Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

So I went to a retail park today (in close range of 5 big supermarkets, I was hedging my bets)
First try was Tescos (easier parking, loathe to give Sainsbury’s my custom as it was there error that sent me out on the extra flipping food run)
I have everything that I need YES 🙌 in one (extra) shop 🙌
The shop was busy but they had at least one variety of most things that we needed (pigs in blankets was the must have)
I usually do more homemade stuff but as we are feeding 14, I think the lost important thing is that I can get everything out at the same time.
Red cabbage is braising right now, stuffing is made, cooked and cooling for the fridge. Thinking of parboiling the potato’s next but having a cheeky tipple to celebrate shopping success and watching “Boss baby” on tv with DS (who btw, loved the last minute shopping challenge. He was treating it like a treasure hunt for gold) . Happy Christmas and very good luck to those still waiting for their online deliveries xxx 🤶 🎉 🍻
P.s if anyone has good pre dinner prep ideas , please share. Would love to get the parsnips and the bread sauce made and ready to go!

Glad you managed to get what you needed OP and all in one shop too. Love DS and his treasure hunt!

Tesco order for me with one substitution - my goose fat I'd use to cook the roast potatoes in, has been swapped for a family cheese selection! Can't see the similarity other than the price is the same.

Hadn't brought any cheese and then regretted it, so quite happy with this and already have a cracker selection in, so think now have cheese and crackers later, while enjoying a glass of wine as my reward for playing jenga to get it all put away.

Bastards. All the vegan stuff missing. All but one of us is vegetarian or vegan. This is Ocado they should be better than this. Off to M&S it is. Luckily it’s only a walk away.

I always do my parsnips like this. Instructions given how to prepare in advance and keep in fridge or freezer. I often have some in the freezer and they roast very well from frozen. https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/collections/root-vegetables/parmesan-baked-parsnips

Parmesan-baked Parsnips

This is one of the nicest ways to serve parsnips, baked crisp and golden brown in the oven with a Parmesan coating. They can be prepared well in advance, up to 24 hours, or they can even be prepared and frozen and will then cook perfectly if allowed to...

All the turkeys at the local butchers will be spoken for

Ours sometimes has a few that they keep back or even that aren't claimed as we don't have to put down a deposit!

drspouse · 23/12/2024 16:00

Just got my email confirming Morrisons click and collect is ready. Most substitutions v sensible but no pandora pancetta (first world problems!) so I'll nip somewhere locally before they close tonight.

drspouse · 23/12/2024 16:48

No pancetta. Pandora pancetta would be a bizarre charm indeed.

Tillow4ever · 23/12/2024 18:34

This is one time I give Tesco a lot of credit - they make bloody certain your Christmas shop is a good one! So if there are any substitutions, they are always at least the equivalent or better. I think we had 4 substitutions on a £350 shop - all of them were great subs. I’ve had problems during the year but never a problem with the Xmas shop and for that reason alone I stick with them!

tommyhoundmum · 23/12/2024 18:35

This happened to my friend today.

She rang a complaint through to the Sainsbury's call centre and the driver had to go back for the second crate. It all arrived eventually. Good luck

ladybirdees · 23/12/2024 18:36

Last year I had a missing turkey on Christmas Eve! That was a shocker

ByPithyLion · 23/12/2024 18:42

I received my Christmas order from Sainsburys on Sunday morning. I was expecting some of my "unusual" and party food to be missing but, no, it was all there. The only item missing from my order was...milk! Unavailable was the explaination. Its not a problem as it's readily available locally but, really, Milk?

lalalala1234321 · 23/12/2024 18:49

My Ocado delivery had everything last night. Only one substitution - different flavour of cooked prawns, which I can definitely live with.
I usually buy frozen turkey beginning of Dec and get all long life items gradually through Dec, so the last shop is not horrendous

anon666 · 23/12/2024 19:03

I made the mistake of leaving it too late to amend my ocado.

When I finally got round to it they were out of everything.

We'll be eating frozen turkey, home made pigs in blankets, and presumably the worst stuffing.

At least they had better come because it's only scheduled 4pm Christmas eve. Drawback of late delivery......

Oneday24 · 23/12/2024 19:09

Asda gave me 30 subs and 5 unavailable. They subbed a box of crackers for seafood sauce!

Blueberry911 · 23/12/2024 19:23

Why is everyone out of milk of all things 😂

PlanBea · 23/12/2024 19:26

My Sainsbury's delivery substituted small packs of AA and AAA batteries with bigger packs (of a decent brand!), own brand chocolate chips with Dr Otker, and cauliflower cheese with taste the difference cauliflower cheese. Result!

Teddybear23 · 23/12/2024 19:27

People complain that the high street shops are in decline and blame various things for this, however surely not going shopping for your own stuff is the main reason! People started having home deliveries of food during Covid but there’s no excuse not to go to the shops yourself now.

DisabledDemon · 23/12/2024 19:36

I used to order from Tesco but got so many ridiculous substitutions that I gave up.

I was about to suggest this for parsnips, @rebelrun. Also, make the Sainted Delia's bread sauce well in advance and just heat it gently to serve with your Christmas meal.

I add more butter and cream than the recipe advises, but then I'm told I always overdo things!
Bon app, enjoy!

Traditional Bread Sauce

Traditional bread sauce is one of the great, classic British sauces, but I think it has suffered from either not being made properly or – worst of all – being made from a mix or packet. The real thing is beautifully creamy and the perfect accompaniment...

Not having a car
Being a shift worker/long hours at work
Having kids and no one to watch them whilst you shop
Not having 100 arms to carry bags
Disability

clarehhh · 23/12/2024 19:43

Nothing missing from my Tesco order, was £250 so plenty of scope but all present.

Goinggreymammy · 23/12/2024 19:45

@rebelrun Thank you for this thread. It made me somewhat prepared for the disappointment of my Tesco delivery this evening, so I didn't go into a panic or become angry when 88 euro worth of my 319 euro shop was delivered. Do I win the thread?

No idea what happened to the rest.... its not even showing up in the app as ever being ordered. But I know it went through because I was surprised when it said Order Confirmed without asking me to confirm in banking app (I was amending an existing order I'd made to hold the slot). So no wine, soft drinks, party food, biscuits, sweets, and I can hardly remember the rest of the things I'd ordered. Anyway, only for reading this thread last night I think I would have been shocked and angry. So thank you.
I will send DH to shop tomorrow instead and do my Christmas food shop in person every other year.
Merry Christmas everyone.

sellotape12 · 23/12/2024 19:45

Sorry to hear this. I’ve just looked at our Christmas order from Sainsbury’s and they have missed off the Christmas pudding too.

Tallulahbelle1038 · 23/12/2024 19:45

Ocado shop, nothing ‘not available’, 3 subs and all very reasonable or better than what I had ordered!
