Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

Asda...

No fucking fancy chocolate biccie tin. Bastids.

Swapped jubblies ice lollies for Slush Puppy ones...

Crispy coated BBQ peanuts for the Graze multipack snack equivalent.

So apart from the fancy chocolate biscuit bastardry, not too bad!

We did get conned on Amazon for a 750g tin of Celebrations which, when it arrived turned out to be a 550g tub, with a replacement barcode sticker over the original printed one... claiming to be 750g. However I know how big that size tin should be so I peeled that fucker off, took a pic of the shenanigans and got my money back off Amazon... and I won't be sending the 550g tub back so thats free chocs for me (shame I can't eat more than two without getting a headache and feeling sick but DP will enjoy them).

Not to brag….but got my order from Tesco this afternoon, everything here no subs!
To be fair I seem to be lucky.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 22/12/2024 21:35

The Bailey's squirty cream was missing from mine. I don't drink alcohol, but figured I could get away with a little cream on a hot chocolate to dilute it to nothing. Ah well, maybe next year.

bradypuss · 22/12/2024 21:35

Tesco today.
Only substitution was bacon.
Gave me a better brand instead so not a problem.
Only issue was fresh prawns best before today hmmmmm

WolfFoxHare · 22/12/2024 21:35

Tesco and no subs, nothing missing! Very impressed.

TinyPairsOfSocks · 22/12/2024 21:36

The first time I booked ahead for a Christmas delivery slot, I put 14 bottles of persil in the basket just to get to the minimum delivery charge. I then missed the last editing date, and on the day before Christmas we got 14 bottles of persil delivered and no Christmas food at all (my own fault).

It was my first Christmas living with DH and his Mum is a fabulous cook who always does Christmas to the nines, so my first effort was quite a change for him.

Fortunatey we both thought it was very funny.

OriginalUsername2 · 22/12/2024 21:37

I never trust an order anymore. It’s part of my routine to get the inevitable substitutes and unavailables in person a day or two after our main food delivery.

It’s annoying but still much better than years ago when grocery delivery didn’t exist and I had to carry the whole lot myself!

Zippea · 22/12/2024 21:39

Asda - they didn’t send the turkey. I order a shop every year for my MIL. Of course, it’s my fault 🙄

Mugcake · 22/12/2024 21:39

I don't bother any more, they always have things missing and substituted. One year they didn't send any veg at all, and one baking potato rather than a bag of maris piper
And one year they substituted all the veggie stuff like a nut roast, veggie stock cubes, Sausages for all meat? Sometimes i think they take the piss deliberately 😅
Hope you get it sorted! It does make you wonder why we bother going to the effort of booking months in advance

GoldenLegend · 22/12/2024 21:40

I appear not to have checked out my final amendments so I'm missing spuds, swede and onions. I have a sneaking suspicion that other things are also missing but I can't remember what they were!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 22/12/2024 21:40

Thankfully only the chocolate matchmakers and cold and flu tablets.
Ours was Asda, booked the 8am delivery in the hope when it was picked there was more stock.
All veg, party foods and fizz arrived.
Hope you get sorted

I ordered some bread on mine - just plain old bread, nothing fancy - just a loaf for the freezer for easy breakfasts just in case. Not available - no suitable substitution available - Tesco 🤣

The missing bread us because people go mad and panic buy because shops are going to be closed for 2 days.

TwinklyMintHelper · 22/12/2024 21:42

I have used Sainsbury’s online for a while. Never again. What I am now finding is that quite a large number of the fresh food items have very short use by dates. By this I mean, the day after delivery. Last time this happened, having checked the order before it arrived, I cancelled the whole lot! The delivery day was Friday, and the food was full price! Why should we accept this kind of service just because certain ranges have not sold out in time?
Has anyone else experienced this?

Bookmarking this thread - my waitrose delivery is arriving tomorrow morning. I felt like I had won the lottery when I secured the slot but now I am worrying that there's going to be loads of missing items and substitutions.

PurpleFlower1983 · 22/12/2024 21:43

Sprouts, stuffing and smoked salmon missing from mine but heading to M&S in the morning anyway.

ouch321 · 22/12/2024 21:43

Seems as though Tesco is the most reliable based on this thread.

mamaison · 22/12/2024 21:44

Waitrose did very well- it was only the glazed carrots missing. I managed to pick some up today while out and about.

I use Sainsbury's loads and rarely get short dates. It's all store-dependent, I think.

Berga · 22/12/2024 21:44

DCat was pretty pissed off they didn't have his Christmas limited edition turkey and salmon dreamies, but other than that, got everything with my Sainsbury's shop today.

eklaljdj · 22/12/2024 20:28

Just a suggestion for future years, I buy non perishable things like frozen food, jars, chocolate and alcohol etc in the run up to Christmas and tuck away, I only have the stuff that has a short life in my Christmas delivery slot, too many years of having to traipse to the shops on the 23/24 for the bits that have now sold out!

I thought everyone does this anyway to help spread the cost?

WellsAndThistles · 22/12/2024 21:46

Tesco - My main Xmas dinner item, T-Bone steak, was subbed for sirloin. My "Christmas Melon" was subbed for 2 honeydew melons. I refused both subs.

Annoyingly I had to make a last minute trip to Tesco anyway and coincidentally followed the driver back to the store, went to see if they had a Christmas Melon and spotted a staff member putting my subbed melons back out on the shelf. Staff member gave me that 'weirdo at 3'o clock' side eye when I said, "Oh, I recognise those melons" 😂.

Anyway, so still no luck with the T-Bone so ended up getting Fillet steak instead.

SunblockSue · 22/12/2024 21:46

Sainsbury's came up trumps this evening - no substitutions, all delivered 🎄

Tumbleweed101 · 22/12/2024 21:47

I get a delivery every week
so I have added all my non perishables over the last few shops. My final slot is for tomorrow with the last bits and I am going into town on Xmas eve for cinema with my daughter so any urgent missing bits I’ll pick up then. Feel mostly organised though!
