Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

Our pigs in blankets have been substituted with pigs in blankets flavoured crisps!

Lovely with a drop of gravy

Did my shopping yesterday and got everything I needed but discovered my loyalty card points were missing. Someone else has managed to spend nearly £20 worth in October. GRRRRRR!

I had a Tesco delivery today. Booked it the day slots opened. Did the order yesterday and couldn't order any turkeys of any kind. So will have to go to the supermarket anyway, which sort of defeats the point of getting a Christmas delivery. Wasn't impressed.

Yes, but you are reserving the delivery slot not the food. Why didn’t you do the order for the things you know you’ll need at the same time as booking the slot?

BlueWhippetsForever · 22/12/2024 22:01

cuteyfluff It's an enormous Tesco which had hundreds of turkeys today my friend said, they just wouldn't let me order any turkey for delivery, fresh/frozen/whole/crowns, nothing

Mangoandbroccoli · 22/12/2024 22:01

The only time I used Sainsbury's for our Christmas delivery, all the veg (delivered on the 23rd) was 'best before' the 23rd and they substituted the fresh turkey for a frozen one... and we didn't own a freezer. Been with Ocado for the 9 years since and never had an issue.

I never buy turkey or ham in the supermarket. I always order from a local butcher.

Asda delivery tomorrow I've bet 18 substitutions, pessimistic dd is going 24. Dh has said 10. Bonus points if we guess an item, I've guessed Turkey gravy, chestnuts and sprouts.

Last year they substituted my chestnuts for cashews 😂

I've ‘click and collected’ from Asda today. Super easy service, booked a day ago and for the pricely sum of 50p. Bargain for someone to do my shopping.

14 substitutions but many were the exact same thing…the one that made me smile, like yours was instead of the chestnuts, a bag of hazel nuts!

I can hardly roast them on the fire or toss with my sprouts...😆

Interestingly customers must have realised that substitutions are stressful at the last minute, as loads of delivery slots for Christmas Eve.

BlueWhippetsForever · 22/12/2024 22:04

DooDahFlumps Because why would I want to order my Christmas shop in early November 🤣
I've used tesco several times. And Ocado, Waitrose and Sainsbury's. Always order the day before when I know what I need and never had a problem. Just because you order something weeks before doesn't mean it'll a available anyway (except Ocado which I know operates a different system)

AdoraBell · 22/12/2024 22:05

I always order things in November. I freeze things. Hope you can get the things tomorrow OP

TwinklyMintHelper · 22/12/2024 22:06

I don’t understand that. If you’re only reserving the slot, how come so many Christmas items are out of stock when you try to order them. Even in October?
Incidentally, I ordered turkey and beef ribs in October (Sainsbury’s again). No sign of the online order or that the deposit payment has been processed. Strange……..

eklaljdj · 22/12/2024 22:06

That's not how online food shopping works...

BlueWhippetsForever · 22/12/2024 22:06

wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting I might well do that next year, I just assumed it's much more expensive?

ShinyPebble32 · 22/12/2024 22:07

Mine was with Waitrose. No items missing or substituted, they accepted a long-expired 20 quid off voucher, delayed my click and collect pick up by several hours as I had a family emergency, and they greeted me with a smile and a lovely potted poinsettia as a free gift.

They really are the best supermarket, in terms of getting the best value for your money. I used to shop mainly in Sainsbury’s and Aldi, but have found that during the cossie livs prices have soared and quality has plummeted in those and other supermarkets, whereas Waitrose prices haven’t risen as much in comparison - and quality has stayed the same. And no, I don’t work for them and I’m not a millionaire - just someone who really loves food 😊

BlueWhippetsForever · 22/12/2024 22:07

eklaljdj That was my point. You don't "reserve" an item however early you add it to your online shop (apart from Ocado)

BlueWhippetsForever · 22/12/2024 22:09

ShinyPebble32 I might go back to Waitrose they were always very ggood. Not sure my local one does click and collect only delivery though

eklaljdj · 22/12/2024 22:09

@BlueWhippetsForever I mean the comment about doing the shop in November

I never trust an order anymore. It’s part of my routine to get the inevitable substitutes and unavailables in person a day or two after our main food delivery.

It’s annoying but still much better than years ago when grocery delivery didn’t exist and I had to carry the whole lot myself!

I agree, I would just sack off the missing items but I have somehow ended up catering for 14 people this year and I fear that the extras might be needed to keep everyone fed and happy. My DS definitely would miss the pigs in blankets.
it could turn him away from supermarket online shopping for life. I have told him that we will be off to the supermarket for missing items tomorrow (and not Sainsbury’s through principle). He is not overly excited but he has taken the missing items very seriously and agrees it is an important mission.

Ocado - nothing missing, no substitutions.

Missing some fridge bits, nothing major thankfully. I need to go and get some cream and a few bits of fruit and that's pretty much it. No idea why either was missing I was in the shop earlier and they had mountains of fruit and cream!

Sometimes the staff doing the online picks start at 3am. Deliveries are more frequent but spread out throughout the day this time of the year. Doesn't matter if your order was delivered to your home, late morning. The online shopping system does not allow staff to add the stuff that was delivered after the the pick has been done.

RareMaker · 22/12/2024 22:11

I went to Aldi and Tesco today at about 2pm. Neither were busy!

meercat23 · 22/12/2024 22:14

We use Ocado and they are generally very good. I do order from Waitrose for special occasions too. Booked a Waitrose Christmas slot back in October and among other things ordered two items from their Entertaining range, ie made to order. Guess which two itdems didn't turn up yesterday? I am beyond furious with them and will nor be using them again.

Think the turkey and beef ribs sounds like an order you collect in store. Paid £20 and pay the difference on collection.

Twinstudy · 22/12/2024 22:14

Ocado today. One sub, back bacon for streaky and a part baked baguette missing but not bothered about that, only ordered it coz it was in a flash sale.

I forgot to order sardines for the dog's breakfasts though so I will have to go to a shop tomorrow 😭i need to go to the butchers anyway to pick up the meat but was hoping to avoid any other shops!

I don't think it really is but I've never compared. I know M&S ones are very expensive! Some butchers do a 'package'. I am paying £62.99 for a pack to feed 6/8 people of a turkey butterfly, a gammon, stuffing and cocktail sausages.

It might be easier to get into a butcher's than Tesco!
