Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

Ocado - Greek yoghurt, M&S croissants and sourdough bread.

Not bad on a £300 shop.

NotmySundaybest · 24/12/2024 09:30

Seems Tesco have come out well this year?

Saucery · 24/12/2024 09:34

This year Waitrose didn’t have the Limoncello stollen bites I ordered back in Sept, boxes of Ritz subbed with individual packs and the stuffing I ordered subbed with a different, but still nice one. Waitrose is my usual Christmas online shop, with the occasional dalliance with Booths (that’s collection only and total chaos in store).

Noeggsontoast · 24/12/2024 10:46

M and S food to order - went to collect in store at 8:30 and my order wasn't there. Everything - turkey, gravy, all the veg and trimmings.

In fairness they found me a turkey, bigger than I ordered but not the same turkey, all the veg and trimmings but again not the same as I'd ordered. By means of compensation I didn't have to pay the balance that I owed.

I just posted this on the fridge threat- just had my email from Asda, 32 subs!! Surely that's a record.......

Teach me for messing up my order and having to have a Christmas Eve one!!

Asda

Really awful for you, hope you can get something though I’m sure that the last thing you want is to go shopping.

2 eldest children physically go shopping 🙂 No 1 sorted the turkey crown & No 2 the profiteroles. Christmas is saved!

I don’t use Waitrose any more, one year they cancelled the poultry and a major side dish I’d pre-ordered for Christmas Day. No proper apology, no acceptable substitute but at least I found out before the day it was due when I edited my order. “Supply problems” quoted. And if they put together the rest of the order from the store it’s usually missing something anyway. I went to M&S that year to pick things up early on the day.
Ocado are much more dependable.

So pleased to hear that, they are real stars!

Ocado shop turned up late with some substitutions and out of stock items. All good or so I thought. When unpacking noticed pigs in blankets, smoked salmon, orange juice, clementines and a few buffet items missing so can only assume the driver missed a couple of bags. So frustrating but have requested a refund and will now head out to Sainsbury's! Lesson learnt not to book delivery for Xmas Eve!

Oh and the Christmassy Colin the caterpillar was substituted for the normal one 🙄

Bah Humbug!

No! I can’t imagine how shocked I would be! The poor staff as well.

midlifeattheoasis · 24/12/2024 13:47

Waitrose every year and I've never ever had an issue. This year they substituted nitrite free bacon with regular..I'm happy with that

PumpkinSparkleFairy · 24/12/2024 13:53

We had a Tesco delivery this morning - only missing parsnips!

DP nipped out just now and picked some up - phew.

changedusernameforthis1 · 24/12/2024 14:14

I was surprised when everything was delivered except for milk. Figured I'd get that from the local. Then realised I'd used the last bin bag. A little later noticed that we're running low on toilet roll. Oh and some eggs would be good to have in. Ooh and maybe crackers and cheese, I didn't think of that.

Decided to go shopping and got it all not long ago. It was a nightmare 😂

"the Christmassy Colin the caterpillar was substituted for the normal one"
No offence intended, at all, but the wrong type of Colin has to be a definition of a First World Problem. (I speak as someone who bought the Halloween Colin!)

If you want to pay for it (not judging either way!) then don’t bother with the phone Helpline. They won’t take payment over the phone and when I said it would be difficult - not impossible, just difficult and not in the next couple of days- for me to go into the store and sort it out the man on the ‘helpline’ got really arsey with me “MADAM, you MUST go into your store and pay, it is FRAUD not to!”.
Managed to get the local store phone number and arranged to go in. They gave me £30 off a £90 order for the inconvenience. It was still a pain in the arse to have to go there though, so I stopped Sainsbury’s deliveries after that.

The account is DH's. There is no way he is going to go out of his way to pay for it if they don't take payment. I probably would, but as it's not my account, they won't deal with me.

StuffHappens · 25/12/2024 10:17

Having worked in a supermarket warehouse picking home shopping deliveries, I can tell you, it's just as stressful for staff.

polkadotchristmas - the reason you probably got subbed like that is there was no apple juice, the system told the picker to sub with orange juice, then your orange juice was the next item to pick, but the juice they just picked to sub your apple juice was the last on the shelf, so they had to sub that with something else, sunny D at this point.
The system can't tell that the sub will be the last item and suggest something else and the picker doesn't know what the next item is going to be, the system just tells you one item at a time.
Whilst the computer system they use is good, it's not perfect as it doesn't corelate to actual stock and obv has no intelligence so just tells you someone's list.

I remember the end of shift on Xmas eve, (24th) last few shops being picked. The warehouse shelves were getting empty, no more deliveries coming in until 26th as they were closed tomorrow.
We just had to pick the best we could...I know I felt like I had ruined a few Xmases as the stock had run out and had to sub the best I could. Luckily I used my brain and didn't always sub what the system told us to but thought if I was buying veg & it wasn't available, what's an actual sub I could use. Many pickers would just put whatever the system told them and whoever set up subs in the office needed to sit and rethink some of the suggestions lol.

Greenly3 · 25/12/2024 11:05

That’s good to know @Stuffhappens, I was missing my red cabbage and cauliflower cheese from my Ocado shop, but everything else was good, with good sell by dates. Sound like it’s been a nightmare for some of you. Anyway I hope everyone has a very merry Xmas and a great Xmas lunch today.

ohime · 26/12/2024 22:34

One Christmas, DH's plan for a posh duck-based dinner with all the trimmings was trashed after Waitrose delivered, not the whole frozen duck he'd spent ages choosing, but a substitution: a frozen Hoisin-duck ready meal for one. This was BITD, before you could see your substitutions ahead of time; in fact it probably was one of our earliest instances of online shopping. DH had been so chuffed at securing a last-minute Christmas delivery slot! IIRC we trundled down to the Sainsburys in town and got a half-price chicken in the last-minute-before-Christmas sale, and Christmas was more or less saved - unlike the hapless customer service representative who answered when DH called to remonstrate with Waitrose.

AdoraBell · 27/12/2024 12:01

I was lucky with my order this year, lots of substitutes but all suitable. Hope everyone else managed to get what you wanted in the end.

sellotape12 · 27/12/2024 13:23

For us, Sainsbury’s missed off

  • custard
  • stuffing balls
  • fresh rosemary (they sub’d for parsley noo)
  • all the cured meats.
don’t really get why this happens so often. You place an order for some popular items 5 days in advance. Isn’t it up to their demand modelling systems to accurately stock and deliver? Oh well

I believe this is why Ocado is so much more reliable: they allocate stock as it's ordered, and they'll tell you before you place your order if something is unavailable for delivery on a particular date - i.e., if they've already allocated the lot and aren't expecting any more in by the time you'll be wanting it. I've had substitutions from them only once or twice, always very minor - a different brand of the same thing, for example, rather than a completely different thing. Can't use them for every shop though given how pricey they are.
