Thread 6 - the one where things are getting organised

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Hope you're all well. I've just put in a big Temu order for stocking bits and bits for work. They gave me £8 off my next order yesterday as two orders I had are arriving late and, when I contacted customer services about something, they also gave me a 20% off voucher, so I saved £20 on my order!

Can anyone help with a VR headset? Request from DS, doesn’t normally ask for much. Have seen they are quite ££ I’m thinking a Meta one, as we don’t have a gaming console or PC - any advice? Are they likely to drop in price over Black Friday or not normally discounted? I think it would be the 3s entry level one, as I’m not really convinced he’ll use it! thanks

We’ve done this for DS who has asked for over a year. We’ve done the meta quest 3s and I bought when Argos had an offer on gaming that took it down to £235ish- Amazon big deal day had it at similar price. Might go lower but I didn’t want to gamble if it didn’t with it being main thing he wants

Magic Mixies Magic Mirror is £24.99 instead of £69.99 at Smyths. I'm trying to decide between this, a Cookeez or more Monster High dolls for one of my daughters.

@LunaDeBallona I think the questions help me get ideas even when I haven't posted and the thread has always been full of them. I do think there have been fewer bargains the last few years, but that is a shift in cost of living and things I think and not because we are being lazy at bringing links here.

This little mini lego wildflower set looks like a cute wee gift, maybe with a teeny vase to put it on their shelf. £9.67 with code ALLFORYOU10 wildflowers

It does look really small though, just be aware.

Lego Millennium Falcon is down to £579.99 at Smyths. Don’t ask me if that’s good or now but it says it is down from £735.

I find the recommendations give me some new ideas especially for adults

I've noticed that aome place have not had their usual good sales or bargains they normally do by this point od the year

EdenGlen · 18/10/2025 21:57

Just wondering if anyone ever does some joint presents for their DC and how that goes down?

I have two the same gender. They’re 3 years apart but mostly like the same things. Recently they have become very possessive of their things e.g. if I buy one of them a board game then they won’t let the other play it without them as it’s “their” game. I was just wondering how to navigate this at Christmas as I obviously don’t want to buy 2 of everything!

I have a 15 year old autistic daughter who never ever writes a Christmas list. She’s tomboy-ish, obsessed with gaming on her tablet, listens to heavy metal, and likes animals. Reads books.

HELP! I need gift ideas. It’s a struggle every year.

Are there any bands she likes on here. https://www.theguitarwrist.co.uk

they donate used guitar strings to be made into jewellery.

Does anyone know where I can purchase some wide calf socks for an older woman? I've previously bought from Sockshop and they were great, but were lightweight. She would like wool or Nordic style, something "wintery" and I'm a bit stumped where to look. Any suggestions welcome please!

I've a wide calf and my dp buys me fleece lined knitted socks from the garden centre. They don't have elastic in so are really really comfy.

I have 3 years between mine (6 and 3) and they've had a few joint things, like brio track. Other things ive bought 2 of (foam minecraft pickaxes, plush pikachus, etc). Depends what it is. Board games seem a clear joint gift? Whereas this year santa is bringing rc mario kart cars, so obviously one each.

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 18/10/2025 22:10

@EdenGlen I have 2 boys which are 2 years apart and like yours like similar things which can result in jealousy or protectiveness. I have taken to buying their individual bits and one joint present which involves an element of playing together. Last year for example, they both liked playmobil and were into pirates, so I bought one the playmobil island with a small blue ship, the other the playmobil pirate fort with a small red ship, all from vinted which saved ££. Left them under the tree on christmas morning, unwrapped because they were second hand and already built so it was the first thing they saw and started playing with, together. Bonus was it also gave me and DH time to make a coffee before the unwrapping began! The other advantage is if theyre being awkward, or one isn't into it that day, they play with their own bit separately.

The challenge is to now factor in my 3 yo daughter!!

Can anyone recommend a set of stepping stones for a toddler please?
There seems to be a lot around and not sure which set to go for
He's 18 months old and pretty small but a confident walker/climber, ideally a set that will last a while and that stacks away nicely 🤞🏼

Chad valley/ argos have just brought out a whole new range of toys including these for £20. Unfortunately no reviews as they are a new product but worth a look?

They've also brought out a wide range of wooden toys presumably to keep up with aldi/ lidl madness every year

Just ordered the Glasses Cleaner from Rosemart Signs and the RMULTI20 code is still working.
8 little sticking fillers sorted! Thank you to the original poster!
I’m trying to do it so that every person gets something from a small, British company this year so these suggestions are fab.

Thank you for the reminder! Just done 8. I’m assuming if I attach 8 pictures and then put 8 in the quantity they will realise I want one of each?

daisyboo1 · 18/10/2025 22:26

@MrsMAFs thank you! And to the other poster for directing me also (I thanked your post, but can't find you now!). Hadn't thought about either of those places. Will get browsing.

They seem like an absolute nightmare. I never bought and never subscribed ro anything yet somehow they keep spamming me with emails. I keep having to unsubscribe with the reason 'I never subscribed in the first place' from their drop down list. And still the emails come.

Thanks to whoever recommended pintail candles BTW. The ones I fancied weren't in stock but found someone selling exactly the ones I was after on vinted. They have just arrived and are brilliant.

If you mark the emails as spam your email service should start sending to your spam folder. Might not stop them coming but at least you won't see them cluttering up your in-box.

Sleeposaurus · 18/10/2025 22:35

The snapfish website is currently not working, hopefully they will fix it tomorrow. The code FB2025 is meant to give you a free 20 page 8x6 photo book or £16.99 off larger ones. Just pay delivery.

@PurpleSock we have the national geographic stepping stones and they're great

Interesting. Was wondering whether to just claim my refund, or give it a bit longer as I had a dispatch notification and a tracking number.
Did you speak to Customer Services or just press the refund button?

Sorry my reply is late, but I spoke to customer services

@EdenGlen when I was a child board games and videos (showing my age!) were always joint gifts with me and my sibling.

A joint present for each child to open. E.g. joint hot wheels set but one opens the set and one the cars
