This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Thank you that’s another idea

I think it depends on what kind of colouring book you're getting. I also use fineliners for geometric designs, but prefer coloured pencils for things like gardens, landscapes etc

imnottoofussed · 02/10/2025 18:57

@poostinkywinkwas your post about the American candy? That email reply is auto generated by them as I’ve had the same reply.

Just a heads up about the candle lamp. I have a lot of Yankee candles and it will not fit a large jar candle of there's underneath. Its lovely though so I'm testing it with a small jar candle to see if it works. Then I'll need to decide if I keep it or not as really wanted it for my large candles

I think it’s animals and I went for one that wasn’t too tiny areas. But given mum isn’t particularly artistic I don’t think she will have strong preferences on what she uses

@keepincool

excuse my ignorance, what does a candle lamp do?

@keepincool

excuse my ignorance, what does a candle lamp do?

It melts the wax and gives off lovely scents, I'm using a Dunnes stores Clementine candle and 2 weeks in it's still giving a gorgeous smell, I switch it on for about 3 hrs each night.

Re the height, there's an adjustable screw on he side to take the height of the shade up or down.

@hugsandpugs thanks, thought it was just me with the PayPal cashback as I was fruitlessly clicking around the app!

Picked up this box of Belgian beers in Lidl today for £26. Makes a fab present, DH loved them last year.

@ILoveCatsAndKittens for dinosaur fans UKGE sells some fantastic real fossils at really reasonable prices. We've bought a fair few over the years for DD1.

LostCats2 · 02/10/2025 18:15

For the person asking about dinosaur items, I really recommend this book. It has been read cover to cover many times over the years (incl by me during the kids long bathtimes). The pictures are gorgeous and they've (I've) learned so much so it's definitely for all ages:Amazing Dinosaur Book

Why is it that your link gives me 43% off, retailing at £12.49 but when I order off my own (Prime!) account, it’s 41% off, standing at £13.01…

I really do get cross with Amazon!

poostinkywink · 02/10/2025 16:45

Off the back of your post, I emailed them about my own order and got a reply to say they have shipped a large back log of orders and to please be patient. I will wait.

Automated reply. I’ve had it twice 😆

Word of warning with White Fox and waiting for black friday; i did that last year and the joggers arrived a few days beforw Christmas, and the hoodie almost a week after Christmas! There were loads of people posting on their SM saying the same. Hopefully they've got better at dealing with demand by this year but I won't risk it.

ChristmasJumperz · 02/10/2025 19:40

@Christmasdreaming I made a note of what White Fox offered last year in case DD was interested this year. Obviously can't guarantee it will be the same but this is my note: They did 40% off White Fox hoodies on Monday 25th Nov. Sale did not start till 7pm. Then Thurs 28th (day before Black Fri) they did 30% off and then on actual BF they did 40% but only till 11am someone said?

Yankee candle fits under mine

I wonder if I've got a different one or something? The large old style Yankee candles will not fit at all under mine. The highest the lamp will go leaves a gap of 12cm, whereas the candle is 15cm high. Its working well with the small jar and is lovely.

Any suggestions for decent but not fancy colouring pencils for an adult? I have brought my mum an adults colouring book as she showed an interest and retired this year so has more time. Need to get some colours to go with it- don’t want to spend loads as she might not take to it but equally she needs a decent set not a kids one.

TK Maxx had some pretty cheap Derwent watercolour pencils in store - not on their website but they do have some other decent brand ones if you go online and type in pencil.

Ewock · 02/10/2025 19:52

Ignore me, turns out I was being a bit too careful. Said to my dh I couldn't get it any higher and he basically yanked it up (It was loosened all the way) and after a moment it gave and moved higher! So now is just tall enough for my large candle.

Honeyandwine · 02/10/2025 20:13

@Ewock do you have the link please? Now decided I need one of these in my life!

For some reason I can't copy the link, butchered is a pic with the info on.
If you add to basket and go through to checkout page it is going down to £13.49, I kept checking it everyday and it went down to £9.49. So prob worth adding to basket and checking.

Not butchered blooming auto correct! Meant to say but here is a photo!!

JillyBoel22 · 02/10/2025 20:39

Someone previously mentioned some bargains on the No7 site as they have 40% off for beauty week but as I’ve been browsing I’ve noticed all the makeup gifts have just gone on today and are 30% off so some good bargains to be had! There is a referral link for £10 off on the referral thread too which should stack

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 02/10/2025 20:44

BeaLola · 02/10/2025 18:14

I don't use pencils in my colouring (mostlymandalas), I use Stabilo pens point 88 which are very fine for detail - often on offer with Cult Pens or Amazon

@BeaLola Do you have a book that doesn't bleed through, or do you have one with individual pages? After some tips either way.

Arregaithel · 02/10/2025 21:28
