How are you all spending Christmas Eve evening?

We are having fish and chips and I'll put a Christmas film on in the background.

We've been for a walk, after food will probably put out the mince pie for Santa and gang the stockings.

My children are older so probably won't go to bed too early. Once the youngest is asleep we will have to do the stockings and then head to bed.

Does anyone do anything special or have a routine?

I'm spending it on my own. Just had a ping macaroni cheese and watching crap tv.

Cat5689 · 24/12/2024 18:45

Pizza and some tv here.

Dh and the kids will head out about 10.30pm to walk up to the Watchnight Service at church. I'm not going this year so I'll get the presents out once they leave then sit and have a drink. I'll probably be asleep before they get back.

WafflingDreamer · 24/12/2024 18:51

I'm just heading into work, finish at 8am and hoping I can get home fast. The kids are under strict instructions not to touch presents until I'm home then I'll do my best to power on through the day. My DH is useless so I'll have to cook and be excited about the kids presents and everything else having been up since 6am this morning

We’ve had Christmas dinner at my mums, home to watch elf before going to the midnight carol service .

Theperenniallaunderess · 24/12/2024 18:54

We’ve all had a little present each, put the baby to bed, and now catching up on Carols from Kings with a glass of sherry. Halloumi in blankets in the oven. Then the Death in Paradise Christmas special, having a cuddle with the dog on the sofa.

ImageMirror · 24/12/2024 18:56

We are waiting for a pizza delivery watching home alone although unsociable DS is playing on his ps5. Once we’ve had pizza DS will have a bath with his Christmas bath bomb and get into his new Christmas pyjamas. I’ve been in mine since 4pm 🤣 I’d normally partake in a couple of baileys but I got VERY drunk last night and I think even a whiff of alcohol will finish me off so we’ll be having hot chocolates and maybe another game of frustration.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 24/12/2024 19:00

Worked until 12:30, grabbed some lunch with a couple of close girlfriends and came home. Was supposed to be going out for drinks and a Chinese but I went to bed as soon as I got home and I only woke up about 30 mins ago, so DH has gone for a drink and is coming home with a Chinese.

TBH sleep and a Chinese is exactly what I wanted. I'm exhausted.

Running round after every fucker else. Trying to get a few minutes of peace for escapism on Mumsnet.

Same sister, same. Currently in the bathroom with a glass of Procecco. I've told them I've got a tummy ache and may be a while.

I bet you £1000 when I come out ill be asked where the xxx is and is there more xxx

Mysteryfemale · 24/12/2024 19:03

Played a board game, about to have chicken katsu, then watch the Muppet Christmas Carol - only one more sleep til Christmas! - then put the presents under the tree and then I hope an early ish night.

xyz111 · 24/12/2024 19:04

We've just had Camembert and sour dough bread, now watching Christmas Carole (the Jim Carey version). DS7 was getting massively hyper so hopefully this will settle him 🤦🏻‍♀️

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 24/12/2024 19:07

I finished work at 3pm. We then went for a walk. Came home for a cheese & biscuits dinner & watched Muppets Christmas Carol whilst drinking champagne.

Now watching Elf. Might fit one more movie in before putting the presents out then bed.

Slavica · 24/12/2024 19:14

We had fondue, my teen is baking cookies and we're about to watch "Derry Girls".

Maboscelar · 24/12/2024 19:17

Dominoes pizza for tea, watching films on TV, and popping to a friend's in a bit for a drink.

Racingadmin · 24/12/2024 19:19

Dd (20) finished work at 1 , Dh wfh finished at 7 ( last night really )

We've peeled the veg andthen played monopoly while drinking negroni (me) , baileys (dd) and beer (dh)

Now all eating cheese and drinking malbec while watching Santa Claus the movie

It's lovely but weird as first year without ds who is working as a paramedic from 23rd to night of the 27th

JengaNonConfirming · 24/12/2024 19:21

We did Christmas dinner for my Mum this afternoon and then took her for a drive round to see the local Christmas lights. We've not long dropped her home, so now me, DH and DD 24, are snuggled down with chocolate and watching The Holiday 😍

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 24/12/2024 19:22

Board games, wine/beer and burgers and chips at PIL's house. Maybe something on TV after dinner. Not quite my family's way of doing things, but nice enough and very chilled out. PIL are lovely!

BadgerInDungarees · 24/12/2024 19:24

I'm dying sick but trying to pretend I'm not and playing boardgames with the kids.

georgepigg · 24/12/2024 19:26

We had our mega cheeseboard, kids spent a lovely peaceful few minutes (probably an hour actually) being nice and excited and writing to Santa (thank you/have a nice year notes), putting out the Santa snacks, tracking him on NORAD etc.

Then usual shitty bedtime, I left 9yo to do it himself as he was rude. Now going to sit on sofa and hope something good is on telly. Merry Christmas!

Taytocrisps · 24/12/2024 19:28

I collected adult DD from work around 6 p.m. She's in the shower now. When she comes down, we'll have dinner. We'll watch a Christmas movie with a drink and then she has to wrap her last few presents (mine are all done). At some point, she'll go to bed and we'll say, "Goodnight". Once she's in bed, she knows not to come out of her bedroom, because Santa will be busy. I've everything lined up and wrapped, so it will take all of ten minutes to bring everything downstairs and fill her stocking. I like to watch a documentary (something Christmassy - even just for half an hour) and drink a glass of wine and chill, and pat myself on the back for making Christmas happen. Then I might have a soak in the bath and fall into bed.

Marmite27 · 24/12/2024 19:29

Just back from vigil mass, kids are about to get in the bath. There’s a ham in the slow cooker. We had pigs-in-blankets pasta before we went.

The Christmas Eve box with the Santa treats board and Santa keys are usually waiting when we get back from church but I’m fuming at DH because he didn’t get them out of the loft in time. I need the kids in bed as I’ve got shedloads to do, so could do without this.

Nigellasrockyroad · 24/12/2024 19:31

Spent a lovely afternoon with our adult DC. Got home and started preparing desserts and sausage rolls for tomorrow, but got sidetracked by carols at King ( had a couple of drinkies whilst watching it), so I’m now behind schedule and a little bit p*ssed.

lightsandtunnels · 24/12/2024 19:32

Just me and DH - we're being hosted by DS and DIL tomorrow. Excited to spend the day with them and our gorgeous Grandson.

I'm eating Stilton, Quality Street, sipping egg nog and watching It's a Wonderful Life whilst counting my blessings. Multi-tasking as usual! 😉

Caffeineismydrug35 · 24/12/2024 19:33

Went into our city centre which was lovely but exhausting. One child eating pasta, the other at her boyfriends for the night. Chinese ordered for DH and I and then I (we) need to wrap Santas presents for the youngest and cook stuffing and peel veg for tomorrow. I’m shattered and it’s not even close to the part when I get to sit down and relax.

TheChosenTwo · 24/12/2024 19:36

The only traditions we have on CE is a walk and pub stop and dc making mince pies with dh. Dc are now 20,19 and 13, no believers anymore but they are all in the kitchen now making the pastry.
Ive finished wrapping, lit the fire and am planning on not moving for a few hours!
not sure what we’ll have for dinner, dh has spent the day in the kitchen prepping for tomorrow, he said he might make an arrabiata or something, whatever it is will be speedy.
Ds is fancying a few games, fine by me as long as I can stay horizontal on the sofa 😂
also having the same feelings at Christmas,
that we’ve spoiled the dc rotten and I can’t wait for them to open their presents in the morning. They’re genuinely such lovely kind hearted kids and I love choosing them stuff.
