How are you all spending Christmas Eve evening?

We are having fish and chips and I'll put a Christmas film on in the background.

We've been for a walk, after food will probably put out the mince pie for Santa and gang the stockings.

My children are older so probably won't go to bed too early. Once the youngest is asleep we will have to do the stockings and then head to bed.

Does anyone do anything special or have a routine?

We are just back from Christingle and about to have a picnic dinner under the tree.

maybeinanotherlifetime · 24/12/2024 17:39

It will be an evening of buffet food and a Christmas film for is this evening.
Then DDs ages 6 and 10 will be having a Sleepover in the eldest’s room. They have separate rooms now and the little one misses her big sister so we have set up a blowup bed for her for the night so they can chill together.

HelloCheekyCat · 24/12/2024 17:41

Sat in the car waiting for our KFC because they’re having some sort of delay 😆
then back home to eat, maybe play a card game & watch a bit of TV until DD is asleep so we can put the presents under the tree. She’s 13 but we all like it to be a surprise in the morning

StressedQueen · 24/12/2024 17:43

We've been bingeing Christmas movies since about 2pm and are just taking a break of setting up dinner which is just fish and chips and then a KFC for my 6 year old (we gave in). We've made snowmen cookies and the kids will put them near to the fireplace with milk and carrots just before bed. All of the children are going upstairs at 8:30am regardless of age today so that we have time to put 5 kids lots of presents underneath the tree as a big surprise!!

Sassybooklover · 24/12/2024 17:50

I've cooked the meat, pigs in blankets, stuffing, peeled the vegetables and made 6 individual melt-in-the-middle chocolate puddings. I am now officially knackered! It's a glass of wine and a Chinese takeaway with my husband and son. I will have a shower, get into my pyjamas once I have tidied the kitchen after we've eaten. Probably read or watch TV, until it's time for bed (which won't be late!!).

HolidaySpirit · 24/12/2024 17:52

Chinese takeaway followed by a Christmas movie and a family game

PermanentTemporary · 24/12/2024 17:54

Walk with a group of local friends and back to theirs for tea, then abandoned the teenager at theirs to come back for a platter of smoked salmon, cheese, panettone in front of the remastered Dr Who from 1972...

Kangarude · 24/12/2024 17:55

Going with DH to meet friends in the pub (no young DC) and hoping to bump into Santa on the way home Wink
Merry Christmas 🎄

theDudesmummy · 24/12/2024 17:56

Our Christmas dinner. The turkey has just gone in.

MayaPinion · 24/12/2024 17:57

We’re going out for our traditional Christmas Eve curry at the (highly rated) local Indian.

Mashroom · 24/12/2024 17:57

I’ve made mulled wine and it’s in the slow cooker on warm function. We’ve mass then coming back and I’ll put on a little buffet (party food - samosas, vol au vents etc and grapes and strawberries with macarons etc)

then kids in bed .. Santa time ❤️

Lordofmyflies · 24/12/2024 17:59

Ive been prepping the food for tomorrow, then a long dog walk at the beach. Back home for tea and mince pies with family who have arrived. Just waiting for the ham to glaze before ham, chips and egg dinner and midnight mass this evening.

GettingStuffed · 24/12/2024 17:59

I'm done for tomorrow. Probably the earliest ever. I've managed to rear my finger down to the quick so wrapping was so painful I've not wrapped some presents and those that are wrapped are in a carrier bag as DH has lost the labels. Posh carrier bags, you know the type they sell bt the till. DS1 has a Grinch one and DH a generally Christmas one.

So plan for tonight is make venison sausage in a red wine sauce

garlictwist · 24/12/2024 17:59

Debating whether I can be arsed meeting DH and mates in the pub or if I just want to sit in by myself, eat cheese and watch TV. The latter is seeming very appealing...

Alittlebitfluffy · 24/12/2024 18:00

We'll have baked Camembert with Christmas party food nibbles.

Currently doing a festive puzzle while the fiancé as usual does his panic wrapping!

Ahead with all the food prep as not hosting for once. He made homemade sausage rolls earlier so need to tidy up the aftermath still.

Then watch a Netflix movie with a festive drink or perhaps binge read magazines (on readly app on my iPad) in bed 🥳🥳

CrepuscularCritter · 24/12/2024 18:00

In M&S finding bargainous snacks. Then home and crashing out with said snacks.

Today was spent visiting ill family, meeting their social worker and making other arrangements, so I will be glad to hit the sofa with books and YT. If I fall asleep, I think I'll be forgiven.

Alittlebitfluffy · 24/12/2024 18:01

May also go for a walk around the local houses to see the best Christmas lights too

DazedandConfused1234 · 24/12/2024 18:02

Cleaning the house, Mass, more cleaning, put out mince pie etc for Santa, kids to bed, then wrap presents. All lastminute.com in this house.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 24/12/2024 18:02

Enjoying pottering while watching tv, cooking the ham, making stuffing and prepping veg. I'm It is nice to be away from the pressure of work and everyday life and just be present while knowing there is nothing more we can buy now so just need to relax and enjoy. Waiting for DD to finish work so we can all eat together.

theDudesmummy · 24/12/2024 17:56

Our Christmas dinner. The turkey has just gone in.

I’ve always wondered if that means you have leftovers tomorrow as another Christmas dinner or do you have something else?

Pumpkittenspice · 24/12/2024 18:03

We’ve been watching The Muppets Christmas Carol, whilst eating our dinner. We’re about to have our dessert now (Rodney the Reindeer mousse from M&S and cream).

Will tidy up and put the presents under the tree later on 😊

Blueemeraldagain · 24/12/2024 18:04

Family are over for takeaway pizza, Muppet Christmas Carol,
games then midnight Mass 💕

JaninaDuszejko · 24/12/2024 18:04

MIL is with us and she always makes Christmas Eve tea for us when she's here for Christmas. It smells gorgeous.

I've got stockings to stuff this evening so will have to nag the (teenage) DCs to go to bed early so I can do that and eat the mince pie and drink the Baileys that is left out. Will have to find a suitably cheesy Xmas film to watch.

doihaveacase · 24/12/2024 18:05

Just took the kids for a walk in the city centre park to see the Xmas lights. On our way home now where Tinsel the elf is waiting with the kids' Xmas Eve box. Nothing fancy, just new PJs each and marshmallows to go in our hot chocolate.

Then it will be dinner (DH making smash burgers), bath, hot chocolate with said marshmallows, stockings up and mince pies left for Santa. Bed for kids hopefully by 9ish. DH and I will wrap last few bits and watch Die Hard with booze and chocolate. Then put out all the pressies before we turn in. Hoping kids can last till 7am tomorrow at least Xmas Blush

ChanelBoucle · 24/12/2024 18:07

We’ve had baked ham, red cabbage, chips, coleslaw and homemade cauliflower cheese - our usual Christmas Eve tradition. This evening the dds are off to the pub to see their friends and Dh and I will probably watch films and play cards by the fire. It’ll be an early one for both of us as we’re hungover from last night’s shenanigans.
