How are you all spending Christmas Eve evening?

We are having fish and chips and I'll put a Christmas film on in the background.

We've been for a walk, after food will probably put out the mince pie for Santa and gang the stockings.

My children are older so probably won't go to bed too early. Once the youngest is asleep we will have to do the stockings and then head to bed.

Does anyone do anything special or have a routine?

Both dh & I are ill so have spent the day alternating lying on the sofa and prepping Xmas-luckily I've been particularly organised this year so it's not too onerous.

We did have to cancel our friends coming round this evening for cocktails and canapés so now back on the sofa eating said canapés and watching Home Alone. Instead of cocktails, we're knocking back the lemsip!

Trifle is trifling, DH is building and I'm on lookout in case the DC come downstairs while having a glass of wine and watching the Norad Santa tracker on the TV. Pretty organised this year.

My son and I made party food then sat with my other son and watched Last Christmas with Emilia Fox. They've gone to their rooms and I'm sat with the dog watching tv.

I’m sat here wondering why on earth it’s all on my shoulders, knowing I have limited Christmas’ with the DC believing but after the Christmas Eve they’ve given us. Wondering why. I’ll do it. It’ll just take some doing this year. Sorry to bring the thread down, it’s been a hard day

Ate a quiche. Resettled our sick toddler three times (so far). Caught up on 18 minutes of Black Doves before giving up on any attempt at an evening.

Dh & I went to town earlier to buy stuff for the 26th & 2 last present

We expected it to be awful but it was surprisingly fine. We got everything done & we were home again in an hour & a half..

We did a lasy minute tidy up downstairs & i put the food away. Lit the fire & lots of candles & i opened champagne 🍾

We've had party food for tea with the champagne & watched The Holiday

Dd (19) is flitting between the sitting room & her room & has been doing last minute wrapping of presents for me & dh

All presents are wrapped & under the tree.

We do stockings for each other so we still have to do them later

It's been a calm, relaxed & very enjoyable Christmas Eve 🎄

Walked the pier, made tea, neighbours in, ate tea (never dinner on Christmas Eve), neighbours in, 30 minutes debate about turkey cooking protocol and who is going to swim in the sea and run the Goal mile, who is going to mass and who is minding the turkey. 30 minute debate re what happened with the mince pies - they are like big macs with one layer of mince, then pastry, then one layer of apple. Suspect my mother's macular degeneration may play a role. 30 minutes looking for a luggage weight to weigh the turkey, then I stand on the scales with and without turkey. Bath time. Heated debate about brandy butter - should we use the (omg!!) premade brandy butter we got in a hamper? Will the temple veil be rent in twain? We will make brandy butter and serve both. Now my son has finished watching Woody Woodpecker goes to camp, and is prepared to go to bed. The rest of us will be up until 1am.

We went to town in the morning, for a stroll in the shops.
We cooked Christmas dinner today, as my DH is working tomorrow evening and night.
It was great to cook all together. It went rather smoothly. We all had malibu and coke, cava and bayleys while cooking. So it was rather merry LOL
We watched the Promise.
Now chilling abit before bed and plotting what to eat tomorrow. Lots of left overs.

TianasBayou · 24/12/2024 22:17

Prepared all the veg for tomorrow including part roasted spuds and cauliflower cheese and a nut roast. Lovely beach walk with (adult) DC and enjoyed the pretty sunset.
Last minute shopping for cheese. Had pizza delivered. Played cards. Early night. Santa will be filling stockings in the morning Xmas Wink

I'm on night shift (ambulance service), in the middle of a long distance transfer from one hospital to another. Hope the rest of the shift is decent as I don't want to spend too long in bed tomorrow morning 🤞

TeenLifeMum · 24/12/2024 22:33

Dh is working so I watched muppets Christmas Carol with the girls and they’ve just gone up to bed (teenagers). I think dh was worried dc would miss him but actually, I’m missing him and feel a bit pathetic and lonely.

He didn’t have to work tonight (singer) but I said it was fine. He’ll have a great night so need to not bring him down but next year I think I’ll say no.

Worldgonecrazy · 24/12/2024 22:59

I had a nap. DH cleaned the house from top to bottom, then took me for a lovely meal at the local posh restaurant. Came back home and watched Elf. Now snuggled and counting my blessings. Merry Christmas everyone!

Theimpossiblegirl · 25/12/2024 00:23

Mum's taxi duty. Finally finished, so relaxing with a glass of wine. Happy Christmas to you all.
