarwrist.co.uk

they donate used guitar strings to be made into jewellery.

Oh my god these are the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
im now broke

Hedjwitch · 19/10/2025 11:02

Also love these guitar strings gifts. DS plays bass and would love a bracelet. Now to try and find out which of these musos are his favourites.

Just wanted to give a thumbs up for Sushi Go which I bought on the recommendation on this thread as it’s still down to £5.40 on Amazon. We’re playing on a wet half term holiday in Dorset and really enjoying it with ages 9, 12 and two adults!

Definitely a good stocking filler.

I have 3 girls 14, 11, 11. We quite often do board games as a joint present and they are fine with this approach. I usually try to get 3 joint things so they can each open one thing! Eg this year we will have a board game, a PS5 game and something edible to share.

Can anyone recommend a furry/ soft duvet set something like this? DD has asked for one. She's a real coldy cat and wants something warm and soft. She already has jersey. I think they would be uncomfortable to sleep in and not wash well so I would really like to know how others have found them.

These are very cosy and wash well (no bobbling thus far) were recommended on MN, ~last year

eta; actually was 2023 and still going strong 😊

Thank you. Those look perfect.

@Goingincirclesstill I have created a spinoff thread on “how to use Temu discounts” to discuss, in case it helps others too.

( @CatRash and others might also be able to join to give tips)

EDIT - lost the quote, but was in response to a question about Temu minimum order
