How are you all spending Christmas Eve evening?

We are having fish and chips and I'll put a Christmas film on in the background.

We've been for a walk, after food will probably put out the mince pie for Santa and gang the stockings.

My children are older so probably won't go to bed too early. Once the youngest is asleep we will have to do the stockings and then head to bed.

Does anyone do anything special or have a routine?

We had family round for cheese and nibbles earlier. Now we've got Father Christmas on and will watch The Muppets Christmas Carol before hanging up stockings and heading to bed.

We were at the Christmas markets this afternoon, and almost home when dd remembered an urgent purchase so she and I turned back while DH managed a short nap waiting for us (he really needed it).

We've had a nice dinner, cleaned up, and are all curled up in comfy chairs watching a drama while it rains outside. So all very relaxed and calm here, which is much needed by us all after an extremely hectic year!

troppibambini6 · 24/12/2024 19:42

We've been at a party withthe kids this afternoon and to mass.
Kids are all showering then new Xmas pjs from the Xmas eve boxes and a film.
I'm missing one of them though who is working til midnight.

SpiritAdder · 24/12/2024 19:43

We are watching Lord of the Rings

FancyAnxiety · 24/12/2024 19:45

Solo champagne and cheese evening for me! Watching tv and having a fab time. Merry Christmas!

BountifulPantry · 24/12/2024 19:45

I’ve read the night before Xmas with the family, now watching all the US Office xmas specials. The OH making picky bits tea.

Shutupyoutart · 24/12/2024 19:47

we spent the afternoon making Christmas crafts for Santa, then we watched the Santa clause 3 and had a buffet/party style dinner, put up the stockings and treats for Santa and reindeer, and am now currently trying to get my incredibly excited 7year old ds to sleep so I can wrap all the presents last Min as always! might have a glass of Bailey's in front of the TV while I wrap :)

familyissues12345 · 24/12/2024 19:47

Nothing particularly exciting! We've just had tea and watching the soaps. Will stick on a Christmas film afterwards!

CoodleMoodle · 24/12/2024 19:50

The DC had a bath and then we watched a Cbeebies Panto and had a sofa dinner. Put out a little tray for Santa and wrote a letter each.

I've just read to DS6 and put him to bed, and I'm going to have a quick bath myself while DH reads to DD10 downstairs. Once she's in bed too DH is going to set up DS's main present (DD's is Lego so no setting up required for her this year!) and I'll do the stockings when I'm sure they're asleep.

Cinema, dog walk, Delia’s 3 mustard pork stroganoff. Kids chilling - youngest one has just written the sweetest letter to Father Christmas that made us well up. Something is definitely in the air as the kids have genuinely been lovely to each other. Me and DH keep looking at each other and thinking “is this really happening?” The first three are traditions. I’m hoping the last one is a new one xx

Stressfordays · 24/12/2024 20:01

We took the dog a long walk (via the pub) then spent the afternoon doing Christmas crafts and watching Christmas movies with a little pizza buffet for tea. Just all had showers and got into our Christmas PJ's and now having hot chocolates (mine with Bailey's). Gonna do Santa plate soon and pack the kids off to bed. Ill probably doze on the sofa until they appear to be sleeping then put the presents out.

DearDeadrie · 24/12/2024 20:13

We are having a little rave, cranked the music right up as neighbours are away and annoying our teenagers

WitchyWandering · 24/12/2024 20:15

It’s our baby girls first Christmas. We went on a Christmas walk today and then settled in to watch films. She’s in bed now and we’re getting ready for Santa for the first time ever as parents!. I know she won’t remember it but it’s very exciting.

doodleschnoodle · 24/12/2024 20:19

Party food for dinner, DD2 in bed, DD1 on her way. Once both asleep, DH has to put together DD2's scooter, we have to put all the presents under the tree and before we go to bed, swap the empty stockings for the filled ones hidden in wardrobe. Planning to watch the ghost story on BBC2 tonight.

gmgnts · 24/12/2024 20:21

Reading Mumsnet posts on my pc without feeling guilty 😁 We did have rather a nice meal earlier.

Insidenumber09 · 24/12/2024 20:21

Waiting for 2 year old to go to bed then got to dismantle his old playpen-build his new playpen and new indoor slide and wrap all his presents-it’s going to be a long night 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

HashTagLil · 24/12/2024 20:22

Took the kids for a walk to the park earlier to let them burn some energy. Had an Indians for tea, drove round and looked at lights. Sprinkled reindeer food, they’ve put Santas cookie and milk out and the little ones have just gone to bed now very excited. I’m going to have a cider and an hour watching tv, then me and hubby will be playing Santa. Luckily I’ve wrapped everything

Tortielady · 24/12/2024 20:28

It's just us and two cats. We had homemade lasagna and garlic bread and now I'm finishing off Jane Casey's latest Maeve Kerrigan police procedural, while DH potters around on his laptop. We are watching a ghost story on BBC1 later, then washing up etc and bed.

Whoowhoopitstbesoundofthedapolice · 24/12/2024 20:30

I've been ill all day and had to miss work tonight and by the feels of it tomorrow as well. Managed a bit of soup while husband preps for tomorrow (I hope I can eat it). And kids are in their rooms watching TV with the odd random noise or song being sung so settled for now.

Simonjt · 24/12/2024 20:30

We do christmas on christmas eve, so all of our presents are opened erc. The kids are somehow asleep and in their own beds, so when my husbands back from walking the dog we’re going to have a rare early night, ooo maybe i’ll have a bath actually.

daffodilandtulip · 24/12/2024 20:32

We've watched The Muppets with a chinese, after chilling, reading and napping today. I'm now annoying the teens by tracking Santa and giving regular updates 😆

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/12/2024 20:34

DH is at work 😔 DS2 has gone to the pub with his mates. Ds1 and I are eating our body weight in cheese and watching Doctor Who 😁

BulldogMumma · 24/12/2024 20:34

We had Chinese for tea. I've had a shower and I'm currently in my Christmas pjs with a glass of wine.
DP and DD9 are playing a game on the ps5 while MIL and I watch. DD17 and 20 are in their rooms on FaceTime to friends.
All presents are wrapped just need to wait for DD to go to sleep so I can bring them all downstairs.
Merry Christmas everyone 🎅🎄
