We are having fish and chips and I'll put a Christmas film on in the background.

We've been for a walk, after food will probably put out the mince pie for Santa and gang the stockings.

My children are older so probably won't go to bed too early. Once the youngest is asleep we will have to do the stockings and then head to bed.

Does anyone do anything special or have a routine?

We live overseas, went out for a lovely fondue lunch overlooking the lake. Beautiful sunny day. I was really looking forward to going to the cathedral here for the English carol service but my son is 4 and has autism and just wasn't up to going. So we watched a movie and I've started on the champagne. Sod the food prep.

spanieleyes · 24/12/2024 18:08

Just had Domino's pizza and will settle down to watch Die Hard shortly!

Queenfreak · 24/12/2024 18:09

We are just back from a panto. Girls have gone upstairs to play roblox (I've just relented, will monitor it over the next week or so). We will watch a movie, play some cards, and then once the presents are out I'm heading to bed to read. Husband will stay downstairs until stupid o'clock with bil and his dad. Sil and mil will head to bed same time as me

Just finished cleaning the kitchen. About to make beef bourgognion (sp) for dinner tomorrow. Ds's gf and dm here tomorrow with myself and dp, youngest ds going to his dads, so having a roast Boxing Day when he's here.

All presents wrapped- I can't believe how much I've bought 🫣 literally can not walk in the living room.

Pizza, garlic bread and wedges tonight whilst me and dp we drink Corona and watch young Sheldon. Youngest has gone out with friends and eldest is upstairs with his gf gaming.

I actually feel relaxed!!!

Kids and I have been for a McDonald's then onto look at Christmas lights. They'll soon be in bed (only small) so then to finish wrapping presents (that I swore I'd finish at the weekend but illness within the house set me back 😵) and settle in bed for the night once DH is home.

Jennyathemall · 24/12/2024 18:14

your going to do what to the poor stockings?!🙄

OhMyGiddyAunt · 24/12/2024 18:15

Not long home after a car nightmare ....not what you need on Christmas Eve when garages are shut ..... so probably not up to much other than eating, drinking and an early night!
I've already warned the (young adult) DC that Father Christmas might arrive with the stocking presents either before they go to bed or tomorrow morning!

Longwaysouth · 24/12/2024 18:16

Having a party. Merry Christmas everyone. Cheers

umberellaonesie · 24/12/2024 18:18

I was at work (NHS) and got home and wrapped all the presents. Chili for tea and an early night

ShowOfHands · 24/12/2024 18:19

I've made trifle and cauliflower cheese, prepped veg, par boiled potatoes, braised cabbage, set the table, made stuffing and cleaned.

Been for a walk.

Now, takeaway and a film. DC are 13 and 17 but will still read books to them before bed though it will be MUCH later. They will also hang stockings and leave out porridge for the tomtes.

Soccermumamir · 24/12/2024 18:20

We've just had a takeaway and watched a couple of episodes of the 'Skeleton Crew - Star Wars'.

Bjorkdidit · 24/12/2024 18:22

Watching Home Alone while umm, home alone, apart from the cats.

Just need the one that's asleep on my lap to wake up, so I can get a drink and snacks.

Must investigate where to watch Muppets Christmas Carol for when Home Alone finishes.

lorisparkle · 24/12/2024 18:27

When the boys were little I loved Christmas Eve. We would go to the Nativity Service at the local church whilst DH would finish off the PNP videos. Then back home to watch the videos, eat tea and watch Father Christmas on the NORAD tracker. The DC would find a surprise extra present from the elves in their beds (new pyjamas) and then get into the pyjamas, put treats and their stockings out for Father Christmas before a Christmas story and bed. Once in bed DH and I would madly finish off the wrapping and tidying whilst listening to something Christmasy.

Cheersmedears123 · 24/12/2024 18:30

We had a big lunch so DH and I will have snacky bits for dinner I expect. DS is chilling before I get him showered and ready for bed. DH and I then need to do ALL the wrapping. We’ll have a few drinks while we’re at it. I just hope DS is asleep at a decent time so that we can crack on.

Dottydoodoo · 24/12/2024 18:31

We have just had spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, and are now watching a christmassy film while DS steals my phone every now and again to track Santa on norad.
We will set up the treats for Santa and the carrot for the reindeer in a little while. Part of me would love to watch The Snowman but I am worried it will make me cry.

Melonmango70 · 24/12/2024 18:31

Up this morning for work, migraine lingering from yesterday. Guilt-tripped the husband into going for a beer once we got home, went to the local shop for a few more, only had one, crisp sandwich, cup of decaff coffee now with a couple of biscuits, up again tomorrow at 5.20 for work again! Exciting times in the NHS! Hoping to pick up a couple of beers on the way home from work at 2, and boom! That's Xmas done! Woohoo....

MadmansLibrary · 24/12/2024 18:33

We've watched Home Alone, had baths and put on our matching PJs before Muppets Christmas Carol and pizza. I'm really strict about bedtime and Christmas Eve is no exception: DD is already in bed and we're about to read The Night Before Christmas and check NORAD before the lights go off.

Floralnomad · 24/12/2024 18:35

We are having a snack type tea and are going to watch Pirates of Penzance - the Australian opera version with Anthony Warlow .

chocolateybuttons · 24/12/2024 18:37

We're currently watching Home Alone, DH is putting some M&S party food in the oven and making egg nog.

We were out last night at friends so DD is tired, so hoping for an early Ian night for the kids later, and not much later for me as I'm knackered!

whatthedickens5 · 24/12/2024 18:38

Had a busy day of tiring kids out. Just woke up from nap and will have a quick dinner (lots of roasted veg and sausages) and tidy up before opening all our Christmas presents at 8pm tonight 🎄

frozendaisy · 24/12/2024 18:38

Just back teens are prepping buffet, bread rolls with baked camembert, pigs in blankets, sausage rolls.

Wannabedisneyprincess · 24/12/2024 18:38

I’m going to put our DC 2 and 5 to bed shortly then have a pizza while having a drink and building the Santa presents (Santa bringing one item that usually needs building) and doing the stockings while we watch Die Hard

this has become mine and DH Xmas Eve tradition since having DC, before that we would go to the pub with friends 🤣

Ponderingwindow · 24/12/2024 18:39

Full on Christmas celebration with one side of the family.

DrFoxtrot · 24/12/2024 18:40

Running round after every fucker else. Trying to get a few minutes of peace for escapism on Mumsnet.

DeathMetalMum · 24/12/2024 18:40

We have just had pizza I made for dinner. I will have a shower shortly, then bring down Christmas pj's for dc. Dc will put out mince pie and milk.

Dd2 who is 11 has asked for Twas the night before christmas to be read. So I will read that to both dd's while dp gathers the presents and stocking things stull to be wrapped.

We will wrap and sort stockings in front of a film with a few drinks. Dc will be sent up around 8 to watch some TV so we can get to bed at a decent time.
